With California Winter, heavy winds and firey pollution, I felt like my skin was at an all time dry. So I desperately searched Yelp for "facial" and found Kawehi Skin by work so I called to make an appointment and they were able to fit me in after work on a Friday night. I arrived early since you typically have to fill out a questionnaire prior to facials. Sandy, the owner, was my esthetician. My appointment was for 4:30pm but her previous client wasn't done until 4:40pm and then we chatted a bit about my options until about 4:50pm since they had no menu and their website is a bit outdated. She explained to me that Kawehi Skin is a customized experience so she usually looks at her clients' skin and then discuss the recommendations and let the customer decide how to proceed. I communicated that I would prefer a menu so I know what I am paying for, but at the same time I can tell Sandy was very caring and was being genuine about her service. I felt very conflicted since I usually like things defined. But she reassures me that the business is transitioning to new menus and they will completely revamp their services soon. So we proceed with my facial and my skin was definitely dry. We did 2 cleanses, steam, enzymes to digest the dead skin cells, a calming mask in parallel with a shoulder massage, microdermabrasion, and then moisturizing drops at the end. This was about an hour for $95. Sandy mentions that the services here aren't timed. In theory it is sweet that they take all the time they need on the client... but in practice that means they can be running late to their next appointment. For the record, the value was really fair for the services and upgrades I decided on. Also there is a sign out front that says "Credit Card transactions are subject to a 2.75% fee." I don't mind paying a fee, but I wished someone would have mentioned it prior so I could have went and got cash. And also I did not like a percent. It's fair to me if the business charge the flat rate that the bank charges them -- but I like advanced notice. I asked Sandy if a debit card counts as a credit card. To her credit, Sandy did not charge me the transition charge since it was my first visit. I'm not taking away any points for this since my fee was waived, but I feel like it is important for the business and patrons to be aware. Sandy was very sweet and I enjoyed her service. They are super close to work and the prices are fair. However I can't give them a 5 star when my appointment start time was late and the menu and prices are so undefined. I plan to come back when they have their menus up and business model revamped. I would be more than happy to give them that 5 stars when they earn it. read more

My mother in law and I were looking for a place to get a facial when we found Kawehi skin. This is a lovely, lady owned, skin care boutique located at a strip mall just east of UCIMC. Several staff were on duty so we could have our treatment simultaneously. The room I was in was cozy, clean and somewhat feminine; with draping curtains around the comfortable, padded table. I was provided a bolster which Karen placed under my knees. She had noticed my grimace when I stood earlier and knew my back hurt. The facial lasted an hour. I can't tell much about it other than three points. 1- I was coaxed into a hypnotic state. My body relaxed and mind gently observed. 2- I felt nurtured and pampered. 3- my skin feels fabulous. And those are not even counting the times I have gone back for fills or to get them done again. I paid for a Groupon awhile ago for mink lashes here. I made an appointment on a weekday. I arrived a little early and ended up waiting a little bit before being asked to be seen. Once their lash girl came and set up, she called me in. I told her I have had my lashes done many times before but it was my first time getting mink lashes. She quickly told me they were fake mink. Oh... Then I told her that I know I have short lashes and I wanted something more full for my vacation out in the Caribbeans. So then she started to work on my lashes. I got annoyed because she kept talking crap on my current lashes saying how short they were and they were very tiny. Girl, I already told you that and I'm not new to this. Good way to bash your clients. Saying it once or twice is cool but repeatedly got annoying, especially how I had already started off saying that in the first place. It was like she was trying to validate something. She also didn't want me to talk to her, which I was pretty much fine with though. So when she was done, it didn't look full like the other 82374283 places I had gone too. I also asked for thick long extensions and even told I'm comfortable wearing make up and I wasn't scare of them being extra. Well they turned out looking not full at all, not very long, and not very thick. So no, it wasn't what I wanted and I wasn't satisfied. First time EVER I was not happy with my lashes. Found this gem through Groupon. On my first 2 visits I had Karen do my facial. She was nice and thorough but I didn't really fall in love. I went to other places after, and still wasn't in love with any place or esthetician. After reading more of the reviews for Kawehi, other Yelp friends mentioned that Sandy is amazing. I decided to give this place another shot with Sandy. I am now in love with a place AND esthetician! When I first visited Sandy, my skin was a mess. I was taking birth control pills that didn't help, the weather was ick, and the products I was using were also ick. Now that I have been coming to Sandy, my face has changed for the better! I am also using better products but the facials also help a great deal! She has even said that my skin has gotten so so so much better! She knows what to do and I trust her enough at this point to let her do what she wants with my skin. She is also open to hearing my concerns and will ask me every time how the previous visit was and how my skin reacted to the last facial. She is very patient! I don't think I know too many people as patient as her. I also really like that she will tell you exactly what she is doing next, what the product is and the ingredients and how it can benefit your skin. She is extremely thorough and very gentle! Our conversations are also very fun and it makes time go by quicker when she is doing extractions. Besides the extractions she sometimes has to do, the facials are very relaxing. She will ask multiple times if I am okay and comfy. It's been pretty cold lately so she will turn on the bed heater and it is so relaxing, love it! When I first started seeing Sandy, I would come every other week. But my skin is pretty balanced now so I come once a month. Prices are very reasonable too. There is no fixed price, it is based on what kind of facial she does that day. My facials are always customized so prices always vary for me. But her prices are extremely fair. I tried this place b/c of great reviews & yelp 1/2 off special for the royal 3x facial. It is a clean, cute place as others have suggested w/just a few rooms. Karen led me to one of these rooms, and as soon as she closed the door she asked, "you know it's $125?" I was shocked & had it not taken me so long to make & keep that appt. I would've just walked right out. Who does that? Prices are clearly listed so I guess she thought I couldn't read or couldn't afford it. The facial was average, and because of our initial interaction I was uncomfortable with her touching me during the neck & shoulder massage. I should've listened to my intuition & left but I really wanted that facial. Btw, I still tipped her on the regular not discounted price b/c that's what is customary. I had my facial with Norma, she explained what she was doing to my face as she was doing it. Pretty interesting how the skin works. I think I fell asleep half way through it. I woke up right when she was done. My face felt great, it was soft. The best part she used products that are skin sensitive so I didn't break out. I was worried the micro (not sure what it's called but it starts with micro) would make me break out. I decided to return three months later and the results were the same. I've been here twice for my Brazilian waxes, by two different estheticians, and was definitely impressed. I've been to several wax salons and am extremely picky about it, but I would recommend Kawehi to anyone. They did a sugar wax on me and it did not hurt at all. They didn't make me feel uncomfortable and they didn't try to rush me despite how busy they always are. The staff at Kawehi are extremely friendly and welcoming. Kawehi is a little small, but it's very cute. Also, PLEASE ask an employee at Kawehi directly about any of their wax specials instead of buying from a certain coupon website. She immediately sets the mood with relaxing music, you place on a robe and headband prior to your treatment, and she takes her time with a small massage prior to starting the facial. My facial was fine, the place is cute even if it is located in the ugly part of Orange, and the owner was both pleasant and professional. I would have no problem recommending her for that service if that is what you seek. She was an extremely kind lady. The problem was the waxing which was not done by the owner. The waxer was wearing gloves about two sizes too large which I knew was trouble from the start. The glove accidentally caught on to my skin and I believe that I went into shock due to the pain that this caused, not to mention the awful waxing pain. Now, I know that accidents happen, but it seemed as if it was her first time waxing. I was left with a temporary scar on my leg from the burning glove. My leg began to experience electric pains up the side, and if this process has ever been used as torture, I was experiencing it. I can't even begin to explain what it felt like but it was truly that horrific and I have a high tolerance for pain. The waxer was apologetic but acted surprised, as if I was either crazy or a wax virgin. She told me that she'd never had a customer react that way and that most people find this "chocolate" sugaring/waxing, whatever-the-heck-she-was doing to be less painful. The problem is that I have been waxing for almost 20 years, all over North America at both high end and low end spas, and never have I received a wax as horrible as this one became. I will never forget it. The owner, Sandy, was certainly apologetic which is why I am giving her a three for her services. She even offered me another future service due to the horrible experience, even if I did not receive it. I appreciated her professionalism. I finally decided to write this review to save anyone else the grief of having a wax here. The facial was fine, as was the small shop, but I am not sure that I could ever return. Perhaps Sandy will email me to say that they have a new waxer by now, so you could inquire before visiting. My leg did heal thank goodness, but I will never forget this painful experience. read more

I had a certificate I used. I made appt with Norma to get a treatment that included Mircrodermabrasion, Microcurrent and Ultrasound. I arrived and immediately the decor and the ambiance felt so relaxing and soothing. I loved how Norma was organized and ready for my appt. I didnt have to wait and was able to go in there and enjoy my face being pampered. My Experience was absolutely Wonderful!!! I LOVED IT!!!, Norma walked me thru the steps of the treatments as she was doing them and would explain what they were doing to my skin and what the benefits they were for. She also gave me pointers for care after as a daily use. I completely felt relaxed and in good hands!! I loved this place! I found the location on Groupon and booked for a microdermabrasion facial and a Brazilian. It's easy to pass the location since the outside is unassuming, but the interior is nicely decorated and quiet. I booked a week ahead of time, but they book up fast since they're not that pricey either! I had the Brazilian with Tianna who was incredibly nice - it was my first Brazilian waxing and she chatted and joked with me while I talked (too much) to distract myself from the awkwardness of the waxing. She guided me by telling me when to take deep breaths and breathe out fast to distract myself from the pulls so it didn't hurt even close to what I had been bracing myself. I was in and out in under 20 minutes totally clean and no red bumps. Highly recommend Tianna if you are looking for a waxing :) Sandy, who did my facial, was so sweet as well. I have to find my business card from Kawehi to verify but I believe Karen did my brazilian wax. I used a groupon for the sugaring and I was a little wary because I have experience with a multitude of groupons and waxes and the results/process/experience/pain definitely rely on the technician! With that said, Karen did an amazing job with decades of experience she knows what she's doing. While she did use the sugar in an unconventional way (with the strips) the results and the process during were 5 stars. I felt little to no pain in her pulling and she made sure to clean up the entire area completely. I will definitely return where they stated they will honor the Groupon price if I return on a monthly basis. Sounds like a good deal to me especially since I've found a great waxer is like a great hairstylist (in a way they are too ha!) and you want to hold on to the ones you find. read more
