"The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways Like a vision,…read moreshe dances across the porch as the radio plays" (Bruce Springsteen) We have a three-season sunroom in the back of the house with screens on the windows and sliding door. When that nasty Christmas week windstorm dropped a whole load of tree debris in our backyard, some of it struck the back of the house, and cut holes in a window screen and the slider screen. So we threw the damaged goods into the car and drove them over to Matt at Welden Hardware. Within just a few days, he called us and said the screens were ready to be picked up. They look great and the price was very fair; in fact the job cost just a few bucks under what our homeowner's insurance company allowed on their estimate. Welden is really quite a cool store. We spent some time wandering around when we dropped off the screens and saw a big variety of products -some of which you'd expect to see in a hardware store (electrical, tools, paint, garden equipment) and some surprises, like snowblowers, kitchen supplies, and gloves. Next time you're thnking of driving to one of those big box hardware stores, check out Welden. You'll probably find what you're looking for, and the customer service will be off the charts fantastic.

This wonderful old-school hardware store is close to my office. I like the fact that it's small and…read morefull-service. The owner and his employees are always here to help you. Big box stores leave me basically on my own. Their employees seem to sense when you need help and run away. I'm older and love full-service stores like this that remind me of a different time, before independent hardware outlets started to die off. (Remember full service pharmacies, too?!) Brace yourself for some little points that some may find annoying: the inventory is organized with no rhyme nor reason (that's why it's good to ask). For example, I recently was looking for ant traps. There is a display with mousetraps and traps/repellants for spiders, wasps and roaches. No ants. I turned around and was going for help and there, at the end of an aisle six feet away from the rest of the pest supplies, was a good variety of ant mitigation products (don't buy the little Raid traps, they were useless - I upgraded to a costly, elaborate alternative and it rid us of ants in our summer kitchen.) Finally, the owner has a lot on his plate. He can be abrupt - on the verge of grouchy. But he has a good heart and is never malicious. Just grouchy. The employees can be brief with words and cheerless, but they'll get you what you need and get you on your way rapidly. After all these caveats, a "plus:" they carry many of the latest items - you'll find stuff like the latest laser measuring tool, the hot colors in paint, LED lighting equipment including dimmers, and metric screws, nuts and bolts. Try them. If you like walking around an old-school Hardware "emporium," this is the place for you!

Some of the items…read moreare very high quality (Waterford glassware) other items are more mundane (common glass pitcher). Definitely a come often and see what they have sort of business. One big, open floor organized by type. Bathroom items together, chairs/lamps/coffee tables near each other and so on. There were some brand new, never used, 30" bathroom vanities with marble tops, two larger vanity tops only - also marble, a couple of medicine cabinets, lots of doors both inside and out, attic vents for the exterior, tiles, so many chairs from waiting room to living room. Beds, electric stoves, carpet squares, office chairs, lots of lovely curio cabinets, desks, some artwork, mirrors, and plenty of lamps, some books, and a little bit of kitchen ware. Remember to look up! There are a lot of ceiling lights suspended from pipes running overhead. The prices here are excellent. I'm a big advocate of reduce, reuse, recycle and this is a good location to find household items, some used, some new and your purchase supports the Habitat for Humanity mission. Win-win!

I purchased my house in 2016, this store would have saved me so much money, I had no idea what it was, or had any interest in it. When I would drive by, I thought it was a storage facility. I didn't think twice about putting it into Google, Yelp or going inside to see what it was. My friend pointed it out to me the other day, and said we have to go there. Ohhmyygoodness this is a MUST stop if you are moving into a new apartment or house. They have furniture galore. They have dining tables and chairs, desks, lamps and chandeliers, framed artwork and mirrors, and so much more. New inventory is constantly coming in. Everything is so much less expensive than any furniture store, even less expensive than Ikea, yet the quality is there. I got this very cute painting of a lighthouse in a beautiful white wood frame for $5. I also got a pouf for sitting for only $15. I have been looking for one of these for a while, they are super expensive, the one that matches my couch was $200. This one is black and white, pretty neutral, looks great and is such a bargain. If you need anything new for your home, please stop by here first. There is no way you'll walk out empty handed.

UPDATE: Shout out to Store Manager (Mario) for working with me to resolve this situation…read more Good to know some people still have a heart and can apply logic despite "policy". Thanks again! ---- Original Post---- As a homeowner, my husband and I have shopped in both Lowe's and Home Depot for over 20 years. We have spent an extraordinary amount of money in both of these stores. We rarely need to make returns, but we just had a recent instance of having to return 5 bags of polymeric sand because we decided to have the job done by a contractor. I saved the receipt and my husband went to the store to return the sand. It was a VERY UNPLEASANT experience to learn that there is a 90 day window on returns (with receipt) and NO EXCEPTIONS ARE GRANTED FOR A RESELLABLE ITEM such as polymeric sand! Needless to say, we have made our LAST purchase at Lowes and I will be sharing this VERY NEGATIVE experience EVERYWHERE I can.

In some categories, they have a nice selection. However in many other categories, they have one single option. The prices are comparable to Home Depot, sometimes a little lower. But Walmart prices tend to be better, for the items they sell.
