Did an early-ish meeting (10am lol) on a fine Saturday morning here. I just felt like getting a crepe and found the place to be very comfortable - especially since we were the only ones there. The menu for crepes was extensive and cute. I liked the different creative names. We ordered the southern comfort and a third wheel, along with two coffees. The service was quick and friendly. They served the crepe in a metal stand. The first bite was crisp and definitely comparable to my all time favourite in Burnaby, BC. I had an ice cream on top of the third wheel (which was Nutella, peanut butter and bananas). Not breakfast material I know but absolutely delicious. I almost wished the crepe was on a plate so that it wasn't as messy (ice cream and crepe bits were falling) but loved it nonetheless! Will be back for sure. This franchise is aesthetically pleasing and caters to vegans as well! I may not be a vegan, but it's nice to see more dessert places catering to their needs. They were open pretty late so you can definitely satisfy your cravings from savoury to sweet! I want to highlight how kind the staff was and their precautions towards allergies. My boyfriend is allergic to all nuts, so during the process of making our crepe they used new kitchen tools to ensure it did not touch any nuts prior. Me and the boyfriend decided to go on a late night dessert run, and thankfully Kawaii crepes was open! This branch is on a relatively busy street with shops which was nice. During COVID they are only allowing take out - so although we weren't able to enjoy the crepe piping hot, we were able to bring it home to try it. We ended up getting the Sweet Tooth flavor which came with nutella, whipped cream, ice cream and a fruit. Unfortunately they ran out of strawberries so we got it with bananas. Well, finally tried this place. I'm used to these cute places popping up in my hometown of Toronto, so going here was more of revisiting food that I can get from Toronto, but with a Winnipeg twist. If you haven't eaten Japanese crepes, definitely give it a try. There's lots of different varieties, and depending on what you order there are savoury and sweet options, so you can have it as a meal or dessert. Since I came for lunch, I had The Osborne Branch, one of the savoury options in the menu. I also had one of the bubble teas which I forgot the flavour. The crepes are actually very good! I wish I could've taken a better photo of the crepe though, as the toppings were way too far in the crepe. Perhaps the crepe to ingredients ratio can be improved. The bubble tea was also not bad, definitely one of the better ones in Winnipeg. Tables are a bit dirty here as the place gets quite busy, but otherwise I will definitely return. read more

My friend got the Big Feast, which was filled with pulled pork, while I got the Cheesecake Crepe ($7.95). Their website cites that "Japanese crepes are slightly thinner, a little bit crispier and easier to hold than their French friends." We both found the crepe to be a bit underdone, as it was pretty flimsy and already broken before eating. I don't think was due to the crepe getting soggy from the fillings. We weren't able to hold our crepes, and instead, we asked for a plate and ate it with a knife and fork. My friend didn't like the pulled pork, but I thought it was decent and the sauce was sweet. The Cheesecake Crepe was pretty light, and despite the imperfections in the crepe, was satisfying. Not sure if I'd give them another try, but it's worth checking out if you're looking for dessert in the area. read more

Ok people, there isn't much I say go to Winnipeg for (other than a Jets game), but, this gem of a place is one of those places where if you ever find yourself in the Peg, get your ass here and get ready for a party in your mouth. I'll set the scene, skip this paragraph if you don't care. A whole day at Winnipeg Stadium leads us to wanting, no needing, something sweet, refreshing, and totally not stadium food. We need fresh, we need savory, we need sweet, and we want to feel like pigs after. Well, this place is all of the above and then some. Walk in, the menu will be on your right reading from savory to sweet. I have no idea why I thought we'd need 3 of these between the two of us, but, I did. Savory: The Uptown (pay homage to Minnesota, yeah buddy) - Seasoned chicken, avocado and housemade citrus chipotle mayo and lettuce inside a crepe. Sweet: Fruitella - Nutella and bananas. Sweet 2: Cheesecake Crepe - Lemon cream cheese filling, mixed berry coulis, more bananas and graham wafers. Get a number, sit in anticipation. I mean, you see those nature shows where an old Wildebeest is on it's last legs and a pride of lions are just to attack. That is the kind of anticipation we had for our number to be called. The people next to us were lucky they ordered after us, or I might have stole theirs. Then, "number 218". I hurdle chairs and stiff arm kids to get to the counter. Lets go through this so I can relive this, I'll try not to cry... The uptowner: Oh my god. Yeah, that good. The crepe itself is perfectly sweet, the chicken is amazingly juicy and tender, and that mayo with avacado is the refreshing kick on the palate that would make me fight a bear for this thing. It's incredible to the last bite. The fruitella: truth be told, the woman would only let me have two bites because I threatened to not give it back after the second. Those two bites were incredible. Chocolate, with the sweetness of the crepe and the fresh bananas, just amazing. The cheesecake: Hold on a sec, need a moment to gather myself. *Deep breath* ok, it's one of the best things you can eat in Winnipeg. So amazingly perfect with a crazy flavor spectrum. Ctirusy from the lemon cream cheese, the berries give it a tarty sweetness, the bananas hit you with that sweet fruity flavor, the grahams then give you a different sweetness and a new texture, and oh yeah, the crepe itself is another sweet flavor! It's a messy on, get some napkins, put a bib on, huddle yourself in the corner and wreck this thing! Ok. Plus the service is awesome at the front desk and the location offers great people watching on Osborne (which is like Lyndale in Uptown Minneapolis). Only place I'd say you HAVE to go to, especially if you need sweets or savory, or anything. read more

Love it! I've never had a bad experience. Lots of variety, options for most palettes, and a cute atmosphere. I prefer the savory to the sweet crepes, mainly because I feel they get a nice mix of flavor while the sweet crepes are a lot of one thing which can get kind of yucky near the end. Pump up The Yam and Ninja are my faves, but if you don't like any of their options you can create your own! They have crusts available in multigrain and gluten free as well as vegan, so if you bring a group everyone should be able to find something. Super kickin' bubble tea as well! I haven't been back since they first opened in late 2009 because really, I'm not a huge fan of crepes. And I remember not really liking the thick sweet crepe that I had with my savoury crepe. I know the Japanese crepes are thicker and sweeter than the French kind. But really wanted this place to make separate crepe batters for sweet and savoury items. Not sure when they made the change, but the crepe batter today was definitely way thinner and less sweet than the one I remember. The crepe tasted way better and less heavy so I was happy with that. I had the "uptown crepe" ($7.50) which has chicken, avocado and a citrus mayo. I liked this one though I felt the citrus was a bit overpowering but overall a good light summery crepe. My bf had the "hot chick" ($5.95) which was a veggie crepe with sweet potatoes and chickpeas - he really liked the blend of spices in there. The lemonade ($2.95) is freshly squeezed though way too tart for me but my bf really liked it. They now serve a multigrain crepe for an extra $1.50, which seems like a pricey add on considering that most places wouldn't charge you more for order whole grain bread vs white bread. Anyways, none were available the day we were there so I didn't get to try it but my bf said the multigrain crepe is pretty good so I'll take his word for it. Service is not the fastest there and the staff don't seem to reflect the cheery whimsical feel of the restaurant unfortunately. Here are four things I like about KAWAII CREPE! 1) Super friendly staff always... you just want to stand there and chat with them, but you don't because that's bad form and they are busy and want to make your delicious crepe quickly ! Had a fantastic lunch here with my dad! I had a Farmer's Market Crepe on whole wheat and my dad had a Southern Comfort Crepe, also on whole wheat. They were filled to the brim and definitely tasty. It was awesome to see the fresh ingredients being used and the crepe being made right in front of us. Would return. The only thing from keeping it from being a 5 was how heavy the crepe was. LOVE Kawaii. Whenever my friends come back home for the holidays from school we always make sure we go here together. These are the best and the most fresh crepes I have had outside of Paris. The decor is playful and you order at the counter and wait for your number to be called at a table. They have savory and sweet crepes, whatever you are in the mood for. Their combinations are well thought out or you could make your own. Their fresh squeezed lemonade is delicious! They are really filling so I've never been able to have more than one at a time. They also have free wifi so it's a nice alternative to work there if you are sick of Starbucks. The only draw back is if you go in during a busy period like lunch time, you could be waiting awhile for your food. They only have four heating irons to make the crepes and it can get backed up. read more

This place is amazing! My husband and I were brought here by some friends who live in Winnipeg, and we liked it so much we went back the next day for more crepe goodness! Kawaii Crepe offers a huge selection of savoury and sweet Japanese style crepes. They have a separate batter for each crepe, which is a huge plus! Not every creperie does that. Each crepe comes folded in a cardboard sleeve, perfect for eating on the go or enjoying in the restaurant. When you enter the restaurant, the menu is posted on the wall to the right. Each crepe costs between roughly $8-11. The gluten-free and vegan options are also clearly labelled. Once you know what you want to order, you go to the cashier at the right side of the counter, and they'll give you a number. The crepes are made ready-to-order and take approximately 5 minutes to make (depending on how busy they are). Since we went twice (and was able to steal bites from my husband's crepes), I was able to try four different kinds: The Hot Chick - the curried sweet potato and chickpea puree are quite tasty, and it definitely packs a little bit of heat. I believe this is the cheapest crepe on the savoury menu, but it will definitely make you full. The Uptown - you can never go wrong with chicken and avocado. The citrus chipolte mayo ties it all together nicely. It's-a-Smore - the marshmallow cream is really sweet, but I loved the chocolate and literal chunks of graham cracker. Definitely fixed my smore craving. Sweet Tooth - the quintessential sweet crepe. The mix of ice cream, nutella, and strawberry make this a fantastic dessert. My boyfriend and I went here on a trip to winnipeg for our anniversary. We went there twice during our three-day stay (it was close to our hotel). The first time we went, we got savory crepes. I got the Uptowner (?) which had avocado and chicken, and my bo got... something with bacon and chicken. Mine was ok-- it felt like it was missing something and i didn't like the crepe to crepe filling ratio. He really liked his and ended up eating the last bit of mine. The second time we went here, we shared the sweet tooth (?). It had strawberries, nutella, ice cream, and chocolate syrup. it was AMAZING. By far the best crepe either of us had had. We ate it within minutes and debated going back in to get another. Stray observation: both times we went in, just about everyone working seemed to be really unfriendly. Just had two crepes and one bite of another. Had the Popeye which was a vegetarian crepe, only had Spinach, Feta and Pesto. Very good taste, even if it didn't have any meat. The crepe itself was thicker than what I would normally expect but it was very crunchy which I actually liked, sort of like eating a soft barquillio. To finish it off I had the Cheesecake crepe. Unfortunately it didn't taste as good as the Popeye crepe. I probably won't order this again as it was a bit heavy, almost like eating Bavarian creme donuts. I had a bite of the Chicken Avocado and Citrus Mango Dressing crepe from my wife. Wasn't too bad, though I liked the Popeye's more in comparison. Their drink left much to be desired. We got a guava bubble tea. I am thirstier after drinking it than before and it wasn't refreshing. It felt like drinking dehydrated simulated guava flavoring in powder form with ice and tapioca and twice the amount of sugar. Kawaii has gluten-free crepes now! But only on the weekends. What's with that? The GF crepe is sweeter than the regular (I'm told) but is delicious. I wouldn't risk eating it if you are celiac or extremely sensitive to gluten contamination, though. The staff seems kind of unclear on what gluten-free actually is. Sometimes, when they've been out of GF batter, they've offered me a multigrain crepe instead. That's not how it works, folks! This place is fantastic! The options are endless and so tasty. I can personally recommend the 'sweet-tooth' if you're looking for something delicious and very filling. Its a delicious crepe filled with a layer of nuttella, ice cream, whipped cream and your choice of fruit. I chose strawberries. So good! They wrap it up like an ice cream cone. Its pretty messy to eat so its not something you can eat while walking and definitely not a place a girl wants to go on a first date ;). Eating strategy: use a spoon initially...give up on being "proper" and just bite into it. If you've just had dinner and are looking for something light and tasty, I would recommend the milky way. Its a crepe with a layer of nutella (or peanut butter) drizzled with condensed milk. Sounds simple but its delicious! Definitely first date friendly ;) The only thing is the place is a bit untidy. This place serves up deliciously thin, crispy, and light crepes. You can make your own crepe with your choice of ingredients or choose from the menu. I love the food here and never had any experience with ingredients running out like some reviewers have mentioned. They do tend to pack on the Nutella in crepes that come with Nutella so if you don't like that then ask them to be light on the Nutella. The only thing I have to say is that seating is very limited and that the employees do not make cleaning the tables a priority. Every time I buy my crepe I go clean out a table my self, and then sit at the now free-of-garbage but still stained table. Trust me, nothing kills your appetite more than eating at a dirty table. They also offer free wifi here so this is where I would go instead of Starbucks to eat, sit, lounge, and study. read more

I often come here alot and I love the crepes! My first crepe from here was the strawberry fruitella and my friends didn't recommend it to me at first because they didn't like it, but I took my chances and i love it! Its my go to craving when i want strwberries and chocolate together. I wasn't a fan of the savoury crepes because to me crepes are like a dessert thing and having chicken or veggies didn't sit well with me. When you take a bite it starts off crispy and then it gets softer as you eat your way down to the very bottom. It does tend to get a bit messy but that's why napkins exist. it does tend to get a bit crowded during the evenings and it's hard to find a seat especially if there's a group of you and your friends. I try to come during the afternoon (not during the lunch rush) on the weekdays where it tends to be dead. The drinks were yummy. I loved the chocolate temptation drink and their bubble teas are so good! If you love crepes and bubble tea, i recommend getting your butt there to try it! I've been going to Kawaii Crepe for a couple years now, and it remains to be my favourite restaurant. The crepes are delicious and there is so much variety! I can't even pick a favourite because they are all so good and there is one to suit my every mood and desire.
