If I could give 0 stars I would. This location is the WORST out of all of them. Starting with the receptionist, she didn't even want to greet me, I stood there trying to figure out where to sign in before she rudely asked "can I help you". Dr. Jack sadonvik himself was not friendly. He walked into the room and didn't even introduce himself, he proceeded to just sit at the computer. Once the exam was done I had questions about the floaters I have, he didn't even interact with the conversation, he blankly stared at the computer not once looking at me. After talking about my concerns his only response was "correct". Nothing less and definitely nothing more. At this point, what is the point in seeing a provider? I will NEVER come back to this location or see this provider. read more

Do not bring your children here. The technicians and doctor have no bedside manner. This was my elementary-school-age daughter's first ever eye exam, yet the technician barked commands and expressed annoyance if my daughter didn't immediately comply perfectly. The doctor answered our questions sarcastically and didn't seem to care at all. It's one thing if I could at least say they provided a competent exam... nope! The exam was cursory, and they lacked the basic equipment common in optometrist offices. If you are looking for care or caring providers, you won't find it here. read more

Review for Katzen Reisterstown: Rude. Unreasonable. Avoid. If their business model requires patients to buy glasses with them, they need to say that upfront. I made an appointment for the one annual eye exam covered by my insurance. I knew I likely wasnt getting glasses at Katzen and I didn't think that was secret. The appointment was for the exam. I'm one of many who just can't afford glasses from the optometrist. When I asked - at start of appointment- for my prescription with pupillary distance, I was treated like I was tricking them. "We know what you are going to do with that." Um, I would assume so? Then *after* the exam was complete, they said they would not provide the pupillary distance unless I ordered at least one pair of glasses from them. They also at this point appeared annoyed when I asked for information on changes in my prescription. I drove to the Lutherville Katzen location where I had an eye exam in a previous year. Luckily, the Lutherville staff were professional and answered all of my questions without issue. And for those who like the details: Katzen Reisterstown employee walked me through their pricing. Frame selection was limited and conservative and cost for my lenses and frames would have been $300 for the cheapest frames to $1000 for frames I still didn't want AFTER my puny insurance discount. That price is out of reach for me. I wasnt hiding that and should not be shamed for it. My cost at the local discount place (Optical Center Randallstown) which has a much wider selection of glasses, and with online vendors, is $80 to $180 all in for progressives. Katzen Reisterstown made the case that progressives will be of better quality if made by their office. I didn't have a problem with my previous discount progressives. But even if Katzen's are better, I still can't afford them. If Katzen had said to me when I made the appointment that they won't provide full prescription information to patients who don't buy glasses with them, I would have had my exam elsewhere. Won't be back and just made a family member an appointment to get his eye exam - and glasses - elsewhere. read more

I went with my sister who was the patient and may I say; this whole office seemed as if they didn't want to work INCLUDING THE DOCTOR!!! Dr. Jack was very unprofessional--please do yourself a favor and go to another Katzen location!! If you have ANY questions or concerns you minus well Google them because Jack surely won't answer them nor provide support or guidance! I was on time to me appointment at 10:15. Paid a $40 copay. Still waiting in a room an hour later I tracked a medical person down. She coldly said "yeah we're running behind". I asked how long it would be and she said "at least another 20 minutes." I told her I can't wait anymore and without a concern she pointed down the hall and said "the lobby is that way." I stopped at the reception desk and told them they needed to refund my copay. Was then told "the business manager isn't available. They'll take care of it." The reception desk person didn't even know my name at that point so seemed to have no interest in actually following through. 1 star if that's the minimum. Professional Services rendered! I chose this place because it was so close to my house, almost walking distance. Although I've read not-so-great things about this business, a personal friend visited recently and had only great things to say about it, so I took a chance! I'm very very glad I did! Great service from initial scheduling telephone call to make the appointment til entering the office and conversing with the young lady at the front desk (Michelle). Even the technician that initially assisted me was very nice. His name was Steven, and he was so informative and had a sense of humor! That was very important to me to ease some of the anxiety I was feeling since I've haven't had a full eye exam in many many many years! The wait times are very short, and you're serviced almost immediately! Once I sat in the exam room, I only waited maybe two to four minutes before the opthamologist came in to further assist me for further testing as well as give recommendations. He was very thorough and detailed w explaining testing apparatus, etc. Another thing that I think is very important about this businesses, although it sits on the Main Street, they have a parking lot with plenty of spaces in the back that's less than a minute walk from the front door. This business is definitely worth a visit if anyone is in need of a new ophthalmologist. read more

Second time I have been to this location since I refuse to go Towson because of multiple previous issues. The receptionist was nice, the optician was helpful and pleasant but the optometrist was a drip. He did not introduce himself and was only going through the motions of the exam. I had 2 conditions that will require further work and he was not helpful, answered my questions with one word answers, and seemed totally disinterested. I got better information by looking on the internet. Location is great but only go for the most basic of services. read more

They have DROIDS. Unprofessional. Not kid friendly. Bad mannerism. MY son was scheduled for a medical exam, the fast talking technician did an eye exam. Couldn't understand her, so I asked her to slow down. She said, she's from NY that's why, I'm from NYC- Queens and know how to speak. Doctor came in with no introduction. Asked did we come in for eye glasses. When I informed him it was for a medical exam he looked confused. Next he rolls over and looked in my son's eyes for a minute MAX. Told me to get some drops. While he walked us out of the door, I tried to asked for a suggestion of what kind of drops were suggested, mentioned a brand and suggested I could write it down on my phone. When seeking professional medical advice, people want the warmth of PEOPLE. I mean, we hope to believe that health professionals have our interest in mind, and they take the time to add finesse in their practice- not just collect your insurance, copay, do a little flickering with their machines and show you the door. No offense to R2-D2 and 3PO I'm interested in how they bill. Hopefully the critique will be accepted as a grow for their BUSINESS. read more

I was looking to get away from the franchise eye places and so tried Katzen in Reisterstown, a location convenient to my home. The office was small, a little down on its heels. The receptionist was lovely, the folks who measured for glasses were a bit odd and unprofessional. The doctor? Whew boy, stay away from him. He was rude, perfunctory, sloppy and completely wrong about his measurements and diagnoses. My glasses prescription was so far off, it wasn't even funny. When I tried to get a refund, I was refused. I took it up the ladder, and while I was treated courteously, it was like dealing with automatons. This firm has horrible reviews, especially this location and this doctor, so do yourselves a favor and stay away. read more

I went to this location on friday and I found the eye doctor to be very short and before I knew it he was leading me out to the front where they were trying to sell me some new glasses. The doctor did not tell me anything about my eyes just said follow me. The tech there was okay but i will never go there again. read more

Wonderful practice! I prefer this Katzen location, because it's smaller with a pleasant environment. The receptionist always greets us with a smile. Dr. Sadovnik is efficient and knowledgeable. The staff is always helpful and quite friendly. The optometry team are so very nice. Tim helped my daughter learn how to become a contact lens wearer - incredibly patient. We drove from Baltimore to this Reisterstown location - and now you can see why. read more

I would give negative 300 (-300) stars to Katzen Eye Group if I could. On Friday, May 21, 2021, I visited the Lutherville location. I met with Dr. Katzen himself. The visit went well enough until he determined that I wasn't a lasik candidate, and that my "only option would be cataract surgery". Sound enough advice but the referral to Dr. Booth at the Reisterstown office was a complete misstep. And I think he knew, with the statement, "if insurance won't cover it, it will be costly". That was the start of what I'll call: the Katzen micro-aggressions. On Wednesday, June 23, I went to Katzen's Reisterstown's location. It started with the technician that performed the eye tests. The belittling small talk - "your hair it looks long, does it take a long time to do" and my appearance - "that's a nice bag, it looks expensive". Then I meet Dr. Booth, who explains that cataract surgery would correct my vision issue, but insurance won't cover it, and it is a costly out of pocket expense; "I wouldn't be able to pay for it out-of-pocket - could you" she asks me. I state that no one has given me a cost for the surgery so, I don't know. She goes on to say that it is expensive (again), and she thinks "I can find better things to do with that money, oh and today's visit won't be covered by insurance. Can you pay for today?" I reply that "when I'm informed of the price, we will see". I go on to meet with the scheduling coordinator, who finally provides prices for the surgery. The visit is over and I'm ready to leave. I go to the front receptionist who runs my credit card for $30 insurance copay and gives me a receipt and card back. When the technician comes to the front with my file and says, "the doctor says insurance won't cover today, she has to pay out of pocket". With that the reception looks stumped and says what. The technician repeats, and the receptionist turns to me, takes my card again and runs the card for $270.00 and gives me the small receipt from the card reader. At this point we all know that this visit was not above board and I state that I need an itemized receipt. To this the receptionist replies that she's busy with other patients and "can I call back later, billing can assist you with that". After all of this I'm emotionally drained and don't want to be the black woman causing a scene, so I leave. Per the receptionist's instructions I called the office number back 5 times to no avail. Each time I was transferred to the billing department, where I got a voicemail instructing me to leave a message. On November 15, when I called, the receptionist gave me the direct number to the billing department. I have left an additional 3 voicemails from calling that number, with each voicemail the leading message states that they return phone calls in 2 business days. To date, I have not received a return phone call nor the requested itemized receipt. A few options could have made my experience with this office less aggravating. The first, I find unfortunate in having to say, is to train physicians and staff on how to speak to patients no matter their race, which includes understanding micro-aggression. The second, I should have been informed prior to my appointment that the office did not participate with my insurance and that I would be responsible for the visit but be given an itemized receipt (which I requested at the time of visit and have yet to receive) to see if I can be reimbursed by my insurance. Or third, I could have been provided with the CPT and ICD codes to verify prior to my visit that it would not be covered, and after visit to verify that cataract surgery is not covered by my insurance as well. read more

Appointment at 9:40, seen at 10:15am. Don't expect the doctor to be warm and friendly, and the Retail associates are completely separate from the practice, and Not informative. I am guessing that Katzen somehow got the message that their optical staff was not very welcoming or helpful because our experience there has been the total opposite. We have always dealt with Tim since we started going here this past spring. He's been extremely helpful and very nice. We always get seen right away when we go in for an appointment with Dr. Sadovnik as well. We had been going to Katzen in Timonium and were used to wait times of an hour plus on some occasions. This place is so much better run than the other crowded office. I knew I needed to put in a review because what I read on these other reviews is not the same Katzen in Reisterstown that my family experiences. read more

If you were used to the family-like atmosphere that Drs. Eickhoff and Rowe (and Peggy and Libby) fostered over the years you will NOT find that same level of service and caring at Katzen. The office has been modernized and that's about the only positive change IMO - it's quite attractive now. The receptionist checking us in was singing along with the radio the whole time, stopping for a few seconds when she had a new paper for me to sign, and while cute and "cool", isn't particularly professional. We were seen about 20 minutes after our appointment time, so decided to try to save time by looking at glasses while we waited. The two women who do the fittings, just sat there (no other customers) and never offered any acknowledgement or assistance. The frame selection doesn't seem to be as robust as it used to be. Exam and doc were okay ... very impersonal though (just processed us through the "factory"). When it came time to choose glasses the woman asked, "Did you find any glasses when you looked earlier?" (so obviously she SAW us, just chose not to GET UP and offer any advice or assistance). I said, "my son likes glasses with colored stems or some kind of pizzaz, but we didn't see any", to which she responded with a shrug "I don't know what to tell you..." I was expecting some ADVICE or some GUIDANCE, but apparently that was too much to ask or was too much trouble, so instead I just asked to have his prescription printed so I could get glasses elsewhere ... "No problem!" While we were waiting to choose frames, I also overhead a woman who had made an appointment to order contacts against her insurance in this benefit-year, who was told "sorry, but you haven't been seen in 90 days, so we can't order contacts today ... you'll need to make another appointment to come back for an exam". The woman was upset and responded, "but when I made the appointment, I was told you HAD everything you needed ..." So I guess she just lost out on her 2016 benefit. No offer to squeeze her in for an exam, no offer to just process the contacts order and adjust later if her prescription changed. And obviously no privacy with the new office configuration since I could hear every word of the conversation. I had been going to Dr. Eickhoff since I was a teenager, and decided to give Katzen a try since they already had all my records. But there is NOTHING left of the old practice and I will not be going back. I was supposed to go back for a contact fitting/adjustment, but I'll just pay for another exam elsewhere and start the process over. For my son's glasses, I went up the street to Custom Eyes, was greeted by the owner at the door and directed to 2-3 frames that he thought my son might like ... we chose one of them, ordered and left ... in/out in 30 minutes! read more

Two stars is only for the decent selection of frames. They get zero stars for customer service and overall satisfaction. I was referred to them by VSP as a local provider so I took a chance. What a mistake that was! Let me sum this up by saying customer satisfaction and retention does not seem to be a concern for them, specifically the lady who works in optical. She had a major attitude problem and is not warm and welcoming or apologetic when they royally screw up your order. I waited for 30 min while this woman yaks it up with a family purchasing glasses. She discusses everything from the teenage son beginning to date to her glasses and why she loves them. She sees me sitting there and doesn't even acknowledge me. I finally get helped, order a pair of glasses and am told they will be ready in a week. Flash forward to a month later and I don't hear from them. I left 3 messages in between and did not get one call back. Today I go in and she informs me that she has to call the lab to see where they are as there was an issue at the lab and they had to be redone. Then she says "oh they had you under a different last name and they've actually been here since Tuesday!" Excuse me?! I asked her why she didn't call and her answer was they just didn't know whose they were so they waited for them to come in. Save yourself time, money and hassle and go somewhere that cares about their customers. This place is a disaster. read more

The technician was very friendly and the doctor was pleasant and knowledgeable, although he brushed off my request to avoid a particular brand of contacts that I've had comfort issues with in the past. I ended up liking the multi-focal trial lenses he gave me. My biggest issue is I've been waiting a week for them to release my prescription so I can order more contacts and I'm panicked because I'm almost out and I HATE my glasses. I need to look and feel my best for client meetings but I am practically blind without contacts or glasses. I've called twice and have yet to get a response. This is a huge issue. read more

The one stars is because the doctor did a great job with the exam. Unfortunately, the guy who I met with after ruined it. They waited until after the exam to explain that I had to pay $75 for a contact lens fitting fee that was not covered by my insurance. Now they make you sign that you agree to it before the exam, but did NOT explain that signing means you can't even get your prescription. It wasn't until the exam was over that I was told that I had to pay this fee and they would not even give me my prescription without paying it. Even though I have worn contacts for years and didn't need to sit with anyone for a fitting! When I noted that this should have been made clear in advance he told me that this happens to most people and they just pay it. So basically you are telling me you are always shady! Furthermore, thank you for trying to shame me. I am a graduate student on a very fixed income, which I should not have to explain to you. So yes, I had to pay it to get the prescription but then couldn't afford to order contacts. I will NOT return for eye care at this location. Hopefully in the future they will be honest and up front and not make assumptions. I have been going to Katzen eye group for many years ever since I was little. The doctors/assistants have always been great. However the front staff and phone communication is absolutely terrible. Every time I call I get the call center, which then transfers me to the optical center. Optical never answers the phone and then when I leave a message, I never get a call back. This has been happening for so long and I just let it go. But this last time really upset me. The last time I spoke with someone he said he would mail my contacts. It has been over 2 months and I have never received them. Have called several times, no answer. I had to take time off of work to come in to even communicate with someone. When I came in to pick up my contacts. I couldn't even believe their excuses. When I expressed my concern for not being able to get in contact with anyone, Tim told me "well other offices are worse". That's not something you should tell your customers or patients. You should want to give the best customer service possible. Other offices being worse has nothing to do with YOUR poor customer service. I'm never coming back to this office ever again. It shouldn't be this hard to get in contact with an office. read more
