Do NOT go here for your formal wear. They have now ruined two tuxedos by hot pressing the satin lapels, even though I specifically said not to do it the second time, as I know their presses run too hot and will leave marks in the satin. They previously ruined a suit too --it looks like hot pressed the lapel when it was wet. I use this place for basic mens button down shirts and pants, as it's a convenient location. I don't trust them with more. The buttons often get cracked as they don't provide much care to the pressing. But it's hard to find a dry cleaner who doesn't do that in Chicago. Most places (like this) send the stuff off-site and don't control this. I also go elsewhere for tailoring. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! Peter and his family are lovely people and I do really enjoy talking with them, but I will never go back here. To begin, the first time I went I had lost the ticket they gave me which someone else picked up, and ended up stealing my clothes. They came in and paid for my dry cleaning and I lost $2,000 worth of clothes. After offering very little to make it up to me, Peter (store owner) offered to dry clean my sweater for free, and when I went to go pick it up, he informed me he lost my cashmere sweater. In all fairness, the first incident was more of a fluke, but the lack of willingness to make it right, along with losing the one thing I had asked for as a consolation results in me never going back. read more

Now that we're emerging from the pandemic (kind of...), I figured I should finally dry clean my professional clothes. All these wrinkles and residual interview stress in the creases will not do! I took my blazer here to get dry cleaned, and a week later it came back so fresh and wonderfully crisp--without a wrinkle in sight. (I didn't have a timeline for when I needed it so I said I can pick up whenever. So I'm not sure what typical turnaround time is.) The staff was kind and cheery! Reasonably priced and good quality. So, admittedly my local cleaners is having a deal where if you review them on Yelp, you get $5 off. That being said, we've been using this little laundromat for over two years now and we have no complaints. So I thought I would drop a good word or two. We actually have a system in my apartment building where you can drop dirty clothes into a locker and pick them up dry-cleaned after a few days. We stopped using this system, because some of the clothes came back still stained. We have never had this issue with this place. Also, the little Korean lady that runs the place is very nice. She always asks what time would be a good time to pick up your clothes, and frequently is able to work around your schedule. read more

i've used them twice. First time to have a suede jacket cleaned. This was done nice but I also asked them to mend the pocket linings. They did not do it even though they marked to be done. I wasn't charged for it. Second time, I had an outfit hemmed, a dress cleaned and three sweaters. All three sweaters came back with the same odor of my perfume, the dress was steamed but still dingy, and the hem was wrong for the type of fabric. I paid $57 dollars for nothing. I do think they scamed me. Would not advise using them. read more

What's most paramount is that - you pay for what you get, and in this case, it's quality. There's an adage along the lines of the following: "You can learn a lot about a person from how they treat others." Well, the staff is always friendly, not only to me, but to others. Which always makes me smile whilst in line waiting to be helped. They seem to have a lot of regulars; everyone is treated like the best of kin. In addition to being a reliable dry-cleaning service, they also provide tailoring/alteration work. I've had a few pairs of slacks altered, and at the time of this post, I'm anticipating picking up a sport coat which I dropped off earlier (getting the sleeves lengthened). The turnaround time is usually pretty fast; (roughly 5 days or so), of course, depending on what the job is. If you work, live, or frequent the west loop area often, give them a try. Only came for alterations/shoe cleaning but was very impressed. I went to two other cleaners and they said they couldn't clean my sneakers and finally clean as a whistle said they could. Super reasonably pricing and great alterations. Got 6 pieces altered and my shoes cleaned for under $125. Everything came out perfectly. The woman who helped me was also the sweetest. I really love this little gem amongst all the dry clean options in busy West Loop. The ladies who run the store are always so pleasant that I feel like I want to ask them to adopt me. Their wall in the store is filled with holiday cards from their customers, and I guess I never would have thought to even send one to a dry cleaner before but they must have a really good relationship with their customers who love them enough to think of them on the holidays. I've been going to Clean As A Whistle Cleaners for 4 years and their work isn't just clean as a whistle but faster than the speed of light. The women who operate the location are sweet to all customers that they are fun to speak with about life and personal events. I came here after reading reviews of all the other cleaners nearby and being terrified. I had a large number of items / services, and I genuinely have no complaints and was happy with everything. I will be coming back here for future services, no doubt. I had two suede items cleaned, boots and a purse, and they came back looking fresh. This service was cheaper than I anticipated as well, about $20-25 per item. This took about 1.5 weeks just FYI, but they made sure to communicate this up front and make sure that was OK. I had three of my dress shirts altered; the mid-sections needed to be tapered. They did a great job and now I feel like I have 3 new shirts. These were $18 a pop which is considerably less than buying a new dress shirt. Money well spent. I had a dress cleaned, which was $9. I also had a minor stitching alteration, the sleeve portion of a shirt came apart from the shoulder, and they fixed that puppy up for $2. Finally, I had a wool sweater cleaned which I had previously tried to hand wash. Through my hand wash, the colors and fabric became a bit dull. They brightened back up after getting cleaned here! read more

It was hard to find a tailor to alter dresses during this time because of the post-COVID wedding boom and Clean As a Whistle was super responsive, reasonable priced, and ran by very nice Korean ladies. One needed to be dry cleaned because it smelled like smoke from a bonfire and the other needed shorter straps. The work done on both was top notch. Judging from the previous reviews, I think this place has changed owners - it's now run by a Korean couple and the lady's name is Christine. Service isn't particularly fast, but they are friendly enough and the location is convenient for me. I'm used to my dirt cheap Texas cost of living though, so $12 (or $13?) to hem a pair of dress pants seems a bit steep to me. Dry cleaning is about $11 a suit, which is very reasonable. read more

I went to this cleaners yesterday. The woman was rude to me. My husband has been going there for several years. She is always nice to him and willing to do complicated last minute jobs. I went in for the first time to drop off a cashmere and alpaca winter long coat -- I thought, no problem. It had been in the back of the closet and had spider webs on it, perhaps a few moth holes. She called her husband over; they spoke about it in Chinese -- I've taken Chinese classes for two years. Suffice to say that which they were saying was not nice, nor was it professional. After making me wait for ten minutes, she refuses to clean it and tells me to get out because my clothes have bugs. She does this in front of two other customers. I told my husband; he was shocked. He said she is so nice to him. I should mention that my husband is big blonde, Nordic type; I am African American. What they were saying about my coat had less to do with "bugs" and more to do with that fact that I am black and they think blacks are dirty. I have never been treated with such disdain. I took my coat and three pairs of Uggs to a nearby cleaners; no problem. We will never frequent this cleaners. People who speak languages other than English in front of their predominantly English-speaking customers should be careful -- English-speaking Americans learn other languages, too, even black people. read more

I've lived in the Loop for 4 years now and have never found the perfect dry cleaner until this past weekend. I had a grease stain on one of my favorite dresses, which was satin/jersey knit dress, and took it to one of those one-price dry cleanerts. I told them about the stain and they said they would try and take care of it. Well, when I picked it up, the stain was still on there with a note stating "That's all that could be done without ruining the dress". I thought that there was no hope for this dress. That was 5 months ago. I had to attend a wedding last weekend and wanted to wear that dress so I thought I should give a real dry cleaners a try. I live in the West Loop so I hunted around for a place. I do have a dry cleaners in my building but they did not do a good job of cleaning my husband's blazer and overcharged me for a terrible job. I ended up giving Clean as a Whistle a shot due to the good reviews - even though the reviews were kinda old at the time and there were only 3 reviews. I didn't think the stain would come out of the dress since it's been 5 months but Grace did a superb job and it was fast service as well! I couldn't even tell where that stubborn grease stain was. Although I think she may have been pricey - it was well worth it cuz my dress was back in mint condition and service was superb! Their hours are convenient and the owner is very nice. I went here b/c of all the wonderful ratings - and will never go back. I brought them a never-worn dress to have it altered. I am completely obsessed with this dress - got it to wear to weddings and it is really hard for me to find dresses that look good on me. So I take it to be altered and really they just need to alter the strap. Okay fine. I go back to pick it up and when I get home notice a pen mark on the lower half of the dress. Why would there be a pen mark on the lower half of the dress when they were altering the top half? I brought the dress to my normal cleaners (love them but they did one alteration I was so-so about so I thought I would try someplace new). Well they informed me the pen mark probably won't come out. So the dress is still wearable and you can't REALLY see the pen mark because it is in one of the folds and at first glance even might look like part of the dress - but I find this unacceptable and refuse to return. It's not worth the $12 I paid for the adjustment and it's not like they can replace the dress b/c I bought it in May and the Limited no longer has it. read more

I was given a week for the expected timeframe for the job to be done but called two days early and was pleasantly surprised when my pants were ready for pick up. It is with mixed emotions that I write this review. From 2011 through 2013 I lived next door to this business and I thought they were the best dry cleaners I've used. Grace and her husband provided excellent service. Upon moving to Streeterville in 2013, I still drove back to the West Loop to use them. That's how much I liked them. About a year ago was when the problems started. First, clothes started coming back with really bad chemical odors, like they were cleaned in dirty solution. Then Grace has been absent for some time. I heard rumors of health problems and I hope that isn't true. Since she has been gone, the quality of service has gone downhill significantly. Now, when you bring in clothes for "same day service" you get bitched out, even though it's a service that they advertise. They've also screwed up basic alterations like hemming a pair of pants. I've moved back to the West Loop and will be finding a new cleaner. read more

Grace is a miracle worker. She's been my go-to tailor and dry cleaner for the past 3+ years. She can be a bit expensive, but she always does a great job. Recently, I tested her super powers on my favorite white silk dress. I managed to get a massive black ink stain on the front and thought it was a goner.
