Sushi in Revelstoke?! Hmmm, this could be a good or bad decision! But I as so happy that we decided to make reservations here. Their sashimi was perfectly cut and fresh. They did not have ahi, only albacore, but they did have toro! Yes, please! Their rolls are reasonably priced for the size. Their house rolls are cheaper because they are only stuffed inside, the other rolls are more expensive because they are stuffed as well was topped with extra stuff. We came here in a Saturday night, so that probably affected the wait time for food. But the wait time for food would be my only complaint with this place and the food quality and taste certainly made up for it. I highly recommend eating here and I will definitely be back. read more

It was surprisingly good. I don't mean it in a negative way, but someone at the Ramada down the road recommended this place and said it was the best Japanese food he's had. Revelstoke is landlocked, and being from the West Coast, we've had our share of good Japanese food. But to our surprise, the food was very good and the service even better. We didn't make a reservation and just walked up. They had a table available for about an hour before their reservation showed up, so we took it. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly, accommodating, and patient with our vegetarian orders. My kids really enjoyed the food, and they actually requested to go back tomorrow. Thanks Yelpers - I would have never tried out this little gem if it wasn't for you guys! Kawakubo gets 5 stars from me because the food is well-executed (rolls are the right size and don't fall apart, rice is the proper texture), fish is fresh and tasty (I can't remember the exact name but I think they use sockeye salmon - bright reddish-orange-pink), and the service was great (a few different waitresses stepping in to make sure we had enough water, wasabi, or to take drink orders). Every roll we had was excellent (and there were lots of choices, from classic ones to more interesting combos) - bursting with fresh fish and just the right amount of spiciness (for those that were spicy tuna/salmon). They have a great sashimi combo - half the order is salmon, half is tuna (I think 5 pieces each), plus an extra two pieces of your choice (I chose scallops - yum). It's brilliant because that's pretty much what I always want and so I didn't have to order several individual orders of sashimi. Honestly, as others mentioned, it's surprising to find such a good Japanese restaurant nestled in the mountains - but I sure am glad I can get a decent sushi fix the next time I'm skiing! It is on the expensive side but totally worth it for the freshness. Definitely make a reservation though - we were there on a Monday evening at 7pm and it was packed, with more people waiting to get in by the time we left at 8:30pm. read more

The owner and chef are from Japan and they do not sacrifice quality. They also use fresh fish and have enough turn over for their menu. This is the best sushi in Revelstoke. And it's great sushi in general. High quality fish and rice. The rolls are crafted with care. Food is presented artfully and at the correct temperature. Just be warned that the food is a bit pricey compared with Vancouver - our total bill is about 30% higher than what we'd normally spend on sushi in Vancouver. This is due to charging for tea ($5 for a large pot), and a higher price for most items (ie. $3.50 for miso soup vs. $1.50 in Vancouver). This was recommended by my boyfriend's co-worker said it's the best sushi place in Revelstoke and I must say that We agree. We went there just right when they opened and we were greeted by the hostess/server right away and lead us to our seats. Atmosphere was great! Menu was very straight forward, of course they have some of the classics like any other sushi place would have. After our server has taken our orders, she then asked if any of us have allergies and we told her that I'm allergic to shellfish. It is ironic that I love sushi but I'm allergic to some seafood. /: but of course I had to order the ones I can eat. Waiting time wasn't too shabby. Out of all the sushi place that my boyfriend and I have been to, they were the only ones who asked if any of us have allergies and I was pleased but at the same time, I somehow regret that I told her I'm allergic to shellfish. Because overtime, she would come up to our table to let us know or warn us about how they will be making the food, or where their going to fry it and all sorts of stuff that might contaminate my food with shellfish. I appreciate her being protective and that she worries :) it was actually pretty cute how she reacted when I tried eating the deep fried chicken, she freaked out! She said that they didn't changed the oil where they deep fried the chicken and the other seafoods but I was fine, I am always aware of what I will be eating and I was careful! All, I was able to eat except the Naruto roll because it has crab meat in it. But that was for my boyfriend he loves seafood! Needed something for lunch that wasn't fast food road snacks so using my trusty yelp app we decided to try this place out. We were seated quickly and the menu was good. Lunch specials for good prices and lots of selection. I chose the $14 lunch special to share with my 4 year old and there was a huge amount of food. We had a salad, a wonton soup (delicious but like nothing I have ever had before) and a half order of chicken teriyaki and a California roll. We also added the assorted tempura for an additional $6. Great sushi in downtown Revelstoke. We came looking for salmon in particular, and we definitely found it, but were also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Tuna and Toro. We ordered miso, garlic edamame, the Tuna + Salmon sashimi plate with two additional pieces of Toro, as well as the Ichiban and the Red Dragon rolls. The miso was great, but the edamame had a little too much butter for my taste. The sashimi was delicious and the fish was very fresh and of great quality. The sashimi cuts were a little small and we powered through the 12 pieces of fish quite quickly. I'm glad I ordered the Toro because it was very delicious. The rolls were both great and very unique. I ordered those two specifically for the salmon on top and they both were excellent. I was a little bummed by the number of pieces that came in each roll though, as I recall they had 8 each. In summary: great food, very fresh fish, and good service. I gave this place 4 stars due to the price of the meal for the quantity of food. At the end of our meal, we felt that we should have ordered another roll but in the end decided to hold off. I wanted a little more in terms of the size of the sashimi cuts and the number of pieces in each roll for the price. Otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. read more

Everything was pretty good but the wonton soup puzzled me. It was like a hot and sour soup with wonton wrappers and a smudge of meat filling of some sort. Lots of bok choy and kale and green onions in the mix. Not quite the wonton soup I'm used to. Altogether a local favourite, high quality eats. First off, keep in mind you are in a tiny mountain town hundreds of km / miles from any city, so leave your high-end city sushi expectations in the city. That said, this place has great sushi with great service that you'll be happy you came. We had the mixed tempura which was decent, hamachi nigiri (small but good), and two rolls with a different combo: yellowtail, tuna, avocado, green onions; one had a drizzled sauce which was awesome. Nice sushi restaurant for when you're craving something besides burgers and pizza on your ski trip. We came on a Saturday during ski season around 5:30 without reservations and were seated at the bar. It seemed like many groups had called ahead to reserve tables, so I would definitely recommend doing so if you have a bigger group. FOOD: The menu includes a variety of sashimi, nigiri, hand rolls, and maki. We shared the hotate sashimi, toro sashimi, two very tasty vegetarian rolls (Summertime and Yama Maki), a chicken teriyaki roll, and a sakura roll. There are also rice bowls, tempura, and teriyaki dishes. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful and definitely hit the spot. Prices were a tad high, as its a ski resort town, but TBH not too crazy coming from the Bay Area.... AMBIENCE: Sort of a trendy sushi bistro vibe - there are some private booths as well as tables and seats at the sushi and alcohol bars. Great spot for an apres ski meal with friends. SERVICE: Service from the sushi bar was a tad slow, but it seemed like the servers were all very attentive to filling water, checking in on us, and bringing us our dishes when they were ready.
