    Mark H.

I recently started shopping here when I couldn't find something at another store and am so glad I did. When I first entered the store, I was shocked at how many products they have, and my first thought was "They have everything!" They offer high quality, name brand paints, lawn supplies, brackets, screws, keys and just about anything else you can think of that a hardware/home improvement store would have. They are also a Weber dealer and have every type of grill available from them. They literally have 20 or more grills from which to choose. What I especially like about Katz is the service you receive. If you're struggling to find something, the staff is quick to assist, but if you want to be left alone to browse on your own time, they're fine letting you do that too. On my first visit, I needed a spring for a garage door and found it quickly on my own, but on a subsequent visit I needed several things, including an item I couldn't find. The store was getting ready to close, and one of the owners came over and asked if I needed help, but he couldn't find what I was looking for either and said he was going to give me the better version for the price of the one I wanted. After he pulled the item from the shelf, he said he wasn't even going to charge me at all! He and I talked for a couple minutes afterward, and I really appreciated his courteousness and knowledge. If you take a look at my photo of the hardware aisle, you can see why it could be difficult to find something, especially in the "nuts and bolts" area. They literally have an entire aisle of the store dedicated to screws, bolts, nuts, washers and pieces of hardware I have never seen before, nor know what they're used for. When we check out, we are always greeted by friendly cashiers, who have a smile on their face, and give me the utmost attention. Truthfully, I'm embarrassed that I haven't shopped here sooner, but I'm thankful that I finally did and only wish that I had done so sooner. Even though I've only been here a few times in the past couple weeks, I am constantly needing hardware supplies and will definitely be back. One note about parking. On there street there are 4-5 parking spots, which I originally thought were the only parking spots available, but this is for the side entrance to the building. They have a huge lot to the left of the building, which is actually where their main entrance is located.

Even though, majority of employees should be trained on the wood cutting machine - "Josh" is the only that responds to call for assistance by us and several other customers. And our one suggestion is that they need an easier way for customers to locate help/ or call from the aisles when needing help. And employees need to be evaluated on how often they respond and satisfactorily help customers in need.

Large wood strips and dry wall customer blocking the whole line had a few items and the employer couldn't check them out, didn't know what she was doing. The bar codes were plain and simple. It's unsafe and a fire hazard to have large items blocking the isles when the isle is not wide enough to hold it and let customers get through. They are blocking the exit. On the other side was a couple with a small dog and the another employee kept petting the dog and it was jumping on her and the staff is more interested in the dog than in doing their job. Who is the responsible for the dog, the store or the dog owner. The employee was giving more attention to the dog instead of making sure the customers were being taken care of. Clueless staff. The lines are too close when you are trying to check out large items. No supervisor. This was after 7:00 PM at night. Maybe the day staff is more competent. Add more self check out lines because what you have a customer gets boxed in or have a self check out for large items only. Didn't seem like any of the staff knew what they were doing.

Big box stores leave me basically on my own. Their employees seem to sense when you need help and run away. I'm older and love full-service stores like this that remind me of a different time, before independent hardware outlets started to die off. (Remember full service pharmacies, too?!) Brace yourself for some little points that some may find annoying: the inventory is organized with no rhyme nor reason (that's why it's good to ask). For example, I recently was looking for ant traps. There is a display with mousetraps and traps/repellants for spiders, wasps and roaches. No ants. I turned around and was going for help and there, at the end of an aisle six feet away from the rest of the pest supplies, was a good variety of ant mitigation products (don't buy the little Raid traps, they were useless - I upgraded to a costly, elaborate alternative and it rid us of ants in our summer kitchen.) Finally, the owner has a lot on his plate. He can be abrupt - on the verge of grouchy. But he has a good heart and is never malicious. Just grouchy. The employees can be brief with words and cheerless, but they'll get you what you need and get you on your way rapidly. After all these caveats, a "plus:" they carry many of the latest items - you'll find stuff like the latest laser measuring tool, the hot colors in paint, LED lighting equipment including dimmers, and metric screws, nuts and bolts. Try them. If you like walking around an old-school Hardware "emporium," this is the place for you!

The store has 4 interior doors that we would like to be metal. I explained to the gentlemen what I was looking to do. I had the door width and height, swing and that we wanted them to be metal. He asked me if I was a contractor, which I responded no. Every question I asked, such as, is the door depth inclusive of framing and sheetrock for metal doors, I was met with some snide comment about how a contractor would know this answer. I asked what other information he would require so I could come back with the complete information he was requesting. At lighting speed he rattled off about a half dozen things. I asked if I was bothering him and he said he usually works with contractors who know this information. I said will you only sell to contractors, his answer was no, but they know all the information he is looking for. So rude, so condesending. Off to Tull Brothers.
