We did the Kauai Backcountry Adventures mountain tubing excursion, and overall the tubing itself was fun and definitely a unique experience. Our guide, Meghan, was nice, fun, and did a great job. A few things are worth knowing before you go. The tubing can be pretty rough in spots, so definitely wear the provided helmet and gloves. I would also recommend closed-toe water sandals/shoes. Also, before each waterfall/rapid section, it would be helpful if guides clearly reminded each person to put their butt up, my son didn't hear this cue and ended up hurting his tailbone. One disappointment was that our family kept getting separated while floating. We had hoped to experience it together, but you don't necessarily stay near the people in your group. For the price of this excursion, I expected a much better overall setup. It's a 30+ minute drive out to the tubing location, and no water was provided before tubing or along the way. After the excursion, they provide a "meal" that consists of a croissant with a couple pieces of lunch meat, a small container of with lettuce and tomato, one mustard packet, a small macadamia nut cookie, and a bag of chips. It was very basic considering the price of the tour. They also don't have any gluten-free bread or dessert options for those with allergies. My kids are allergic to gluten and dairy so we brought our own gf bread and cookies. They did have chips that were gluten and dairy free, the Maui chips that are from Pennsylvania. Lol The biggest issue was the cleanliness at the picnic area. By the end of the excursion, I was extremely thirsty and went to get water from the large water jug they provided. When I poured it into my cup, bugs came out of the water jug and into my cup. It was disgusting. I told the staff and asked if there was any other bottled water or another drink available, but they said no and didn't seem particularly concerned about the bugs in the drinking water. The picnic area itself also really needs attention. The benches were covered in sticky residue, grime, and bird poop. At a minimum, the tables and benches should be wiped down between groups. The tubing experience was fun, and Meghan was great, but for what this excursion costs, I expected much better attention to basic things like drinking water, food quality, cleanliness, and guest comfort. With some relatively simple improvements, the overall experience could be significantly better. read more

My family and I went mountain tubing on 06/12/26 at 12:00 PM, and we had a great experience! The staff was incredibly friendly, funny, and helpful from start to finish. The water wasn't cold at all, and there were no bugs, which made the trip even more enjoyable. Floating through the beautiful mountain scenery was so peaceful and relaxing. My kids even said it was the highlight of our trip! I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because several reviews mentioned that the water was only about 3 feet deep. However, near the end of the route, when it was time to exit and they mentioned you could either stay on your tube or walk out, I got off my tube and discovered that some parts were around 4-5 feet deep. Thankfully, my young daughter who doesn't know how to swim, stayed on her tube. For safety, I think it would be helpful if they emphasized on their website that some sections of the river can be deeper than others so families with young children or non-swimmers know what to expect. read more

Went here based off of countless videos of research I what to do on the island and this did not disappoint. Booked for a 3pm tour and got there 30 min early. The check-in process was seamless, especially if you fill out the waiver beforehand, so I highly recommend doing that. There were other groups going out so it was busy inside. Our tour guide was Alec and he was amazing. The tubing adventure was everything we could ask for. I loved how we didn't have to worry about saying sorry about bumping into other tubers. I hit my head a few times on the walls, but that's what the hard hat is for. Safety first! This excursion was well worth it! Well organized from the second you arrive. Check-in, change into your swim gear, meet up with your guide at one of the camps (they'll tell you); get your helmet and gloves, load up and go! Pat was our guide for our trip and he was delightful. He's funny, has a good personality, lots of knowledge shared at a human level (so the young and old can follow). Our "look outs" were also awesome! The trip on water was great! It's been four years since visiting Kauai and we had to go on another water canal tubing excursion! This was our second time too! Everything went fantastic again. The only difference was we had different guides...Jason, Anton and Nevea! They were all awesome! Jason was very entertaining and informative throughout the entire excursion. Anson was very comical and easy going. Nevea was the sweetest and so calming. The only thing I'd change from my previous review is to NOT wear a white or light colored rash guard or clothing. Once that Hawaiian dirt gets in your clothes, it's near to impossible to get out. And again, PLEASE tip! I think less people tipped on this trip than the last one. All of these employees deserve tips at the end of the excursion. They really do put extra TLC in making sure your experience is a memorable one. read more

Totally worth it! This excursion was so fun and very organized. Our guides, Barkley and Jasmine, were awesome! You get to see parts of the island that are not open to the public, enjoy unique tubing through canals and tunnels, and have a yummy picnic lunch. As long as you can stand in shallow water and sit (and lift yourself up in) on a tube, you can do this. We came to the island on the Pride of America cruise, and the location is just a 15-minute car ride from the port. Definitely worth the experience --i t was a highlight of our trip! read more

I surprised the hubs with tubing down the old irrigation ditches, which was so much fun! Chelsea, Lilly, and Kaeo were amazing guides and ensured that everyone was safe. The group also had 3 little kiddos and Lilly and Kaeo reunited the kiddos with their parents because separation was inevitable. You tube for about an hour, but the total time for the tour including bussing to the location is about 3 hours and is well worth the fun. The company provides the tube, gloves, and helmet. You need to have shoes that you are willing to get wet or you can rent crocs from them. The tour also included lunch where you made your own sandwiches with turkey, ham, and salami on a butter croissant. They also provided cheese, fresh veggies, and mayo. The hummus was so delicious and is made by Chelsea's auntie - this needs to be packaged because it is so delicious!! read more

Such a fun experience! The mountains and greenery were absolutely beautiful. It felt like a mini roller coaster, exciting but not too extreme. They provide helmets, gloves, and water shoes, and you can store anything you don't want to get wet in a bin at the top. Lunch is included, and you even get to swim in the river. OMG!!! My zip line experience was so very exciting! I've always wanted to do it and this was my first time! I was so nervous even days before, but when I met the guys in charge I was made a lot less nervous! One of our guides, his name is Hahns ( hope I spelled it correct!). Hahns was very good at calming me down. I became way more at ease than I thought I could ever be that far up! I am afraid of heights! SO MUCH FUN. This was our second time tubing with this group. When you arrive, you can park in the large lot right next to the building. The staff is friendly, welcoming and well organized. We had short briefings, received our equipment and we were off on our adventure. Tubing down the irrigation canals is great fun. You raft through several tunnels, often spinning as you bounce off the walls. Your gloves and helmet keep you safe. Our guy, Eddy, was great. He kept us safe, entertained and laughing. Upon landing on Kauai, we drove around a little, but ended up at Kauai Backcountry really early for our Mountain Tubing Adventure. There's plenty of customer parking. Yay! The intake people were friendly and efficient, local style, greeting us with "Aunty" and "Uncle", making us feel right at home. We had "training" before boarding our open-air bus, being outfitted for helmets with lights and gloves before the ride to the river/irrigation ditch. Covered water shoes are recommended, but if you don't have any, you can rent them there. Our guide was Jacob, local Kapaa guy, who was friendly, personable, and really witty. Had to pay close attention to catch all the jokes he told! Ask him for Kauai's "bests," because he'll give good recommendations... The tubing itself was refreshing and exciting and FUN! It was a first for me and thoroughly enjoyable! I'd definitely do it again! The tubing ride was about an hour long, down a river/irrigation ditch and through 4 tunnels of varying lengths, followed by lunch next to a large swimming hole. Then back to home base, tired, but happy! Totally recommend this adventure to everyone! So much fun! Woo hoo! read more

Let me start off by saying I'm not an adventurous person at all. My husband was surprised I wanted to do this. But I saw lots of tik toks on the mountain tubing and I thought once in a life time and there is a guide so I'll try it. Unfortunately, the weather was not very cooperative that day and it was raining and cold, but the guides were fine and they still need a good day of it. Asia, Cody and Oscar were all great and fun. The tube float through the Plantation tunnels was my favorite thing we did on the island! During our second visit to Kauai we booked the tubing tour through the tunnels and it was so fun! It is truly an all-ages experience. Our group had about 20 people and ~6 employees. It was sprinkling on our way in and it rained out our way out but it still made for a great day. Visiting from Maui. Not enough words can describe this unforgettable adventure!!! If you're on the fence, snap out of it and just book it already. Worth every penny. Period. We wanted to book an excursion while visiting Kauai and this was the right one for us. We did the morning ride around 920am which is what I recommend so you can finish by noon. Cant get any better than a lazy river ride down scenic views (private sustainable property) with 20 other people and our guide. Our guide, Jacob, was awesome. He's a local guy with all the knowledge of the island with places to go, things to see and how to enjoy his "home." I cannot say enough good things about him. He had our group laughing, engaged with bus chat and happy the entire time. The whole staff were wonderful and showed the spirit of Aloha and what it means. Highly recommend this for your next trip. Pro tip 1: Go to Walmart and get yourself the phone sleeve so you can take videos and photos while going down the river. Its in the electronic section for $10. You're welcome. They take some professional photos that you can purchase too. Pro Tip 2: Bring your extra set of change of clothes with you and leave it in the car so you can change into after the tubing and you can continue on adventures. I would recommend going to Waimea Canyon after since it is on the south side and easy afternoon activity after the tubing. Lots of lookouts and yiu can even see Niʻihau (forbidden island) in the drive back other direction of fork. Tip: You'll see it on the tour drive back but there is a small tent smoothie stand in a field. THE BEST smoothie ever. Get the sugar loaf x watermelon or mango combo. You're welcome. It's Totally Tubular! If you come during hurricane season, all that extra tropical rain will fill the river up and give you a guaranteed fun, floaty time! The weather here is no joke, it changes every day/hour/minute! I booked, canceled, rebooked based on weather changes and finally said, oh well to hurricanes. But the Vacation-Gods were watching over us, as it turned into a perfect day. The whole excursion was easy, from booking online, free parking, easy tutorials, picking up gears (helmet/gloves), and the bus ride to our lazy river sight. We also got fed a Costco luncheon deli meat on bread for lunch. Wish it was a meal that connects you to the island, like loco moco or spam musubi. We can have deli meat on a piece of bread anytime. The river was filled with fresh water so, we didn't have to push our tush up often. The water flow was slow enough with a few tunnels that flowed a bit faster than others. Once you get your tushy into the tube, there's practically no way it will come off. So flow flow away!! This excursion was one of the highlights of my trip and I recco to do it at least 1x in your life! YOLO! NOTE TO PARENTS - When the river is extra juicy, those dark tunnels can be a bit more turbulent and can make their tube spin extra fast for your little ones. I heard a little girl (9-11yr old) scream and cry her eyes out through one of the tunnels. Staff was able to pull her out with her mom immediately for her safety. read more
