Captain Matt was very knowledgeable, fun, and skilled at driving the raft. He also has very good taste in music! Our original boat had mechanical problems the day before so we ended up doing the raft tour instead. It was a ton of fun to ride the waves, but make sure to bring eye covers for the salt water spray (goggles, sunglasses, etc.) Another perk of the raft is we got to go inside caves we would've otherwise not gone in had we done the boat. It's super bumpy and our out of shape bodies were extremely sore the next days. If you're cool with that definitely recommend! read more

My boyfriend and I went on the rafting/snorkeling tour with Captain Sean & Leo. My boyfriend loved it! Everyone was super friendly from the office staff to the crew onboard. This is a tour not for the faint of heart though! The raft goes really fast through the waves and Sean is a great captain making the ride as comfortable as possible and obviously knows his way around the ocean. In all honesty, I was quietly having a panic attack the entire time but that's not the fault of the captain or crew. The part that I really enjoyed is Sean & Leo are both born and raised on the island so the vast cultural and historical information they shared was amazing and worth every panicky minute flying along bluffs, through waves and doing donuts inside a cave. We saw a ton of dolphins, turtles and even a mana ray! Even though this type of adventure is not my personal favorite, I highly recommend the tour. Ask for Sean & Leo because I can't imagine there's a better crew out there with more knowledge of their island. read more

Amazing once in a lifetime views. The captain and crew were so attentive and seemed to love what they do. Captain Kauai provided an informative and entertaining history that rivaled our phone tour guide app. The dolphins were a beautiful sight only topped by the smile of a much loved Nana/Gma whom the crew helped make her way to the front of the boat to reach out to the dolphins. Unfortunately my son and I got a little sea sick and the crew was so attentive and tolerant even lending us a jacket to stay warm. Incredible tour. The captain and crew are all amazing. Evan was so great narrating the whole tour, pointing out landmarks and making sure we didn't miss a waterfall or sea turtle spotting. Julie, Howie and Colin provided exceptional service, making sure everyone had drinks and snacks, taking care of anyone who happened to get seasick, offering to take photos for you. Absolutely top notch would highly recommend this tour for anyone! The boat is great, plenty of places to sit in and out of the sun. Great views of the water, sea life, and Na Pali coast. There are 2 nice clean bathrooms. They provide great snorkel gear, and even noodle floaties for anyone who just wants to take a dip! Heads up if you are GF, the breakfast is mainly breads/pastries so I brought a snack. Lunch is sandwiches but they have nice big lettuce pieces to make lettuce wraps instead of sandwich, so I didn't have any problem. We had a wonderful time on the ocean. Although the water condition was not good for snorkelling, we had as much fun on the raft. Captain Matt and Drake were the best. I was only feeling a bit nauseous but they were really helpful and gave me ointment to allow me to enjoy the ride. We also got to see amazing views and drove into crazy cool caves. Wow, this is a must do! The four of us had a blast on the Na Pali Snorkel Raft Adventure! We bronco bucked it up the na pali coast, saw some wildlife (dolphins, sea turtles, octopus, etc), went into some sea caves, stopped to snorkel, and had a nice lunch with plenty of food and beverages. If you can get Shaked as your captain it's worth every dollar. I've done a lot of boat and snorkel tours, she is truly exceptional at making the most of your experience. If you're on Kauai more than few days just book one. Keep in mind October on the Napli coast probably isn't going to happen - or if it does it'll be intense (type 2 kinda fun) as you get thrown around through gnarly waves. In the early winter they'll still book it, but if there are 30 foot waves obvioulsy the raft isn't going out there so you'll have the opportunity to refund or go south Don't sell the south island tours short, still a wonderful day without risking a massive hangover from Napli coast sea sickness! read more

They went above and beyond, checking in regularly to make sure everyone was safe, well fed, and not seasick. The boat was very clean. Kauai Sea tours has a raft tour and boat tour of the Na Pali Coast. My husband and I went on the boat tour in order to experience the beautiful Na Pali Coast of Kauai, which is unreachable by car. First of all, the tour was not cheap. It was around $100 per person, but it was around 5 hours long and included breakfast, beverages, and lunch. Oh, but bring your own bottled water, because they only have plastic cups for water, cans of soda, and mai tais, all of which can easily be spilled. We were very happy with the tour, despite the price. The Na Pali coast was breathtaking and the crew was extremely friendly, informative, and fun. On the tour, we saw tons of dolphins, an enormous sea turtle, goats along the shoreline, and we got to do a little snorkeling too. There was one little problem though. In the fall and winter months, the sea is quite rough with enormous waves. The crew told us to get ready for a roller coaster ride, but perhaps some of the older people didn't really hear them. After about a half an hour of "riding the roller coaster" and enjoying the excitement of the splashing sea, I looked around me and noticed that about 1/3 of the passengers were all shades of white and green and barfing into buckets. Pretty gross. Thankfully, I didn't get seasick, but if you think you might get seasick, only go on the boat tour during the calmer summer months. Captain Kauai, Cameron, Teeg, and another girl whose name I never did catch were a fucking awesome team! This crew went out of their way to make the entire trip memorable and enjoyable. As others have said, we saw dolphins, turtles, and even goats! The tour was fun and very insightful, as Captain Kauai is a local (and a damn fine captain, if I might add) and has a lot of knowledge about pretty much everything you could want to know about Kauai. I asked him a lot of questions over the course of our 6 or 7 hour excursion, and he always had something useful to say about whatever the topic was... oftentimes his response would also be hilarious... a nice bonus. :) My wife and I were on our honeymoon, and of course that news can't be kept secret which eventually led to the crew finding out. As other reviews have mentioned, the crew singled us out, and brought us up to the front of the boat for photos near a waterfall. The captain then deftly steered the boat right up to the rocky coast to put us underneath the waterfall for a kiss (and plenty of photo opportunities), all the while playing "Everything I do (I do it for you)" by Bryan Adams. Jeez... what a ridiculous scene. We could not help but crack up at the absurdity of it all. :) Captain Kauai and crew truly delivered a lasting memory for us with that one. We stayed in Hawaii for 10 days, but this was HANDS DOWN the highlight of our trip. We had so much fun on this boat! The beautiful scenery, the comfort of the ride, the genuine and friendly attitude of our crew, the great music playlist, the snorkeling, and the sunset... just wow. Awesome trip! Tips: 1. You're going to get wet, then get dry, then repeat probably at least 20 times during this venture. Wear light clothes, and bring a towel if you want to. You probably won't need the towel, as the wind and sun will dry you out pretty quickly. 2. Bring a jacket if you get cold, because once the sun goes down it does get a little chilly on the water. 3. SUNSCREEN! Don't even think about applying once beforehand and "that'll be enough". You'll want to reapply at least 3 times on this voyage. And do the crew (and everyone on board) a favor: when you are using the spray on sunscreen, spray it onto your hands and then spread it onto your skin. The puddles left behind by spraying all willy-nilly are SUPER SLIPPERY on the boat. Don't cause an accident! 4. Bring cash! Your crew will be busting their asses running around to make sure that everything goes perfectly smoothly, and that YOU will be having a fantastic time. Tip them! They most definitely deserve it. 5. Bring a good attitude, and have fun! This trip will make memories for a lifetime. :) read more

First of all I would like to start by saying I am the furthest from the type to write a review, but after this experience I had to share. This was by far one of the worst tours I've ever been on. REN (check on her name, this was on the morning of September 1) and CHANCE were my boat guides. This tour was sold to me by UNCLE MIKEY who is a local in north island selling tour packages. I went into this told it was the best possible experience for the Napali Coast. I was promised to be able to experience the famous caves, snorkel and explore IN THEM, as well as snorkel on the beach landing with clear waters and an tour of the beach with history and a lunch. The boat ride began promptly at 6am and the first thing Chance asked was if anyone had soreness in their back and neck. when sold this package I was told that if I have any kind of soreness in my body that I would be offered the front of the boat seated chair position to alleviate the harsh waters. Before boarding the boat I asked Chance if I could please sit in this seat to avoid any more soreness and he said NO. I was really shocked considering this is a $260 a piece tour. Chance was not engaged with us at all and kept repeating with Irina how they worked a double the day before and just were not wanting to be there that day. Upon boarding this raft immediately felt like honestly ANYTHING would be safer. (I am a complete adrenaline junkies who paraglides and zip lines so for me to say that is really saying something) they have you sit on the sides on this raft and hold on to this rope on the sides while also shoving your feet under this tight rope on the ground that completely rips apart the entire top of your feet and is extremely painful. The first 3 hours of the tour Chance sat in the front of the boat in the seat (I had requested by the way) with a zipped up water coat blocking his face and slept the entire time. Anytime any of us tried to ask him anything he ignored us and slept. Irina kept laughing and repeating how they worked doubles. We are all there and paid a lot of money to enjoy and be around enthusiastic people am I right? This was not the case I was the MOST excited about the promise of these caves and being able to go in, jump in the waters as promised and explore them. Not only did we only go in 2 caves when promised many more ( up to 5) but when we entered we did not stay longer than 2 minutes .. not even long enough to snap pictures. When I asked if we could get in the water I was told no even though I saw the boat right before us allowing their guests to jump in and snorkel. This was so disappointing! We then went straight to the beach landing where we got out and Chance finally woke up while complaining, and not wanting to get in the water. The "tour" he gave us had to be the most boring unenergetic tour I've ever been on. He was picking fruit up off the ground and having us eat it, following it by saying how disgusting he thought it was. Finding it funny that we thought it was just as gross we then followed him down a path where we walked along the beach, and that was pretty much it, I still learned nothing from this gorgeous beach with so much history. Both REN and Chance did not want to get into the water because they were cold so instead they had us get in and throw a snorkel gear to swim around where the water was very murky and we could not see anything, I had gotten out of the water within 20 minutes because it was so disappointing. I then asked if we would be able to go back to the caves and do the snorkeling as promised and explore them as promised and Irena said, no. After this, we took off to head back to the dock, which was well over 70 miles, (so they said) and by far the most painful, awful, excruciatingly,terrible brutal boat ride of my entire life! Again I am very physically fit, and do everything adrenaline-based, these waters were so unsafe and The entire ride back, she was flying through them without any regard to the safety of her passengers, and I almost flew out myself over 10 times. She claims that if anyone was having a hard time to let her know and she would stop but when I tried to tell her this, she ignored me. She did not offer rope gloves, until , the last 15 minutes of the boat ride, I was literally in tears by this point it's so much pain because of the way she was driving the boat . I couldn't believe how absolutely terrible weather conditions and how she was handling this boat in these waves. We were flying up and slapping down so hard. My neck and back were crunching. It is been two days since this tour, I still cannot walk, I am in chronic pain, I have massive rug burn on my butt , hands and cannot believe that this is even legal!!! read more

Highlight of our vacation! We took a similar boat ride with snorkeling in Maui a few years ago and liked it a lot but this trip, with its incredible scenery and narrative by Captain Greg as we went along, were AWESOME! Loved it! We came across 3 dolphin pods. 1 pod swam alongside the boat with us for a good while; a DOZEN dolphins, including 3 or 4 babies, within a few feet of us. Captain Greg and his mates Evan, Julie and Kobe were fabulous hosts and a lot of fun. We stayed up front and rode the waves most of the time. Remember to bring cash to tip the crew as you get off! 15-20% is standard. I talked to Evan for a bit. He's native to Kauai and grew up in a fishing family so the Na Pali coast was basically his playground as a kid. He literally smelled sea turtles in the water before we passed them. Talk about an authentic local! The boat has 2 bathrooms, which is a major advantage over zodiac boats (Navy-style rafts). It offered many seating and standing options and the food was good. They had hot coffee and pastries in the morning, then sandwiches, cookies and drinks for lunch. I have issues with motion sickness but chewing 2 Bonine 18 hrs before and again 1 hr before the boat ride worked fine. I made a point to stay in the fresh air and where I could see the full horizon, right up front. Worked great. read more

Trip of a lifetime. We almost cancelled the whale watching rafting trip because we stayed in Poipu and it was raining all night the night before and in the morning. Upon calling the Kauai Sea Tours office at 7 in the morning to check the status of our 8 am trip, we were informed that the weather was fine at their Port Allen dock. We arrived on time and signed the waivers. We quickly got an orientation and off we went on our 23-foot Zodiac raft. Five minutes into the trip as we sailed out from the harbor, we got our first sighting of a pair of humpback whales which put on a show for the next 2 minutes! The whales were spouting, breaching, splashing their tails and flipper. We stopped about one hundred yards from the whales which was the law. Then our whales left and we went further west and saw 3 more whales in the next 2 hours. We finished the tour watching spinner dolphins and sea turtles. All the time our captain, Shared, and guide, No-No, gave us a very educational experience about the sea animals and we even listened to the whales sing with their hydrophone. I am not one who enjoys taking organized "tours", but in a place like Kauai and the Na Pali coast you don't have much choice. I would recommend Kauai Sea tours and the 1/2 day tour - there was probably approx 40 people a capital, and 3 other guides. We lucked out wiht some great weather, but unfortunately the water conditions didn't allow for snorkeling - they did stop and let us swim for 15 mins or so before heading up the coast. the continental breakfast was good, there was an ice chest with sodas, and juices available all day. A buffet lunch of deli meat was adequate for the situation and then of course the never ending mai tai's, beer, and wine. A finale with a cookie tray was good also! unfortunately, you always get a group that thinks "free booze" well in reality you did pay for the tour, so not sure about the "free" part, but I find it extremely tacky to put beer cans in your purse and double fisting drinks - whatever.... We got to see a few whale which they said was amazing as it is the end of the whale migration season. Lots and lots of dolphins (someone said over 200, but whose counting!) the coast is amazing and worth the entire trip - just beautiful! we were so relaxed on the way the back - a nice woman actually came over and said " I must take your picture - you look sooo relaxed" we were staying up in princeville, so about an hour drive to and from this tour, but would definetly do it again! read more

We did this in March and the waters were choppy. HIGHLY recommend the raft vs. the catamaran (although if you have back issues, then avoid). We saw quite a few people get sick on the cat and our raft was able to traverse more quickly to find whales. We were also able to get closer to shore which was nice, since it was an overcast day and we were able to see the coastline more clearly (on sunny days, the waves cast a reflection). Our guides were great - they were intent on helping us see whales and oh boy did we ever! We saw breachings and a whale literally grazed our raft. We saw pods of dolphins and honu while learning a lot about the area and the coastline (including where movies were shot). The captain is a native of Kauai and had laser eyes on finding signs of whales which was awesome. In March, you do not want to snorkel north shore. So, although this was advertised as a snorkeling tour - you're better off DIY in south shore or going with another provider. Our snorkeling was ok, but it was at the end of the trip when we're all hungry & tired. Therefore, we probably stayed in the water for about 20 minutes. Tips - Dramamine makes you high. Really think about it before taking it...the rest of our day was shot because we were semi-comatose. - Longer pants/board shorts will help with the chafing. - I don't care how manly you are, take the gloves they offer or your hands will get destroyed. - Our boat didn't get very wet. They provide wet bags so it's fine to bring cameras on board. read more

My husband and I took the NaPali Coast cruise with Captain Kauai and his crew and we had a super fantastic time. First and foremost, the Na Pail Coast scenery was absolutely breathtaking, not to mention the dolphins and sea turtles swimming alongside the catamaran. Snorkeling in the crystal clear waters was pretty amazing as well. Capt Kauai made sure everyone received some great background information about the island and all its' history. There was plenty of seating around the catamaran, although I highly recommend standing by the front of the boat just to feel see all the sights and feel the wind blowing through your hair...you can also re-enact the whole Titanic moment, if you'd like. To top it off, we ate (sandwiches, pasta salad, cookies, etc) and drank (delicious beers) to our heart's content. I highly recommend Kauai Sea Tours to anyone visiting Kauai - it's a wonderful way to start off your day and a fantastic way to tour the coast. We didn't even end up going due to their lack of customer service. We booked the tour and was notified less than 24 hrs to confirm. We called to confirm and asked some questions regarding our son, who is special needs... by the way, he does not scream, yell, or inconvenience anyone. She went as far as saying "you shouldn't bring him." The person on the phone was complaining about past special needs customers and how they were inconvenience to everyone. She went as far as telling us that we should rent our own boat and do it alone and that we should be more sensitive about others on the tour. She told us that we should Not even come. She assumed that our son yells, screams, and made some very derogatory remarks about how the kids are noisy, scream, and freak out. We again stated that he does not have behavior issues as she expressed. We then asked, if she does not believe our son is fit, can we get a refund... she stated, your trip is in 22 hrs, therefore, no refund. We told her we would go... we heard a deep breath of frustration over the phone and again said that yelling, screaming, etc., makes it difficult for everyone. She was plainly rude in her tone, communication, etc. At the end of the day, we decided not to go and forfeit our money. No amount of money is worth bringing our son into a toxic environment that is so insensitive to special needs children and families. My RECOMMENDATION is for you to go see the islands local favorites: Captain Andy's, he has catamarans, rafts, and full blown tours. His name comes up all over the island. read more

My wife said "Let's go on a whale spotting tour!" I thought "LORD Jesus, save me!" I hate cruise ships, so I was going to hate this for sure too. Plus, whales are supposed to be pretty smart. We're going to shell out good money for a boat ride. I couldn't have been more wrong. Most importantly, we saw whales! Lots of whales. None next to the boat so that you could touch them--there are rules for how close you can get--but lots of whales. Captain Jack (Kaua'i) Sparrow skippered the trip and manned the public address to keep us apprised of where to look next as well as sharing whale facts (many proved to be true) and local history. Auntie Jenny, Koa, and Mathew kept everyone safe and lubricated with water, soda pop, or adult beverages (all part of the fare) as well as a light snack. If you love the ocean and boat rides than you'll love Kauai Sea Tours! The your starts in Hanapepe which is on the southwest side of the island. The tour takes you around the west side of the island and you turn around short of Princeville and head on back to Port Allen. The captain is very informative about the different mountains, caves and sea life that you'll see. We got to see flying fish, spinning dolphins and giant sea turtles along our trip. The day trip that starts at 3pm also allows you to see the sunset. The trip includes water, juice, soda, beer, wine, Mai Tais, snacks and dinner. **I had a headache for most of the trip so I wanted to make sure I stayed hydrated. I drank 1.5 liters of water within an hour of the trip starting. BAD IDEA! The choppy seas for the first part of the trip made my stomach feel queasy. I believe I was the only one on the trip that had my lunch come out of my mouth... lol It wasn't funny at the time, but now that I'm back on land, I can laugh. I'm usually perfectly fine on boats, but drinking all that water was definitely my downfall. Anyway, the staff on the boat is absolutely amazing! They are all so helpful from helping you walk to your seat (since the boat is swaying), throw your trash away, getting you drinks or in my case, if you aren't feeling well they get you a beautiful white bucket, ice water and a cold towel to put on your neck. The staff definitely makes the trip more worth it and are willing to go above and beyond to help you out. We went on the catamaran which is 25x60. It seems pretty large. On their website they say it can fit around 90 people, but they only book up to ~40+ people so you have enough room. They have seating on the top deck or the lower deck. They have 2 bathrooms, a bar and a food buffet. My dad said the food was pretty good here. They offered dinner rolls, rice, salad, chicken teriyaki and a tofu veggie sautée. If you're in the Kauai area, definitely check this place out! Happy sailings and remember, don't drink so much liquid on the first half of the trip. I absolutely loved this tour! Greg the Captain and Guide CJ were rad and friendly. They are not joking when they warn you in the beginning that you should not take the raft tour if you have any injuries or back issues. It can get pretty bumpy and rough, but so worth it! Even though my butt is sore, I wouldn't trade the experience for a catamaran trip. You get to see so much more and if you pay close enough attention to the waves and anticipate the bumps, it's so fun! The snorkeling was ok, but I think I've been heavily spoiled when it comes to amazing snorkeling. This of course, is unpredictable, like seeing dolphins/turtles/whales/etc. and not the tours fault (unfair that some people take points off for such things, as if it's possible to control the ocean and sealife).
