Came back home from a flight and was really hungry and craving sushi. Ordered the fireball roll on the phone and while I was on my way I did not know that I forgot my card back at my house. They already had my order and I asked if I could check my car for my card, I couldn't find it and went back in and told them that I couldn't find it apologized and left. While I was pulling out to leave the really nice lady ran out with the food and told me I can pay them the next time and gave it to me! I've never had that happen and I almost cried! I agreed and went home to eat and it was the best roll I've had in a long long time! I'm so glad I chose this place and can't wait to go back and thank them and repay them and get the same roll! 10/10 would recommend! read more

The best sushi in Tucson. Trust me, once you go here you won't be able to eat sushi anywhere else because you'll find yourself let down each time. It's high quality, fresh and consistently delicious. You will get miso and edamame included-making the amount of food worth the price (which is comparable to most other sushi places). Staff is hardworking and kind. My dad has dubbed Kazuko "the best sushi in Tucson" so of course I had to come check it out. It's definitely the small hole in the wall kind of place I like. (PS... there is additional parking in the back!) It was practically empty when we came at around 8 on a Friday night and we sat at the sushi bar which was fun. The service was good and you get complimentary edamame and miso soup when you order... love that. We shared the octopus salad which was great. I loved all the different textures and flavors; the sweet marinated cucumbers underneath gave it a nice crunch. We ordered some pretty basic rolls and nigiri and everything was really fresh and tasty. The rolls were a good size and were heavy on the fish and light on the rice.. just how I like them. I saw a lot of specialty rolls on the menu after we had already ordered a bunch of sushi so I'd like to try some of those next time. They also serve free ice cream after dinner! I believe it's plum but it tasted similar to bubblegum ice cream to me. Fun way to end the meal. I'd definitely go back but it's a bit far from home for us to become regulars. read more

Went here during lunchtime with my hubby right after one of my summer class is over. It was also our wedding anniversary so we wanted to spoil ourselves with sushi. Arrived there and the place just opened just in time for lunch so we were the only one there at that time. We were greeted and seated right away. We were given complimentary miso soup and edamame, which i devoured both in an instant. We just ordered off of the sushi menu since that's the main purpose of our visit. Masago, eel and salmon all taste fresh and popping. Their soft shell crab sushi is decadent and fried to perfection and did i say ginormous! Rolls are sized perfectly to fit right in your mouth and sushi rice is firm and well seasoned. Sashimi tasted fresh and buttery (in which i can eat all day). The people who works here are very nice and pleasant and very attentive. I also liked it that right after you were finish with your meal, you get a free scoop of ice cream, Yum. read more

It looks like a dive, but don't let the lack of exterior and interior decorating fool you. The sushi is fantastic and we come here once a week from campus. The rolls are huge and affordable and the staff is always pleasant. I took a large group in one evening near close (graduate students keep very weird hours and none of us had ate all day) and the staff didn't force us out like any other place would. Truth to CT B's review. My first Tucson experience since moving from the sushi-motherland called Japan. I'm also born and raised in LA so accustomed to great food and great sushi. I never planned on eating sushi in the desert (really because I knew I would never forgive myself for such a poor choice). A friend (a fellow sushi aficionado) was in town and wanted sushi so yelped it and was brought here. I ordered two specialty rolls and tell me why a) they were so skinny (quarter size rolls) I couldn't tell they were specialty rolls and b) why am I still hungry at the end of a meal that I shouldn't be able to finish. If the sushi was surprisingly good even though the amount was lacking I would have something good to say, but I don't! Needless to say, I told myself so. Simply fantastic. Food was great, service was quick considering it was in the middle of the dinner rush, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The staff were very courteous, patient, and helpful while we worked our way through a very large sushi menu. I lived in San Francisco and I travel to Japan, so I can be accused of being a sushi elitist. This place is the first I have been to in Tucson that gets my approval. The yellowtail had that melt in your mouth sensation that comes from great, fresh fish. Andrew our waiter was extremely helpful. This place is delicious and the have a sweet potato tempura roll which I can never fine. I wasn't sure if I should give this place a 4 or 5 star... but my bf insisted on 5 :) For a Tucson spot it ranks 5 stars definitely. The fish is really fresh, it literally melts in your mouth. And there's different specialty rolls that you dont find anywhere else. The sushi chef is such a sweet and funny guy. I have witness the many changes of restaurants that has occupied this location and Kazoku has been here the longest. And after trying the sushi I'm sure they will be around for a while (yay!) I have never had plum ice cream before and I'm am definitely a fan now. I will probably stop by just for the ice cream itself. read more

No frills location. Looks like a dump from outside but so far the sushi/sashimi looks pretty darn good! They charge for tea, which makes me sad, but i will live. They do make up for it with the free miso soup they gave me and the edamame which was cold! Which is how it should be! :) The fish was excellent, the rolls were excellent, the service...ok...not so excellent...but passable enough that I didn't care! The owner doesn't eat sushi at home (the giggling gabble of gals next to me asked him). It is priced reasonably well for a sushi place and has some noodle dishes if you aren't in the mood for sushi. Up front, I will say this - I eat sushi a lot, to the tune of four days a week. If I'm not eating it out, I'm making it (I order from Catalinaop.com). BULGOGI + Nice texture - A bit too saucy for me + Brilliant substitute for Takamatsu, which closed down due to a fire + Cheaper than Takamatsu at $12 a plate SPICY RAMEN + It was definitely spicy - It tasted like something I've made before... but I'm Asian and make ramen all the time, so I have high standards. + Lots of egg swirling around yummmm + $6 a bowl (COMPLIMENTARY) PLUM ICE CREAM: this was my first time ever eating plum ice cream, and it was awesome! What a pleasant surprise :) The staff was so incredibly friendly. I would return just for them! The sushi chef even greeted and waved goodbye to us. Overall, this isn't the best that I've had, but it was still decently good and better than other joints in town. We stopped here after the U of A game against the ASU. I was craving sushi and looked this place up on yelp. It's a cute place - looks like its family owned. We were greeted right away. The staffs were very friendly. We didn't order much since we were still full from eating our snacks from the game but I still wanted some sushi. We ordered, "yellowtail" sushi, "spicy yellowtail" roll and tried "fireball" minus the cream cheese. I'm not a fan of cream cheese so we asked to not include the cream cheese. I will say everything we had was really good. I love that they included Edamame and Miso as part of the meal; and ended it with Ginger ice cream to cleanse the palete. Like many, I too was skeptical of finding great sushi in Tucson but this place absolutely delivers! Pricey, but you get what you pay for and I have no problem paying good money for amazing food! Kind of in a weird location and the parking lot is tiny! Make sure you get here a little bit earlier before the lunch/dinner rush. My wife and I will be coming back here often! My husband and I love this place. we have been here three times in the last 4 months since living here. Our favorite part is that the food is consistently good each time we go.The prices are a little high, we don't leave spending anything less than $50. The Dragon Roll which is $10 is our favorite part, it is a good size and like I said is consistent in how it tastes. The lunch meals are good although the teriyaki chicken that we get comes with snap peas that we are not big fans of. The service is what makes this place only have four stars. The older lady who serves us doesn't say much at all but to take our order and ask if we want more tea. She doesn't ask us how everything is going nor does she ask us at the end of the meal if everything tasted good. She lacks serious server hospitality. The cook however is a very nice older gentlemen who always greets us when we come in with a smile, he even says "good to see you". When we leave he says have a good day with yet another smile. The olderlady did not smile once. If everyone was like the gentlemen the place would be better. The place is never full, in fact we were always the only ones in there. So... the food is great, a little pricey but worth it, and the staff needs to take a lesson in hospitality. We would go back though, the food is worth it. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I know I won't be going back anytime soon.For starters, their miso soup was watery and bland, it even lacked tofu squares! (how cheap!) I ordered their spicy eel roll and was a bit disappointed. It was bland in taste and texture. Too much cucumber not enough everything else. They were also stingy with the eel sauce. Cheery little Kazoku offers delicious specialty rolls like their signature Kazoku with fresh tuna and spicy crab, and the Mexican, which is a little heavy on the mayo but is rolled with Spanish style rice, a creative addition. The leatherette tabletops are a comfortable touch, but serving tea by the cup instead of the pot makes for a service kink when one is tea-less. I confess I like to mix up equal parts of wasabi and soy, and Kazoku's wasabi was a little dry for this process, and not as nuclear as it could be, but the sushi makes up for this. The light as air ice cold strawberry ice cream is a homerun after dinner. I've never liked green tea ice cream as an oxymoronic finish, and Kazoku apparently agrees. Reasonable prices, generous and manageable bites, and fresh fish will keep me coming. read more

I have lived in Japan and visited Korea and this is as good as it gets in America. The service was fast and friendly and the Sushi was delicious. I tried Maguro and it was soft and almost melted in my mouth. The avocado sushi was just as good. I also ate the Tempura which was excellent as well. The usual Miso soup and Edamame were served with my meal and I had an iced green tea to wash it down. I was happy to discover that they don't sweeten the green tea unlike other restaurants. It has become my favorite Japanese/Korean restaurant in Tucson. read more

We didn't hold out much hope for freshly made sushi close so close to the Mexican border but this was very good. Contrary to other reviewers, there was almost too much fish on our nigri! The beef bulgogi was a little bit too sweet for my tastes but I've never eaten it in South Korea, so perhaps that is authentic. The free plum ice cream was a nice touch and excellent. read more

I just love this place. It really stands out as probably the best Sushi place in town. Went here Sat. night at 6.00 PM and it was already crowded. I love their Crunchy Rolls with the perfect combinations of ingredients to make your taste buds dance. Love that you get Miso soup, edamame and a great dessert with Akuzo beans with most dishes. The staff is very sweet and helpful. Next time I will plunge into the sushi that they are well known for. I used to come here when I was working with my office and tried several dishes and all were exceptional. This one is a keeper for us. read more
