I remember when this location in Red Mill was a Buffalo Wild Wings and I am impressed with how they have converted it into a clean, spacious and open swim-school. You check in immediately to the right at one of two desks as soon as you walk in. There are seats all around a glass-encased large swimming pool that is full of instructors and small classes of various levels (1-8 I believe). Our daughter is 2-years old and was in level 2 where a parent is in the pool with them helping them through the motions which are mostly related to getting them comfortable with getting submerged and not inhaling water into their mouths/noses. My little gal did well but was fussy (first time) for the 30-minute class. The instructor was young but competent and gave feedback at the end. There is a open shower area to rinse off at the back of the pool and a large locker room area to change (with changing tables in all for young babies who have to wear two swim diapers). There are men's and women's bathrooms and private showers if you want to bring things and take a full shower after. They have free coffee/tea while you sit and watch. I like that the pool is glass enclosed so one parent can get in the pool and another can watch from the chairs all around. They also sell some items you may need like googles, etc. We forgot a towel (so much stuff to bring) and my husband had to run to Walmart to get one (which is in the same strip mall) - they said usually they do have some for sale. Prices are pretty fair - with lessons being about $40 each and it gets a bit lower if you are doing multiple a week (you do it monthly). You can sign up on their online portal once you have an account and it's easy to use but I have had some issue with classes saying they're full when they aren't.... Plenty of parking and in an easy shopping area with loads nearby if you need to get errands done. All in all - hoping to get my gal comfortable with swimming here. The two littles in her class with her were doing wonderful and their parents said it was all due to those classes, so I'm very excited!

I was doing a sets routine and had my set up all ready and was in the middle of the second exercise when someone came over and started moving my stuff. I let them know I was utilizing that equipment and their respond was that I could move to the other side. Well, I could but so could she, and I already had weights, plates and foams set up in that spot for a particular exercise. It made me feel very uncomfortable and she refused to leave my stuff (including phone, and water bottle) versus going to the other side when no one was there. They need more space so people are not on top of each other. Get rid of the 10 extra treadmills no one uses and create a corner for stretching or body weight exercises (burpees, etc). If this location wasn't on my route, I'd drive over to Blocker.

I cannot believe the outside pool was not open at 10 am on July 4th. my husband and I were laying on our towel reading, and was told we had to leave. The place is run by teenagers that have no clue, you can never talk with a manager. I cannot wait to leave the YMCA - I have already been at another place for 3 years. my husband use the Y one a week. we go to the pool twice a year. Totally ridiculous, probably did not want to pay OT. The rules are all geared for insurance. I have had it.

You must be an ODU student,, staff, or authorized personnel to utilize the pool. The pool is a 25…read moreyard pool with 2 one meters and one 3 meter diving board. The pool is very well maintained and deceiving. It was built in the early-mid 60's, but sports an upgraded score board for swim meets.. There is a balcony area for spectators that has bench seating. The balcony is used for any swim meets in the facility and is part of the old area. Locker rooms are available which begins the new section of the building along with the Rec Center. Parking is reserved in the outside lots, however meter parking is also available. The chlorine utilized in the pool is UV, or ultraviolet which is a cleaner type of material than regular chlorine used in most public pools. You will not have the heavy smell of traditional chlorinated pools. During the ODU swim season it is reserved early AM (unsure when they conclude) and weekdays 3-5 PM. Tidewater Aquatic Club (TAC) has the pool reserved on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5-8 PM. Parking is reserved in the outside lots, however meter parking is also available. I will add photos of the pool another time, I was not allowed to take photo's while TAC had swimmers in the pool. In the Summer the pool is utilized for ODU Swim camps and Big Blue Camps. It has been long speculated that a new pool will be built on campus, at this point there is no time table. However, the area where a new pool would be built is across the street from the current facility most likely. Cross you fingers at some time in the next 5 years ODU will be able to sport a brand new aquatics facility.

Not only are they learning strong karate skills, but their confidence, focus, and discipline have improved so much. One of the biggest differences we've noticed is in school. The lessons they've learned in class about respect, listening carefully, and staying focused have really carried over into the classroom. Their teacher has even commented on how much they're excelling and how much more confident and attentive they've become. It's amazing to see how the skills from karate translate into everyday life. Master C is patient, encouraging, and truly wonderful positive role model to these young kids!!! All the instructors keep the classes fun and engaging while still teaching structure and responsibility. My child looks forward to every class and is always excited to show and tell master c the good work he's done outside of the studio! The studio is clean, safe, welcoming, and has such a positive, supportive atmosphere. It really feels like a community. We couldn't be happier with our experience thus far and highly recommend this studio to any parents looking to give their child a strong foundation both on and off the mat!

A premature review ... but so far so good…read more My first visit was during a parents night out. My daughter and a few of her friends participated in this weekly event. For the most part they enjoyed themselves, but suggested more flip time. My second visit was for a birthday party on a Saturday afternoon. The birthday party was cool... there was one attendant for the party and the party consisted of at least 12 children. The party attendant pretty much stayed on schedule the entire time. I guess the kids were having a good time, but it seemed to robotic of a party IMO. A birthday party perk...the birthday child draws a name and the child selected wins one free month of classes courtesy of the center. At this particular party, the parent filled out a card and the cards we placed in front of the birthday child and my child card was chosen!! Talk about excited! I cannot wait to use this reward and therefore, I will give a more detailed review of the center. But as of now, so far so good. I did witness a few practices going on during the birthday party and the girls seemed super focused. The center is huge and it includes upstairs and downstairs. There is a small shopping area as well. The air fresh, but the gym did smell a bit like feet... As of now, I would recommend you check this place out. It's located in the industrial area of Chesapeake (Greenbrier area) where other warehouse style buildings are located. Parking is limited. And the center is minutes from Greenbrier Mall and other shopping. Have fun and enjoy life :)
