The people who work there are nice for the most part but occasionally you encounter the employee who doesn't seem happy to be there. My mother is a patient as well as me and we don't have any complaints.. Just know that it's the same as any doctor's office - you'll be waiting a LONG time. Even after your appointment time. I would avoid this place completely! This is my second visit here first time I saw Dr. Carol. She was awful. Second time. I saw Dr. Faust told me I may have glaucoma and eye cancer.. I'm 38 .. I went for my annual every year and no one told me that until now.. I'm going for a second opinion because I don't believe it's at all. The lady at their desk when I told her to give me my prescription, she looked like I asked her to go to God's and earth for me she looked miserable. She rolled her eyes and slammed it on the desk.. the guy Neil at optical is not aware of you and just makes you wait there very unprofessional.. To make matters even worse, they never told me that I needed somebody to drive me home. My eyes are blurred for two hours, and I was driving and could've caused a really bad accident... didn't tell me to bring in my glasses. They did not prepare me for my appointment whatsoever. I thought it was just a normal annual exam... I think they just want to run more tests to get paid by the insurance.. Avoid Kaufman Eye Institute in Wesley Chapel if you value your time, money, and sanity. We've been taken advantage of multiple times, and the lack of accountability is outrageous. First, the optical department gave my daughter the wrong prescription for months. She was struggling to see, and no one would answer the phone. We had to go in person just to find out they had been reordering her old prescription by mistake. Instead of taking responsibility, they made us pay out-of-pocket for another appointment--even though we were only there to fix their error. That ended up being her one insurance-covered visit for the year. Unbelievable. To make things worse, the optometrist John is consistently rude and dismissive. When I asked for a copy of my daughter's contact lens prescription, they told me I had to come in person--like I have time to drop everything for a single sheet of paper that could easily be emailed or faxed. Then they handed me the glasses prescription instead, and we only realized when we went to order contacts. Now I have to go back again just to fix another careless mistake. Ordering glasses or contacts is also a nightmare. They rarely answer the phone, and when they do, the communication is poor. It takes 7-10 days just to receive contacts, which makes no sense when companies like 1-800 Contacts can deliver them the next day. For how much they charge, there's no excuse for being this slow or disorganized. This office is completely incompetent. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration--go literally anywhere else. read more

I was referred by my own Eye Specialist to Dr Munger of Kaufman Eye Institute in the Zephyrhills Office and they faxed my doctor notes to that office prior to my visit with Dr. Munger for an eye infection in the right eye. Before leaving for that appointment I was contacted by telephone by someone from Kaufman Eye Institute and told I had been referred to the wrong doctor and that I needed to come to the Wesley Chapel Office and see Dr. Johnathon Kaufman. I arrived and completed the required paper work and was taken back to an exam room by a female nurse/tech...wish I knew her name...she proceeds asking questions and making notes in computer then proceeds to start giving me a vision test in both eyes and I questioned that because my left eye was very irradiated and sore as 2 weeks prior I had a Cornea Transplant and on this very day that morning I had to have a gas bubble placed in that left eye which I informed her of...she continued to be focused on examining both eyes when I was only there for the infection in my right eye...at one point when I questioned why are you doing both eyes...her comment to me was WELL YOU DO HAVE 2 EYES YOU KNOW ....at that point I told her I felt she was being a smart ass to me and her reply was well you are asking so many questions...VERY UNPROFESSIONAL ON HER BEHALF...she wasn't listening to me as the patient and as the patient I have a right to ask questions. Bottom line my sore left eye had nothing to do with my appointment with them that day.. Then Dr. Kaufman comes in and is confused about why I was scheduled with him so I told him about the call I got from his office to cancel my originally referral with Dr. Munger that my eye doctor requested and he found out that it was his own office that had made that decision. Dr. Kaufman proceeded with eye exams of BOTH my eyes and ask me if my eye doctor was wanting a 2nd opinion on my Cornea Transplants...I was so confused and stressed at that point...In the last 5 minutes of my visit the doctor finally realized the error of his office and the reason I was there...for an infection of the right eye and in his exam he found an old eye plug in my tear duct from years ago that was causing my eye infection..he removed it immediately and increased my dosage of antibiotics in that eye and told me I needed to come back and see Dr. Munger after all. WOW.... I did make an appointment before I left the office, but shortly after leaving I cancelled the appointment and will never return to this practice...mainly because of the nurse/tech.... I felt no one was listening to me and I felt violated for all the exams preformed on the wrong eye with all the bright lights and being given a vision exam on an eye I could not see out of at all and had just had a gas bubble placed a few hours before ... I wasn't understanding that at all. Did no one read my eye doctors office notes about my referral .. surely no one was listening to me read more

You will tend to get people who you can't please, who just want to give bad reviews. FYI you give the OD your prescription by how you answer during the refraction, doesn't mean it the doctor's fault. I've had nothing but great experiences with Dr. marquis, Dr. Kaufman and Dr. Faust. They always take their time with you so yes sometimes they get behind and if you can't understand good work then go somewhere where they will rush just to get you in and out like you want. My family and I will always choose Kaufman Eye over any practice! read more

My appointment was on November 4, 2023. I saw Dr. Carol Marquis. The reason for the poor rating is that she gave me a bad prescription. I have been getting eye glasses for 30 years and have never had this happen before. In addition, the same thing happened to my father. He was given a bad prescription from her. We both had to go back to different eye glasses shops to have our prescriptions fixed. I also had to pay out of pocket to go to a different O.D. (at another practice) to get a corrected prescription. That new O.D. told me that the prescription Dr. Marquis had given me was vastly different than my previous one (and I get annual eye exams). So the more concerning part is why she didn't look into the health of my eyes further, if my vision had supposedly changed that drastically. When I did get my glasses back, I couldn't see out of them at all. It hurt to wear them. I even tried to wear them the next morning right when I got up. But they weren't right. This had never happened to me in 30 years. When I got my corrected prescription back this week from the new O.D. though, I could see great. As previously mentioned. The same thing happened to my dad too. He was given an incorrect prescription. All of this resulted in wasted time and money due to her poor performance. Just thought you would want to know that you have a liability on your hands with this lady doing such sloppy work. read more

First off I'd like to start by thanking the team at Kaufman Eye Institute for an amazing experience during my appointments. I had scheduled my appointment to do Lasik eye surgery follow up appointments with Dr. Jonathan Kaufman. It was my first time at this location and it was also a very busy day. I was called back for my appointment 5 mins after checking in. The technicians are wonderful and very sweet! I saw the doctor within 20-30 minutes of my visit. Dr. Kaufman is one of the best eye doctors I have ever been to! His impeccable knowledge in this field is outstanding. He thoroughly explained everything I needed to know about Lasik and helped me make my decision for the procedure. He is very personable and trustworthy. read more

I went to this office because in the area I live they did not have an appointment for up to 3 months. I should have waited because I was referred to a neuro ophthalmologist due to suspected papilledema and this office since January 2022 barely gets in contact with me. Papilledema is serious and I saw Dr. Munger. He confirmed I had papilledema and my nightmare began. I had to do an MRI of the brain and this office never got back to me with the results. They kept saying they did not receive the results and after they said the Dr. was on vacation. 3 months passed and I had to call the original MRI office to have results sent to me via e-mail. I had to read my own MRI. The next step would be a lumbar puncture if the MRI turns out normal. I have been trying to get the paperwork from this office for that procedure. Finally got it in May of 2022. I had some questions and I have yet to speak to this Doctor. I now have to go to another office with a new Dr. so that I can have someone monitor my situation. I do not recommend at all. read more

Best experience ever. I have been a patient for two years and a half. I got to this clinic because I found them in google, no one recommended them. But ever since my first call to try and schedule an appointment my experience has been 10/10. They have been angels sent by God for me. I had an ulcer in eye and this got me to lose my cornea, so I got a cornea transplant. I have been to all of offices they have. Techs are very nice, all of the front desk ladies are very helpful. My doctor is Doctor J. Kaufman., Morgan is the sweetest. As long as you communicate with them they will always work with you. They are always busy so you have to have patience when you are there.. but that is only because doctors take there time with giving you the treatment you need and they answer all Your questions to ensure you leave happy. Hope my experience can help you with feeling a little more confident about scheduling and appointment with them. read more

My 92 year old aunt went here. Had an eye exam and ordered glasses. The glasses came in but they weren't right and she had trouble seeing. So she went back and they gave her an appointment with a different physician. He wrote a different prescription for the glasses, back in November. She still has not received the corrected glasses. There apparently were problems with the lab they use. After numerous phone calls, she still has not received her glasses, nor have they given her money back. I would not recommend this place. They do not provide quality service or quality products. read more

My 14 year-old had her first fitting for contact lenses last week. After the doctor's examination she told us we would have to make another appointment so they could teach her how to put in the lenses because the tech that does it was not there. As our faces grew in disappointment, a tech named Miriam knocked on the door. She said "I have a teenager and I understand how disappointing it would be if your daughter left here without her contacts". She brought in a DVD training video to watch and with her help, she was able to successfully teach her how to insert, remove and care for the lenses. She was soooo patient with my daughter, as it took a while for her to get them in and out. Wow what an amazing lady! Miriam saved the day! read more

I can see better than I ever have and don't need to where glasses now, which is the first time in 50 years I haven't worn glasses. Horrible experience with office staff today. I had appointment at 8 but traffic was backed up on the exit - the interstate was closed and caused a major issue with trying to get through the intersection. THis caused me to be 20 minutes late. I was turned away because they only allow 15 minutes - SO that 5 minutes became an issue - they refused to understand that the traffic was so bad and caused me to be late. Too bad. I brought up the last time they cancelled my appointment after i showed up. I was told the tech called out sick. THAT'S OK. After i left work early, drove to office for tests to be told too bad no one here. We left you a voice mail 2 hours earlier. But i can be given the tests because of 5 minutes! Rude and disrespectful front office and anyone involved in turning me away instead of fitting me in since i was already there! I checked the appointment reminder and no where on the reminder did it state you have only 15 minutes to be on time or you'd have to reschedule! NO WHERE... Will find another Dr. They better not bill for a missed appointment as i WAS THERE! You refused service. read more

I started attending January 2018 due to Glaucoma and I have a hearing disability. They took the time to be sure I understood the results and even used the erase marker board to write on if I did not understand their conversation. Dr. Kaufman Sr is a very nice man who also took the time to work with me and very direct of what I need to do and what not to do. It has been a year and continually and my eyes are making a big improvement with the help of eye drops. I was referred to Kaufman by the optometrist that tested my eyes. He was concerned that my eye pressure seemed to be high. I have been going to Dr. J. Kaufman since 2015. When I started I had no insurance and was self pay. I find their fees reasonable and fair. I am still self pay because my insurance does not cover Kaufman Eye, even though they were listed as one of their providers. Dr J. Kaufman is very caring and explains everything to me so I do not worry. I am 67 years old and I have cataracts with high ocular hypertension. The office staff are very friendly, welcoming and professional. I could change to a doctor that is on insurance provider list, but I believe that the relationship I have with Dr J. Kaufman and his staff is more important. Thank you all for caring. read more

The staff was professional and helpful from scheduling my appointment, signing in and with my initial exam prior to meeting Dr. Parker. Dr. Parker took the time to re-exam my eyes, educate me on my eye disorder, the test that will be run (and why) and the different solutions available to assist in correcting my problem. I have scheduled my follow up which was simple and convenient because they have availability on the weekends without having to schedule so far out in the month. read more

I had them removed and now my handicap has dropped 4 strokes and I am getting ready to join the Golf Channel Amateur Tour Senior division. Extremely bad experience. I took an appointment with the receptionist based on her recommendation to see an optometrist for $109 and when i arrived to the appointment they said only the ophthalmologist is there and I need to pay $179 or come another day. I had taken time off from work and I wasn't going to be able to take another day off. They were extremely rude and blamed me for the situation and didn't take the responsibility. Very bad service and they obviously don't know the worth of retaining customers through good customer service. They just wanted the money regardless of anything else. read more

I I contacted this business today in an effort to make an appointment for an eye exam and to order glasses. I provided all necessary identification information including my insurance program and ID number. They provided me a date for the appointment, but then also demanded my social security number. Having been a past victim of identity fraud, I resisted giving the receptionist my social security number. I assured her I had many forms of identification including my drivers license, law enforcement credentials, voter ID card, etc; but that I would not provide my social security number as I considered it an improper request. Consequently I was told that "the doctor" demanded it. If I did not provide it, they said they would not work with me through my well documented insurance provider with whom they are an in-network provider. This business should be avoided. I later found through comparison shopping that their prices are also quite high. read more
