Awesome prices, awesome food, awesome service! A gem in the center of Mechanics Falls. It's a small place, but friendly as can be. Can't wait to go back!

Placemats have hours and a little word game

This hidden gem is the place to walk across on a Thursday morning while I was looking for a place to eat in this new town. Walked by saw this liter diner and I had to go in. Very small interior but I saw they had a lot of outdoor seating with umbrellas. Was seated pretty quickly; specials and toast for the day was poster on a whiteboard. They were also doing a raffle for one of their neighbors who lost everything in a home invasion. Ended up ordering the eggs Benedict that came with a choice of hash browns, home fries, or beans and then I switched out the bacon for sausage instead. SO GOOD! I thought everything was great - especially for the price! My boyfriend got the waffles and sausage and said it was "just what he was looking for." 2 coffees, eggs Benedict, side of toast, waffles + sausage all for $19?? What a steal! Will definitely be coming back to try out the rest of their menu and dig through their specials!

The pancakes were enjoyed by all.

I've had breakfast at a lot of places in this region, and Kathy's is hands down the best. The food is great, the menu is full, the bread is homemade, and it's full of charm. Nothing fancy going on here--it's just a small-town diner done very well. We'll be back often.

The food was what I was expecting and hoping for....rich, indulgent food, that met my savory and sweet cravings. We were greeted immediately upon walking through the door and were instructed to sit any where we wanted. We had plenty to choose from around 10:30am on Saturday, even on a holiday weekend. All of the open tables, were clean and ready for new patrons. The restaurant was about half full and appeared to be mostly regulars, as they were chatting with the staff and each other. I love local places that know the locals that well. Our drink orders were taken within a minute of sitting. The hot chocolate were rich and creamy even without whipped cream. I opted not to have it added. I ordered a blueberry muffin as my "appetizer". They offer it as is, or grilled. I love it grilled and it was good and not too filling. For our meals we ordered a table pancake (meaning, a pancake for sharing). It was fluffy and perfectly good - nice and hot. They have "syrup" and it reminded me of being a kid and having Log Cabin syrup. I didn't ask, but it didn't taste like pure maple syrup. I ordered the corned beef hash skillet with a grilled english muffin. It was perfectly cooked and it was delicious. It tasted like canned corned beef hash and I was not mad about it. I truly wanted comfort food and this hit. My friend had the S.O.S. (gravy with beef and pork) AKA Sh*t on a Shingle. It looked soooo good and she stated the biscuit and gravy and meat were good. We took our leftovers home, which will tell you, the portions were decent, the food was delicious and no delicious food would be left behind. I recommend this restaurant if you are interested in diner food, with quick friendly service and plenty of space. I definitely want to come back and get the S.O.S.

This iconic little diner is set up inside a vintage trailer/box car style building right in the heart of downtown Biddeford. Seating is limited to about a dozen people at a time, so be prepared to wait -- but trust me, it's worth it. After my fiancée watched an episode of Somebody Feed Phil featuring the diner, we were on a mission to try their famous chicken sandwich. The sandwich absolutely lived up to the hype! It's huge, packed with flavor, and served with a fresh lettuce wedge salad on the side. The chicken had the perfect crispy exterior while staying juicy and delicious inside. We could only eat half and happily brought the rest home. Luckily, it was a beautiful Maine day and we didn't have to wait long for a seat. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and added to the fantastic overall vibe of the diner. One thing to know before you go -- the diner is cash only, but there's an ATM conveniently located right outside. If you love hidden gems, amazing comfort food, and unique local dining experiences, Palace Diner is definitely a must-visit spot in southern Maine. Highly recommended and absolutely worth the trip back!

I cannot even remember what I got but I remember thinking it was a waste of $. As for the ambiance-it's a fiber with a counter & stools (no tables), it was uncomfortable & freezing inside. Decided to give them a try for lunch, I have read so much about how amazing their fried chicken sandwich is, so I entered that online and see the sandwich is $22...to get fries with that it is another $8.50...ok, I think it's my birthday & my husband and I can split it all so that's only about $15 a piece. Go to put order in and there is an AUTOMATIC 22% gratuity added that cannot be changed or removed. Let me get this straight-ya'll are charging $30.50 for a chicken sandwich and fries (nothing special-no antibiotic free range chicken, probably saline packed chicken from China ‍) AND you think it's ok to tack on 22% tip for LUNCH TAKE OUT???? Sooooo that's $40.56 for a chicken sandwich and fries, tax + tip. ‍ Yeah, no. I would not eat here if they were the last restaurant on earth. I love supporting local, but how greedy can you be?

Our first time going to brunch at The Blue Pig was a great experience…read more I assumed they would have a wait at noon on a Sunday. I called ahead to see if they would put us on the wait list over the phone. They would not. We arrived, and it was a cold day, and luckily they have space inside, with some benches and chairs, to sit while you wait. There is no host taking names. It is seat yourself in the honor system...meaning...you must pay attention to what party arrived before you, and then watch for open tables or bar stools, and seat yourself at the appropriate time without cutting other parties who were there before yours. Since this is a bit uncommon, I can see how this might cause some anxiety for people...I was thinking...will others cut in front of my party? We were a party if 3 and 3 bar stools opened up so we decide to sit at the bar. The whole restaurant definitely has a "bar/tavern" kind of ambiance to it. It does not feel like a "diner". It has a great vibe...very relaxed, neighborhood kind of a feel. The menu includes both breakfast items and lunch items...which was perfect for our party. The menu has several classic southern dishes like country fried steak with sausage gravy, chicken and pork waffles with a choice of maple syrups, and biscuits and gravy. The menu also has traditional breakfast items like egg sandwiches, and other such items. The menu includes classic brunch cocktails, a selection of beers, and several mocktails. I tried the chicken and waffles with the hot maple syrup. It was perfect. The fried chicken was crisp and in smaller size pieces which I liked. The waffles were crisp on the outside and soft on the insides, and the best part was the syrup...it was spicy and sweet and perfect! My friend tried the country fried steak with sausage gravy and biscuits. It was delicious! It was classic in every way...white gravy, but tender steak, nice biscuits. My other friend tried the steak tip sandwich. The blue pig sauce on it was delicious (very savory), and the peppers and onions were chopped into small pieces...but the steak tips were not cut up...which made it difficult to bite through the steak tips. I would have cut up the steak tips and put them back into the sandwich...but it wasn't my sandwich. The sandwich came with spiced curly fries. The fries were VERY good. The service was friendly and fast. We will definitely go back.

They were not anything compared to the Trader Joe's blueberry muffins in terms of softness and moisture...Costco blueberry muffins are a little bit less dry than these. - the grilled bit of the muffin was a bit of a letdown. It is just literally cut in half and put on top of a grill for maybe a few minutes for the char lines and that's it. Nothing else done to it - they made it sound like it had something else so I'm pretty disappointed in that one. - BUT the chocolate pancake was DELICIOUS. It's like Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix on a pan, in the shape of a pancake, and chocolate frosting/fudge/ganache? On top, with white icing to make the squiggle. Would buy over the muffin tbh. - the chili was swimming with cheese, so if you like that it's for you. My bf couldn't eat his because it was a thick glob of melted cheese every time he lifted his fork. BUT I myself adore cheese so I would've been happy with that.
