I am now a regular at Kathy's cleaners. The service is fast and the prices are reasonable, especially for shirts and pants. Jackets are a bit expensive, especially the thick woolen ones. The lady at the counter is nice but I sometimes find it hard to understand her, especially when she cracks jokes. Otherwise, this is a decent place for getting your regular clothes dry cleaned as the prices are very reasonable. read more

I've been to this dry cleaner before and never had any issues, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I walked in at 2:35 p.m. needing three pairs of pants hemmed, and instead of simply telling me they were closing soon or even requesting I return another day, the owner looked annoyed and told me to "hurry up" because the shop closes at 3:00 p.m. I understand businesses have closing hours, but speaking to customers as if they're an inconvenience is completely unacceptable. There was no reason to be rude or dismissive, especially to someone who has been a customer before. Professionalism and basic courtesy go a long way, and unfortunately that was completely lacking here. I will not be returning. read more

Kathy's is a good cleaner- they always get things back super quickly and are friendly and never too busy. I've had some tough stains that they have managed to get out. However, their prices have been rising over the last few years and are pretty high these days. Over $20 for just one jumpsuit. If their prices were a tad lower, would be 5 stars. read more

This place is a total JOKE. Before I left for a long vacation a couple weeks ago, I took a huge load of clothes to be dry cleaned into Kathys. I picked the stuff up the next day and the total was around $130. I can totally live with that price if you actually DRY CLEAN my clothes. HOWEVER, upon going through it all now that I am back, every single clothing item is nearly ruined from getting thrashed around in a washer and dryer. Why would I have taken you my delicate sweaters to have you wash and dry them on high?! Most of the items were fairly new and had zero pilling on them whatsoever. Now? Everything is covered in pilling, the fabric is all faded and ruined, my sweaters look 5 years old, my polos are all shrunken, and my jeans were most certainly dried in high heat (my 6'4" husband has never had anyone shrink his jeans as badly as this place did, and his dark wash jeans look faded and sad and are an inch too short). This business is a sham and they should be ashamed of themselves for ruining the clothes of a customer who worked hard to buy them all in the first place and then paid for a service that was not delivered. Better off taking your clothes to a fluff and fold to have someone paid to actually wash your clothes. They'd do a better job. Lastly, the pressed shirts look like crap and have terrible wrinkles all over them. STAY AWAY and do NOT give people like this your business. read more

I hate doing this. I've had 3 great experiences with them up until now. I brought 2 dresses in to get dry cleaned for an upcoming wedding and went to pick them up 2 days before just to be conservative. When they brought my dress out, the 3 large decorative buttons in the center had been melted. I would have been less upset if this was the first time the dress had been dry cleaned and the buttons were destroyed because the dress was unfit for dry cleaning. It also would have been cool with me if they would have apologized for the error they made and said they would fix it. It's not like I have 3 giant jewel decorative buttons sitting around my apartment to fix it. I walked out with an "I'll see what we can do" answer and fuming. Guess I'm wearing a potato sack to the wedding? This woman that they have working during the day is not the polite service that I was used to getting at Kathy's before. I'm very disappointed and looks like I'll be hauling my dry cleaning out to the suburbs from now on. read more

I was a loyal customer of Kathy's for 3 years. They typically did a decent job on the dry cleaning, albeit at a high price, but Kathy's Cleaners fatal issue is customer service. I went to wear one of my favorite dresses they had dry cleaned that still had all the tissue and packaging in it and noticed large deodorant stains under the arm. I brought it back into the store to show them and to ask them to re-clean. The attendant accused me of wearing it and repackaging the dress in the tissue and plastic. I was so insulted by this. I had taken so many items there and spent so much money and yet the 4 times there was an issue with the quality of the dry cleaning Kathy's blamed me, the customer. I also used the alternation service on a bridesmaids dress and had to come back 3x because they didn't properly record the measurements the first time and the second time it wasn't finished. The customer is never right at Kathy's Cleaners, so if you want to be treated with respect and consideration go elsewhere. read more

Kathy's is great! First off, the staff are always so helpful and friendly, which really sets the tone. Secondly, they do great repair work. I have had jeans hemmed, pants taken in, and my all time favorite pair of jeans repaired numerous times whenever they acquired new holes due to excessive wear. Each time my items come back just as I asked, and they even noticed potential new holes starting on my jeans and fixed those too! One trip we made to Kathy's was right before a vacation/my boyfriends business trip to London. We needed the repetitively ripped jeans fixed, and two of my boyfriends dress pants cleaned before we left two days later. Although we obviously put them on a time crunch, they got the job done perfectly in time for our trip. Kudos to Kathy's! read more

Horrible service and customer service. They ripped 3 dress shirts in ONE VISIT and not only refused to give me any refund but insisted it was my fault for not taking care of my own shirts. Only problem was that 2 of the shirts that were ripped were obviously not even washed or cleaned - they were still dirty and looked very much like they got stuck under a door and dragged around. This was our "go-to" cleaners for years, but after this incident we are no longer coming back. You always want to make sure you are leaving your clothes (which you care enough about to have them cleaned/altered by somebody else) in hands you can trust, and I highly recommend you should skip this place. When I asked my pants to be altered, I specifically asked the extra material to be kept. The lady put it down on the slip (as shown in the pic). So why can't they do it?? And, why can't they admit the error, when I pointed out that they didn't?? A gesture of apology, a discount or even a simple sorry?? The lady said they did their job of cutting the hem, insisting on charging $14. What can I say, my experience was extremely different from what these rosy, wonderful reviews indicate: I have never written a review on this site, but I felt compelled to warn others as well as to drive business away from this wretched place after only my second experience there. My first experience was OK, other than the $30+ they charged to clean my comforter. About 1/3 the price of the darn thing. Yesterday evening after work, I pick up my order: a 2-piece, 2 shirts and 2 suit pants, one of which was supposed to have the hem fixed as well as cleaned. A while ago I get one of my pair of pants (the ones with the hem problem) from the hanger, only to find the fabric around the metal hook completely torn. Yeah, they fixed the hem but it was impossible to even fasten the pants, that's how ripped it was, they just fell. So basically I paid a total of $15 bucks for the hem and the "clean" so that they could ruin a pair of 2-month old $150 pants. I also went at looked at the rest of my stuff. One of the 2 shirts had a grease or sauce stain on it. Fairly large but totally manageable. In fact, I'm sure when I throw it in the washer it'll be fine. Well, they didn't even touch it. It is right in the middle of the shirt. And they hand it to me exactly as I handed it to them. Except they charged me $4.50 and I charged them zero. I'm going to go and complain on Monday but I know they'll say there's nothing they can do. I should have inspected the clothes while I was there but, pragmatically, who has the time to inspect every inch of every article of clothing they get from these idiots? I'm so upset right now I'm actually considering going and taking a dump in a box, and leaving it on their front steps... I still have all of Sunday to think about it. read more

When I came back wearing a pair of hemmed pants by Kathys staff asking why the hem is excessively wide 1 3/4" and one leg shorter by 1/2" she started to argue explaining that the wide hem was an extra effort and that she has been in the business for a long time. Do not use for alterations. I took a pair of linen pants in for a simple shortening. They were completely uneven, much shorter on the inner seam than the outer. Not slightly, but dramatically. I took the hem down and could hardly believe the cut I saw. Jagged, crooked, completely unprofessional. I had to completely re do the job, including sewing on a false hem in order to even them up, which should not have been necessary when they were 6" too long to start. I stopped back in and showed pictures of the bad cut. The man working the front said he would discuss with the owner. I said I expected my $20 back. He agreed and said he would call or text when I could return to pick it up. The call or text never came. I don't like to leave bad reviews but this deserves it. UPDATE: I stopped back in after several weeks, and my money was refunded. He said he tried to call me but had written down the wrong phone number. read more

I had an unfortunate episode with this service and had to write a poor review. However, after my review went up, Marina called me and offered to do the corrections free of charge. They also apologized for the actions of the offending staff who has been disciplined. It's unfortunate it had to get to this point to get the Management's attention but their corrective actions are all you can ask for in a responsive business. My family also runs a business and I appreciate that sometimes, the front line staff do not fully represent the owner's values. All you can do is to take visible action, reach out and apologize and repair the harm that's been done. The management has checked all the boxes here and for that, I give them the thumbs up. Advice: Display a number conspicuously at your locations that connect dissatisfied customers to a responsible party within your leadership cadre. This has the dual functions of keeping the frontline staff in check and allowing your immediate intervention before your business gets hammered for something that's not the owner's fault. read more

This cleaners has the best customer service around. There are only a couple of women that work there, I assume one is the owner. She always remembers me, and is super nice. I know it costs a bit more than the nasty cleaners across from Whole Foods, but it's worth it to know that my money is going to support someone who understands customer service. She even remembered that I would be going on vacation and welcomed me back from it as soon as I walked in the door, two or three weeks later! I totally recommend them. read more

This was the worst service I have ever had/ the worst alterations that I have ever experienced. They made me come in 3 times and on the 3rd time it still wasn't right and they made me pay 200 dollars when I had to leave their place and take it to another tailor that ended up doing it for me as a rush order because the wedding was in two days (at a cheaper price and the dress looks great!). So if you're looking for a better price and the job to be done the first time and right I would NEVER go here. If anything they should be shut down for business because of how poor of a job they did/ service. read more

I just moved into the neighborhood and was in search of a good tailor. I actually found Kathy's on yelp and read some good reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. I got two pairs of pants hemmed here and they did a great job! They charged me $10 for jeans and $12 for a pair of athletic pants which were both reasonably priced. Not only do they take EXTRA care of each and every item (have gotten stains out of clothes that other cleaners couldn't, have altered items impeccably, can keep track of my boyfriend's specific instructions NOT to starch his shirts, etc.), but the staff clearly like their jobs and are happy (which makes it all the more pleasant). This place was a customer service nightmare. I brought my coats in to add two buttons and Kathy convince me to have the other seven tighten. I also had the coats dry clean. I gave them a whole week to complete this work and when I came to pick up the coats I found out that the work was not complete and my coats weren't at the business. I asked where my coats were. I was told that my coats were sent to another business to be cleaned. I stated I didn't authorize another company to do work on my coats. I asked what the name of the company where my coats were sent. I was told it was private and that this information couldn't be given to me. I asked why was the work not already done by now? I was told that they have until 5pm to complete the work, but they already had my coats for seven days. The young Latina lady start speaking to her coworker in Spanish then came up with another answer. She made me feel like she was lying to cover the company's butt. This happen around 11am when I first went in to get my coats. I went back for the second time at 1:30pm because I thought my coats were probably there and they just had not been dry clean yet. I wanted to pay them for the alterations and get the coats clean somewhere else, but my coats really weren't at the business. I ask the young Latina lady to call Kathy so I could speak with her. She called but spoke to her in the back as I watch her and hung the phone up. She stated that Kathy was really busy and she couldn't talk even though she stay on the phone for ten or fifteen minutes. I could tell that she was not telling the truth. She restated that they had until 5pm to complete the work and get my coats back into the building. I called at 5pm before I went back to the business to find out if the coats were there. I was told that they were. When I got there it look like the buttons were still loose. I couldn't tell if the work was complete or not so I told the clerk I would see Kathy the next day. When I came in to ask Kathy about the shoddy work and why the bill was so high for such little work, she just start telling me how good her work was and that I should not complain. I also wanted to know why was my coats sent to another business to be cleaned. I got none of these answers because Kathy was busy talking over me as I tried asking these questions. When I grew tired of shouting back and forth with Kathy for 15 min, because she accused me of not wanting to pay. I just paid because I saw I wasn't going to get anywhere was her. Again, this was a complete nightmare and I advise everyone to steer clear of this place. read more

While they may provide typically good service, they are more expensive than other dry cleaners in the area and take longer to get the job done. However, I would go here anyway because they were friendly and did a good job (not that I bring damaged goods in so maybe they wouldn't be any better than anyone else in the area - I can't really say but I know I'll be going somewhere more affordable and that provides better customer service). I needed some buttons sewn onto a blazer and did not have the color I wanted. I didn't have a chance to go to a store to pick them up and asked the cleaners if they had them in stock. They did not, and they let me know when they go to the store, they will look for them (since they have a store they go to). I then gave them a little over a week (which is NOT standard and is extremely a large courtesy to only sew buttons on - she told me it literally takes a minute) find and sew on the buttons. I let them know that while they had more time to do it, I needed it on that date since it was for an event the day later. On the day I was to pick them up, my husband came in to get them while I was working late. Mind you this is over a week since I dropped it off and they have my phone number on file (you actually say it to get your order, so they use it regularly). They told him they couldn't find the buttons in the store, still didn't have any in that would work, and wanted to know what I would do i.e.... So I gave them over a week and they couldn't call me to let me know there was an issue. First MAJOR mistake in customer service here. Yeah, they might be good when it's basic dry cleaning (what place really isn't from my experience...), but when you have to ask them to do anything out of the ordinary, apparently they cannot handle it and there is not general customer service here. I ended up providing the buttons to them the day after and told them I needed it sewn by that afternoon - since at this point they had it and I wasn't going to go searching elsewhere as I had no time, whereas that would have been a lot easier over a week and a half ago. While she did sew them quickly, she ended up screwing up part of the order which I gave strict instructions on and confirmed them with someone on her staff prior to leaving the day earlier. When picking it up I had yet to tell her how I was disappointed with how things were handled. When I saw that there was a mistake, I wasn't going to just let it go. So I questioned her about it and asked her to please explain. She asked me why I was being so serious about something so small and then I said well this is a big deal since I don't understand why I was not called when that would have made the most sense. She began to ignore what I was saying, told me the amount to pay, took my card, and then told me where to sign the receipt - completely ignoring the issue. I know she had no excuse at this point, but this was absolutely absurd - at least try. As walking out I said to her, well I'm going to have to put this on Yelp if you don't at least try to explain, especially since I've been a customer to you for a year now, and she just continued to ignore me and helped other customers who came in at this time. In addition, in a previous experience, she was boxing my wedding dress. They told me they had to order the box and would call once it got in - note that they had my wedding dress in stock already at this time. I did not receive a call for a few weeks - when I was told it would take about a week. I then went out of town, again, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and came back another few weeks later. Still nothing, no message. NOTHING. So I called them to check in and they let me know it'd be in very soon - it then took another few weeks at this time to get it taken care. All in all - something took over a few months when it should have been done in couple of weeks - as I was told it would be - and I was not kept informed, yet again. These basic common courtesies of business were completely ignored and were absolutely ridiculous. Unfortunately her smiles and nice attitude will not be enough to keep me going back there -- I'll likely go to any of the places right across the street that take less time to get things done and are more affordable. read more

I've had terrible experiences with this place. Today was my last straw. I took a purse in to have the very ripped lining repaired. We discussed the item at length, so I could be sure that a "repair" would last. I picked it up, supposedly repaired, took it on vacation and, low and behold, they'd left a critical section completely ripped. When I went back in today, Kathy told me that she didn't know I'd wanted that part repaired (umm...because everyone only wants *part* of a rip repaired). After emphasizing that this was my fault and not hers, she said that she'd fix it - if I paid more. I walked out. I want nothing more to do with her. Other problems. They are way overpriced - walk half a block east on Huron and you'll pay a third the price. And the dates they give are often incorrect. They won't call you to let you know your item's late. You show up, but your clothes aren't ready. Want a great place that you won't mind driving across town for? Barry Regent Cleaners on broadway and wellington in Lakeview. Worth the drive - they can repair anything and do it with respect and a smile. Forget Kathy's. Walk half a block in any direction and you'll find another, better cleaners. read more

Kathy's has been an excellent dry cleaner for my dress shirts/sweaters and tailor for any new jeans/chinos I have purchased since moving to the River North neighborhood 18 months ago or so. I am very particular about how my clothing looks and fits and was fortunate enough to walk by Kathy's on my way home and gave them a shot. I have not been dissapointed. Marina and Lila who work the front desk are always smiling and are incredibly friendly even if I am walking in the door when they open at 7am. Thank you both for being so pleasant! read more
