We stayed in the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage, with a reserved parking stall! Clean and well stocked for our needs; we were out most of the time everyday. Didn't need cleaning attention as we are neat and tidy. Air conditioning was a welcome necessity especially with the humid weather, in each bedroom and in the living room. Good value for the price! And as other Yelpers have noted, the location is ideal, close to the airport, midway between the South Shore and the North Shore, and close to many good eateries, the shopping mall, and Costco! Did a 5 day, 4 night (Mon-Fri) stay here earlier in March, and we got the king bed with AC for $890. We super enjoyed our stay here and felt like it was supporting a local business instead of a big chain hotel like the Marriott. Pros: - super communicative hotel, they texted me beforehand and had us do some pre-check in stuff to make the check-in process really smooth. When we got to the hotel (which is SUPER to the airport), it took like a total of 5 mins to check in and grab our keys. - Really good central location in Lihue, where you can easily drive an hour north to Princeville, or west towards Port Allen to do tours. - There was always either street parking or parking in the lot available, we didn't have to worry about walking far. - budget friendly - probably the cheapest option we found for 4 nights during spring break week - Pretty clean - we had a couple small cockroaches that were in the bathroom once or twice during the stay but it's very island-y so I don't fault them for it. Otherwise the bathrooms, bed, and closets were all really clean. - they provide beach towels for you that you can trade in at the front desk - this super friendly cat that kept wandering the property was so cute haha - I liked that we had a fridge! to keep all our grocery store poke to snack on. - Checkout was also really easy via key drop off. - Air conditioning and fan were really helpful for the weather. - Complimentary water and coffee during the day - so it was helpful for waterbottle refills before we went on our adventures. - We didn't utilize housekeeping, but we did just ask for extra roll of toilet paper during the week. - convenient location - it's walking distance to Kauai diner, a 7-11 (longer walk), and some coffee shops. Cons: - the room is small - basically a bed, a shower, a fridge. There's 2 chairs in it but no table or anything, so if you're trying to eat in your room, it can be tricky. If they were taking suggestions, I would suggest a fold down table attached to the wall behind the door or something that can be pulled down for meals or sitting around for a chat. Otherwise, the room size didn't really bother us because we were mostly out and about being outside in nature, this was really a place to shower and sleep and store our stuff. - The bathroom and shower stall can feel really tight if you're a tall or wide person. I definitely accidentally hit my elbow a couple times on the wall while brushing my teeth haha. Overall, I would say this boutique hotel offers some strengths, including location, convenience, and price. Kauai is typically kind of expensive as it is, so getting 4 nights for under $1000 felt like a pretty good deal to me. No huge red flags, but definitely not for you if you're used to big rooms and resorts. read more

We stay on Kauai a few times a year and just discovered this great little place. For starters the location is central for going West and North. The bed was so comfortable. Everything was clean and love the plantation feel, not to mention the mini museum. We are even stopping in to listen to Talk Story on our way back. Our hostess made it all come together. If you're looking for budget-friendly accommodations in the Garden Isle, then Kauai Palms Hotel is a good place in the center of Downtown Lihue. It's also a good place if you're going to be out and about most of the day and not spending too much time in your room. If you want some type of resort, then you would want to look elsewhere in Lihue, Poipu Beach, or Kapa'a. There are different types of rooms and for my first time staying in November 2023, I had the "Deluxe Room with One Queen Bed and AC". Not too shabby overall, but the overall room space is relatively small and tight and the bathroom space is really tight...and for anyone big, it could be somewhat of an issue. It is an older building, but was still relatively clean! Check-in time is between 3-8 PM, and when checking out, you'll deposit your room key into the designated slot at the office. There is free on-site parking in their front gravel lot or in the back paved lot, but it is on a first-come first-serve basis and could get tricky late at night or during peak travel periods. There is nearby street parking, but just be mindful of any no parking signs and don't block any driveways. Good budget-friendly Kauai hotel and I hope to be back soon! read more

I very much enjoyed our stay here. We had a corner room which was close to the laundry room, so it got noisy sometimes but it didn't bother us. We had the kitchen to save some money on meals. The bed was comfortable although the pillows were very hard. Minor thing to me. I would def stay here again if we come back. I had booked a package deal that included this hotel. Let me start by saying the front desk worker was incredibly sweet and really apologized for their mistake. Big mahalos to her. The female manager, however, was extremely rude and condescending and never even apologized. We had booked a queen bed and got a double. We complained because we paid for a queen bed and this bed was clearly not that. This was our anniversary trip. I was told by the manager on the phone that it WAS in fact a double bed and she was there when it was purchased. Had she offered any kind of apology or a solution, I would've understood that it was a mistake and that we couldn't be moved because they were sold out. However, she insisted we were wrong, and that it was a double bed, so I had to literally go to ACE hardware down the street, buy a tape measure and prove her wrong (this whole process ate over 2 hours of our trip btw). She then sent down her front desk worker to take a video because we weren't believed. When she realized she was wrong, she didn't apologize but continued to be condescending saying things like "my dear" and "as I've already explained". I've worked half my life in the service industry and this was disgusting behavior from a "manager". Also VERY embarrassing that she was there when it was purchased and couldn't tell the difference between a double bed and a queen bed. So, she was either lying to us or isn't exactly an expert in her field.... Bottom line: we did not get the bed we paid for, had to deal with an extremely unprofessional and moody manager, and was told by said manager that we either stay in the room and pay full price or go find somewhere else and we had 15 minutes to decide. Being that it was 7:00 on a Friday night, we didn't have many options that wouldn't have been a huge price increase for last minute. She had no shame and no compassion. We are also kama'aina and two teachers from Oahu on an anniversary trip which I tried to explain. No aloha, no empathy, no interest, nothing. Save your money and go somewhere else. The hotel itself is cute and convenient, but it's not worth it to be lied to and then spoken to in the way that we were. read more

The staff alone was worthy of 10 stars. We stayed in cabana A for our first night, and being DESPERATE for a good night's sleep, we were pretty disappointed about how loud the AC unit was. It would turn on in the middle of the night and wake us up. Not only that, but the walls are pretty thin and our neighbors were partying. Unfortunately, after walking to the office in the rain, in the middle of the night, there was no one there. We considered booking another place for the second night, but decided to stay since we would be moved to the main building. Thankfully, it was everything we were looking for, and we had a great night's sleep. My friend rented it but i got to check it out. She had room 22 which is a tiny bedroom size with a full size bed, tiny kitchen fully stocked, utentsils, hot plate, microwave, coffeepot. Pull out dining table with 2 stools tucked in (City Mill sells them) TV, free Wifi. Bathroom shower would be a tight squeeze for a big person. No Contact check in at night, survelliance cameras on premise. Parking was a bit tricky late at night. Free parking or side street parking. Located walking distance to a popular noodle shop. Kauai Palms is right around the corner from Hamura Saimin where you can get yummy garlic noodles and oxtail soup. I wanted to love this place so much! From the outside it looked great and even initially inside the room looked nice. I turned on the light and saw a big cockroach on the restroom floor. I thought to myself 1 roach isn't that big of a deal. Then I started seeming a bunch of little baby roaches all over. Then I started moving things around and there were all sizes and they were coming out of the shower and sink. I would call it an infestation. I almost when to sleep in my car! This place was great for the one night we were there. Since we missed our flight we needed a couple of beds for my family for the evening. Hidden in an industrial part of Lihue, this hotel met all the basic needs - clean and quiet. Credit to the friendly staff for their recommendations. The bonus was the extreme water pressure in the shower. No joke. The bowling alley is a 5 minute walk from here and a cool place to spend some time. Would come back here if I needed to! We enjoyed staying at smaller hotels whenever we visit Kauai vs the big hotel chains. This hotel is located in the industrial area and very close to the airport. Although we did not at all hear any planes flying over. The room is a bit small and outdated but workable for 2 adults. They do not have a table in the room, only a chair. So I had to use my laptop at the table just outside our room. If you need a hairdryer, you will need to borrow it from the front desk which you can keep during your stay. Housekeeping is ONLY on the 3rd day. I requested cleaning with the door sign hanging on the 4th day, but I had missed my chance. I was able to swap out the bath towels with the front desk, and they do have extra trash bags inside the trash bucket. The best part is parking which is just out front so you don't have to walk far after a day of sightseeing. Hi to Mango the house cat, he's very adorable! Gem of a motel in Lihue! The room was very well cleaned and the gardens outside were just beautiful. I feel so refreshed after a 6 hr time difference jet lag coming from Florida. Also they had complimentary coffee, a mini fridge in the room, and a communal microwave which was nice because I could Store and re Heat my dinner leftovers. Checkout time is 11 which is a nice bonus, as most hotels do earlier. Also checking in and out was extremely easy. Would definitely recommend. read more

Honestly, I wish I could say good things about this place because it was fairly cheap. However, I am afraid I can't. The hotel had several amazing things about it, including the kitchenette and two beds. The beds however were extremely uncomfortable, I've never seen this in anywhere I've stayed, so I was quite disappointed. The bed sheets and comforters had odd stains on them and we were under the impression that they had not been washed. In addition, the place was infested with cockroaches. I left my $300 Bose headphones under the bed, after being rushed out of the hotel room by the staff. When I called about this, the staff claimed that they weren't there. They claimed they would talk to their staff but eventually stopped answering my calls. I am under the impression that one of the staff members took them and didn't report them to lost and found. I don't recommend staying here, unless you don't mind my descriptions. read more

In addition I found cockroaches in my cottage letter A. Please do not stay here. I would recommend spending a bit more and enjoying your stay in Kauai. Our flight arrived about 7 a.m. so we tried to leave our luggage at the property. Unfortunately there was no secure area to leave our 2 bags as the woman on duty said it was raining. When we checked back a little past 3 pm the room was ready. My husband has health issues so I requested a low floor and we were given room 10 with a/c and a ceiling fan. There was a mini fridge in the closet with 3 hangers. Also a tv and remote but we never used it. The size of the room was like you'd find in Japan and Korea only with island decor. It was fine for the budget price we paid. My only REAL displeasure was the mold in the shower stall and the ants. We had brought pastry from Honolulu to Kauai and overnight ants got to them so we couldn't take them to our family gathering. The room had ants on the walls, in the night stand drawers, in the sink. I was charging my cell phone and apple watch and those ants came out of nowhere snd were all over them. It's no joke, I had a hard time getting to sleep thinking the ants would be crawling over me by morning. read more

Our friends and I rented a house for the week in Poipu. However for my wife and I it was cheaper to fly in one day sooner ahead of the group and rent a hotel room. Saved us hundreds on the flight. We didn't want somewhere bourgeois or pretentious, just a room for the night. We figured a room was a room. We were wrong. While the KPH is definitely only a room, it's also all spirit. It's got that 1950's old wooden surfboard Beach Boys feel to it. Room was cozy and clean. Check in was easy and friendly. I would totally recommend it to someone who is play all day and needs a decent place to hit the hay. Because let's be honest, you came to see the Island, not sleep your day away. The room was very small and there was a very tiny closet that I couldn't even turn around in. The bathroom was also tiny and I kept hitting the side of the wall with my elbow. Also the room was not very clean, the bed had really old sheets on them and the windows were not sound proof at all. The chickens woke me up at 5am in the morning. But it still might be the best hotel on the island.. I've stayed in many hotels on Kauai, most of them nicer than Kauai Palms...but none of them better If you want to spend your time sitting by the pool this is not the place(no pool)... but, if a hotel is just a place where you sleep and store gear while you explore Kauai.. 6-stars read more

Experience 1950's Hawaii at the KAUAI PALMS HOTEL. This is the best bang for your buck in Lihue. The staff was helpful and had the Aloha spirit. The rooms are small and basic but very clean. Cottages are adjacent to the hotel. The hotel is located in a neighborhood a short drive from the airport. Up the block and around the corner is HA COFFEE and KAUAI BEER COMPANY. Next door is HUMARA SAIMUN NOODLE SHOP which is like eating in someone's kitchen. It was great! This place worked great for me -flying into and out of Lihue, as well as being half way between the north side and the south side of the island. If you want fancy and new, stay at a resort. Personally, I enjoyed the old Hawaiin feeling of this small hotel- like the Kauai I use to know. BTW, if you don't like roosters, don't come to Kauai. read more

We stayed here 2 nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff are amazing and Ron, the general manager, is a true gem. If you get a chance, ask for Ron to " talk story" with you. You can find out the history and legends of Kaua'i along with seeing many interesting artifacts. You will also hear about many fascinating sites to visit during your stay. We learned so much about Kaua'i and the Hawaiian islands. Ron was entertaining and very knowledgeable and kept us engaged and interested. Hotel room is vintage, is very clean and has everything you need. We were able to drop our suitcase off early and explore the island the day we arrived. Lots of people here from different European countries during our stay. Great food options a couple blocks away and the brewery even has 4 ounce sample sizes so you can try several of their different beers in one sitting. I've seen this hotel property on hotels.com over the years and usually find something else in Poipu for my stays in Kauai. This year - 2017, it was decided destiny. Let's get this straight: The Kauai Palms hotel is affordable accommodations for your stay on Kaua'i. It's location is centralized in Lihue, about a mile from the Lihue airport. However, when I arrived here on a Labor Day weekend stay of 2 nights, I was a little bit surprised that this hotel was a converted apartment building turned into a hotel. It felt more like a motel with modest accommodations, but in the end, it was a good decent stay without having to break the bank. The major thing you have to realize is that it is definitely not luxurious, but you are typically paying less than $100/night on average. That's a good thing for those traveling on a budget but if you are like me, budget friendly can be good, especially when you're paying for travel out or pocket and not getting reimbursed from anyone. Still, can't go wrong with budget friendly, even if it is a little ghetto for your liking. The overall experience here at the Kauai Palms hotel was actually pretty good. For the money spent over the Labor Day 2017 holiday, it was centralized to where I needed to be. While it is certainly no Sheraton or the Hyatt, the Kauai Palms hotel provides safe and affordable rooms in the town of Lihue without breaking the bank. The Kauai Palms hotel is located at 2931 Kalena Street in the heart of Lihue, its right off Rice Street and Kress Street, so you can get easy access to highway 56 / 50 and to the airport. The Kauai Palms hotel has limited parking options in front of the hotel, as well as parking on the other side of the property. Not sure about the Kauai bus options though, since I rented a car during my stay here. They accept major credit cards, as most do in the industry. For the most part though, the hotel lobby was decent and kind of nice. They have ice machine there, as well as laundry machines. I think they have a computer for guest use, I didn't use that. They do have wifi on property, so that's a good thing, especially when you are on the bed and want nothing to do but surf the web and not move around lol The room itself was okay. Very small, but okay. No air condition but a ceiling fan and a small flat screen television on the wall. I got room #15 and the room key was very much old school as it can get. Not that I am complaining though, but that's how some properties operate nowadays. The bed itself was a king sized bed. It was okay, but comfortable at the same time. There was a small table with a lamp on it. Two chairs but nothing else. I really thought having a small desk or something would be cool, but I guesss having that small of a guest room, you do make sacrifices. For the most part though, it did feel stuffy and humid in the room. Without any air condition, it kind of sucked. What can you do when you are trying to be on budget, but to suck it up and deal with it. The room itself was clean and the bed was made when I first checked in, which is good. The shower worked, although it was a challenge to turn both of the knobs. The front desk service was okay, positive, and informative. I checked out early at 4am, so i returned the room key in the key drop in the lobby before heading to the airport. For what it worth though, not a really good stay, but it's affordable when you want to stay on Kauai to avoid the area resort pricing and just want that island experience. Perfect place for us. We are from Oahu and needed a place for us to stay while my son was taking a class for the week. The staff is friendly and the place was nice. Its older hawaiian style and cozy. I loved it! We got a 2 bed/bath for the price of a resort room. Parking was great and i liked that i didn't have to go out to a parking lot to go get stuff from my car. My daughter and I didn't the days hiking and playing tourists on both sides of the island and it was nice coming back to a relaxing place. Cons: We only exterminated 5/10 small cockroaches (they were fast and resilient!), tiny room (2 feet clearance from sides of our queen bed), room locks are basic (no dead bolt), and shower water temperature fluctuated cold to hot constantly. Overall: Ok place to stay if you are tight on budget and don't mind pests. If management can get pest control in regularly - then this motel would would fair better. 2.5 stars. read more
