Surf Turf and Earth is one of my go-to weekly spots when I want something healthy, quick, and consistently good. I usually get the California Honey and it never disappoints. It's super crispy, not greasy at all, and the homemade honey mustard sauce is amazing. It's perfect on the sesame bun and honestly one of my favorite meals to grab during the week. My boyfriend always goes for the build-your-own bowls, which he loves because he can customize exactly what he wants every time. They're always really good and a great option if you're in the mood for something tailored to you. I also went for breakfast for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I tried the Fruity Pebbles matcha, which was pretty good, though I think I would've liked it even more with 2% milk, which they didn't seem to have. I also had the So Extra sandwich and it was so good. The hash brown was still perfectly crispy inside the sandwich, the eggs were fried just right, I loved the touch of spinach, and whatever sauce was on it really tied everything together. This was my first time coming back to Turf, Surf and Earth since their new menu change. I walked in at 11am and went up to the kiosk, and realized that only breakfast items were available. I wanted to try something from the lunch menu, after asking an employee, I was told that lunch starts at 11:30am. So I came back around that time to order. I've been seeing their Big Mack Smash on social media for some time now, and it looks delicious. So I decided to I order their single patty Big Mack Smash, with angus meat and American cheese, on a plant based white bun. I don't care for sesame seeds on buns, and there was no option for a regular burger bun (without sesame seeds), so I chose the non sesame seed vegan bun. I also ordered a side of fries with garlic aioli. The plant based white bun was a little dry and the burger patty was also dry and did not have much flavor. Maybe I should have done a double patty for the burger, since it is a smashed patty and a little too thin for my liking. I felt like I was eating a dry burger bun with mostly lettuce, an occasional pickle and the Mack sauce. I probably will not order the garlic aioli again, it had a sweeter and nutty flavor to it, and I prefer more of a savory aioli. I used to order their Blackened salmon with a side of greens and Spanish rice in their BBQ Ranch flavor style, from their old menu. I do miss that meal, it was so flavorful with the crispy onions to top everything off. But I understand that they made the change to better suit the business and cut back on waste. I probably would not order the big Mack burger again. But I will definitely be back to try something else from the new menu. I've been a customer for over 6 years, and have introduced some of my family members and friends to this restaurant, and we've enjoyed our meals here for that time. I love that there are many vegan and vegetarian options here. Although I am neither, it's a great place for those who have dietary restrictions/preferences. Hopefully I find my new go to menu item soon, but in the meantime I will be ordering and trying many of the other new menu items. This is definitely the place to come if you don't want a typical vegan meal. You'd be like a kid in a candy store, with the amount of options that are here. They also have many non vegan options. This was my first time actually attending this spot and it was unique. They had books and games to interact with. They had plenty of tables to sit at and kiosks where ordering was done. I had the grandma's boy, cashew mac n' cheese, and a customizable bowl. The grandma's boy consisted of a fried oyster mushroom, red cabbage, pickles, pepper jack, chipotle mayo, and horseradish on a white bun. This was not bad. The sandwich was filled to capacity, and the sauces were a nice combination along with the crispy cheese. The pickles were good and I wish there were even more added. The fried mushroom just tasted like batter without much from the mushroom, which was really the only negative about this. The mac and cheese was made with a homemade cashew cheese. Texturally, it felt like a traditional mac and cheese, but the sauce threw me off a little. It was more plain than anything. Regarding my bowl, I opted for blackened chicken, quinoa, spring mix, bacon, chickpeas, corn, edamame, and a house Greek dressing. This was nicely put together. Stopped in to try their brunch menu They have self order kiosks but I decided to use the cashier to order my food. I decided to go with the kicker omelette and a fresh squeezed orange juice. The omelette wasn't bad it was a mild spicy taste which works well with the egg. The home fries didn't have any flavor and theres no condiments at the table so I didn't use ketchup. The restaurant itself is nice and bright but it was also very loud when it's busy so it was hard to have a conversation I'm assuming because the ceiling looked made of metal. Also if you are a fan of guy fieri(I'm not) he visited here in 2022 so it should be on his fans to visit list. But my opinion of this place is if you live in the area and looking for a brunch spot without having to take the car this could be a nice option for you. With so many plant-based options available along with plant-based sauces, makes it such an inclusive spot for people with dietary restrictions. This place is located in Somerville downtown but more on the outskirts rather than the central area. Our friends introduced us to this place. Ambience: This place reminds me of a spot you would find at the beach. It's casual and chill. Good place to come with friends or family. Food: We got the impossible burger, the California Chicken, and onion rings. Thought it was a bit pricey for onion rings, but you get a whole platter. Highly recommend if you're an onion ring lover! They were big, round, nice and crispy. The California Chicken was good - the chicken was crispy and thick but still juicy. The impossible burger tasted like a burger but nothing special. The plant based patty was thin and since I'm not a vegan would rather just eat the real thing. Our friends got bowls and they looked really big, healthy and yummy. Service: They bring the food out to you once you order at the counter. They have an area on the other side of the kitchen where you can get your own water, condiments, and to go box. Sometimes it's hard to know what to eat when one person wants vegan while the other does not. Thankfully, McKenzie and her husband, the owners of Turf Surf and Earth, faced a similar problem. McKenzie took the time to chat and explained that she was vegan, but her husband was a vegetarian. Thus, when going out, it was hard, and when going out to eat, that shouldn't be the case. We go out to enjoy ourselves, not debate and get frustrated. This sparked an idea, and they saw that there is a solution. Open an eatery that offers food that's vegan-friendly, some other dishes for vegetarians, and some dishes for meat lovers. This way, everyone is happy! As people who are flexitarians, we are thrilled. While I lean towards vegetarian, it also depends on my body and what it wants. Their offerings from breakfast dishes to lighter snacks are a feast for the eyes. Let's see how they taste. After perusing their menu, I decided on The Cuban. It is a vegetarian sandwich that consists of mushrooms, plant-based bacon, and Swiss cheese, served with pickles on a roll. I also had to have my onion rings. The portions are huge and big enough to share! Now for the moment of truth... o.m.g. it was heaven on a tray!!! As I feasted on my tray of deliciousness, I was sitting in a beautiful place filled with beautiful and healthy plants. Great spot for families for a quick, delicious dinner. Came with the kids on a Friday night. They have a spot in the front of the restaurant with a couch, books for everyone and toys. There was a musician playing the night we went and there's plenty of high chairs. I got the veggie burger with onions and guac. So delicious. The bun was also very good. Women owned business in Central Jersey are killing it! I almost forgot how much I loved Turf Surf and Earth! Haven't been in a while but decided to stop in for some take out dinner. I ordered the gyro with chicken and the cheesesteak with angus beef. Both were absolutely delicious! Both handheld options were packed with meat and flavor. My boyfriend and I devoured every bite. Safe to say this is going to be part of our dinner rotation from now on. The service was also impeccable. Brianne was lovely and very helpful when placing my order with her. The restaurant is also tastefully designed and very clean. This is the perfect spot for almost any time of day, breakfast lunch and dinner. I loved this place. TSE was one reason we chose to move to the town -- great food within walking distance. The recent menu change brought a change in the quality of the food. Ordered an angus burger. The burger was less than 1/4" thick. Didn't really taste like a "burger" because it was so thin; definitely not juicy and was overcooked. I'm probably a little too naughty to be the target demographic for this place (case in point, as soon as I was done here I went down the street to Bliss to get a pastry). However, I'd heard good things about Turf and when my chum and I decided to do a hike 10 minutes from downtown Somerville on Saturday, this was my suggestion for lunch afterwards. I was a little concerned about parking (Somerville can be insane in that regard depending on when you're there), but there were oodles of spaces just to the north in a residential area and I had zero issues in that regard. The place was fairly busy when we got there around 1:45ish, but not overwhelmingly so. What WAS a little overwhelming was their giant menu to the right of the entrance, which I stared at blankly for a few seconds before getting my bearings. Even for someone who's not inclined to go too healthy when eating out (I'm a work in progress like everyone else), it's almost impossible not to find something here to munch on. Beyond the build-your-own bowl options, which predictably center on meat, seafood and plant-centric bases, there's a separate entree section of the menu, plus a brunch menu, PLUS a coffee menu. It's a lot. And to their credit, there's a lot of physical room for customers to basically do what I did, which was stand in the middle of the restaurant and contemplate for five minutes. I saw others do it, and it didn't create any awkwardness or congestion issues. I went with the build-your-own option with grilled salmon, white rice, two avocado sides, an egg and chipotle mayo. The kiosks to order at are pretty sophisticated but easy to use and I'm sure it eliminates a lot of potential human error on the part of the staff given that you have so many different options to play around with. This establishment is billed as fast-casual, so I was expecting the food to come out within 10 to 15 minutes; it was on the longer side of that (probably right at 15 minutes), but I don't think it was egregious especially because this was clearly fresh and made-to-order, coupled with a lot of to-go orders that I saw being picked up throughout my time there. Also, I tend to be a little hangry after a hike so I would have been impatient if this took two minutes. The food itself was very good. I didn't find it as filling as I hoped despite the inclusion of the egg and the rice, but it definitely hit the spot. Also, if you're hoping to feel stuffed based on a salmon/avocado-centered experience, I think you're expectations are a bit skewed. The presentation was good, and the portion was decent. My biggest issue with it was the price point. Ultimately (with the exception of the egg), this amounted to what I would have gotten at a poke bowl place. Even in downtown NYC, that would have ended up costing me about $20. Because literally every single ingredient ends up being an add-on, my price with tip ended up being $30. That's just too much for this type of meal, even if the ingredients ARE top-notch, especially when your interaction with the staff is likely minimal. Other than when the food was dropped off at the table, I didn't talk to anyone. Ultimately, this is a recommend - it's not easy to find unapologetically healthy options that also taste decent to people with bad to the bone palates like myself - but if push came to shove I would go to a poke bowl place for similar and cheaper food. read more

I've eaten at or ordered takeout from TSE a total of 3 times, and the first and third times I ordered the blackened salmon with Spanish rice, baja style. This time I also ordered a side of sweet potato fries, which are large and definitely shareable (I did have to season it with salt and pepper myself which was fine with me). Finally got the try the Grandma's Boy signature sandwich that was featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and it did not disappoint! I'm partial to mushrooms - order me any type of mushroom burger/sandwich and there's a 99.9% chance I'll love it! But the oyster mushroom in the sandwich was cooked to perfection with a delicious crunch, and the combination of the pickles, chipotle mayo, and horseradish sauce gave the meal a pungent but delicious and memorable flavor. I highly recommend it! I loved the overall ambiance of the interior with its cozy vibe and the styling of the many plants around the space. I'm writing this review while still sitting in the booth because it's that good. Tons of plant based options while also offering meat and dairy options as well. I had the breakfast sandwich with plant based egg, vegan bacon, plant based pepper jack (!!) and the chipotle mayo on an English muffin. I planned on eating half since I had lunch plans shortly after but it was too good I ate the whole thing in a few minutes. My mom got the breakfast sandwich with turkey sausage, real egg and the plant based cheddar (since she's dairy free) and she thoroughly enjoyed hers as well. She also loved the cold brew. The burger was juicy and perfectly cooked. The lightly packed meat gave way to tender, satisfying bites. However it was slightly under seasoned and lacked a crust. The sweet potato fries held up; they were freshly fried and almost as wide as a steak fry. The food tasted of quality ingredients that were treated well - it truly felt like a meal I would have at home, which one could argue is good or bad. I would have liked something more interesting or inspired for the price.
