Authentic authentic authentic! This place will remind you of home . I always order the Thali. It's unlimited costs about $25. Serves about 15 16 varieties . The service is lightening fast . As the thali is unlimited every top off order also comes to the table lightening fast.

Came here to try the kathiyawadi thali given how difficult it is to find Gujarati food in New York. This was my first time trying kathiyawadi food so take this with a grain of salt. I'm aware their food is sweetened with jaggery and sweeter than food from other regions of india. Also aware it is far less sweet than typical Gujarati cuisine. For the thali, several items were swimming in ghee. The began bharta (eggplant), dhokli (flour dumplings), and bataka (potato) were especially pooling with fat without it adding much flavor. Would have preferred these to be lighter. The snacks like the khaman were too dry and just crumbling and the fryums were just okay. The sev tomato dish was light but the vermicelli was soggy. The khichdi was hearty - plain but easy to add the pickled and spicy fixins to or eat with the kadhi, which was a tad sweeter than i would have liked on its own but great mixed together. The gulab jamun unfortunately was not fresh and tasted like it came from a can. Buttermilk was excellent and did cut the richness. The bhakri was well made and paired well with the fixins or thali dishes. The puri was not as light or soft as others tend to be. I think these foods could be much better but it might be authentic to serve things the way they came. The garlic chutney was delicious and not overly spicy. Service was quick and this spot is busy so people were being turned around quickly. I do think it is pricey for a thali. Despite being unlimited, I could barely finish what had come with the thali to begin with.

Kathiyawadi Kitchens offers both Gujarati and Kathiyawadi Thalis with generous portions and fresh, flavorful food. The service is prompt, though the restaurant is often full, so a wait is quite a bit, but well worth it. Clean and welcoming, it's the perfect place to enjoy authentic Gujarati flavors.

Sept 12, 2025 review: ---- We tried this place for lunch and reached there around 12:45pm on Fri. When we went there, the place was almost empty. We were quickly served the achar platter which had the carrot pickle, onions, green chillies, the cabbage ones. They had another one for 4 types of chutney, but none of them looked appealing to try. My husband and I got Kathiyawadi Thali and punjabi Thali. We were first given the chaas and dahi Vada. Chaas was fresh but no flavor. Dahi Vada was firm so we only took one bite and didn't want to eat it any further. In around 5-10 mins, we got our thali. Kathiyawadi Thali came with 4 curries as Began Bharta (7/10), Sev tomato (9/10), Gatta (8/10), Masala Bataka, Aloo curry (8/10). For the bread it had It had Puri and Bajra Rotlo. Bajra Rotlo is super heavy for this season so again, just took one bite but Puri was good. Khaman was decent- 8/10. Kadhi was my favorite of all- 10/10. Khichadi lacked flavor but was ok. Gulab jamun was ok as well. Refill was done but not in a generous way. Whenever we called the person, he was like "ok anything else" in sort of tired tone. Usually unlimited Thali is fed with politeness but I didn't see it here. The puranpoli came at the end was good. Punjabi Thali came with 2 curries- chole and kadhai paneer along with Dal fry. It also had khaman dhokla, plain rice. Breads were better in this Thali as parantha and Puri. Overall taste was decent but nothing like wow, I've not had this taste before. Also punjabi Thali curry came in bigger bowls to be able to fill the Thali space as variety were less for this one. As we were eating, we saw bunch of other folks walked in and in around 20-30 mins, the whole restaurent was full. They were able to give the remaining chaas in a to-go drink cup. I would yes- go there when you're super hungry. but I don't think its worth for 26 dollar Thali. Especially, not the punjabi Thali.

Just go. Don't think. Get what they are known for- the thali! Unlimited servings of so many diff dishes, you are guaranteed something will be delicious! Our son ordered the potato dish with puris- just see how many puris he got!!! Our friend tried the punjabi thali- safe bet if you frequent indian restaurants and know the popular dishes. Why are you still reading? Go.

We went on Christmas day and it was packed! It was a 45 mins wait but totally expected - you don't find Kathiyawadi food easily even in NJ. There is a "farsan" (gujarati snacks) store next door where you can shop while you wait. Just amazing food - bajra roti, dal, kadhi, khichdi, besan gatte, black chana, gulab jamun were my fav!! Once you are seated, you get about 50-60 mins, service is prompt so it is enough time to finish your food.

I was suggested this place by a Gujarati who said it's the most authentic cuisine you can find. I did give in and went here and needless to say, it's been amazing! We did try the kathiyawadi thali and pav bhaji and both were equally amazing. Service was quick and to the point. Give it a try and you'll come out smiling!

Have been to this restaurant multiple times and always left from here satisfied! They serve the most authentic Gujarati thali in New Jersey! Their Gujarati and Kathiyawadi thali both are a treat to have. Love their Sev tamatar sabzi - it's not at all soggy. Gatte ki sabzi is so amazing - it's so soft and cooked properly. It's so nice to have piping hot bajre ki rotli with ghee. To compliment all these heavy dishes they serve chhas that too unlimited! My mouth is watering as I am writing this review :) The service is usually pretty quick and they kept serving even when the restaurant was about to get closed. They have extended the seating arrangement last year. The wait times are always quite a lot here, but it's worth it! Just have a good appetite before going to this restaurant so you can enjoy all the scrumptious food.

This was my second time trying this place. Here are bullet points, we ordered kathyawadi and Gujarati thali: - both Thali's shaak were oily like literally all the oil is surfing on top of the bowl - rotlo, rotli, puri, papad, chaas, gulab jamun, and dahi Vada were satisfying - server: one OLDER server who spoke Gujarati was very rude, everytime you asked him for something extra, he gave a dissatisfying look. Meanwhile, the YOUNGER server who spoke Hindi was very pleasant and we loved him asking us if we needed anything more! - another thing that was very rude was when they brought our check before we were even done! - we felt rushed after the check came out - I asked for another gulab jamun and the Gujarati speaking server gave me a dissatisfying look! - The ambiance is ok, they had 90s mashup playing in the background which was ok, nothing worth discussing Giving 3 stars for the younger hindi speaking server who was pleasant and made our experience pleasant !

Suggested by friends and went here first time .. it's a little far from central NJ but wanted to try it out . Food was great . They had 3 thalis .. we tried all .. I like the Punjabi thali a lot. Gujarati and Kathiawadi thali was good too . 25-30$ per thali was a bit expensive though ! Food taste is good but expensive !! Also , the service is so bad ! About an hour wait time .. restaurant is small and couldn't accommodate more people .. hope they can improve the service . 3 stars is max I can give for the taste of food !!

    Gujrati and kathiyawadi thali

If you are craving for some authentic Gujrati/kathiyawadi food, this is the place to go to. It's absic restaurant with minimal decor/ambience. They don't take reservations and it's usually busy on weekends(wait could be from 30-40 mins). Menu have some mini meal/appetizers options and unlimited thalis(Thali is $26+gratuity so its not cheap). There is a tumbler of buttermilk on eqch table to enjoy with the food. We had Gujrati and kathiyawadi thali. Food is a bit oily and less spicy to my liking but overall it's good.

    Gujarati Thali
    Dhruti T.

I went here for lunch on a weekend for their unlimited thalis and had a great experience! There was a slight wait to be seated but definitely worth it! The food itself is delicious, but the service and staff I think make the meal. They check in on all the guests frequently, refilling everything that the seems to be emptying. There is a lot of variety in terms of the items that come with the thali. You can't go wrong with any of them, but my personal favorite was the Kathiyawadi Thali. There is also unlimited chaas on the side to enjoy with the meal. Definitely would recommend!

    Gujarati thali

If you want to eat good big Indian meal this is the place. They had variety of pure vegetarian items in the thali. We tried Kathiyawadi and Gujarati thaali. And everything on the plate was unlimited. Make sure if you're going there for lunch do not have breakfast and have super light dinner a day before because you might end up stuffing yourself. They even have a store right beside their restaurant that has a lot of dry snack items, pickles, some sweets. Worth the try. The only con we thought was it was a bit pricey. 25.99$ per thali was a bit too much.

We're still looking around for our go-to Indian restaurant in the area as our kids love saag/palak paneer and we used to go at least once a month where we moved from. But we finally made it! We came here on a Monday that also fell on a holiday so they had a steady amount of customers. We were the only non-Indian customers, which appears to be normal. They're located in a small strip along with 2 or 3 other businesses. Shared parking is behind the building so most people entered through the back door. It was about half full when we got there so I can see it filling up fast during crowded times. Walk through because no one is at the back but there is a small clothing rack to hang coats; the counter is at the front by the front door. We made ourselves known and were promptly seated. They serve vegetarian food and many are Swaminarayan-friendly (allium-free, which appears to be their default mode), certain can be made Jain as well! They do use alliums but overall, they seem to be able to make most of the dishes without alliums. We ordered the following, Swaminarayan-style and mild because one of my kids can do but mild food: DAHI PURI: I usually get pani puri but decided to try it out since it's been a while since I had this. It came out first as the appetizer, was a thing of beauty, and there are A LOT of flavors in there. The sweet-leaning yogurt, sev with its textural differences, the freshness of the cilantro, the spiced potatoes, the tart pomegranate seeds... My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. PALAK PANEER: This was ordered for my kids. Green gravy with tender paneer. They liked it! The curry got a little too spicy but it didn't hit them until later. My kid with the food allergies ate all the paneer when the gravy grew too spicy for him. MALAI KOFTA: This is different from the malai kofta I've had before but not in a bad way. I definitely think they use cashew "cream" in this. It's lightly sweet in a way that reminds me of cashews. The kofta are soft and I'm pretty sure are paneer based. This is probably the most mild curry we ordered, both in terms of spice and spices. This was my pick because I usually can't order malai kofta at Indian restaurants so I was pleased I could hear. MATAR METHI MALAI: I love how Indian curries are so straightforward when it comes to names. I'm not sure what to expect with this but my husband didn't know what to get so I nudged him towards this. He wanted MATAR PANEER but it's not on the menu. This is essentially fenugreek pea curry in a milky gravy. It has very interesting spices and flavor. A little more bland than the others, yet not at the same time. Must be that fenugreek! For some odd reason, it reminded me of coconut chutney I've had before. We also got ROTI for one of my kids who prefers bread over rice. All curries come with white basmati. For drinks, we got MANGO LASSI, SPRITE, and CHAAS (buttermilk). The buttermilk was different! Much more spiced than I expected. I also swear at one point I tasted a raw onion bit but it only happened once so who knows if it was mistaken blended in or it was all in my head. I do remember it was STRONG though. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised at the sheer amount of choices we had. Our bill totaled to around $90 (curries are around $20, Dahi puri was $12) and we brought home some leftovers. They seem to be family run and are fairly nice and helpful. We would likely go back again to try more things, but the palak paneer isn't completely up our kids' alley to become their favorite. If you have food allergies, let them know. My youngest has multiple food allergies including to nuts and wheat. Most of their curries contains nuts EXCEPT for the palak paneer and their bhindi (okra) dish. Luckily for my kid. Despite how nuts are a common ingredient in the kitchen, my kid was completely fine during and after eating. Note: their menu says they charge gratuity for parties of 4 people or more. My husband says he didn't see it on the bill when it was time to pay. Not sure if that statement is now outdated or it only counts if there are 4+ ADULTS.

But the more we looked into the menu, the more excited we became. I would say their specialty is burgers and sandwiches. Virtually every ingredient is made from scratch daily (except the sourdough bread, from a local farm), including impressive items like multiple types of burger patty and cheesy cashew sauce. We were so excited about their food that we went three days in a row! Day 1: The Fogwood smoky burger was outstanding. The BLT was also delicious; we loved the smoke salted tofu. For a lighter option, we got the sunshine curry quinoa chickpea bowl. It was healthy and nutritious, although I felt the flavor profile was a bit off; it was heavy on the curry powder and weirdly sweet. The side of mac and cheese was GREAT. We loved the sauce made from sweet potatoes, carrots, and cashews (I think it was oil-free). Not heavy or creamy, just flavorful and good! For dessert, we got the lavender almond cupcake which we LOVED. It was gluten-free, although you wouldn't guess it. It had a perfect fluffy texture and great nuanced flavor. We loved that it wasn't made with coconut oil (just olive oil). Truly special. The vast majority of their desserts (as well as their homemade cheeses) do contain coconut oil. Day 2: The patty melt sandwich was a big hit. Incredible flavor. The Levi Reuben served over greens (instead of on bread) was also delicious. We loved the fennel sage patty and the homemade sauerkraut. We got the kids' PB&J as a snack which was SO good with homemade peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam. Very impressive. Lastly, we couldn't resist getting the signature Snickers-inspired bar, which was so good it should be illegal. Day 3: We were excited to try their daily special, the teriyaki chili rice bowl, made with homemade ginger tofu patties. It was delicious, although it could have used some greens. We tried two more of their burgers to explore the menu further, the flirty burger and the teriyaki burger, and both were great. A devastating disappointment came when, even though we walked in within 10 minutes of their opening, they had already sold out of the special dessert advertised on their Instagram, the carrot spice cupcake with pecan glaze, the only dessert they had that was coconut-free. It seems like they inexplicably only make 4-6 cupcakes per day and then don't make more even if they sell out?! (Who does that??) Overall, we loved the food and are so glad they exist. Major props for making so many things from scratch. We really appreciated how nothing was fried or greasy, really hard to find these days. They also deserve special mention for having top-notch service. All the employees were so kind and accommodating, and every dish came out quickly and made to perfection. We all just ordered and paid at the counter, so we didn't have to worry about splitting the checks. Since I'm vegan, it was a little more difficult to accommodate because the tacos I would have liked that were less spicy had cheese on them. The chef accommodated me by adding more beans and rice in the taco, and it turned out really good. I also tried the Black Magic tacos. These were a little spicy for me, but I could really taste the deep flavor. They were just too spicy for me to finish, so I gave them to my friends. My friends who love spice tried the Black Magic tacos and they loved them. In fact, they were their favorite thing on the menu. And they're not even vegan. I like how it's a casual environment where you pick the table you want to sit at. You can combine tables if you need to, grab your forks and knives, get your drinks from the refrigerator, and then order at the counter. This is a good spot for groups because the tables can easily be put together and you can pay at the counter. It's a great place for people who love spice. If you don't like spice, there are a couple things on the menu that aren't spicy and are still delicious, so everyone can be accommodated, whether you love spice, don't love spice, are vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian, or love to eat meat. The restaurant also provides hot sauce if you want your food even spicier, and my friends told me the hot sauce is really, really good. I also love that it was easy to make things vegan here since everything is already vegetarian. We all enjoyed it so much, and we'd like to go back soon.

This was my first time coming back to Turf, Surf and Earth since their new menu change. I walked in…read moreat 11am and went up to the kiosk, and realized that only breakfast items were available. I wanted to try something from the lunch menu, after asking an employee, I was told that lunch starts at 11:30am. So I came back around that time to order. I've been seeing their Big Mack Smash on social media for some time now, and it looks delicious. So I decided to I order their single patty Big Mack Smash, with angus meat and American cheese, on a plant based white bun. I don't care for sesame seeds on buns, and there was no option for a regular burger bun (without sesame seeds), so I chose the non sesame seed vegan bun. I also ordered a side of fries with garlic aioli. The plant based white bun was a little dry and the burger patty was also dry and did not have much flavor. Maybe I should have done a double patty for the burger, since it is a smashed patty and a little too thin for my liking. I felt like I was eating a dry burger bun with mostly lettuce, an occasional pickle and the Mack sauce. I probably will not order the garlic aioli again, it had a sweeter and nutty flavor to it, and I prefer more of a savory aioli. I used to order their Blackened salmon with a side of greens and Spanish rice in their BBQ Ranch flavor style, from their old menu. I do miss that meal, it was so flavorful with the crispy onions to top everything off. But I understand that they made the change to better suit the business and cut back on waste. I probably would not order the big Mack burger again. But I will definitely be back to try something else from the new menu. I've been a customer for over 6 years, and have introduced some of my family members and friends to this restaurant, and we've enjoyed our meals here for that time. I love that there are many vegan and vegetarian options here. Although I am neither, it's a great place for those who have dietary restrictions/preferences. Hopefully I find my new go to menu item soon, but in the meantime I will be ordering and trying many of the other new menu items. This is definitely the place to come if you don't want a typical vegan meal. You'd be like a kid in a candy store, with the amount of options that are here. They also have many non vegan options. Turf, Surf and Earth serves EVERYONE and that is their biggest positive!

I called late morning(Saturday) and was able to get a reservation at 5pm. Upon entering we were greeted by two large birthday parties in progress; for a 100 year old woman and for a 75 year old woman. However, we were seated immediately and brought fresh crusty bread and spicy olives, and our wine was opened. Our waiter, Joe, told us the evening specials and gave us a chance to look at the menu. To my disappointment, no gnocchi amongst the regular and specials. We decided upon entrees and when Joe returned I mentioned my and my wife's disappointment at the absence of gnocchi. Joe excused himself and went into the kitchen returning shortly. He said the chef would make us an order of gnocchi even though it was not on the menu. He said the chef would prepare it any way we wanted; this in a jam packed Saturday night restaurant. Now that's service! We told him to surprise us with chef's choice and we would share the order as an appetizer. When he returned it was with a large platter of gnocchi with small potato cubes, and sweet acorn squash in a savory, slightly tomatoey, cream sauce. Each item perfectly cooked with al dente precision. Our grilled shrimp and frenched pork chop entrees also perfectly cooked. Joe also brought out complimentary Ice cream and candle to accompany our cappuccino and espresso. We both found it to be a great dinner! Thank you Joe and thank you chef!

We waited 45 minutes in a crowded vestibule along with others who also had to wait up to an hour. This did not go over well for our party of six. On to the food and service. The others fell short. The food and service are very good. In defense of the server, she did send fried zucchini on the house for our wait and it was appreciated. However, based on other reviews and our experience, I will return-but it won't be on a weekend night and be subjected to that kind of wait again. Cramming a restaurant and not honouring reservations eventually gets old.
