This is hands down one of the nicest hardware stores I have ever been in. My friend had heard from a bunch of Glastonbury friends that she should check this place out and I tagged along for the ride. Well. Little did I know what all I needed here! First off, they have one of the cleanest restrooms I've ever seen, so that right there deserves a 10 star review in my book. They have an amazing assortment of keys to buy and have made so I got several spare house keys made. Their home decor section is off the charts amazing and I wanted to buy one of everything. And their employees were very very helpful in helping me locate the electrical tape because there is so much stuff in this store that I legit needed assistance. I recently started shopping here when I couldn't find something at another store and am so glad I did. When I first entered the store, I was shocked at how many products they have, and my first thought was "They have everything!" They offer high quality, name brand paints, lawn supplies, brackets, screws, keys and just about anything else you can think of that a hardware/home improvement store would have. They are also a Weber dealer and have every type of grill available from them. They literally have 20 or more grills from which to choose. What I especially like about Katz is the service you receive. If you're struggling to find something, the staff is quick to assist, but if you want to be left alone to browse on your own time, they're fine letting you do that too. On my first visit, I needed a spring for a garage door and found it quickly on my own, but on a subsequent visit I needed several things, including an item I couldn't find. The store was getting ready to close, and one of the owners came over and asked if I needed help, but he couldn't find what I was looking for either and said he was going to give me the better version for the price of the one I wanted. After he pulled the item from the shelf, he said he wasn't even going to charge me at all! He and I talked for a couple minutes afterward, and I really appreciated his courteousness and knowledge. If you take a look at my photo of the hardware aisle, you can see why it could be difficult to find something, especially in the "nuts and bolts" area. They literally have an entire aisle of the store dedicated to screws, bolts, nuts, washers and pieces of hardware I have never seen before, nor know what they're used for. When we check out, we are always greeted by friendly cashiers, who have a smile on their face, and give me the utmost attention. Truthfully, I'm embarrassed that I haven't shopped here sooner, but I'm thankful that I finally did and only wish that I had done so sooner. Even though I've only been here a few times in the past couple weeks, I am constantly needing hardware supplies and will definitely be back. One note about parking. On there street there are 4-5 parking spots, which I originally thought were the only parking spots available, but this is for the side entrance to the building. Gotta give it up for the local hardware store, which is probably only in business still because people want to support their local stores. (There is a Home Depot down the road.) It definitely has a local side of charm while being, for the most part, very well stocked. And the people who work here are super nice! However, their prices aren't particularly competitive. They do have some non-HD items here, like some premium kitchen products. I come here for quick things whereas if there is a bigger project I have in mind, I'll likely go down the road. Never had any issues here, though. As I previous mentioned, the people here are super friendly and knowledgable. (They're Sox fans, though. I can't forgive them for that, hehe.) read more

After living in town for over 30 years, I think it's a long overdue review. Always a pleasant experience, always helpful staff and they carry just about everything and anything without having to wander long confusing aisles of a big box. I even sent my husband to Katz for stocking stuffers last year ! Yesterday's experience was a leaf blower rental. Our walk behind blower was being repaired and leaves in our yard were out of control. I called at 8 am hoping to secure a backpack blower same day for 4 hours.... voila! Easy pickup and return, no hassle and the specialized gas included in a separate 1 gallon tank. If you are looking for a hardware store like they used to be 30 years ago, this is the place to go. All the staff is friendly and attentive. They are also KNOWLEDGEABLE about equipment, methods, etc. I stripped the wallpaper in my bathroom and the rental steamer did not do the trick. Katz refunded the rental fee because it didn't get the job done for me - even though there was absolutely nothing wrong with the steamer. I have wallpaper applied directly to drywall so nothing is taking that stuff off. I didn't know this until one of the sales people here explained it to me. Returns are handled with a smile. My husband came home with the wrong mouse traps recently (don't ask) so I had to return them. Katz took them back without any hassle. Any of the big box stores would have given me at least a bit of a hard time, especially 2 days after Christmas. Prices can be a bit higher than big box stores, but you are paying for the knowledge and experience here. If I want to work on a project in my house I make a beeline to Katz, because I know I can pick several brains and leave with good ideas. No blank looks, ever. read more

I went into the store today to pick up a bolt and screw for my anti gravity chair. I didn't know what size I needed, Morgan said to bring in the chair and he would get the right one and put it in for me. I return shortly afterwards and he did exactly that. Why do I go to Home Depot, where the crack busts all go down, where it takes me 20 minutes to find the aisle I need...only to find they're out of what I need...when I know I should just go to Katz? During the Snowpocalypse a couple years back, they were the only people in town with roof rakes. Recently, they were the only ones around who carried this obscure lightbulb that I needed for my ceiling fan. I got a dog bed for FOUR BUCKS once. Really! They've got all kinds of really great kitchen stuff too, including a good selection of Le Creuset iron skillets, Dutch ovens & so on. My kids freaked out over the ice cube trays that made ice cubes shaped like dinosaur bones or even shark fins. It's one of those places where if they don't have it, you don't need it. Found out through google that Katz Ace Hardware has very reasonably priced party rentals. Stopped by on a Saturday morning to rent 6 folding chairs and a buffet table for a bridal shower. I believe the grand total came to a little over $20. We were able to return the furniture the next day. Everyone was very helpful. Actually, when we first stepped into the place, we felt like we were transported into the past and that we may be asked to come in through the back entrance. But everyone was very nice and we were in and out of the store, with a car full of furniture, in less than 20 minutes. If I have another large party, I will definitely be back. read more

Just had to update my review! I continue to love this store - I actually had to replace my prior grill purchase (again fom Katz and again great service!) after a tree fell on my old grill and smashed it in our Hallween snow storm ... But I digress... Service, as always , is terrific, but now they've expanded to carry not only their wonderful hardware selection ( everything from snow shovels, tools, lightbulbs, grills, etc... Now they have added a woman's touch with a marvelous culinary selection. The staff here is very helpful. If you have an issue, someone will tell you where to find what you need. Even if they don't carry it, they will tell you what to get at the Home Depot nearby. Do you ever wonder how a select few mom-and-pop hardware stores have survived in the age of Home Depot and Lowes? I'll tell you how: CUSTOMER SERVICE! Katz is the perfect example of this, and I'm proud to call myself a customer. Here's a recent experience to show you the kind of people you're dealing with.... I ventured in last week with a question about a generator cable I had purchased from them a couple months ago. I discovered during a power outage that the cable did not actually fit the outlet for my house, so I was looking to either return or swap out the cable for the correct size. Of course, I had thrown out the receipt months ago, so I was not expecting much cooperation. I could not have been more wrong! I met with Bob, who took several minutes to discuss options, and then provided me with another cable to take home and try out. He charged me nothing (keep in mind, these cost about $125), and only asked that I bring it back to "settle up" sometime over the next week if it worked out. He placed trust in me, despite having never met me before. Some may call that crazy, but I tell you what.... I'll be a dedicated customer moving forward. I love local businesses like Katz who "get it". They care about their customers, and they show it. Next time you're cruising down Main St toward Home Depot, swing into Katz, and give them a chance to earn your business. I bet you won't think twice again! read more

Have been going to this place for several years. Always happy with the paint and customer service. Today was a different story. Went to buy a brand new Weber Grill and wanted to arrange delivery. The standard Delivery is to your front driveway only. Even with a premium delivery upgrade fee, they do not set a delivery date or window. They commit to calling only AFTER the grill is delivered. So the grill will be delivered anytime within a 7 to 10 day window that you are not notified of beforehand. We reiterated his understanding twice before we walked out. Went to ACE in East Hampton And the grill will be delivered exactly where we want it, with a defined delivery window, in just three days. Love this store. A truly local business feel where they treat you like a neighbor. Unlike box stores everyone who works here either knows about what you need help with or will get someone who does. Until today. Until Dave. I had a problem that needed an unconventional solution. I had an idea of what I could use and went in this afternoon. The man who helped me understood what I meant and showed what they had that might do the job. Long story short I had to come back later and he was gone. Enter Dave who wouldn't even let me say a single sentence of what I needed and over talked me that it was upside down and I had to take the bolt out. Yeah. Kinda the reason I came. Because it's upside down and the bolt needs to come out. Problem was I couldn't get it off which he would have KNOWN if he would have LISTENED to me. I didn't build the fence I needed to fix the fence. Rude. Obstructionist. Opposite of helpful. Another man came in and he was perfectly polite to him. Don't know if it's a woman thing or a Dave thing. It definitely was a pissed me straight off thing. Luckily a gentleman, who said he had just started, helped me and even gave me another suggestion. Called on 9-8-2019 had a $3 coupon off a propane tank fill. It had expired 8-30. Asked if they would honor it. They didn't even blink a eye and said no. Not like it was 2 months ago. Filled our tank somewhere else even if it cost more. Likely wont be shopping there anytime soon. read more

I never purchased anything from this store, but I had a good impression that it would provide good customer service given the number of years in town. My experience today trying to get assistance to purchase products from this store was horrendous. The younger clerks that I approached for assistance provided no help whatsoever. They were more concerned about talking about where they were going once off of work. I then approached an older employee who looked like he had more experience and familiarity with the store's products. Bottom line, he helped me get the items that I needed, but he exhibited the worst attitude like he didn't want to be bothered (sighing and rolling his eyes) leading me to the worst customer experience ever. This is one of the last great hometown hardware stores. Yes, not every price is a bargain, but there are bargains to be found if you look, and you can find stuff here that you can't get in Big Box Land. The big box stores are stocked by bean counters - if an item doesn't rotate its stock fast enough, it's gone. Katz has items that may not move as fast - so when you need 'em, they have 'em. We have found many items with competitive prices - e.g., a webbing belt with metal buckle, suitable for heavy tools, at a lower price than the one with a plastic buckle at Cabela's. This place has one of the best selections of canning supplies, parts for your yard equipment, and an AWESOME aisle full of small parts drawers where you can find pretty much any kind of fastener or other small part you could ever need. Plus, as everyone else has observed, a friendly and knowledgeable staff. If you want to browse, they'll leave you alone, but if you have a question, it's easy to find someone. read more
