They are amazingly kind, everybody in their salon has consistently updated education on the latest techniques and care, they are really thorough when they consult with you about what you want so you leave happy! And they have been amazing as far as scheduling appointments when people are in a jam. They also do so much outreach and local charity work to support the community. I have been going to Kate's for 4 years now. I am originally from New York and used to the Best salons and boy do you need deep pockets. When I moved to Danbury I was so Lucky to find this salon. I had a confirmed appointment with the owner Kate only to find out that I was handed down to her stylist. While the cut is fine, I was very taken aback that I was charged (top of the range) $70 for a very simple short hair cut only; no wash, no blow dry and no products. I usually pay $65 for my cut, wash and blow-dry with their Master Stylist! (Advertised: All HAIRCUTS INCLUDE THE CUT, WASH AND BLOW-DRY $50-70) Upon inquiring twice via their contact email which says "GET IN TOUCH" "We LOVE to hear from our guests. Your feedback enables us to improve the experience for everyone. So please get in touch" I'm still waiting to hear back from them - 8 days later and counting! Furthermore they must have received it as the confirmation was "Thank you for contacting Kate Emilies A Salon. We will contact you about your question as soon as possible." I find it extremely poor customer service to relegate me to another hairdresser without even a phone call but then charging me the owner's pricing and ultimately not responding to multiple inquiries! read more

Took me 5 years to come to terms that I should get a haircut. I always wanted long hair but I was unable to care and maintain it. Groupon had a great deal and I decided to try it out. Scheduling the appointment was very smooth because I was able to do it online without having to call. My appointment was confirmed within few minutes with Denise. Parking was not a problem. The place was easy to locate and there was no waiting list. Denise gave me a good conditioning treatment before the haircut. She heard about what style/ cut I preferred. While cutting the hair we spoke about our families and Connecticut. And at the end my hair cut was exactly the same I had expected. Nice layers with the expected length. The stylist did not protect my skin before she let the dye sit. I'm covered in dye, on my way to an event. Asked stylist why she did not use a skin protectant, she said someone must have misplaced it and since she couldn't find it, she didn't use it. Claimed she didn't see any dye. Manager came over, admitted to seeing the color and tried to get it off, but said the stylist might have avoided skin protection on purpose to enhance the color (?). (I guess she hadn't heard the stylist admit it was an error.). I genuinely hate writing bad reviews and don't think I ever have before - I prefer to use yelp to praise good service, however I would not want another client to have this happen. Both the stylist and manager were very nice - and the space is nice. Unfortunately if the services are not good, the space and atmosphere do not really matter. read more

I've been going here for the past few years now but usually just get a trim. Yesterday I got a shorter haircut which was obviously more involved than my 'usual' and I love it. I was sort of vague with what I wanted and needed some guidance. Erin (my stylist) helped me figure out it out and did a great job cutting and styling (and giving me tips on how to do it myself). They are also great with kids. My 3 year old has gotten her hair cut here twice and it was super painless and quick each time. The whole staff is very friendly. Jessica was great! She helped me fine tune my hairstyle idea through discussion and looking at photos. She stopped and checked in with me throughout the cut to make sure it was what I wanted. Despite having Deva cuts and using Deva products for 10 years, I found her approach to cutting curly hair to be so fresh. She made suggestions on ways to use the products better and manage my style routine for a better look. It's hard to change hairdressers after so long but I'm really glad I took a chance on a new salon and talented stylist. I'm looking forward to returning. I had a bridal hair trial that I had to leave early from due to an emergency at home in March. I called to schedule a second trial to be told that they are incredibly busy, and short handed due to one of the stylists getting injured, so they would not be able to accommodate. I have never heard of a hair stylist rejecting a potential client for a wedding, as that usually brings more profit than the average clientele. Thankfully I was able to find a much more accommodating hair stylist for my special day. read more

I recently moved back to the area and did not have a hair stylist. I made an appointment for a keratin treatment with Kate. At first meeting Kate, you're welcomed with a sincere smile and kind demeanor. Kate then told me about another type of keratin treatment, which ended up costing me 1/2 the price of a full keratin treatment and offered very similar results. Not only is Kate a kind woman who really knows about all things "hair", she's an honest woman. I've been to many salons all over the country and it's not often the owner will advise you of an alternative process that is 1/2 the price! Kate also trimmed my hair, which after quarantine for the last 3 months, really needed it!! She did an amazing job on my hair, I walked out feeling very satisfied and in fact made my next appointment before leaving! I'm blessed to have found Kate. I will admit I have not had my hair cut here, but my step-daughter and husband go all the time. The owner, Kate, is truly a nice person, and she can work really well with an 8 year old. My step-daughter recently cut over 10 inches off to donate to Wigs for Kids, and Kate shaped her hair wonderfully. My husband has a great head of hair, which I love, and she is able to style his well too. I might start going for cuts myself. Kate did an amazing job and really went out of her way to cut my hair exactly how i wanted it. She made it a point to get to know me as a new client which made me feel valued as a customer. I think Kate Emilies is a good place to go for the investment. Their haircuts are reasonably priced, the salon modern, clean, and there is plenty of parking. Kate cut my hair personally a few times and was always a pleasure to talk to. I could also say she went above and beyond at times to make sure I was satisfied with the cut. My mom and brother also got haircuts at K&E's and were also generally satisfied. Unfortunately, the positive aspects of K&E's were not enough to keep me coming back to this salon, despite its extreme proximity to my home and reasonable prices. I will say that the receptionist who makes appointments for this salon can be a bit difficult at times and made me feel like my business was not important in her apparent willingness to find a time that worked for me to come in (my mom and brother had a similar experience). Kate did an awesome job at giving me a shorter haircut and bangs! She actually nailed the bangs (literally cut them exactly how I wanted) and let me come in to trim my bangs in between haircuts for free! The only down-side to this experience was after the second hair/bang cut she gave me. I did not mention to her that that particular cut extremely important because it was my b-day/ I expected my now-fiance to propose during that weekend as well. The cut seemed fine at the salon but once I got home and washed my hair, I was so very dismayed to see that the bangs looked bad, just choppy. I called her back immediately to see if we could figure out a time for her to fix them and she literally made herself very available to fix my bangs but unfortunately, I could not find the time to make my way back to her salon prior to the proposal and ended up with a bad hair cut for that super special day. Kate did end up fixing my bangs afterwards but basically refused to admit that the bangs had been cut incorrectly/ apologize for that. I wish this experience had not put me off to going to Kate's because otherwise I very well may still be a customer of hers. On a side-note -I also know my mom had to visit Kate twice to get her roots re-dyed after my mom realized the initial color Kate applied was not the correct shade. Overall: I'd say definitely try K&E's, its a unique salon for the area, but also definitely make sure you are happy with the cut you receive, especially if it is before a very special occasion. read more
