Jacksonville Humane Society - Kitten adoption

Scheduling is generally easy, though weekend clinics can get busy. We appreciate the service the Humane Society provides to our community.

We originally fostered two kittens and brought them in for adoption. While we were there, we were asked to foster two additional kittens, Ladybug and Grasshopper. Ladybug arrived with what appeared to be an untreated eye infection and was covered in fleas. We later learned neither kitten had been given flea treatment. Grasshopper also had fleas but otherwise seemed healthy. After about a week, Ladybug had started gaining strength and eating on her own. When we brought her in, we had finally received an email from Jax Humane Society, but by the time we got there, she had already passed away. Two days later, Grasshopper suddenly became lethargic, stopped eating and meowing, developed severe diarrhea, and could barely move. We took him to Jax Humane Society and expressed concern that he may have contracted the same illness as his sister, but our concerns were dismissed as dehydration. Within hours of bringing him home, his condition rapidly worsened, and he passed away after the clinic had already closed. This experience was heartbreaking. In our case, we felt our concerns were not taken seriously, and there was no emergency phone number to reach anyone after hours--only email communication. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend fostering or adopting through Jax Humane Society. No family should have to go through the trauma that we experienced.

We were recommend Unleash Fido by several people. We scheduled an hour long consultation with Travis who ended up giving us 90 minutes of his time to learn about Lily and discuss their program. Lily had several issues, such as pulling on the leash, lunging at cars, barking at people + other dogs and going absolutely crazy when Amazon/UPS was delivering a package. Ultimately, we booked Lily into their month-long Obedience Training Camp. After receiving weekly report cards that contained photos, videos and a brief update on how the last week was, we were finally ready to pick-up Lily. Our first time picking her up was also our first training with her. We worked on establishing place, having her heel while walking, and working on other things around distractions. Within the first 24 hours back at home, our investment in this training payed dividends. She's obedient on walks, doesn't mind others passing by, comes to us on call, goes to place when told and so much more. We'd highly recommend anyone who's dealing with behavior and/or obedience issues to look into Unleash Fido! It was so embarrassing to have an unruly dog, and this was a true investment that we are so happy we made.

She would greet everyone who came to my place with a lovely leap to their face while they were sitting on the couch. She would dig on my couch and did not listen well. Now she is a brand-new puppy. She does not go on my couch or jump on anyone. She seems more confident in herself and calm. Macayla did an amazing job with her, and I am beyond grateful! I enrolled Ellie in their 4/5 weeks training. I got a report card and pictures or videos every Wednesday. I always looked forward to Wednesdays! After Ellie completed her training, we had to go back for our follow up trainings with Macayla. Ellie was beyond excited every time we went back. I have already recommended Unleash Fido to multiple friends. Highly recommend Unleash Fido!

As someone who heavily relies on reviews to make informed choices, I am writing this to provide a…read morefair and factual accounting of my experience with 9 to 5 Pets. We have officially terminated our relationship with this company following repeated incidents of unfulfilled instructions and safety violations. The owner, Jennifer, called to address these final issues. Her exact response was, "I'm sorry we cannot meet your level of service." To be clear, the "level of service" we expected was simply that our cats' litter box be cleaned, our basic safety instructions be followed, and unauthorized guests not be brought into our home. This is not an extreme expectation; it is the baseline requirement of professional pet care. Our issues began during a prior booking when a sitter routinely brought her young child into our home without our prior knowledge or consent. Our home is not childproofed, making this a significant liability and a violation of privacy. I brought this directly to Jennifer, expecting no future protocol violations. Unfortunately, our most recent trip proved that oversight remains a systemic issue. We returned home at 11:00 AM immediately following a scheduled final morning visit to find the following conditions: Neglected Sanitation: The litter box was entirely full with no fresh litter added. It had been neglected long enough that our two cats resorted to urinating and defecating on the floor outside the box. Safety Protocol Ignored: We explicitly instructed that the cats could enjoy the lanai during visits, but must be brought inside with the lanai door securely shut upon departure. Leaving this open during a Florida summer is a severe heat hazard. 9 to 5 Pets completely ignored this safety directive. Lack of Home Maintenance: Dried cat spit-up was left on the floor for days, indicating the sitters were not actively inspecting the living spaces. HOA Non-Compliance: Basic requests to return the garbage cans to their proper place were ignored. They were left out for days, resulting in an official warning from our HOA. Every instruction violated was clearly outlined in our routinely updated online profile. Jennifer's dismissive response proves that 9 to 5 Pets does not take accountability for failing to meet basic industry standards of cleanliness, safety, and communication. If you require a service that respects your home boundaries and ensures the baseline well-being of your animals, I cannot recommend this company.
