Awesome cruise! This was a fantastic boat with an awesome crew. Very friendly staff and informative too. Surprisingly good food in the galley! Great views and plenty of fun activities for the little kids too. The only thing I would change is more comfortable chairs on the decks and more narration on the 2nd leg back. But definitely a must see if you're in the area.

We were in the Greenville/Moosehead Lake area for part of our vacation to Maine. We found a cruise/tour of the lake on the steamship Katahdin. It was a great time learning about the ship as well as hearing the history of Moosehead Lake. The crew offered tours of the pilot house and engine room. Awesome experience to see how the ship was run. The galley sold a wide variety of food on board, including some homemade desserts. Great way to spend a day on the water.

Having never been to Moosehead Lake (and upon high recommendation), it was about time we made a jaunt to Greenville and see what's all the hullabaloo about! ;) We rented a cabin nearby for a few days, and decided to play tourist and book a cruise on the much lauded Katahdin ("Kate"). (We were there on its last week of operation for the year, so the 3-hour Sugar Island cruise was the only one available. They also have 5-hour and a 7-hour further distanced cruises during their operating season.) I was truly surprised at how many people also booked the cruise! The thing was packed!! Anyway, the cruise itself was very relaxing. For us, 3-hours was more than plenty of time to see the lake. (If there had been some plant-based food items, other than potato chips, the whole affair would've been far more enjoyable. We would've been starving on the 5- or 7- tours! LOL!! But, no doubt, there ain't too many vegans out in these climes!) The Old-Girl herself was a marvel to explore! What a beautiful job they've done to keep Kate looking spit-shine polished! Overall, it was a very good experience, and we were glad we able to see it before the season's end.... :D

When you live in Maine, who thinks about taking boat tours? That's for tourists!! (Lol!!)…read more Seriously, though, we had guests in town, so we thought it'd be fun to charter a boat for the four of us to go up the Penobscot River to Bangor. (At least that was the initial itin.) Me matey, Jay (after some due diligence on boat companies in the Bucksport area) , chose Penobscot Boat Tours as our charter. Jay said the communication(s) with Capt. Jeff Sennett (Owner/Operator) was excellent; his boat was faster/stronger to get us to Bangor and back in the least amount of time; and, the price for a 4-hr charter was less than other quotes. Splendid!! It was a dreary start to Tuesday when we arrived at 11 am with weather not looking promising for a jaunt up to Bangor; windy, rainy and choppy waters on the menu. This daunted us not, though! So, "Gilligan" and the gang (that'd be Mr. and Mrs. Howell, and the Professor), arrived at the Bucksport Marina in good spirits for our "3-hr tour"... er, 4-hr tour at Penobscot Boat Tours! ;) The boat was very cool (as all boats are!), and the Capt. Jeff (our imposing "Skipper" for this tour) made us all feel very welcomed, in good hands, and rarin' to-go!! After some discussion about the weather and tour route, we all agreed to a downriver jaunt for lunch in Belfast, and return to home base. Prior to Belfast, though, we made a special request of our intrepid Capt. (despite the hairy weather that we could see going on upriver) to take us a few miles upriver to where the Marsh River confluences into the Penobscot River. The rough-n-tumble ride was, of course, E-Ticket! (In all honesty, though, the confluence was a bit anticlimactic, but the ride was awesome!) Anyway, we turned around and headed for what was to be drier climes. The weather improved immensely and made for some pretty alluring scenery! Normally, we just drive to Belfast (20 mins) mainly not seeing the water much, behind trees/forests and such. So, seeing the coastline from the water -- seeing all those privileged homes tucked and nestled in splendid nooks and crannies! -- was a totally new POV, that's for sure! Capt. Jeff would slowdown now-and-then to point spots of interest out to us, to see seals basking on rocky shoals, and numerous heads bobbing up-and-down in the middle of the bay was pretty darn awesome!!! When we got to Belfast, Capt. Jeff gave us a suggestion for lunch (which we took and enjoyed), while he waited. The trip back to Bucksport was leisurely and beautiful as the summer sun shone upon our last leg back. The whole experience of seeing the land from the water was just wonderful! We never felt rushed; Capt. Jeff was very generous with his time. It was SO worth the cost and, more so, the experience! We will definitely be chartering another trip in the near future with Penobscot Boat Tours...!!! We all had such a great time...!!! :D

It is a beautiful, serene, quiet and peaceful place. We stay at Spencer cabin and appreciate that there is no t.v. but that there is a stove, sink, refrigerator, shower and beds! There is a kitchen table, picnic table, charcoal grill and fire pit. His immediate words, "be careful of the broken glass on the floor". As we entered and navigated past the broken glass and debris. We entered into the kitchen first in absolute shock at what we saw and smelled. Water stained ceilings drooping. Mold, animal smell, dishes with old caked on food. A frig with a yellow brownish mold or stains all over the front. Insides the frig broken off- falling pieces of the inside shell with exposed insulation. The flooring not vacuumed from the obvious debris. I am still using a heating pad on my back from tripping on a partially lifted metal carpet stripping. As well, just staying overnight while trying to secure other accommodations. I came down with an infected finger. The bathroom shower is a free standing, wobbly what appears to be black mold at the bottom. It appeared filthy. My partner has been an outdoor enthusiast-hunter-fisherman over 60 yrs. Staying in fishing lodges all over. Never he said did he ever experience such a disgusting place. He did try to discuss our feelings with the owner-asked for a refund. We did not get one. Unfortunately their was more unexpected expenses in securing another place to stay. While our next stay was fantastic. It was not directly on the lake as we wished for making our Moosehead Lake vacation not what we expected. Ive thought much about our experience at Wilson's...should I share, should we share. As posting a negative review doesn't make us happy. My decision was based on the owner not being accountable. It is an unhealthy mess..and disappointing for us. We are very fair people and share the view of the lake spectacular. From front door of the cabin just a few feet to the shore. The state of the inside of the cabin is a pitiful mess. We, as customers were not looking for a 5 star hotel. We were looking forward to your advertised experience. Which its not and is time to renovate. I cannot attest to the other cabins state of being. Just the one we checked into and left the very next day.

I was very dissatisfied with my ATV rental from 201 Powersports. The details of the rental weren't…read moreexplained very well, and 201 Powersports certainly didn't highlight the most important thing--your security deposit of either $1,500 or $3,000 (depending on whether you paid the extra $25 for the $1,500 option) will be taken for any scratches or scuff marks on the plastic body of the ATV. This should have been stressed, as there are many gates to get through that have very little clearance on the sides of the ATV, even if the ATV was completely square going through the gate. Regarding my experience, we stopped before every gate and passed through slowly, yet the plastic panels occasionally rubbed against the gate poles as it is very difficult to avoid. We used reasonable care while driving the ATV. You would think that with narrow passageways through the gates and the ATV being an off-road vehicle, scratches and scuffs would be expected. Not in my case. The "damage" was over $2,000, and my $1,500 deposit was fully taken. Apparently, the panels had to be replaced because of scratches and scuffs that were very difficult to avoid. 201 Powersports would not give me the old panels to potentially sell to offset the cost, as this isn't their or Polaris' policy. If the panels end up being replaced, I am sure the old ones will be repurposed or sold by 201 Powersports or Polaris. In addition to the above, when shown the ATV prior to use, we didn't get a walk-around to inspect the condition of the ATV like you would with a rental car. I would think that if the side panels were to come back in such pristine condition, this should have been highlighted and stressed along with mentioning the numerous narrow gates to alert the renter. If I had known that the gates were that narrow and that scratches and scuffs on the side panels would result in replacement at a high cost, I never would have taken this risk. Using the ATV for less than two hours ended up costing $1,825. Again, we used reasonable care and tried to be very responsible. One shouldn't have to be an experienced ATV driver to pass through gates. It wasn't reasonable. It seemed like a money grab, so please be very careful renting from 201 Powersports as it may cost you more than you expect despite using reasonable care. With the numerous and ridiculously narrow gates along the paths, 201 Powersports should expect scratches or scuffs on the plastic panels and/or provide an insurance option to cover such damage after stressing the renter's responsibility.
