I needed brakes bad but not only have I only been living in Texas for 5 months, I've also never taken my car to get work done (usually my parents handle it for me). So needless to say I was clueless about what auto shop to use. After reading all the great reviews on Yelp I decided to go to Katy Auto Care. I was beyond pleased! Gil and his staff were great. Everyone was extremely nice, genuine, and helpful which is hard to come across these days at auto shops. They talked to my bf and I, let us know what was going on with my car, made sure we understood, gave me a quote, and got right to work on my vehicle. Showed up due to AC problem and turned away from the door. No one could take even 10 minutes to analyze a problem. Was told I would have to leave the vehicle and possibly leave it for a couple of days??? No one even looked at the car! Child running the front doesn't have a clue about customer service. Came here for an alignment which turned out to be a balance issue. Gil was awesome enough to drive my car around the block and recommended that I take advantage of my tire manufacturer's warranty and get it balanced. Didnt charge me a dime. Super honest! read more

After all, I had already agreed to the original estimate and would never have known. I revoke my review. While the people seem nice and gave me a little discount for paying cash. My car, less than 1 month later, has all the same symptoms. I already tried to bring it back immediately to say, something is still wrong, and was told I'd need to spend more money to now fix my a/c, which magically ( due to a small leak according to the mechanic) became scalding hot air. Less than 2 weeks later, I noticed the coolant resovoir empty again. I thought, maybe he didn't fill it all the way, (despite being charged for it), and bought my own to fill it up... Now, a week and a half later or so, the a/c went burning hott again and the coolant warning light went off. Guess what? No more coolant in the resovoir, so the car shuts the a/c off automatically. I know as a silly little ole girl I don't know nothin about fixin cars and all... But again, the same exact issues I brought it in with and $600 later... My car is doing the same things... Will I bring it back to find out? Why? So I can be talked to like a moron, only to have my car still be messed up? Nah. Just forget it. Save yourself the waste of time and money too. read more

Watch out for scams !! I need an alignment and I noticed that they have a "special" on their website for 4-wheel for $90 so I put my car in. I told him to call me before doing any work on it. Next day, he called me back and said that my SUV has damaged struts and need to get them fixed before doing the alignment. He quoted me around $620 for the struts. Fair enough, but I have to check with my insurance because I figured it was due to a fender-bender I had the previous month. Called them back and said that I can't get it fixed right now until the insurance come out for assessment before I get it fixed. As soon as I said that, the guy immediately said that he STILL has to charge me the full $90 alignment work. WHAT WORK ?? I asked him, you haven't done a darn thing why are you charging me $90 ? What is the point of asking for authorization if you're going to charge $90 for work you HAVE NOT done ? The guy immediately went on a rant about how "I got to pay my guys", "you are not going to get service done for free", blah, blah, blah ... I told him at which point did I asked you for free work ? So if you inspect my car, then I expected a fair price for it, but HECK NO I will pay FULL price for something you haven't done !! After some back and forth, the guy finally said it took them 30 minutes to inspect the car, so it will be $45. I got tired of his BS so I agreed and paid the guy and get my car out of there. I took my car to another mechanic that my brother used, and got the struts replaced for $450 - using the same parts. IMHO, this is a bait-and-switch/scams shop with dishonest people that you can't trust. read more

The owner is top notch who took the time to get to know me and understand my vehicle issues. His price to repair was significantly lower than several other shops in the area. I recently took my 2006 Suburban to a nearby "reputable" dealership for an engine diagnostic (at $125 cost) and they told me I needed a new engine at the cost of about $8000. I will not name this dealership but they are located down on the West Side of Katy Auto Care. Thank the Lord that an old friend of mine suggested that I get a 2nd opinion from Gil Harris at Katy Auto Care. He did the standard computer diagnostics first and he then did an old-school real mechanical test on my engine including driving it hard on the road. Bottom line--Gil said there is no way that I need to replace this engine. He further fixed some other minor issues at little cost. Gil and Katy Auto Care are absolutely first class in every way and they have made a customer for life out of me. I HIGHLY recommend you try Katy Auto Care the next time you need repairs. Awful service. Charged me twice for an alignment because it needed a shim plus the cost of shim. BEWARE of this place. They overcharge and do not honor coupons from their website. They have not heard the last from me. Very disappointed of their horrible customer service and would not recommend to ANYONE. They might seem cheaper at first, but are not in the end. Very upset with this automotive shop. Bought in the vehicle at 9 am owner seemed nice, front service guy was nice. Wasn't told how long so i called at 11. Told me my car was next in line, stopped by the shop at 2:30 to see what was going on. Turns out they only looked at the a/c and not the main reason. So i spoke to Sunny the mechanic looking at my vehicle. All he had to say was my freon was out and i asked about the rattle noise when the vehicle is turned on(main reason why i came in) and all he had to say was yea i heard that this morning. Then continued to ask me if i wanted to fill it with freon. So i said no i could do that myself and i asked again about the main reason why i came in, he said he would have to take the motor out and to me that seems like he was lazy and didn't want to fully check what i came into the shop for. I told Sunny how i looked up the info on the issue i think it is and i said i could show him some of the information i found and he just replied with we have internet... i would hope you guys do. It really seemed like he didn't want to diagnostic my vehicle. So i was upset and wanted to speak to the owner, i asked the lady in the front and she said he was about to leave and tried calling him, he didn't answer. So then she walked to the back to grab him before he left, so then the owner and Sunny walk in. And we are talking about how i am upset that i waited 5 hours for them just to tell me something i already knew. As i was talking to the owner he seemed in a rush just because i caught him before he left. The owner was very rude and did not know how to handle the situation he kept asking me what was wrong and i told him. So then he comes back with is that all? He kept saying i was repeating my self even though he kept asking me what was wrong. He even said it was his fault for not telling me how long it would be. So after our conversation going no where he just fires back with take your car to firestone. And was in a rush to find the car key so shove me out the door. Avoid this place if looking to fix a major issue with your vehicle. read more

The owner, Gil, talked me through what needed to be done on the phone before doing anything, and they even gave me a discount for a coupon that I didn't have just because they knew I was new in town. I love this place. I have been coming here for years a long with all of my family and a few friends. Everyone loves its and we always get the fastest and best service there is to offer. The owner Gil is an amazing man and very invested in his job. He communicates with the customers very well, appropriately, and always comes through with the most honest and best work he can. I Recently moved this past year out to Alief but I still drive back here and will continue to come back here as long as I live in the Houston area. Its definitely worth the drive.
