This place was so overwhelming but so happy we went vs going to Home Depot. Mind you- it's a lot more expensive but I feel if you're looking for a statement piece, there is no other way. We recently remodeled our home and given its new modern flare, we needed to update the polished brass light fixtures. We had a huge chandelier in the entry way, so we decided to head to CT Lighting to pick out something to stand out. The staff was incredibly helpful. They helped us make sure the piece would fit in our space and gave us recommendations. The sales people were not pushy and did not follow us around. When we were ready we found the lady who initially helped us and found our item in stock. You will get attentive intelligent service. You will pay a little more but it is well worth it. They don't sell junk and will want to resolve any problems with your purchase. Overwhelming in the best possible way. My husband and I couldn't agree on light fixtures for our new house, and scrolling online could only get us so far (as far as visualization goes). The CT Lighting Centers showroom has a selection unlike anywhere I've seen in this area. From flush mounts and ceiling fans to pendants, sconces, outdoor fixtures, and elaborate chandeliers, it's a lighting wonderland that consumes every available square foot. While we haven't purchased anything major yet (only a circular bulb to replace in a broken fixture), I'm confident we'll be able to find something to fit our needs. Styles range from traditional to contemporary - lots of those fabulous mid-century drum pendants and sputnik lights that I love! Terrible experience. We would not recommend anyone to get their lighting from here. We were told our light would arrive in seven days and over three weeks later we still do not have the light. Each time we called we were given a different story about the manufacturer and even that an employee just forgot to put in the order at all (this is after we paid in full for the item almost a month ago). Needless to say we are extremely disappointed especially after hearing great things about this company. Ok, so i just got off of the phone with CLC. For the record, I bought a desk lamp for my wife before we moved to Texas. The lamp cost about $100 dollars or so. We just unpacked it to get ready to set up our home office, and we plugged it in and it is popping the circuits. Looks like the switch must be defective. So I called CLC to see what they could do for us. They want me to ship it back and then they will replace it. I know, that sounds good, except for the fact that it will cost over $50 to ship back a $100 lamp. I'm no math wiz, but I'm pretty sure that is a bad deal. I hope many people read this and take it to heart. DON'T ever shop there. It isn't worth it. Buyer beware. Their store is full of cheap Chinese crap at high prices. read more

We were amazed at the selection of lights, ceiling fans and cabinet hardware. Our new house in under construction so we need quite a bit and CT Lighting has it all. Wish I had know about the cabinet hardware as they had a better selection than what the builder offered. The lighting varied from fancy to contemporary and the more traditional we chose. Before buying I did check prices and they are very reasonable. I have no hesitation to buy in the future too. read more

Let me start by saying that I hardly ever write reviews, but the service provided by Connecticut Lighting was so amazing that I felt compelled. When shopping at their showroom, my wife and I were quite overwhelmed as we tried to select a ceiling fan for our family room, screened-in-porch, and a new staircase chandelier. Todd, whose family owns the store, was not only an incredible help on the showroom floor, but provided unbelievable customer service after the fact as well. We had a unique situation where the high-end fan that we selected for the family room kept tilting when in motion, after installation from a contracted electrician. Todd and Neil from CT Lighting could have easily shrugged their shoulders at my dilemma since it wasn't really their problem. However, they both went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that we were extremely satisfied customers. Todd and Neil, not only tried ordering a new fan for me, but also sent out their in-house employee which decorates their showroom, to swap out my ceiling fan. No extra cost to me and AMAZING service from them. Thank you to Connecticut Lighting, you now have a customer for life. Her response was "they don't make them anymore". Which is untrue statement because we were able to find what we were looking for. While the store has a large selection, everything, including the lights, and hardware is overpriced. Pendant lights here are much more expensive than other stores. Some nice designs, but I don't see much difference in terms of construction, durability, etc. You will be pulled in by the appearance of a large selection, however, we were crushed in the wallet, and dealt with long lead times because there is not much actually in stock at the store. Be Aware! Their return policy is not customer-focused at all. They do not tell you this, but lights cannot be returned if they were installed. Our contractor installed the wrong lights due to a miscommunication, but even though they were only hung up for a day before I could take them down, they would not take them back. As a side note to this- I had purchased and paid full price for a store demo model (due to the aforementioned long lead times). When I learned of the "no returns if installed" policy, I asked why she hadn't given the store demo model to me for free since it had already been installed. She did not appreciate this. The lights I had attempted to return were not damaged, and could have easily been used by another customer. Any other lighting store accepts returns. I lost a significant amount of money on those 2 lights. I have nothing nice to say, so I will simply say- No stars. I will not go back. I will not recommend them to anyone. read more

Everything in this store seems to be stuck in 1977...except the prices. The store is cluttered and basically looks like an indoor flea market. You'd think that with such a large store, you'd be able to find anything that you're looking for. But there is a huge gap in contemporary lighting fixtures. If you want to pay 3 times the normal retail for a gaudy bronze and crystal chandelier, this is your place. That is, if you can even find someone to help you, as service is pretty much non-existent. She wrote down everything we needed. We started "easy" and worked our way to the "hard stuff". She was knowledgeable and honest. If she didnt know the answer, she tried to find it.."You dont want this..do this...I didnt show you that section because its the most expensive", etc....which I absolutely appreciate. When we finished, we looked at the time and could not beleive how quick and easy it was. We thought we were going to be there for many hours. Cindy made our experience quick, easy and dare I say fun. I am updating this review and adding a star due to customer service. I just got a call from the owners son Todd and he was so helpful. He personally wanted to see that I was satisfied with getting replacement crystals and ordered a few extra so I could have them on hand if needed. The showroom in Hartford can be overwhelming if you don't have a sales person helping guide you based on your taste. We went in not really knowing what styles we wanted for a foryer & dining room chandelier and ceiling fan but Maureen really helped us narrow things down without any pressure. Fixtures were delivered without any issues, the reason for three stars is that after one of our chandeliers was hung (a floor sample) it was missing 8 crystals; for the price of this chandelier something like this should have been fixed before shipping out or I should have been alerted that they were ordering replacements. read more

Several years ago we bought a few fans from this store. They were not cheap. Last night the fan over our bed did not work. I tried everything. Battery changed,tried the wall outlet, nothing. This morning I called the store. I was told the fan technician was out,but would call me back in an hour. One hour later Larry called. He started trouble shooting what he thought might be wrong. He then walked me through several ways to solve the problem. Larry was patient as well as humorous with me. 15 minutes later fan works perfectly. One digit was off on the hand held remote. Browse here, buy elsewhere. Extremely overpriced relative to online sites like Overstock.com, where you can probably buy a similar chandelier for $200 that this place sells for $600. Even Pottery Barn, on sale, was hundreds cheaper for more stylish designs. I find this place a bit old school in every way - somewhat icky salespeople (one who was overly annoyed by my young children who were doing nothing wrong, many who seemed too busy to even acknowledge us - just not an overall friendly vibe), not the most updated/trendy lighting like you'll see on popular decorating blogs and Pinterest (although there are many lovely choices, especially for exterior lighting), and artificially inflated "regular prices" with still-way-inflated "marked-down" prices. The whole model to me harkens back to a time before everything was available for much less money online. Try Shades of Light, Ballard Designs, Pottery Barn and definitely Overstock once you have browsed here in-person and identified some styles you like. You'll save money and you can shop in the comfort of your home, without the inflated pricing and unfriendly vibe. Edited to add the following based on the owner's response below: The reality for any local business operating in 2015 is that there is an Internet to compete with. I'm all for supporting local businesses and run one myself. I would even pay a little extra to support a local business because I understand the importance of doing so and as a lifelong CT resident who also serves on non-profit boards and donates my time generously, I sincerely appreciate the important contributions local businesses make to our community. My Yelp reviews include many 4- and 5-star accolades for fantastic local businesses that I am thrilled to support. With that said, local businesses have to be as good as or better than the competition - which includes the Internet - to survive today. Give me a friendly place to shop with salespeople who genuinely want to help me, are kind to my children rather than annoyed by them; great, updated and modern product selection and fair and relatively competitive pricing without the "original price" and "marked down (but still inflated) price" game and I'm all yours as a customer. You gave me none of these, and improving your model is on you if you want to continue to survive as a local family-owned business. The world doesn't work the way it did 40 years ago, and the reality is that your customers have more choices beyond our state lines. I would have happily spent a little (not hundreds) more money and purchased my lighting from you had you delivered an experience that was equal or superior to what I could find elsewhere, locally or not. I was open to hearing about the benefits of spending more money at your store and the advantages over buying from the competition had someone approached me to discuss this with me. But in the 45 minutes I spent browsing, the only person who approached me at all did so to reprimand my children. I also would have been thrilled to have my kids play in your play area had someone approached me and informed me that there was one. But none of these things took place, and I left with the conclusion that due in part to the high prices and in part to the unfriendliness of the store vibe, this is a great place for browsing but not for buying. Many people browse before they buy, and research their options - there is absolutely nothing unethical about that. Your response comes across as threatening and defensive, and your argument that I don't support local businesses while knowing absolutely nothing about me and my buying habits as a consumer comes across as a rather pathetic attempt to discredit me as the messenger rather than look within. read more

My family and I were customers of CT Lighting Center for many years. During a bathroom renovation, we called to see if a lighting accessory was available. The person who took our call told us they'd get back to us with additional information within an hour or two. We provided adequate contact information - an email address and a phone number - and never heard back. Not a word. Outstanding in every aspect I live in Norwalk CT so this lighting store is not at all convenient to go to but it will be my "go to" store for any future lighting needs. I was able to bring home many pendant lights for our new kitchen, most of which they took right down from their showroom floor (both in Hartford and Southington). I decided on a Kichler pendant and needed 3. Only 2 were in stock and ordered a third. The third light did not match the other two exactly. I ended up finally getting the exact finish and detail because both stores did everything they could to find the proper finish based on the fact that Kichler changed the finish from one stock to next. Again most helpful and the attitude was "whatever we need to do to make it right". Very refreshing! Thank you! read more

I have worked with CT Lighting Gallery on two large renovations. Their customer service, quality and price have all been exceptional. I strongly disagree that on line offerings are superior. Jim Melcher, their experienced lighting designer has made site visits, specified value directed solutions for the project and worked out a detailed lighting plan. In addition, he worked closely with our contractor and electrician to answer all installation questions. We had one failed LED fixture which was immediately exchanged. The customer service has always been superior, even when the store was crowded. Apart from lighting, their selection of cabinet hardware is vast. They offer many CT and Amrrican made products of high quality, available in many finishes. Their companion store, Restoration Lighting Gallery, is the go to source to repair period lighting. They were willing and able to order hard to find replacement parts for old chandeliers. Their design help and large selection to chose the perfect lampshade is special art. Good afternoon all, We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge a great customer experience we had with Jeff Zagoren at Connecticut Lighting in Southington, CT. Last year we were in the middle of a complete kitchen renovation and we needed a lot of assistance with choosing under-cabinet lighting for our redesigned kitchen. We went to the Southington store and Jeff was eager to assist us. He explained the different types of under-cabinet lighting (advantages and disadvantages), and we ended up ordering all of our kitchen lighting, plus two (2) ceiling lights and one standing lamp for our bedroom. The process went smoothly and Jeff worked closely with us and one of the technical persons at CT Lighting with the configuration of the lights. When the lights came in, Jeff went above and beyond the call of duty by dropping off part of the order when it arrived into your store. When does that happen?? Most recently, we had a need to call Jeff again, as one of the under-cabinet light fixtures was malfunctioning. Jeff immediately found our work order and advised us that this piece was sill under warranty (we didn't have the paperwork, but Jeff found it in your system). Again, we had a GREAT customer experience, made possible by Jeff. He rushed ordered this part for us and we picked it up today. An employee of this caliber should not go unnoticed! I did like CT Lighting Center and purchased five lights from them over the past few years. I also like to support local business even though it may cost me more money. After today I will no longer be purchasing any lights from CT Lighting Center. I bought an Led light for my bathroom that I am redoing. I gave it to the contractor and he put it on the wall. I turned the light on and after two minutes decided it was too harsh for bathroom. I had him take it down and I was going to exchange it for different style light which was more money. When I brought it back they told me they usually do not return or exchange lights once installed even though its says on the receipt that they do with a copy of the invoice. I have the invoice. I replied it's difficult to judge whether you like a light or not without installing it and turning it on. He then said, you should have the contractor hook it up and hold it in the air then turn it on to see if you like it. This sounds like an absolutely absurd thing to do and I would guess most people (95%) don't do it this way. Including the salesman that I was dealing with. The light I purchased was available online for $50 less from a reputable retailer with an easy return policy. I opted to buy it from CT Lighting Center because as I stated before I would rather deal with and support the local business. In return the local business not only charges more money, but also has terrible customer service. I will not support a local business that does not support it's local customers. Next time I will go to CT Lighting Center, look at lights in person then go online and buy it for less money. I will also feel more comfortable knowing that I can easily exchange it for something that better suits my needs. I again will not be purchasing any more lights from CT Lighting Center. I will seek out a better price and better customer service. read more

Not sure how many stars to give. You have the absolute best selection of lighting in the state and the absolute worst customer service. They love to ask if you need help but when you do they act annoyed and bothered. Not one smile or appreciation for your business either after buying three lights.
