Has anyone ever had knee surgery performed by Dr. Kathleen Savage? If so how did the procedure go?

The short and sweet answer is that, if my right knee requires replacement as well she will be the one to do it. This is a pretty intrusive and major operation and the recovery period can be fairly long.…

Highly recommended!

If you care about your health and well being, do not come to a place that practices mill medicine,…read morecontrary to the standard of care. Multiple rushed and poor experiences here with several physicians. Most of your face time here is with physician assistants. When a doctor experiences significant tactile resistance during an injection and openly admits a lesion isn't behaving like a typical cyst, shifting to a passive "wait-and-see" approach without looking at your historical imaging is simply a contradiction in clinical logic. Calling that out isn't about being confrontational; it is about recognizing that your intuition was right, your questions are valid. Dr. Billings operates a medical mill. I came to see Dr Billings (incidentally CEO of Pasadena Orthopedics) for a thumb lesion xrayed 5 years ago and never biopsied. She injected my thumb without so much as objectively establishing if the lesion was solid or cystic. She told me with utmost confidence that I have a cyst. She suddenly revised her diagnosis while in the midst of obviously struggling to inject the lesion with steroids. She wanted to move fast because volume means Benjamins $. I walked in with little to no pain, and walked out unable to fully flex or extend my thumb without pain. The office then gave me the run around for a simple imaging request after the pain progressively worsened and insinuated that the response to my injection in 6 weeks is "diagnostic." No rationale was offered. Billings tried to pivot with, "let's see if we get a treatment response." Truth is, she realized unnecessary needle trauma would have to be healed from forcefully trying to inject steroids (liquid) in something with the density of an eraser (before imaging could become meaningful). I offered to show them prior imaging, but they were too busy churning out patients. I came here for diagnostic clarity, not to sit around for 2 hours and be provided substandard care. The audacity of trying to pass it off as, "let's wait to see if the treatment responds" (damn well knowing it's not behaving like a cyst and forcing fluid in a solid mass in a patient's thumb). Come on now.

I decided to have my 2nd appt with Dr. Moscarello. What a huge difference. He spent about 3 x the time with me and went over the makeup of the quad tendon, how it tore and explained things from my MRI with me as well. Just a very knowledgeable guy. Very nice gentleman too. I left there feeling informed and like my time was well spent with him. Thanks Doctor!

The doctor I saw told me that he could not repair the meniscus tear because if he did I would have to have a knee replacement. Instead he recommended a cortisone shot and 5 weeks of gel shots and eventually I would have to have a knee replacement. With that advice we decided to make an appointment with Dr Heinen. I was impressed with the office staff, they were efficient and accommodating. They scheduled an appointment right away. We met with Dr Heinen and he looked at my MRI and told me he could repair the meniscus tear in an out patient surgery center. He explained he would review the knee and determine what was needed. I had the surgery and was released two hours later. I'm able to put weight on my knee and should be better within the next 4 days. Dr Heinen is wonderful, he is excellent at what he does and I trust him and highly recommend him, his staff and the surgical center. If I could rate his services higher I would have given him 10 STARS!! Sincerely, Elaine Weideman

However, I had limited knee pain and no difficulty walking; the main issue was painful compensation on my left side. He outlined several treatment options, but the conversation seemed to focus on dismissing alternatives in favor of a total knee replacement which felt far too aggressive at this stage. It came across more like a sales pitch than a recommendation based on my best interests. There is no patient portal, nothing digitized, no texts, nothing. I personally find these features immensely helpful in understanding and organizing my ongoing treatment. Seems outdated since I don't think I have any providers without a portal these days. The few pages of pre-surgery information they sent me by mail seemed painfully inadequate. When I made the initial appt, they told me they accept Blue Shield PPO, but when I looked at the claim in the BS portal yesterday I noticed they were out of network. When I called to ask about it, I was told I should have asked or looked into it on my own, but I very rarely ever run into providers who aren't in network so I didn't think of it. So I guess that's on me. Maybe I'm being picky, but I feel that is a point worth mentioning especially when considering the huge expense of major surgery. Some of the portals that I mentioned above also let you know your insurance summary *before* the appt. To be fair, he was easy to talk to, listened to my concerns, and did not rush through the appointment. Clearly he has helped a lot of people so he's doing something right. But after considering all of the above, I decided not to move forward with the surgery.
