I booked an online appointment which was time consuming and painful process (fill all my personal information, insurance, create and account on ZocDoc). I got 5 emails and 4 text messages before my appointment to make sure I was going to be there and they add all my information. The day of the appointment, I show up to her office 10 minutes ahead of my first appointment and the front desk lady who was as nice as a prison door asks me to enter my phone number in their iPad which doesn't recognize my number. After telling them I was here to see Dr Kathryn, they tell me that she's not available for 2 weeks and they could re-schedule me then. it was very disappointing experience not only because they waste my time but that after 5 emails and 4 text messages they could figure out that she was not available for 2 weeks it's insane to me. read more

This review is long overdue. I have been a patient of Dr Riley for six years. I initially came to her because of the chronic neck and back pain that I carried around as an overworked parent of a young child. She did a thorough physical exam and x-rays, and recommended a treatment approach including at-home therapy to do in-between chiropractic adjustments. It took persistence in following the protocol, but after a few months my pain was gone and I eventually achieved full range-of-motion in my neck and shoulders under her care. At that point, I decided to come in at intervals for maintaining this achieved spinal health. Correction of spine deformation takes a long time, and although I no longer have chronic pain, I can see the progress made by using her recommended at-home therapy and periodic adjustments during my annual assessment. She thoroughly explains anatomy and function during the assessments, measuring progress through angle measurement on x-ray images. I'm delighted that my progress in correcting spinal alignment now will help to prevent more chronic pain in the future. And when an issue pops up, I'm now able to quickly treat it. A few weeks ago, I tweaked my lower back moving heavy items in the garage, and one treatment from Dr Riley resolved my pain. To me, it is very well worth the time and effort. I look forward to seeing Dr Riley, as she is so personable, down-to-earth and caring. When my son was 6, he injured his back by jumping off a tall bed and landing hard in a strange way. I noticed that, after looking down at his schoolwork for a while, he would roll his head around like his neck was bothering him. So, I took him to see Dr. Riley. She was so gentle and patient with him, and she was able to show us through x-ray the alignment issue in his neck. She knows how to interact with children, I think due to her former career as a school teacher. She started him on 'tractioning' by lying on a Denneroll cushion for several minutes each day, which we were able to do at home by attaching an ipad to the underside of our dining room table and allowing him to watch a cartoon. Every other week, we also brought him to Dr Riley for an adjustment. Within several months, he had stopped rolling his head around and was able to read for a long duration without discomfort. At his one year assessment, he showed a huge improvement in the curvature of his neck! We kept up the momentum for another two years, with intermittent adjustments and tractioning at home. He currently has no discomfort, and he has an appreciation for spine health at a young age. Being a very physical child, he experiences sports injuries every once in a while. I never hesitate to bring him to Dr. Riley for an adjustment to help with the healing process. She has helped myself and my son so much that my husband finally started seeing her to address his posture and back pain struggles. This review was long long overdue but I always wanted to spread words about Dr. Kathryn Riley. I saw her many many times on and off for different issues over last 6-7 years. She was quickly able to fix some severe issues such as lingering chronic backpains and slip disc that Ortho or Physical therapy couldn't resolve and recovery was slow. Dr Riley has a light touch but do not misjudge the positive effects if, like me, you are used to lots of back cracking. I started seeing Dr. Riley 4 months ago when my headaches were becoming completely unbearable. These headaches would debilitate me to the point of not being able to do anything but lie in bed. When I initially made an appointment, I thought I would be adjusted right away, however, I was brought to a room to be educated about how my body works and why I was experiencing the pain I was feeling. Initially I was a little upset because I had been in a lot of pain and wanted to get an adjustment, but I was happy that Dr. Riley was taking my pain seriously and felt it necessary to gather scans on my neck and back. Come to find out, I was in a LOT worse shape than I had initially thought. Dr. Riley set me up with a plan that not only worked with my work schedule but she also allowed me to make payments thus working with my financial situation as well. Over the last 4 months, I have had only 3 headaches, when I used to get them on a daily basis!! Dr. Riley has done wonders on my neck and has provided me with equipment to use at home to further my progress. I am so thankful for her help and for the care she has provided for me. The office staff is welcoming and the sign in process is seamless. The only problem with the office would be the parking situation. Every time I went, I had to park at a nearby lot and climb through some brush because the chiropractor lot was always full. (Mostly with individuals associated with the day care center next door) They even have signs up that says something along the lines of "Silicon Valley Chiropractor Center, all others will be towed" but they clearly aren't towing anyone.. maybe they should start? I was referred to Dr Riley by my Ob/Gyn because of my constant tingling and numbness in my fingers after my pregnancy. On the first day of my appointment Dr Riley did a through exam of my condition by asking various questions about my symptoms and then she explained what might be the root cause of the numbness and why it's still happening even after 4 months of delivery. I am regularly seeing the Dr and my numbness has reduced considerably. Without the numbness or tingling I am able to do my daily activities without any effort. I am glad I was referred to Dr Riley, she is very friendly and kind person who believes in fixing the root cause of the pain rather then just fix it temporarily and be done. Oh boy, this is probably the worst experience me and my wife had at a chiropractor. The entire team at this facility works to hook a suffering patient and reel him/her into expensive care. Riley talks something that sounds like, uh, science, she calls it "biophysics". But when it comes to care, all she is interested is money. She and her team will sit you down, scare you of your condition and sometimes one, sometimes multiple people will talk to you about how much it is going to cost you. I see Dr. Riley regularly on Tuesday evenings. I've been going to her for over a year now. The ladies at the front desk, particularly Ada, are lovely as is Dr. Riley. She is very knowledgeable about chiropractic care. My neck curve isn't great (my neck is too straight). As such, the adjustments and traction work we do together focus on bringing back this natural curve. She works with you and your insurance plan in a way that is fair and straight forward. I have been seeing Dr. Riley on and off since 2008. She has been very helpful in mitigating and fixing my lower back, shoulder and neck problems. In addition I have a serious case of misalignment and she was the only chiropractor that was able to address it. She is thorough as she takes X-rays on the first session, takes a lot of measurement, and verifies the various range of motions. Then she basis her recommendations on this info in addition to what are the pressing items you need to get fixed. I started doing treatments of 15-20 sessions within couple months and moved into maintenance mode where I see her now about once a month. I feel great and I highly recommend her. One thing I must highlight is that her sessions, other than the usual adjustment which is about 10 mins, also include treatment for spine alignment followed by applying ice on the neck/shoulders/back. Then she uses a machine that does massage to your back (can't recall the name of it). I have not seen any of that done elsewhere by other chiropractors. I feel really awesome after her sessions. In my specific case, I am with CIGNA and it's a total pain to get them to approve my sessions because they delegate chiropractic approvals to some third party organization whose sole purpose is to refuse any reimbursement. Dr. Riley was very understanding and she helped me battle them by producing all the x-rays, notes from the visits, assessment etc... She also offered me a special rate as cash patient and I have been paying out of pocket since last year (She is out of network for me anyways so the difference between that and paying cash is worth it to avoid all the insurance problems). I highly recommend her and in fact my wife is her patient and after a car accident she treated both of our little kids aged 4 and 8. read more

After months of back and knee pain I made an appt with Dr. Riley. My primary care physician and physical therapist had been unable to find the root cause or alleviate the pain. It's a little interesting how everyone in these 5-star reviews talks about awesome spine alignment that Riley has them thinking she does. Well.. not every normal person thinks, "Gee.. let me see my arm hurts, or my thigh has a strain; oh yeah it must be my spine". No!! I had a very very bad experience with this chiropractor. I went to her for my wrist pain. On the first visit about my wrist, she decided she must need my spine's x-ray both upper and lower body. So I ask her well, is it something serious and she says to me immediately - "oh no, your wrist is probably a locally sprained bone or muscle pull". So then why the x-ray? She quickly tells me, "The x-ray will tell her if my spine is aligned well". Err.... that's not why I went to her though. This is when she starts talking about how she is a well practiced bio-physicist and that I have come to the right place because my spine is not well aligned. Hey... but what about my wrist?! Remember, I still have an aching wrist !! At this point, she corners me in a room and tell me it will cost me roughly about $2000 for 24 sessions, which she thinks is appropriate, to fix my spine. She basically bombards me with info about how she is best in dealing with spines and that my spine is the key to my happiness. Me still confused as !@#^ what that has to do with my wrist and she already starts walking me out with a 24 session schedule and an agreement to pay $2000 if my insurance doesn't cover her absurd treatment plan ("without cause"). I ended up loosing many night of sleep thinking about my spine and ended up going to a different chiropractor who fixed my wrist in just two visits. I made the biggest mistake going to her for my chiropractic needs. She is a fraud. It is disappointing how she frames so many people into thinking all their problems have to do with their spine and that they should pay her boat loads to get that fixed even though they might be genuinely suffering from something entirely disconnected. Don't go to her. Take a second opinion from another chiropractor and you will feel relieved that you saved yourself from being ripped off by this scam artist !! read more

I've been a patient for a good 4 or 5 years now. Dr. Riley is knowledgeable and patient, and has helped me through several bouts of back and shoulder pain from heavy computer use. I go to her regularly for maintenance, but she always fits me in when I have an emergency, and will work until she's satisfied that my condition has improved. I've suffered from back problems ever since I first injured my back in HS back in 1978 in a weight-lifting accident. I have been to several chiropractors in the past to try to fix the issue I have with my lower back. When I was a lot younger I used to do Kung Fu for nearly a decade during which time I ended up severely injuring my lower back to the point where I had to quit practicing martial arts all together. The other chiropractors I saw did some adjustments here and there only to relieve the pain temporarily. In addition to this they charged me nearly double what Dr. Riley charged. After going to Dr. Riley for nearly a year, I have not had any random back pains except for those that were caused from over-exerting myself during exercises. Prior to having her as my chiropractor I would have random pains that were so severe at times that there was no position I could put myself in that would be comfortable. Few years ago I had severe pain in both my knees. At Palo Alto medical center the doctor prescribed pain medication and suggested knee surgery. I was on pain medication but did not opt for surgery. Dr. Riley came to my work for a health fair and explained how she can help. In about 3 months I could stop taking pain medication. She also helped me with posture adjustment. I am free from knee pain. Later when I had pain in my arms the traction she did for my neck helped make the pain go away. I have had sharp pains in my neck and lower back for a while now, some days it would be difficult to turn my head or bend down.
