Great ambiance! Modern vibe with low key music, clean and spacious with great Indian food. My saag paneer was delicious. Spinach flavor did not overwhelm the dish and paneer was still a firm consistency. Chef got the heat amount just right. We usually like it spicy, more than the usual American palate but since we were flying I asked for my Saag med- hot and it was just a nice bit of bite. Definitely not a Nepali med- hot but more an American med- hot if you're trying to gauge it! Chef gave us extra naan as he wasn't happy with the way the first naan turned out ( they were fine) - how refreshing is that? Next time I will try the momos! Our lovely server was the icing on the cake- attentive, kind and informative. Thankful we found this gem in Charlotte. Will search it out when we fly in again! read more

Came here for the reviews and it did not disappoint. Love that I saw items on the menu I haven't seen at other Indian restaurants. I wasn't super hungry and opted for the black chana. It was absolutely delicious. Very flavorful. Perfect portion for an appetizer. Service was great. It was freezing outside so I stayed chilled. It's small so there's no way to avoid the breeze whenever the door opens. The restaurant is right across from Party City in a shopping plaza near Northlake Mall. read more

I guess they only been open a few months so we decided to try em out! Glad we did. The place is very clean - soft lighting - and they have a great jazz playlist for easy listening Everything we had was GREAT! We started with veggie pakoras - crisp and full of flavor served with tamarind and mint chutney! Neither is spicy for you non spicers! We always order two items to share and let me tell ya the Lamb Tikka is fabulous- the sauce is rich and delicious with just a hint of tomato sweetness (some places I find the tikka a lil too sweet) - the serving size is just right as well! The chicken momo recommended by our waitress as one of their signature dishes was fantastic too! you get 10 of them so plenty to share! We opted for steamed version! The spices which I can't pin down resonated through both dishes which is why I love Indian food! They offer you regular water or ice water and I wasn't sure what regular water meant - it's served room temp which I prefer actually! They seem to have a full bar but neither of us ordered drinks to know what they offer! At one point the chef possibly the owner came out to see if we were pleased we gave him a ! Service was great! The flavor of the curry and biryani shrimp was as expected as well as the naan bread. However, my husband ordered the goat curry and the goat was extremely tough! It needed to cook for another couple of hours. It was pretty inedible. I had one hunk of meat I was unable to even bite into. Even the meat that was attached to the bone was tough and lots of grizzle. The wine we ordered was good with the flavors. The music was great as well. Probably will not be returning. read more

Service tonight was great, and so was the food - until my husband and I got severe food poisoning about 6 hours after dinner (12:30AM!). I had the chicken Tikka Masala and my husband had the Lamb Curry. Since he has much worse food poisoning than me, it was most likely the lamb. I only had a small bite of his and it messed my stomach up. Considering that he is now in fact forced to sleep on the bathroom floor next to the toilet, we unfortunately won't be going back. read more

I have been in Charlotte for a week and I was getting by on bar food from the Hickory Tavern which is fine and they do a good job, but it's bar food. Last night I found Kasthamandap kitchen. My tastebuds exploded! I had the Lamb Vindaloo. It was perfectly prepared. Just excellent! The server was very sweet and genuinely grateful for her patrons. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Been here twice......first was hubby and I. Enjoyed our meals and the service was great. We had the chicken fried rice and chicken Vindaloo with some garlic naan. Everything was fresh and perfectly spiced. The young lady that took care of us with very attentive. A lot of food in that I had lunch for work the next day. Came back this past week, with our daughter who was in town - she gave it a thumbs up in between bites. Definite adding to our list of places to frequent and suggest to others. New restaurant just opened near Panera and the old Party City in North Lake. It's so special inside. The owners are lovely and the food is so so great! We sat inside for lunch and had the chicken chow mein noodles with a Mango Lassi.... Had some Tikka Masala to go with some garlic Naan. As I write this I have just finished visiting the kasthamandap kitchen and after personally having a rough couple of weeks this restaurant was exactly what I needed. My husband and I randomly found it on open table while trying to decide where to eat. We both have never tried Indian cuisine but have always wanted to try it so we made the reservation. We arrived an hour before closing (kitchen closes at 9pm) and placed our orders. Butter chicken(mild), goat biryani(mild), garlic naan, mango lassi and wine to drink. I absolutely love spice and mild was the perfect amount of it. Unfortunately we had the entire restaurant to ourselves, it would have been wonderful to see more people eating there. It felt so warm and cozy to be there, calm and peaceful. The girl serving us was so sweet and warm and welcoming. We didn't wait long for drinks and food. The mango lassi was absolutely delicious, it's made with yogurt and mango, it's kinda thick but oh my god was it delicious. The food smelled absolutely incredible once it arrived to the table. My husband and I immediately tried the butter chicken with some of the naan bread and it was just so warm and creamy with a hint of spice. My husband's goat biryani was a larger serving so if you have a party of 2-4 people, I believe this dish would be amazing to share. The smell was incredible and welcoming, the goat was soft and tender, and the spice was perfect. It was a tiny bit spicier than the butter chicken but not so over powering and it even paired well with the sauce of the butter chicken. Before we left we definitely had to order another mango lassi and also ordered a sweet lassi. The sweet lassi was actually a bit less sweet than the mango lassi so if you don't like sweet drinks, the sweet lassi is for you. Little confusing I know. After eating we just enjoyed the silence and calmness of the restaurant. As I mentioned, it's been a rough couple of weeks and the food and ambiance was exactly what we needed. It felt like walking into someone's home and being served a warm home cooked meal that was made with pure love. I do hope more people visit the kasthamandap kitchen, it was absolutely amazing and we will definitely be coming back again. Side note: next door there is this really loud noisy I believe bar lounge, it was a bit distracting having it next door but the coziness and peacefulness of the kasthamandap kitchen completely blocked it all out. I personally dislike loud crowded areas so I am glad I chose to come here instead. If you just need an easy night out and a change of food and scenery, this restaurant is definitely the place for you. 100% recommend. read more

Just passing through Charlotte, searched Yelp for dinner near the hotel. This restaurant popped up and we love quality south asian cuisine. After a bit of a search found Kasthamandap along a lovely new shopping/office mall. Seems it is quite new, exceptionally attractive decor and friendly greeting. Most importantly the food was delicious: veg biriyana was filling and well spiced, naan hot and tasty, started with crispy tasty veg pakora. Miracles of miracles, these folks could make a plain lassi on request (so many use mixes and cannot adapt to a plain). Certainly easily entitled to 5 stars. read more
