This was my first time here. Every time I come home to AZ I gotta get my Mexican and sushi fix. I came on my birthday to check this place out. It was during lunch. I ordered their spicy rolls lunch special. The sushi tasted really fresh however my appetite is quite large so afterwards I had a lot of room for more! I ended up ordering the veggie tempura along with sashimi combo. With both orders I was finally satisfied! Loved how they have lots of edamame even more after we asked for more. Miso came with it. The plum ice cream was the icing for an amazing birthday lunch!! The service was fast and on top of things. I'm definitely coming back for more! read more

Yum is all I can say! This is some of the freshest fish in town (it is Arizona after all). The service was great and they will custom make rolls not listed on the menu. All of their rolls are great, you can't really go wrong. The crazy roll and the passion are unique and scrumptious. However, the udon is why this place is really the best (we go for the sea food udon). It comes out in a traditional iron pot and is extremely flavorful. read more

hey hey nicely done Kazoku. We walk in and are promptly seated. This place has a modern feel like new sushi places that are beginning to spring up, but its not overkill modern (if that makes any sense). Immediately when being seated they took our drink orders, and asked if we wanted to start the night off with any appetizers, (which we did, veggie tempura). The veggie tempura was really good, and there was a surprise slice of fried banana or maybe it was a plantain (sp?) i can't tell the difference. Anyways, hard to mess up on tempura so they easily passed that test. (wasn't greasy so thats a plus). our meals were started off with Miso and edamame. Good thing we didn't order edamame for an appetizer. This complimentary one was most likely smaller than an appetizer version. the night goes on, we got our sushi, 4 rolls and some red snapper. Red snapper was good, didn't have that nasty old fish slime, so we know it was fresh---er.. than some other places. We had a rainbow roll, spicy tuna, super sake and the ??? (forgot the name, but it was a specialty roll). the specialty rolls, super sake and the ??? were both good, but no blow your mind fantastic. Spicy tuna was good, it surpassed other spicy tunas in town (that i have tried). Finally the rainbow roll, my favorite to get so i can try a little bit of each fish they had in their shelves.. only one complaint the yellowtail that was on the roll (what i think was), tasted old, it was the only piece of yellowtail that did taste old. When you eat fresh fish and take a bite of old fish...yeah just not pleasant...thankfully the meal as a whole was good and they brought out complimentary plum ice cream...which is btw delicious (standard plum ice cream nothing fancy, but i love it) The place has multiple flat screen tv's there so if there is a game and you want some sushi..BAM right there! Someone next to us got the kalbi, it looked delicious, next time i go i will have to try some korean food. You have to try the kamikaze roll. It is so scrumptious and tasty. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is clean and well kept. It is close to the U of A which makes an of campus sushi run very accessible. read more

The sushi here is better than what we had at Sushi Yukuri, but we'd still mainly go back for the noodle bowls. Yum! I ordered the Vegetable Udon ($8) which I really enjoyed--just be sure to stir up everything that's settled at the bottom! That's where all the flavor is. The portions were very good for the prices. Complimentary edamame to start and some kind of ice cream was served at the end... I was definitely not a fan of the ice cream and had two bites before I said No Thanks. For an ice cream lover this was a very rare occurrence indeed. However, my husband ate all of his, he said because "the flavor was so weird he just couldn't stop eating it." Lol, regardless of dessert we'd go back. It's a pretty casual place and the location seemed a little sketchy at first (being right on Speedway), so it's probably not somewhere you'd want to take someone on a first date. But for lunch or casual dinner it's perfect. Update: We went back a second time--I had the same Vegetable Udon (delicious again) and my husband ordered the Spicy Korean Ramen. It was good and definitely spicy!! Maybe a tad too spicy for him but I thought it was perfect. Only wish they had more types of Ramen! Oh and this time the ice cream was "red bean flavor." LOL! again I passed but my husband thought it tasted sort of like chocolate. Probably a bit of an acquired taste. Ice cream aside, this is quickly becoming one of our regular go-to eating spots. read more

Kazoku will take care of you, for the right price, of course. While the food and service is excellent, I felt like I paid too much for sashimi and nigiri (a bit too much wasabi) given the quite average atmosphere. We felt brave today and decided to try a new sushi bar for dinner. We have a couple of favorites around town. This is Friday night and when we got there there was only a couple of customer there, but decided to go in anyways. We ordered the 3 hand roll, soft crab roll, crunch roll, dragon roll, nigiri salmon, tuna, albacore, and last green muscle. The rolls were on the small size for the price we pay. The nigari fish were slice thin, taste more rice than fish. The 3 hand roll which was the most expensive but was the only one worth it. I don't mind paying a little more if the food is worth the price. When we pay the check and got ready to leave. I guess the waiter forgot to tell the bill lady the kids drinks was soda and not water. She scolded the waiter and turn to us and say..that will be $5. Really two little kids drink cost $5. Now we see why there were only a few customers and now you lost another one. Heard good things about this place. Tried the Califonia Roll, Kamikazi Roll, and the Baked Scallop Roll. They were smaller than other places and seemed like they were slapped together quickly. They were fresh and tasted good. However, the service was VERY slow. It took an hour and 15 minutes just to get our order. Ordered at 6pm; received food at 720pm. Then to make things worse the Sushi Chef got one of the rolls wrong and had to make it over again. We didnt dare try to order anything else. We were not going to wait another hour. You can get larger rolls elsewhere and faster service. Even the server and the Manager realized we waited a excessively long time. Nevertheless, they didn't do anything to make up for it but apologize. Honestly, it was not worth paying $31 for this. read more

We don't usually order Americanized-ish sushi rolls (cream cheese, cooked fish, imitation crab c'mon =D) so I cannot review those rolls. If you like sashimi like we do, definitely order the sashimi plates. They were so fresh. Our friend had teriyaki beef and it came with tempura, salad, rice on top of the edamame and miso. This is, without a doubt, the finest place to get Japanese food in Tucson. While I would argue that they have some of the highest quality foodstuffs, that's honestly not even the best part about Kazoku. The atmosphere and staff are always the example of perfect waiting. Please understand that when I say always, I mean always. I have been here more than 300 times, easily, multiple times per week for many years. My husband's job requires him to travel throughout the U.S, therefore making dining out a must. This restaurant's food is REALLY REALLY good. We are a family of eight and everything we ordered from the appetizers to the sushi to the main entrees were delish. Our children were asking for more. Cannot forget to mention how nice the server and sushi chef were. Also super important to us as well is cleanliness and we were completely satisfied with the appearance. This place was decent but not amazing. I'm pretty sure the wasabi is not authentic and the sushi is decent but not fantastic. The fish to rice ratio is good when it came to nigiri and the freshness is not in question. I like the miso more than most places as well as the complimentary ice cream. The service was ok and relatively fast but the prices are a bit on the high end. If you can get their lunch deals then it may be worth it because the sushi appears to be consistent I meant to only get sushi but as I was sick I ordered the korean spicy ramen so that the soup would relieve my throat. I was most disappointed with that because it tasted identical to shin instant ramen with an egg and a piece of crab meat. I was more impressed with the bento box with the beef, rice, salad and edamame because it was well portioned and seemed like a good deal. Overall it seemed like a nice place but my disappointment with the ramen has lowered my view of Kazoku. read more

I absolutely LOVE Kazoku! I always order the L-5 Lunch special, which is chicken teriyaki, white sticky rice, edamame, salad, AND California rolls, for less than $10! Everything is always so good whenever I go there, I am pretty sure they know me by name and phone number now, I order so much! They never seem to be too busy whenever I go, but I always opt for pick up, so I don't stick around to see if a lunch crowd ever arrives. Super friendly service, great sushi rolls, all around a must try place for lunch!(have't tried dinner yet). You wont be disappointed! read more

I've been here a few times, the food is great! Love the sashimi, always fresh, portion size is good. My husband likes their ramen, he orders it every time! The reason I give them a five star is not only that the food is great, the service is awesome. One time I called in at 2:45pm, they close between 3-5pm. The lady told me I can still go in, when I arrived it's 2:55. She took care of me and my husband and we basically had the whole restaurant to ourselves! Some restaurants would say sorry we are closing in 5 minutes, but kazuko is different，I think this is how a restaurant should treat their customers. I feel welcomed and warmhearted! Tips: order green mussels! They are the best! We put in one order (which comes in three pieces, but that day we had a extra piece!）I am one happy customer! read more

Ordered the combination teriyaki dinner: edamame, miso soup, salad, rice, sautéed veg, teriyaki, 4 pieces nigiri (maguro, sake, hamachi, ebi), and 5 pieces sashimi (2 hamachi, 3 sake @ approx 4 oz. total), finished with strawberry ice cream = $18. Fast, fresh/firm fish, and decent quality (dined last week at high-end restaurant in LA's Little Tokyo @ 3x price). Based on single visit, very impressed. That said, don't expect much ambiance beyond an inexpensive family-run (it would seem) restaurant on Speedway. I'll be back. read more

i LOVE the fireball roll here. I also get the Y from time to time. We've only eaten in once but normally take it go as we work down the street. other than Ra, this is my go to sushi place. Traveling Iin Tucson and went to Kazoku based on yelp rating. Turned out yto be a very good call. The simple miso soup was the best I have ever had. Had chef's special sushi and rainbow roll -- both were fresh and very tasty. Plum ice cream to finish was nice touch. Clean and friendly atmosphere...will definitely revisit on next trip. read more

We were in the never ending waiting game, waiting for our server, waiting for drinks, and what was the most frustrating, was we waited almost an hour for our sushi once we placed our order!
