This review is for VRBO listing Property ID 634387 | Unit # 129. We chose this condo because it had central AC and the location in Kihei.  The location was in a decent place and the condo had enough space for my wife and two boys and seemed to be relatively clean, that's where the positives end. We arrived in Maui at around 11:30am on Friday, since we couldn't check into the condo until 3pm per the reception email instructions we decided to go have lunch and pick up some items from Costco.  Upon arrival at 3pm we checked the email from the owner and noticed that we never received the pin for access to our room - we messaged the owner through the VRBO app and didn't receive a response, then called and the call went to voicemail.  Owner didn't get back to us until about after 5pm with the code to the condo, which wouldn't have been so bad if we didn't have food from Costco in our car!  I understand that people can get busy, but I don't understand why you would send us a reception email without the code to get into the condo.  This was just the beginning of a very stressful trip. The first night in the condo I had to smash a roach in the bathroom while coming out of the shower.  I didn't want to make a big deal since I understand that we are on a tropical island and I know roaches live here so I attempted to let that slide.  However, shortly after, my wife was taking a bath, attempting to relax from our long travel day - a live roach jumped into the tub with her!  All I heard was a scream and water sloshing around, I thought she slipped in the tub.  We notified the condo owners and we were told that they would get someone out by possibly Tuesday.  Ok... The owners never followed back up with us to either let us know if or what time their pest guy would show up, so we were left in limbo as far as knowing when this pest problem would be resolved.  Tuesday at around 3-4am the AC shut off on it's own and my wife and I woke up in a sweat.  We thought maybe it was on a timer or something as it turned back on by itself around 10am. By Wednesday the roach kill count was up to 8 - we had another in the corner of our room and one was actually crawling around on our bed!!!  The AC stopped completely at around 4:30pm and that lasted through the whole rest of the day and all night.  At this point we were fed up and I called the owners to find out if their pest guy ever came, since they never let us know from the initial request on the first day and also to let them know that now the AC is not working.  I reiterated to the owners that we chose their condo because it had AC and that we've been coming to the Hawaiian islands for 15+ years at this point, staying in everything from resorts to condos, and have never experienced roaches to this magnitude - to which he replied I've been going for 30+ years.  At this point I'm extremely frustrated.  My wife who loves baths is terrified to get into the tub, my kids are scared and expecting to find roaches under everything and on top of all that, it's the end of June in Maui and HOT and our AC is out.  When talking to the owners and voicing my concerns I didn't get the overwhelming feeling that he really cared, it was more of the "you're on a tropical island, you should expect this" attitude.  To their defense, after this phone call the next day management did come and fix the AC and their pest guy came and sprayed.  However, this was Thursday of our trip, it had almost been a full week since we had let them know about the roach issue. To be transparent, due to the issues we were having with our AC and the extreme stress from the roach infestation I did ask for some kind of compensation, to which the man I was speaking with said he'd talk to his wife - I never heard anything back regarding this, even after following back up after the trip was over. I really don't like writing reviews like this, I understand that these kinds of reviews affect the owners of the condo, however I do believe that waiting so long for something to be done about the roaches and not being kept apprised of the status of a solution is extremely unacceptable and unprofessional in this situation.  In all honesty, if Maui wasn't all the way booked up we would have most likely checked out of this place due to the roaches, it was that bad.  RENTER BEWARE!

If I could give this place a 0 star I would. We stayed here May 27-Jun 2 at Kauhale Makai by Maui Condo and Home. Im writing this to warn everyone how disgusting this place can be. We walked in the 1st day, the receptionist was very nice and very informative with where to find our room, the code and pool. That's about the last positive thing I can say about this place. Our room smelled like an old grandparent's place where they havnt cleaned in months. It just smelled "OLD" and dusty. Every counter, every surface was so dusty. ITS LIKE THIS PLACE WAS NOT TOUCHED IN YEARS. The A/C vent was full of molds and apliances were ones you would find in the 1980s, like old vacuums and old blender. They had a VCR and a DVD player. That's cool and retro and not up to date. Our child played in the curtains for just one second and he was full of dust when he came out. I swiped my hand over the curtains and had dust on my fingers. There is someone's hair left on the certain of the shower. After complaining to the manager. They agreed to cleaning up the place. But not until the next day. So we had to sleep in this dusty old looking place over night before they addressed the problem. The next morning, two people came and started cleaning up the place. They did removed the old smell by straying disinfectant everywhere and wiping the surfaces and sweeping the porch, but the dust was still there. I pointed out the dirty A/C vent and they said its mold and they couldn't do anything about it. WOW. UNBELIEVABLE. That's how you treat your guest. What is funny was that their ad shows they do enhance cleaning. Ya....right enhance cleaning After complaining to management again. He offered to give us a refund for the remaining days or deep clean the room, which would take two days. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE READY BEFORE WE ARRIVE. But the problems was, its hard to find a descent place at a good price in MAUI that day. It was too stressful and too much of a hassle to go through that and we already spent a lot on this trip. We sucked it up and stayed the rest of the time in this place. But that does mean this place does suck. I will no longer consider staying at hotels and motels. Ill be going pure AirBnB from now on.

Got upgraded to ocean view room from 205. 205 has either a mold problem in the carpet or something funky is going on. We were moved to 4th floor and what a big difference! It was big, spacious, tile floors, huge bedroom and awesome lanai. Nice, quiet relaxing condo. Thank you for an awesome stay!

We had so much fun in this condo!! (122) absolutely comfortable home with all the ammenities we could ask for. Look around your whole condo to find all the gear you might think of- its bound to be there. Walkable distance from the nearest town with all you might need too. Mahalo KM

Upon entering the lobby, the staff greeted us and we found them friendly and professional. We received refreshing face towels, aluminum water bottles and digital wrist bands upon check-in to the new Kai Tower. The lobby in the Kai Tower had a water machine to fill our bottles. We loved using it upon leaving for our day's adventure and again when returning to our room. We found our room to be spacious and clean. A large seating area ran along the wall across from the bed with many large drawers underneath. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning worked perfectly. We found the room sufficiently quiet and slept peacefully. The bar and pool areas were very nice and had a fun vibe with live music every night. If you like a hotel with a local feel, with close access to beaches and excellent local dining and shopping, I highly recommend Maui Coast Hotel.

Adequate ventilation and air conditioning, good assortment of cardio, weight machines, Smith machine, and free weights. Laundry room, including detergent and dryer sheets, are free to use. Three washers and three dryers available. There is a 1.5 mile ocean view path that connects the resorts, Shops at Wailea, and public beaches. Lots of people walking and running it. Lots of kids. There is an adults only pool in front of the spa, but it's not consistently heated and no ocean views. Free mineral sunblock at every towel station (SPF 30 and 50). We came after a big storm, and none of the water activities were available due to County brown water advisory. The rest of the resort fee activities were a nice add-on (e.g. smores at sunset, ukulele lessons, bingo, photography session). Cocktails were not great. Stick to the beer and wine. Breakfast buffet was good enough, but inconsistent and nothing exciting. Veggie fried rice was really good the first day, but lacked flavor the next day. Longans were a nice touch, but wasn't available every day (and no other specialty fruit replacement out of the ordinary selection). Ohana room (transition lounge) is available if you have a later flight and want to stay on property after checkout time of 11AM. Clean and has all the amenities needed to freshen up before a late flight. Includes a bathing suit spinner to dry it out for packing. All in all, they have everything you need for a Maui vacay.

In comparison to some other brands such as Aman, Four Seasons Maui felt below average given its price point. The resort itself felt small and a bit old. The service felt very below average and inconsistent. One employee would tell you the sun umbrellas at the pools near the bushes are not adjustable while literally 2 mins later another employee came and adjusted the sun umbrella next to me and also mine when I asked. When we went to the adult pool we were told by one employee that we needed to be on a waitlist. After 3 hours when we finally got notified that it was our turn and went back we noticed other guests just literally went and grabbed empty benches and staffs were just setting the benches up for them(no, they didn't even know there was a waitlist)... Our canoe experience at the last day of our stay got canceled due to high wind and the concierge never notified us etc. Many employees gave me the vibe that they don't really care. They just gave me fake smiles and robotic responses. Maybe Amond would take better care of us...if he is still alive... The view was very amazing. We even spotted whales many times.

Our room was clean, comfortable, and very nice, and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and hardworking. We explored many other hotels while we were on Maui, and honestly, none of them compared to Grand Wailea. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, expansive, and classic. I don't agree with the reviews saying it feels run down. It isn't ultra-modern, but it has a grand, timeless, classic resort feel. The beach out front is amazing. We explored a lot of beaches on Maui, and I never found one I liked better than the beach at Grand Wailea. The resort itself also feels unmatched in size and beauty. No other hotel we saw had the same expansive grounds, pools, landscaping, and overall resort feel. That said, the biggest downside was how much everything felt overpriced. I understand Maui and luxury resorts are expensive, but Grand Wailea sometimes felt like it was nickel-and-diming guests. Valet parking is $75 per day, and when you add in tipping every time you retrieve a rental car, it gets frustrating fast. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, valet was also very slow. One night we waited over 25 minutes. The valet staff were clearly working hard, but they seemed understaffed for the volume of guests. The food pricing was also hard to justify. At the marketplace/counter-service options, we saw coffee for $7.50, hot dogs for $26, hamburgers for $32, and 12-inch pizzas around $30. You also often have to wait in a long line, and if one person is making coffee drinks, it slows the entire line down. Olivine looks beautiful, but the prices were extremely high, including a personal sausage pizza for $38. Considering the mixed reviews, we could not justify eating there. While we were there for over a week, the resort restaurants looked quite empty every day. I truly think if the restaurant prices were even 30% lower, many more guests would stay on property to eat instead of walking across the street to places like Manoli's or Island Gourmet. The pool area was beautiful, and we appreciated little touches like seeing free pineapple passed out at the pool one day. The idea was nice, although the execution could have been better since the server was putting wet pineapple chunks directly into people's hands. We also wish the waterslides stayed open later, especially for families. Grand Wailea does offer free Nespresso coffee in the room, which is nice, but after seeing one too many social media videos about people misusing hotel coffee makers, I personally can't bring myself to use in-room hotel coffee machines anymore. One extra service I would gladly pay for is a paid hospitality suite or shower room option for guests with late flights. So many flights out of Hawaii leave late at night, and after checking out in the morning, it would be incredibly helpful to have a clean, comfortable place to shower and freshen up before heading to the airport. Overall, we loved Grand Wailea and would absolutely recommend it. The staff, room, beach, pools, and grounds were wonderful. I don't understand all the bad reviews because our experience was very positive. The resort is beautiful and memorable. My only real complaint is that the food, coffee, parking, and extras are priced so high that it pushes guests away from spending money on property. Full restaurants would be more profitable than beautiful restaurants sitting empty.

Some days it was cleaned very well in the morning but when it was done in the afternoon, it wasn't clean well. The bathroom was large and luxurious and supplied with really nice Le Labo soaps, shampoos and lotions. In addition, the property is immaculate and the public spaces are beautiful. There are three attractive pools -- one of which is adult only and there's a beach with attended lounge chairs at the bottom edge of the property. Our stay included the breakfast buffet, which had a wide assortment of choices that were nicely prepared. A downside of the hotel is that they host a number of corporate events and it can sometimes feel a bit crowded. Many mornings during our stay, there was a good size line at the host's station to be seated for breakfast. And once we were seated, navigating the buffet stations was a bit hectic. Similarly, the lounge chairs on the beach are within inches of each other. When sitting on your lanai, the music from one corporate cocktail event or another provides the soundtrack for the evenings. And one final nit -- the Nespresso capsules in the room were very nice, but the coffee served at breakfast was abysmal. So don't get me wrong. This is a very nice place and we had an enjoyable stay. But if you're sensitive to having your own space most of the time, this might not work for you.
