Went here based off of countless videos of research I what to do on the island and this did not disappoint. Booked for a 3pm tour and got there 30 min early. The check-in process was seamless, especially if you fill out the waiver beforehand, so I highly recommend doing that. There were other groups going out so it was busy inside. Our tour guide was Alec and he was amazing. The tubing adventure was everything we could ask for. I loved how we didn't have to worry about saying sorry about bumping into other tubers. I hit my head a few times on the walls, but that's what the hard hat is for. Safety first! The gloves smelled a little mildew-y, but that's to be expected even though they wash it after each use. 10/10 would recommend

This excursion was well worth it! Well organized from the second you arrive. Check-in, change into your swim gear, meet up with your guide at one of the camps (they'll tell you); get your helmet and gloves, load up and go! Pat was our guide for our trip and he was delightful. He's funny, has a good personality, lots of knowledge shared at a human level (so the young and old can follow). Our "look outs" were also awesome! The trip on water was great! You will probably get separated a bit from your crew during some of it but you'll meet up at the end for photos. Prearrange for photo packet. It's well worth it!

The experience from start to finish was top Tier! Never have I done an excursion that I would repeat, but this is the one. Tia and Ansel (our guides) were so informative, funny and friendly! The ride was super fun and relaxing. We took the early morning booking and that was also the best choice! If you are debating booking the tubing adventure, book it now!

It's been four years since visiting Kauai and we had to go on another water canal tubing excursion! This was our second time too! Everything went fantastic again. The only difference was we had different guides...Jason, Anton and Nevea! They were all awesome! Jason was very entertaining and informative throughout the entire excursion. Anson was very comical and easy going. Nevea was the sweetest and so calming. The only thing I'd change from my previous review is to NOT wear a white or light colored rash guard or clothing. Once that Hawaiian dirt gets in your clothes, it's near to impossible to get out. And again, PLEASE tip! I think less people tipped on this trip than the last one. All of these employees deserve tips at the end of the excursion. They really do put extra TLC in making sure your experience is a memorable one.

Totally worth it! This excursion was so fun and very organized. Our guides, Barkley and Jasmine, were awesome! You get to see parts of the island that are not open to the public, enjoy unique tubing through canals and tunnels, and have a yummy picnic lunch. As long as you can stand in shallow water and sit (and lift yourself up in) on a tube, you can do this. We came to the island on the Pride of America cruise, and the location is just a 15-minute car ride from the port. Definitely worth the experience --i t was a highlight of our trip!

I surprised the hubs with tubing down the old irrigation ditches, which was so much fun! Chelsea, Lilly, and Kaeo were amazing guides and ensured that everyone was safe. The group also had 3 little kiddos and Lilly and Kaeo reunited the kiddos with their parents because separation was inevitable. You tube for about an hour, but the total time for the tour including bussing to the location is about 3 hours and is well worth the fun. The company provides the tube, gloves, and helmet. You need to have shoes that you are willing to get wet or you can rent crocs from them. The tour also included lunch where you made your own sandwiches with turkey, ham, and salami on a butter croissant. They also provided cheese, fresh veggies, and mayo. The hummus was so delicious and is made by Chelsea's auntie - this needs to be packaged because it is so delicious!!

Such a fun experience! The mountains and greenery were absolutely beautiful. It felt like a mini roller coaster, exciting but not too extreme. They provide helmets, gloves, and water shoes, and you can store anything you don't want to get wet in a bin at the top. Lunch is included, and you even get to swim in the river. The guides made us feel very safe, and even my 75-year-old grandma did it! I highly recommend it.

Everything was amazing Hans was great ! And so was Drake ! This is our second time going

Really fun experience! Our tour guide Aliya, she is super nice and make sure everybody is understanding all the safety issues and feel comfortable, there's a second tour guide Alexus after we arrived at the tubing station, she joined us and assisting with Aliya, they are both very good at caring for the group, our lunch at the end was really relaxing and there's a couple porta potty we can use, this is a tour that is must do in Kauai!

This was a great family activity and Lily was an awesome guide. They have tubes to fit every body and make sure everyone stays safe.

What a great excursion!! So much fun for the whole family!! I get claustrophobic and it didn't bother me one bit!! The tunnels are wide enough and tall enough I didn't feel enclosed at all!! So much fun, it's a chill ride through the tunnels one tiny baby drop of maybe 3 feet?!??? But super simple just enough to be fun!! It's a tube ride, not a rafting ride!! It's chill and relaxed not an adrenaline rush. Just plain fun!!

Sabryne (sp?) was seriously awesome! She and Kavai guided our party of 9 floaters, entertaining us the entire day. 4 in our party floated the flumes 18 years ago, but made it a point for our 12, 14, 15, and 17 yr old kiddos to experience the flumes! Amazing scenery, easy float, always able to touch bottom. Totally relaxing day...request Sabryn, she'll make you laugh! Thanks Sabryn and Kavai for the memories

Let me start off by saying I'm not an adventurous person at all. My husband was surprised I wanted to do this. But I saw lots of tik toks on the mountain tubing and I thought once in a life time and there is a guide so I'll try it. Unfortunately, the weather was not very cooperative that day and it was raining and cold, but the guides were fine and they still need a good day of it. Asia, Cody and Oscar were all great and fun. I would totally recommend a sun, guard and water shoes. Lunch at the end was nothing to talk about just make your own croissant sandwich but still better than nothing and I'll take any meal that I don't have to pay extra for All in all was a good experience if you're looking for something different to do I would totally recommend the tubing. Enjoy.

Kaua'i Backcountry Adventures Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Kaua'i Backcountry Adventures

Do they have lockers for your stuff or can you bring backpack?

Yes, you can bring a backpack, etc. and take it with you on the shuttle. Once you arrive at the starting point, you can put all of your belongings into plastic tubs. They…

How many people are in each group?

About 20, if I remember correctly, and 3 guides on the water. Their website includes an email address if you want a more exact answer.

Do they offer gluten free options for lunch?

They lay out sandwich components on a picnic table so you can skip the bread and make a lettuce wrap or just eat the cold cuts & veggies. Always a chance of cross contamination though. They also had chips that were gluten free.

Do they have a scale to check your weight?

They do, but they set it to the max and as long as you don't move the needle you are good!

Is there long periods in tunnels as a bit claustrophobic?

Yes! They say that if you're claustrophobic to get off because it is a small long dark tunnel at the end.

Online it says not recommended for people with back problems… anyone have experience with that? Had back surgery last year….

I think they are worried about you hitting the tunnel walls. It can be very forceful because the water is channelling through. When they say keep your arms tucked into the tube, make sure you do. Try not to push off the walls with your feet, just…

Can I bring a flask with me? Edited: in Hawaii, flask is the same as a water bottle, Hydro flask, canteen, camelback, ect. :)

If you are actually serious, yes. They don't search your stuff. However I don't think that would work out well on the tubes, you bump around enough that it's likely you'd drop it. They suggest you leave sunglasses etc behind....and put…

How deep is the water? Asking for non-swimmers.

Never more than waist deep. The most surprising experience for me was how fast the water was moving in places and the amount of spinning we did in our tubes.

Do you get very wet while tubing? Planning on going early morning, but was worried about being splashed by cold water.

You are sitting in the cold water. That being said there are no waterfalls, any splashing would generally be from other people.

How hard is it to get on tube? Is the loading area shallow?

It's really easy. You load while holding a rail in shallow water. Probably waist height. It's an excellent tour.

Is there kamaaina discount? I seen some other sites offering the same tours with the same name for only 101 per person... is this also your company?

Yes, you would have to call them tho

Are the tunnels very long? Claustrophobic?

Not very long & not claustrophobic. I was a little apprehensive, but it was great fun. There's one point where they have you turn off your helmet light & go through in dark but it's fine. The guides are right there. It sounds scarier than it really…

Hi everyone! Best time of day to do the tubing? Or what times did you guys go and how was your experience?:) we are so excited!!

We went in the AM, mid morning. A full group is about 20. We had a blast. In fact it was the best thing that we did. Take a waterproof camera with you...I had my GoPro on a selfie stick and everyone said they wished that they had one.…

Saw a comment about spinning around. For someone who's easily dizzy on tube rides at amusement parks, would this be an issue?

Although you may spin front to back or back to front, you are also in waist deep water so at anytime you can stop yourself by simply standing up. You can also just grab onto the wall with your hand or your foot. I honestly wouldn't worry about…

What is the total tubing time?

About 2 hrs. There is the ride to the spot, and a sandwich lunch after the tubing is done. Then the ride back. We started at 3 pm were back by 5

Is there somewhere to store our dry clothes and towels? What about somewhere to store our cell phones? We are flying from another island, so we will have ID's, phones, etc. Also, what items would you recommend we bring on the tubing adventure?

They have bins for all of your stuff. Water shoes, swim shorts, and rash guards are useful if you have these. They do have Crocs to loan but, if you have your own it's better. If you need to wear glasses, keepers that hold these tight are…

Would you recommend morning or afternoon? My family ranges from 7-65 and they dont want to be too cold or too many bug bites! Thank you in advance for your recommendation. We are traveling in June.

We did the afternoon session in September and the water was cold but not too cold that it wasn't enjoyable. Also bugs were not really that much of an issue. It was a great time and you'll definitely enjoy yourselves!

Do you have to bring an extra set of clothes?

You can pack dry clothes. They will keep your backpack in a storage bucket.

Is flip flops okay or should we wear Tevas?

Something with closed toes would be best so that you can kick yourself off the walls of need be.

    Are the bugs bad?

No, they are not but would advise getting Deet based bug spray. We didn't get bit up. But bug bites are often based on your sent. Some people attract mosquitos more than others

Our guide Kyle was amazing! Since it was off season, he took about 8 persons, 2 tandam kayaks. One guide can take 12 persons maximum. It was great that our group was smaller. The Wailua River is really serene and calm, so both persons forward paddle, versus the back person back paddling in more rapids like Colorado or Sacramento River. We paddled 1 mile to the hiking, and 1 mile back. My arms were a little sore afterwards. The highlight is the hike to the water fall, which is about 0.2 mi in, 0.2 mi out, however it took about 30-40 min one way. Some areas are bush whacking, river crossing (bring water shoes like Teva), some very muddy so you have to slow down, some have wood planks built. When you the to the waterfall, it is gorgeous, and we packed our own lunch to enjoy for about 30-40 minutes at the falls. There were no bugs as we went in mid-January. Morning tours are more cold, so bring a light wind jacket or rain jacket. Afternoon tours are warmer, but you risk having bugs and sunburn.
