This five-star review for Katona Chiropractic is 30 years overdue. When I was in my early 40's, I tweaked my neck doing some heavy lifting and I couldn't turn my head because of the pain and stiffness. This condition continued over several weeks, so instead of taking pills, I decided to see a chiropractor for the first time. I saw three chiropractors without satisfaction, before I was treated by Dr. Katona, who fixed me up after two weeks. But what really convinced me to continue with Dr. Katona was that he also found and treated a persistent, low-level sore spot that I had in my middle back without my ever mentioning it. Since then, Dr. Katona has treated me over the years for physical injuries, the usual "overdoing it" in life, and the "tune up" adjustments every two months that keep me straight and limber as I age. I should mention that my wife is also a patient of Dr. Katona who was successfully treated for her acid-reflux due to a hiatal hernia. My wife was treated by medical doctors over a period of three years, who mostly prescribed antacids for her worsening condition. She learned that chiropractic care might be able to help her, so she went to Dr. Katona who after a few adjustments, "cured" her. I don't know if it will be the same for everyone with acid-reflux, but I do not exaggerate when I say it was a miracle treatment for my wife. In June I suffered a miserable sciatica condition searing pain from hip down below my knee I I tried several modalities including acupuncture and massage but in the end it was Dr. Katona who was able to get my sciatica under control he carefully studied my x-ray and also my MRI which revealed four bulging discs and figured out what to do it took about eight appointments to make it all happen and after the first one I was in a lot of pain and he had me come in the next day to do more work he's very concerned about your condition and very responsive I can't give enough stars to him and the wonderful people in his office if you're having back pain you might want to consider Dr. katona read more

I saw Dr. Katona years ago and truly enjoyed fun conversation as well as his wonderful care. I returned several months ago after a severe neck injury. He tried to adjust my neck but it was not budging, no big surprise as it was pretty locked up. I had X-rays done and asked to have him look at them but for some reason he had not received them yet. He promised to call me the minute he received them but never called. I called the office at least 4 more times and each time I was promised a call back but it never happened. I was completely ghosted and let down by someone I had trusted and considered a friend. I had to give up on him, and basically wasted the money for an office visit I couldn't afford to begin with. In addition to being left in agonizing pain for WEEKS! No thanks Rob, you let me down. Never going back. Thanks for the call, of course I knew I would probably hear back after this review. You said in your voicemail that you never received the x-rays however when I spoke to somebody at your office I was told that you had. This was after you told me you were personally going to call and get them sent to you and then you would call me the second you had them in your hands. So apparently you have a pretty severe communication breakdown. I have been let down by nearly every professional come in contact with in regards to my neck. Thanks to you and the orthopedic clinic I went to I missed out on nearly 2 months of physical therapy. If anyone can testify to the greatness of Dr. Katona it is I. Just a normal guy who had a BAD pain in the neck due to a car accident. My back was stiff for years and I'm only 38. I went through 4-5 years of a terrible handicap. Always wondering how bad my upper back and neck was going to hurt that day. Took the joy out of my life almost and I was ready for Surgery. I was referred to Dr. Katona by one of my customers who is extremely meticulous so I knew there was a promising chance. I went to Dr. Katona after feeling some insane pains and aches that no amount of massages would cure. He came highly recommended and I must say that I appreciated his patience. He explained everything to me and explained my x-rays. He did my first adjustment and boy could I feel that he had done some work. I have a long way to go but at least I know it's with someone who is competent. I will keep you all posted with my progress. I think one cannot be surprised with the extra costs when going in for an initial visit. Originally I had thought Katona Chiropractic was a reliable, trusted, and honest group of individuals who genuinely want to help patients get better from their long term pain. Unfortunately that is not the case. Before the pandemic had happened, I had went with my mom to her treatments to get treatments from the previous doctor that had practice in the clinic. We are very disappointed about the encounter we had with the clinic. We were not only notified last about our doctor leaving due to the pandemic, but we were also fooled about the cost of how much each treatment will be. When we began visiting the clinic, whomever the receptionist that we had spoke to did not clarify about how the pricing will be. Therefore, we had paid the same amount two times without any knowledge of how the discount is applied to the payment. And it is not until we had called recently about her account to refund the payment, we wouldn't had known that the discount is applied at the very end of the treatments. (each treatment is 15 times) I hope changes will be made for future patients that plans to continue or wants to start treatments with them. read more

Up-date 3/10/2017 I still have continual pain in my neck area and excessive pain at my left shoulder. Also continual nerve pain down my left arm to my fingers and constant itching feeling at my wrist and hand all caused by a neck adjustment by this chiropractor years ago. I saw Dr. Katona for some minor issues. I went for multiple visits, regrettably. Dr. Katona actually caused me injury with his aggressive adjustment of my sacrum. I had this confirmed by seeing an orthopedist and another Gonstead chiropractor. I continue to have pain, that I didn't have before I saw Dr. Katona. Dr. Katona, a miracle worker! I could barley function after my lower back froze up. He was realistic, knowing I still had to hold my newborn he taught me how to adjust how I held her... I was in pain for 4 days prior to seeing him; I was seeing other acupuncturists and self medicating. I saw him, and things weren't healed right away, but he was honest. Disappointed and frustrated. I called around shopping chiropractors off of yelp. Decided to go with this guy after he was unexpectedly willing to take 2 or 3 minutes with me over the phone. I was told it would be a free consultation and if I wanted adjusted it would be $49. I asked if there was anyway I could get an adjustment the same evening and awesome blossom they said yes. So I dart over and walk in to a half sheet with a ton of pricing on it. I get a bit nervous and ask the front desk girl about my bill for today and that it will only be $49, she confirmed. I told her I saw all those prices and started to get scared but she assured me not to worry, that they weren't for me. I go in the exam room, chiropractor comes in, has a quick chat, tests some reflexes and what not, hands me a gown(doesn't tell me how far down to undress tho, I had to ask the receptionist), then goes to service another patient. The chiropractor is in and out many times but it's no problem, I am understanding as I know I am being seen spur of the moment, probably squeezed in. I am appreciative of this so I patiently and happily comply. After some hand squeeze test, some heat detector test he says he's running up my spine, and a flexibility test, he drops the x-ray bomb on me. So now I'm in the midst of a high pressure sale on top of my f'd up back issues. I guess it's like a "sell em dreams of painlessness, strip em down to their skivies, then bleed em dry" kind of a thing. I ask if we can just pass on the x rays for now as I didn't come in expecting that to be dropped on me, and can we just do the adjustment. Says he can't give me treatment if I don't buy an x-ray. He grabs what he claims are "a random persons x rays" and put them on the screen. I immediately notice the huge boobs, then I notice the misaligned spine. Coincidentally, it is the same x rays in one of the pics he posted on yelp. I can tell he runs this spiel with everyone...im just waiting for him to bust out 3 cups and a ball and ask me if I wanna bet which cup it's under. I digress. I saw the price list, x rays are hundreds of dollars. He says he will discount it for me to $79. I come in expecting to pay $49 and now I'm supposed to pay almost 3 times that?! ($79+$49) No one made mention of this before hand and it was very clearly understood I was coming to get adjusted. Never was there mention that I couldn't get adjusted unless I forked out for x rays too. As I mentioned earlier, he's in and out of the room, so after I don't readily agree he slips out to tend to another. Fine by me. I get dressed and leave. I tell the receptionist I'll have to come back another day; I'm trying to be gracious as there are people in the lobby. She asks me if I want to reschedule right then, as i literally have one foot out the door...i awkwardly decline. Everybody sees. You could cut the awkward with a knife. Lovely. My back is no better and everywhere else is closing at this point, what a waste. Incidentally, while I was calling around I found a place in San Ramon that does consultation, exam, x rays, report of x rays, and first adjustment for $50 total. I will give them a try. There's something to be said for upfront businesses. I gave 2 stars for the positive things, couldn't give 3 because that's an average rating and seeing as how not only did I not get any actual adjustments but I had a high pressure sales bomb dropped on me, I wouldn't exactly call that average service or experience. read more

Dr. Katona treated me in 2012 when I was in crisis and could barely walk or breathe from lower back pain. I was in so much fear of the additional pain I would experience due to the pending adjustment but I had no choice as I had waited too long. What got me through it was knowing he mentored my former chiropractor who was excellent, so I trusted I was in even better hands. Dr. Katona did not disappoint. Yes, the adjustment was difficult, and it did dissipate some of the pain and the next couple of treatments enabled me to return to work. My son HAD flat-feet. I took him to doctors and specialists. They all said there is no cure for it, recommended me to buy orthopedic shoes, and hoped for the best. I was so worried about the problem. I know my son would start to have pain as he gets older and heavier. He couldn't do long walks, play basketball, or soccer. i never even thought to go to a chiro before i met my fiance. i always saw the ads or the different offices scattered around towns i trek through but just wrote them off. now.. i cannot live without Dr katona. Dr. Katona is a wonderful man and doctor. There's no doubt he loves what he does. His touch is gentle and he knows what he's doing- he can always tell where it hurts- sometimes just by the way you walk in the door! Even when it doesn't hurt, however, he's made adjustments to every member of my family that have yielded nearly immediate results. He's caring, and friendly- he personally signs Christmas and birthday cards to his patients! The entire staff is actually quite friendly, and they work with you if you don't have insurance- or decent insurance with a low enough deductible to warrant claiming it. He even works around work schedules, open early some days and late in some evenings, with occasional Saturdays, and annual days with free adjustments. Having just moved to Castro Valley I hadn't found a new chiropractor at the time my back went completely out after Thanksgiving. I did a little research and found Dr. Katona very close to where we live- his office was so easy to get through to and they had me come in immediately when I told them i could barely walk. They are incredibly flexible in setting appointments for me and always have time to fit me in. Dr. Katona helped to get me mobile and has given me relief from some previous conditions that I had been living with all year.
