On Friday, I went to the restaurant with my husband. The food was delicious and the plates were generously sized. We sat inside, the atmosphere is very nice and they have a very extensive menu.

We ate at Kaya for the first time this weekend and we were so impressed!! We sat in the covered patio area. It is completely covered from the elements and has fans (as well as TVs in the bar area). We had 3 tapas (oysters, meatballs, and pork belly) that were all delicious as well as a Cuban sandwich from the hand held menu. This restaurant has the coolest atmosphere and amazing food. We will definitely be back!

Food was great, I had the 18oz ribeye it was delicious. The bone marrow tapa tasted so good we all enjoyed it. Service was outstanding we had no issues at all, our waiter was very attentive. Great atmosphere inside the restaurant, it is great for a date night or to take the family.

Everything was delicious, Chef hector brings innovative and well rounded flavors to the Belmont area. With craft cocktails, and well curated wine list Kaya Gastrolounge is perfect for date night, or week night tapas with friends and family. The newly renovated space, is beautiful, the atmosphere matches the food to bring a well thought out experience. The owners, general manager, and team have proven experience in service and hospitality, I am beyond elated with their new concept and can't wait to see what is to come for Kaya Gastrolounge!

The leaves of the Collard Greens were very tender and flavourful. Cornbread: Served muffin style was mild in flavour and not sweet. Was a nice addition to the Collard Greens. (Pro tip: Personally, I would return for the Collard Greens alone. There is also a Vegan menu and a Soul Food Menu. The Collard Greens are 5 Star flawless. Service is efficient. The lounge is very casual. The artwork is beautiful, but some of it is hidden behind a table as noticed in my pictures. The ambience is small, but noticed there are several pickup third-party delivery drivers collecting takeout, as well as several customer pick up orders. So the food is very popular here even when there are not many dine-in customers. Next time I might order takeout as well just for the Collard Greens. Main Course: Ordered the "whitefish" fillet for the Seafood Platter (Tilapia Filet), but received a Pink Fish maybe Salmon or Red Snapper but looks sort of like a Salmon. Was not sure. Everything is a la cart , but the portions are generous. Today I tried Krako , which isn't on the menu, but you might can ask for it. They said it's when the plantains are over ripe, they are smashed with spices and then fried . It was sooo good, though just a bit oily. Next, I decided to try their stewed goat and their signature spinach rice. The goat was unbelievably tender and the broth was so flavorful. I ended up mixing my rice Into the sauce after I'd eaten all the meat. I will definitely eat here again, I want to try their whole fried red snapper. Prices are affordable. The atmosphere was homely w/light Afro music in the background. If you have kids needing a highchair, I saw at least 1 lol so maybe bring your own chair just in case. When parties are 6 or more a 18% gratuity is included in the bill our total was $110 which for all the food we received was a pretty good deal. Everyone left full and there was still unfinished rice. The service was good, just note that they operate on Caribbean time so the food does take a little bit more time. The waitress did check in here and there, but if you needed something extra it did take time before she circled back around to our table. The place was not full when we went, but during a packed house, I imagine you will need to pack your patience. All the food was prepared fresh and was very good. The jerk chicken had just enough spice to feel it, but not overwhelm you. The stewed chicken was nice and flavorful and a good dish for someone to dip their toe into African/Caribbean cuisine. The jollof rice was very tasty preferred this over their rice and beans a nice little smoky flavor very well sliced. The oxtail was flavorful and melt off the bone. Plantains they served were the sweet ones, I prefer the unripened plantains but these were prepared well if you like the sweet variety should enjoy these plantains.

Let me say that we were not disappointed with our choice. Nothing fancy about the dine in area and it would have been nice if they had some nice Afro beats music playing on the televisions to create a more lively atmosphere. Many restaurants miss the mark when they ignore the atmosphere of their space and people aren't walking into a lifeless environment. Hope they take time to focus more on livening up the place. We sat ourselves as they seemed to be short staffed and after about 5 minutes or so we asked for a menu and after another few minutes we got one. There was no host at the host station and it looked like 3 male staff members were holding down the fort. We ordered fast because we were sooooo hungry. We hadn't eaten since breakfast and it was about 4:30pm and we just kept looking for our food to come out but was reassured it was on the way. Wasn't an unreasonable amount of time but we were so hungry it seemed longer. The food! We ordered egusi soup/stew, okra soup/stew and bitter leaf soup/stew with fufu for each. And then later ordered some suya to take home to hubby. My daughter gave the egusi a 5/5 and I gave it a 3.5/5, the okra stew with chicken and beef was sooo delish, I was trying not to do a happy dance in my chair. And the bitter leaf, as its names states, is bitter but not overwhelmingly so, at least for me, and it had great flavor! The fufu texture and taste was perfect. Many different countries have their take on each of these dishes so don't go in with a specific country in mind and judge it based on how you do it in Cameroon or Ghana, etc.. Go in expecting a version of these dishes that taste good, is served piping hot and loaded with two meats of your choice. I chose tripe and beef in my bitter leaf and chicken and beef in my okra stew. We packed out leftovers and ordered suya to go. The amount of Suya you get for $17.00 is not worth it. It is literally a handful and it could be juicier and a better cut of beef but with the suya spice added followed by some onion it was decent. And since they give such a small amount they should consider not putting it in a full size take out container and maybe consider upping the quantity especially with the cut of beef they use and the price. That's the good, the not so good and the not so ugly. Overall, the food was on point and we enjoyed it very much. Some minor tweaks with service, ambience and portions and this place will be even better. I'll be back. That is all!

The Egusi soup was delicious, but I was a little thrown off by the taste of the fufu. Not to say the food wasn't good, but it just threw me off as a new taste since I've had fufu from other African restaurants. I always get the Jolof rice because I am a country girl, and I have to add extra carbs to my vegetables. It was soooooo good. I probably don't eat right since I always have to eat my Egusi or vegetables. The chicken was delicious too, but I think the Southern African American in me was missing something, lol. With all jokes aside, the food was delicious, and I truly enjoyed it all. I need an hour to get some African cuisine where I live now. Oh, I can't forget the service. Even though we had to wait an hour (yes, you may want to call and pick up rather than sit there and eat if you don't have patience), the vibe was friendly. The lady tending to our order was very kind and friendly. She preferred Jolof rice, and we had some jokes when she came by to check on us as we waited. If you are in the area, this is a great place to stop by. Come on a day you aren't in a rush (but don't hold up a table either... you know who you are). That way, you can dine in. You know the experiences are always better when you can dine in.

I approached the food truck and was greeted by a friendly lady. They have a small menu, but his is a plus for me as it leaves less room for me to be indecisive! I ordered a few things. A meat pie, Bissop, and the Jollof (red rice) and Goat that's served with a side of fried plantain. The meat pie had a sweet and flaky crust. It was filled with seasoned ground meat (unsure what kind) potatoes, and carrots. It was very flaky and easy to eat. It was delicious. The Bissop is a Hibiscus drink. It wasn't as sweet as Sorrel, but was spiced and ginger forward. It was refreshing. The Jollof rice was spicy and flavorful. EVERY grain of rice had absorbed the tomatobase and seasonings. The GOAT was tender and seasoned well. The plantain was semi sweet. Overall a great dish. It only took about 4 minutes to receive my food. I waited until I got home to eat because there's no seating and I had my toddler in the car. The food was cold by the time I arrived and it was only a 15 minute drive. I can't wait to go back to try the Eguisi and pounded yam! Reasonable prices and great portions! Go check them out and try something new!!
