I went 02/08/23. My 3 year old is allergic to tomatoes. I told them no tomatoes because my son Is allergic. Made an order on Yelp/GrubHub for two orders of street tacos and two beverages. Took 10 minutes to arrive at the pick up window. When we arrived they asked what the name for the order was and we gave them the name. A minute later they just shoved the food and one beverage at us and closed the window. They had forgotten to hand us the watermelon beverage so we kept calling out but no one answered, so my husband decided to go through the front to go ask for his missing beverage. I ordered the corn beef on rye signature sandwich and my wife ordered grilled cheese and tomato soup. We ordered it vi Uber eats and it was cold. The fact that it was cold I can forgive but the bread was dented like someone squeezed it before it was placed in the package and the sandwich barely had any meat. The bread tasted kinda of stale too. My wife's so called soup was a two or two and a half ounce plastic container of soup. It was also cold. Her sandwich was okay. Me and my son went to the Katz's near the Galleria. It's a nice looking restaurant and it was our first time there. I had been going to the one in Montrose for years. My son ordered a chicken sandwich which he enjoyed but me being in a Jewish deli ordered a corned beef sandwich on rye bread. Half of the sandwich had grizzle which I had to keep pulling out of the sandwich. You can't chew it. When the waiter came to bring our check I said there was a lot of grizzle in the sandwich. He didn't say a word, not a sorry or I'll call the manager. Nothing. The chef knows that the corned beef isn't lean when they serve it. For a few more dollars you can go to Kenny and Ziggies for a larger and lean corned beef sandwich. I will not be coming back. TLDR: Racist manager lady on Night Shift. If you're a black person avoid! I called two days before our party came to get a reservation for 30+ people, they tell me they don't do reservations but that they should be able to accommodate us. Our party consisted entirely of several doctors and doctorate students all very well mannered. As we get there, we're told to make space with whatever leftover space they have outside and that the bar is also available to sit at. That means our 30 people party will be split into two groups, one inside and one outside. I ask the Night Shift manager if we can use the adjacent closed off area outside so we can all fit there. She rudely responds and says no she's not doing that. Then the rest of our party arrives and she comes out and very aggressively tells them to hurry up and take a seat. As someone tries ti whisper to her that we're only trying to find out who's going to sit where, she yells hurry up and sit otherwise we are all more than welcome to leave her establishment right away! We're all highly educated people (most of us of African descent), nothing about us would give out a "ghetto" vibe as we were all properly dressed. She even got the security guard to order the man that was whispering to her "Sir, take a seat right now!". Unfortunately, her bias and innate racism gave her the idea that a bunch of unwanted black people were coming to soil up her establishment. read more

Dear foodie readers....as you know Katz's never kloses...well now they opened up a new location off of Westheimer and new castle...which is conveniently located for moi'...of course I have been to the Montrose location many a times, late nights, after school during my university days, or just because I love breakfast 24/7......but now with this place around the corner, I will be visiting more often....Driving into the parking lot, I liked the covered parking option, as you may know Houston summers are not to be taken lightly, those cars tune into little ovens....so it is nice to know there is shaded parking for when those unbearable days arrive. I loved the outdoor patio, they have a tv too for the fans that just can't miss a play...when you enter the place is so well lit, and brightly decorated with white subway tiles, and big contrast from the Montrose location, which is a little darker. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess, and taken to a booth....our sever was just as amiable, we ordered our food, and patiently waited....everything came out within a reasonable time, and we all enjoyed our choices...I did the veggie omelet with sourdough bread, and the potato cakes. They were really good...my son got the fried chicken sandwich, he said it was good....the other one got the patty melt and enjoyed it a lot. I got a side pancake, because you have to try it....it was just right....we love having this place around the corner, and we will be visiting it more often! read more

After a long while ot eating here because they gradually removed the menu items I loved the most and then "patted me on the head" when I reached out to urge them to reconsider (I was told I was only one person and made to feel like they didn't really care whether I returned or not and I ate there 6 days a week for breakfast for years and years). Today o stopped in because they were the only place open and I was in need of some coffee and something hot to eat. My experience was not one of Cate to repeat. My waiter took my order and when he brought my food my bacon was undercooked. I asked if he'd mind making it a bit crispier (it was soggy and raw in places). He immediately took it back to the kitchen and apologized he didn't notice. I began eating and and was in need of a refill on my water and coffee but he never returned. He kept waking by and not stopping. He never checked on me until he realized I'd stopped eating some 20 min earlier as I couldn't swallow another bite until I had a drink to wash it down. He frowned as he approached asking if I wanted a box. At that point I asked him to please remove the bacon from my bill (as I never ever got it back) and just bring me a check. I had only taken a handful of bites (less than 1/4) of my meal and he looked surprised. He asked if I was sure I didn't want to take it. I politely declined as it wasn't that good anyways. He removed the bacon (but never even apologized it had been forgotten) and I paid my bill. I even tipped 20% because everyone has an off day. No apology. No query from manager. No thank you. Nothing. Barry (founder) would be ashamed. I frequented this place in Austin in the 90's and in Houston for years from the moment they opened. It is so sad to see what it's become as compared to how it used to be. If you decide to eat here please have lowered expectations. They simply stopped putting the customer first and now only cater to their own bottom line as they figure they will always have customers regardless since they are the only game in town open 24/7 with this kind of setup. Quite overpriced and poorly sized portions, especially the side dishes like the $4.99 sweet potato fries where I counted 10 fries that were tasteless. My medium turkey, Swiss and bacon sandwich was twice as expensive as what I pay at Avalon Diner where they also serve as abundance of fries or chips as a free side, and before I forget, Avalon's is much tastier. I guess we should have ordered appetizers and desserts so we didn't leave hungry but we thought $50 was more than enough for what we got. Odd thing was we came at 5 pm and the place was empty. I have eaten at Katz in Austin for a Christmas diner and thought I would drop by and see if they had a Thanksgiving meal. They said yes and I said okay. When I got home with the food I was totally disappointed. The meat was deli meat and two carbs, dressing and mashed potatoes, carrots, brown gravy and cranberry sauce not berry. Not what I expected. The hostess then complained that they would have to bus tables in order to find a place for us. No problem, we said, we would sit at the bar. We love a good Reuben sandwich, so we decided to give Katz's Galleria location a try, since the location has had plenty of time to work out all of the kinks of a new location. The location is nicely designed with a covered patio and a beautiful interior with a lovely bar. It was very humid, so we decided to eat inside. The host greeted us promptly and we were seated in a window booth. Our waiter took our beverage order while we perused the extensive menu. We ordered a "skinny" Reuben with Pastrami with 3 ounces of meat, onion rings and Combo 1/2 Katz's Pride sandwich with fried potato wedges. I really like that you can choose 3 sandwich sizes (skinny, klassic or New York). When we go to Kenny & Ziggy's, we have to share or take 1/2 a sandwich home. Here we can get exactly what we want. The sandwiches were still large, less expensive and we left stuffed. The buttered & toasted rye bread and the generous Russian dressing on the Reuben made a great sandwich! The onion rings were crisp, perfectly cooked and not oily... perfection! The potato wedges were also good. The desserts looked good, but we were too full to indulge. A great meal served by friendly, attentive servers! Management even checked to see if all is well. Katz's menu is extensive and they are always open, so there are no excuses for not stopping by. The food was terrible depending on your expectations. Definitely not Katz's Deli in NYC or any Jewish Deli in the Northeast. I had the Classic Rueben, pastrami on rye with sauerkraut. The pastrami was very dry, paper thin and tasteless. The bread was definitely not Jewish rye. The worst part was when we tried to check out. They were unable to check us out due to the devices that were used. It took so long, we had to leave before paying or we would have missed the start of the show. The manger was not customer oriented. She got angry with the group for problems on their side when it as brought to her attention. We returned after the performance and paid our bills. In addition, to the excepted 18% group gratuity, they also charged a Credit Card Surcharge, which was not publicized. Do not waste your money on this overpriced trash. read more

This was my first time visiting this location and I had the worst customer service experience. Our overall experience with our server was good. She was very polite and provided good customer service. However, when asked for a small shot of simple syrup to use for my ice tea, it became a problem. Our server provided me with the simple syrup but also delivered the message from the manager at charge, this will be the last time we can do this. At this point I requested to speak with this manager, Caleb, to ask why this is a problem. I have NEVER been told at ANY restaurant when requesting a small shot of simple syrup being an issue... it has ALWAYS been honored at every restaurant I've visited. Caleb basically said it was their policy and it was from the owners request to not allow simple syrup to be served to customers. Not sure if this is the real reason but that's how I took it as. In any dining experience, you should never tell a customer I'll do this for you now but this will be the last time. This was unfortunately a shock and a disappointment with the service/response I received for such a simple request. Using his words, being the last time, will be the last time I will visit this location and possibly the others. Unfortunately I will not recommend this place to others till I am told they have lighten up on their policies. read more

Food was decent but the reason I took the time to leave a review was because the service was terrible. The waiter/bartender (Ramon) was annoyed because we sat at the bar to order our food (no bar beverages but we wanted a high top table and none were available). We immediately ordered our food and then were ignored after that while he chatted up (and served drinks to) another customer at the bar. This restaurant had the nerve to discriminate against me simply because I had a strapless top on with no bra and they refuse service to me because they claim they are family oriented restaurant hence why I cannot wear the top, but when I asked the manager for her sweater that she was wearing, even though she was wearing a long sleeve button up, shirt under. she denied my request and said no I am not allowed to eat here. This was a horrible experience and if I was the owner, I would fire that lady and the security guard who rudely came up to me demanding to know if I had a sweater. This was very disappointing and I know they probably would never think that someone that looked like me would post a review like this but I did and I really do hope they get fired. This was horrible. on a sidenote, I was in my friends car who had a handicap sticker and he was parked in the handicap spot, and the black security security guard told him that he thought it was my car and he was gonna call the tow service on me to tow my car, even though it wasn't my car and it still had a handicap sticker. The food tastes very good and is fresh. The service is very friendly and they answer any questions you may have. You won't be disappointed if you eat here. It will be the best meal you've had in a while. Their cheesecake is phenomenal. I brought my backpack purse; he stopped me by putting his hand in my face and very pointedly looked at my male friend and said "excuse me sir, but we cannot allow backpacks in this establishment after hours."
