Soon as you walk in you are greeted by very nice staff!! I'm not kidding when I tell you the staff here gives top notch service. The interior is very unique with the bollywood music in the background. The sauces that come with the papadums is sooooo good. Best sauces I have ever had with the papadums. We had a lovely dinner here this past weekend with a group of friends. The food and the service were both wonderful. We went family style and ordered a number of dishes and opted for medium spice level. We tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Jalfrezi, Saag Paneer, Fish Curry, Lamb Rogan Josh, Garlic and Plain Naan. The food was very good. The fish curry and chicken dishes were the standouts. Saag Paneer is one of my favorite dishes, but I don't like when restaurants add a cream base. That's what many restaurants seem to do as was the case here. It's not really the traditional way. For dessert, the Gulab Jamun and Rasmali were the perfect sweet treats to satisfy our taste buds after a nice meal. Several members of the staff continually checked on us to make sure we were happy with our food and had everything we needed. The interior had unique decor and the tables and chairs were fitted with red covers. The ceiling had black tiles, which is an interesting choice. We were the first to arrive on a weekday so it was great to have the whole restaurant to ourselves. Almost all the dishes were out and after the first plate, the remainder were brought out. I was very happy with the experience! I went on a Saturday buffet and for a while, we were the only customers but more families started coming in after. There were probably 8+ hot food options and freshly made naan sent directly to the table when requested. The food was plentiful, especially their goat curry, but I wonder if the little gas heat lamps don't do their job because the food cooled very quickly. I was very happy to see kheer and gulab jamun. The seekh kabobs tasted like they had freezer burn, completely dried out. Same with the chicken tikka, dry and flavorless. And I don't know what happened to that chicken biryani, but that was NOT biryani. With Bell peppers and whole onions stir fried in there, it tasted like they mixed chicken jalfrezi with white rice and called it biryani. Dahi Wada had an odd runny consistency and tasted spoiled. The buttered naans we ordered were flat, cold, and crispy -- completely the opposite of what a naan should be. I know what good Indian food should taste like and this place missed the mark epically. This was our first time here. We loved the food and the service was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer Vegetable Manchurian along with our 2 main Chicken dishes. The only reason we're missing the 5th star is that the Chicken dishes were ordered with Medium Spice; however, it was quite lacking in heat. I have ordered takeout of delicious butter paneer and biryani and I have also stopped in for the lunch buffet. My tips: the vegetarian items are the ones to get. The butter paneer is great and rich and exactly what you want. The rice is a good choice and their garlic naan is totally craveable. Get it fresh in the restaurant if you can. I really recommend finishing your meal with a cup of Indian masala chai to really hit the spot. The service is friendly and hospitable and I think the prices are very reasonable. New to the area and wanted to try this place to avoid driving to Edison. Ordered a Malai kofta and the gravy turned out to be nice and per my expectations. The Kofta itself was of vegetables (which they do mention in their menu) but in my opinion Malai kofta is of potato with paneer. Would need to fine tune my order and then I no need to drive to Edison . PS: I ordered medium spicy and it was good the taste is close to North Indian. For food, we ordered: Gobi Manchurian (5/5): this was a deep fried cauliflower in a sweet and spicy sauce served with green bell peppers and onions. I absolutely love fried cauliflower and this was perfect in terms of having tender cauliflower and crunch texture. Bollywood Special (5/5): this was delicious! For $14 this came with a TON of food including two different types of curry, naan, rice, and chicken. Went for a family dinner that included my ex-husband. Kinda strange, but we're on good terms. Our first time at Bollywood Tadka was a mix of the good and the weird. This is one of those places where the waiter doesn't write anything down. My ex ordered a vegetarian thali and specified mild. My daughter and I were sharing the Special Combo for two. It came with mulligatawny soup, tandoori chicken, ground beef kebab, and we chose the lamb rogan josh and vegetable korma, medium. It also had naan and raita. They omitted the raita, and we had to request it. We got an appetizer of Aloo Papdi Chaat for the young picky one who eats nothing except bread. He picked at the chickpeas, but ate all the chips, of course. Our soup was served, and before it even was cool enough to eat, the rest of the combo came out. Next came the ex's thali. His "mild" was so spicy that he couldn't eat it. It would have helped if the waiter had bothered to take notes. It had to be remade, and we were almost finished eating before he got it back. But midway through the wait, he realized that he had never gotten his soup. We all agreed that the mulligatawny was excellent, but although I like ginger a lot, those pieces were not chopped fine enough to prevent burning our mouths. Our chicken was dry, which tandoori chicken should never be. The ground beef had some substance that had us wondering if we were chewing on glass. Never did find out what it was. The lamb was also a bit tough, but the veggie korma was very good. When the thali at long last was delivered, the ex gave it two thumbs up. Service was extremely frustrating, from beginning to end. Sometimes things were whisked away without asking, and had to be brought out again. Towards the end, a waiter came out with our check, which was brought unasked before we ordered dessert. Then we ordered it. The owner then came out and asked how things were, and we said we were waiting for dessert. I told him we had ordered it, but he sent another waiter out to take our dessert order! That guy had me repeat it three times, and it wasn't until the fourth, when I had to raise my voice so loud that the whole restaurant looked up, that he understood me. It came right out, because the first guy had already placed the order. For dessert, the Carbo Kid had Gulab Jamun, and we shared the fruit pudding. We didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be a mango pudding, with some pear chunks, and was tasty. Language was a big problem, and not everything that was supposed to be served was provided; it was only when driving back that we realized that we never got the coffee or tea that was supposed to be included. As for the food, I have to agree with another Yelp reviewer that's it's best to stick with the veggies. And to make sure you're getting everything you're supposed to get. Waited an hour and decided to call the restaurant only to be told they don't deliver or work via Grubhub and that I could cancel my order, I was willing to drive and pick up. I called Grubhub to confirm they wouldn't deliver and even they had trouble communicating with this restaurant and the restaurant hung up on Grubhub staff multiple times. Grubhub refunded my money but I waisted two hours of time where I could have gotten food in another restaurant with better customer service! read more
