A beautiful historic cafe right by the river! I think it's open morning until night but I went late in the evening which was a fun experience- it was still lively and I enjoyed the live music. I got the hot chocolate with cream and a Likerová špička (a Czech dessert - chocolaty). Everything was rich and delicious!

What a beautiful historic cafe to enjoy a meal or dessert/coffee at. It's been open since 1880s and over the years they have kept upgrading the style and architecture. We went there at night after dinner. They are open until midnight. We wanted some good desserts. This place did the disappoint. At night, there was a sign sit anywhere and the waitstaff will be with you. It did take them awhile to get to us, but very nice and friendly service. We ordered two scoops of ice cream and assortment of mini pastries to share. Everything was decadent in taste. Sad we had ate our dinner prior, because I would like to eat a meal here next time while visiting Prague. Ambience was very nice with many people dressed up since the opera house is right beside it, I'm assuming many people come before or after to this café. The Pianist was excellent with the music and we enjoyed this place a lot. A cafe worth visiting.~

I tried the cocktail using Becherovka, which was made in Czech. It was a little bit bitter but the scent of herb was great. The punch slavia also contained liquor. The piano performance was also great. The person who served me was polite and professional.

Came in for dessert after dinner, what a fantastic place to people watch. The view thru the big windows overlooking the river was magnificent. The palacinky was delicious as well. Perfect way to end an evening.

Located along the Vltava River, and across from the National Theatre, this café opened in August 1884. Originally designed with Art Nouveau finishings common throughout Prague at the time, more recently it has been updated in the Art Deco style. The café definitely feels like a time capsule in regards to decor and ambiance. Live piano also sets the mood. My sister got the pork tenderloin schnitzel which was advertised as "roasted in almonds" but was rather crusted in almonds and fried. It was super crispy and delicious though. The potato salad was made with small cubed potatoes, apple, carrots, peas, whole grain mustard, and mayo. Overall the bites I tried were really tasty. My roast duck was also good, tender, and tasty but the plate was somewhat greasy from the duck skin and fried onions. The contrast from the sweet and sour red cabbage and tender potato dumplings was really nice with the juicy duck and crispy onions. Overall I liked it but wish it was a tad less greasy. It just steeped into everything on the plate that wasn't greasy to begin with, like the cabbage. This was a classic Czech dish, and the flavors were great so I'm glad I tried it. I demanded apple strudel at least once on this trip, and really enjoyed the version here. The dough is a bit softer and less flaky than the German variety of strudel, but the filling is nice, not too sweet, studded with raisins, and served warm. Vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream accompany the strudel which is dusted with powdered sugar and sprinkled with chopped nuts. It was not too sweet or rich, a nice dessert to share after a slightly heavy dinner on both counts. Overall this was a good meal, but nowhere near our favorite of the trip. It was convenient for a dinner before heading to the opera next door, but I doubt I would seek it out otherwise.

This as part of a food tour I did in Prague, the restaurant is across from the opera house. It is a huge place were people enjoy dessert, coffee and drinks before or after opera. They do serve food, but is mainly known for desserts. The dessert portions are huge so you may want to share. Here I have also tried what is called absent, a very strong liquor that they light on fire for a little bit to remove some of the alcohol.

Having heard rave reviews about this place, we decided to stop by this restaurant to celebrate our birthday lunch! Yes, it is my friend's birthday and mine, together on the same day! We toured Prague Castle earlier in the morning and having exhausted our store of energy, we needed some good food. Verdict: * Beef steak (Medium well) - what can I say, the steak if really good! Juicy and tender at the same time, I took my own sweet time savouring every bite! * Pork belly gnocchi - the pork belly was very tender but the portion of gnocchi can be a tad too much. Might get too full after a while. * Chicken steak - very tender and smooth, the marinate of the chicken pairs very well with the side dish of steamed vegetables. * Mango smoothie - delicious, smooth and just the right balance between fruit juice, milk and yoghurt. We almost ordered a second round! In all, we had a fabulous two-hour lunch at this lovely restaurant! Cheers! Will be back again when I am in Prague! Tips: choose a non-smoking section as the smoke can be quite disturbing even when in an indoor, air-conditioned area. The waitress can be stuck up or good, depending on your luck, but the men waiters are generally much nicer when taking your orders.

Kavárna Slavia is a open air cafe near the main water-way. It's a touristy Czech cafe that sells your typical dishes and beers. Service is a bit slow, which was surprising since it was only 1/3 full, but friendly. Price point is above average given the touristy area and view. The venue is very pretty, as you can see the river from your seats; also at the time, they had live music from a grand piano, which was enjoyable. They charge me for water when I asked for tap water. I've seen this happen several times in other Czech restaurants. However, I was a bit annoyed they didn't tell me that it was chargable when I asked for tap, which implies no charge, because I would have ordered a beer. Ordered: 1/4 a chicken + potatoes + cabbage + potato dumplings - A decent dish. Tasted like what i expected. Large portion. Pretty average.

I don't care if you think it's touristy, it's good. Got out of the theater after seeing an opera and it's right across the street, the staff are nice and helpful, service was prompt even though I was alone and they were filling up. I often find people are willing to serve two before they serve someone solo. They served full meals still, although I only had a cheese plate, wine and then the house apple strudel. Everything was good, I never felt rushed, and even when it was nearing the end of the night they offered to serve me anything else I would like, coffee? Tea? I recommend this spot to anyone passing through who wants an enjoyable le experience.

Had to try out this famous cafe at least one time while living in Prague. I must say upon walking in you can easily see the draw to the place-the view. And pretty much only the view. I sat near a window on a busy Sunday afternoon. The nonsmoking section here is a joke because they are connected. Really hate that sometimes Prague is still living in ancient times with this. I ordered a cappuccino and their gnocchi with spinach and cream sauce. The cappuccino was normal, and small but it was only 48 crowns after all! The gnocchi itself was nice, soft and creamy. The spinach inside it though was a little chewy for the dish . Service is sparse and a bit disorganized for my taste, but nonetheless I got my order, promptly and it was correct. Not sure I would come back here since I wasn't blown away but I think it's great to come for the experience of being in the famous cafe. Plus the view is just great- not many places have a great view here from this angle.

I invited my new colleague to share in the ambiance of Slavia because my husband and I enjoy...*ahem*...enjoyed...this cafe so much. He was quite a fine server to begin with, but two things really irritated me: when the bill came, I had been charged for 2 whole bottles of sparkling water when it was only one was ordered. My colleague had ordered an apple juice with a splash of sparkling water, about the amount you receive if you order an espresso. He insisted that this is what the extra water charge was for. It's unreasonable to suggest that an entire bottle of sparkling water fit into a glass half the size of said bottle AND included a full order of apple juice, both of which we were charged full price for, but certainly didn't receive in full! This was really a sneaky attempt at trying to make a higher bill. The second matter is when I paid, he said, "service is not included...but you know, you can decide for yourself". I thought this was in very poor taste. It's degrading and a second-rate attitude for such a classic and stylish cafe. There is a line of etiquette you shouldn't cross... and he certainly crossed it. I hope the servers and management at Slavia consider how they treat their (especially repeat) customers... whether they are native Czech or not. From their many reviews online, it would appear they need a wake-up call because a lot of locals, like myself, are very dissatisfied with the rude and cheeky service.

It'd be a crime if I came to Prague and didn't visit the oh so famous Cafe Slavia. Anyways, I came here around lunch time and the place had more than enough empty seats. I liked that they had a nonsmoking and smoking section so I quickly seated myself in the nonsmoking section. I ordered the beef sirloin tartare with asparagus (one of their specials on their seasonal asparagus menu), a forest fruit cheesecake, and a latte macchiato. The total price came out to be 346 kc which is not bad given the fact that I had a tartare and everything. The tartare was delicious and a HUGE portion. It came with garlic bread which was extremely yummy and just all in all a great dish. The cheesecake was also a huge portion and tasted pretty decent. Overall I would say that though the price was high for lunch, I got huge portions so that definitely made it worth it. Great ambiance, waiters and waitresses are very attentive to needs. tldr; great experience, clearly a must-go for the history rather than the food, but nonetheless, the meal was still delicious!

Cafe is located in one of those old small Lesser town houses. It has a cool decoration. Staff is friendly and very nice but communication among them is bad and they are slow. One waiter takes an order and it takes ages to the other one to bring it and when he brings it so there is something missing (like one coffee). The same with meals. One meal was supposed to be ham and egges omelette and they brought ham and eggs. It was good though. Meals are definitely worth stopping by. Menu is not long. They have only few sandwiches, salads and pancakes plus one soup and burger. And breakfast menu (it´s that cursed ham and eggs). But all these items are pretty delicious. Especially burger surprised me. It was huge (it could be actually smaller), pretty good (cheddar was missing) and pretty cheap considering the location. But I didn´t actually expect a good burger here (I was just curious when I ordered it) and voila. Surprise, surprise. Otherwise I also recommend salmon sandwich and dill soup. It was a nice experience to visit this place but I don´t think I will return.
