Hey I went here again! Katie went with me this time, and we sat outside on their patio! This place is the right vibe. I can't help but love this place just on that alone. But, when you throw in waitstaff that is attentive yet lets you sit back and relax, eating and ordering at your own pace. Amazing! And then there is the food. I will probably eventually make it all the way through this menu. For this visit, we had just driven back into town from a vacation at the lake. And noodles were high on our list of options. Neither of us got noodles. Sigh! But the food is fantastic, and I just can't eat here enough.

Went here for a late dinner on a Saturday night Service was great, even at closing time. Start with the Korean wings they are amazing, so are their Raman bowls.

Happy Hour daily 3-6p keeps drawing me back! Great spot to meet some friends for happy hour drinks and snacks. This part of KC takes me forever to get to, but there are so many hidden gems. Honestly, you can't go wrong with food choices. And parking lots behind and around the corner if you're searching for parking.

I keep trying Boru and something is always off. This time it was the service and their lack of environmental & health concern- I got a plastic straw in my water without asking for one, and when I asked for a cup of hot water I got a giant styrofoam cup... no thank you to microplastics in my water. The server brought my ramen out to me and promised to come back with a spoon and never did- I had to ask another server after 5 whole minutes of not being able to eat the broth while it began to cool. Our server only had 2 other tables. The one item I adore is the mushroom bao. The black ramen was a mix of good (love the chewy noodles) and "eh" (raw garlic cloves, cold egg). They are trendy sure, but there just isn't much love put into the service, food or details. I think this last time was my final time, but I've been there about four times now.

First, the service here was absolutely amazing. Miles was so incredibly funny, friendly, and attentive. Could not have asked for a better server. Secondly, this was my boyfriend and I's second time here and it rocked once again. He got the spicy miso ramen and I got the bulgogi and fried chicken baos with spicy tuna sushi and everything was so incredibly good. This place is a must if you're in the area. Thirdly, the atmosphere here is so great. The music was top tier in my opinion and everything was so clean and welcoming. 5 stars easily!

We came here for Restaurant Week, despite the negative temperatures. The hostess made us feel WELCOMED. It was really pleasant to be greeted so kindly and she was eager to tell us about the specials and that our server would be with us shortly. This isn't the first time we've eaten at Boru, but we wanted to try it again since it's been years from the last time we dined here. My partner's favorite aesthetic is this restaurant: lacquered black furniture, dark woods, red tiles and paint, exposed metal. He always comments on this lol. Anyways to the food! They didn't have hot tea, which was kind of disappointing. From the restaurant week menu, I had the Boru bowl (typical Tokyo style ramen, but with additional bok choy and pickled mustard greens which is not so traditional) and my partner had the spicy miso. I never would comment about this normally in a negative light, but there was far more noodles than broth. The broth was very salty and a bit greasy. The tea egg was not well peeled. I needed togarashi and white pepper for my broth, which wasn't at our table like the other tables around us. In all, I would give the ramen I had a 2/5 stars. My partner thought his was alright. I will say that I tasted his broth and it was much tastier than mine. He did finish his bowl completely. The dessert was half normal key lime pie with mango coulis or purée. It was garnished with a pocky. That too was ok. I might try Boru again in the future, and not for restaurant week, but there are better places to get all of these dishes.

I believe Boru was one of the first that started carrying ramen in KC! Now look at us. Inside the restaurant it's a bit small but the food/vibes is all that matters. Everytime I have visited, I would get the ramen and the kimchi fries *chefs kiss*.

Visiting from out of town and wanted something Asian but also healthy-ish. There's a parking lot across the street and next to the building dedicated to this restaurant and other surrounding shops. It's also free parking-- bonus! Came on a Saturday around 5PM for dinner and it wasn't too crowded, they were able to seat me immediately. Very cute atmosphere, and not too rowdy. I ordered the lucky lychee cocktail, and it was half off due to happy hour. It's sooo delicious. A sweet little bubbly drink to pair with my dinner. I ordered the goddess roll, which I believe is vegetarian. It was filled with seaweed salad, avocado, and krab salad topped with micro greens. The table setting also has soy sauce and chili oil. It was good, but not spectacular. For the entree, I ordered the Korean steak and noodle salad. The steak was overly seasoned (which I find myself saying this to be odd), but it was way too salty for me. However, I did really enjoy the noodle salad very much. It has such a unique flavor but it paired so well with everything. The waiter was kind and helpful. He checked in on me frequently to make sure I was doing okay, so that was nice. Overall, good experience-- I'd come back if I was in town again.

I visited Boru with two friends on a recent trip to KCMO. We started with the crab rangoons, which were absolutely delicious. Perfectly crisp and the filling was very flavorful. For my main, I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and also a breakfast bao. The bao bread was delicious, but broke in half almost immediately. There was also a delicious sauce on the bao. My chicken was good, not great. The sauce was very good, but the chicken itself was pretty tough. My friends had the miso soup and the loaded friend rice. Both were good, but not great. Overall, this is definitely a decent option for asian food in KCMO. I just don't know if I'd go out of my way to direct friends and family here.

    Dandan Noodles
    Jolanta L.

I have been Bōru for several times, but this was my first time tried their Dandan noodle. I always like the Dandan noodle was made traditionally from China. I think the flavor was different but interesting. The flavor was different than the traditional ones, but was not bad, it's good to pair with the spicy oil sauce if you can eat spicy! I also found that the kid's menu was surprisingly great! Good choices and good price with free beverage and Ice cream! Great deal if you have a little one.

My second time going here and it still is one of my favorite spots! The service is always good and the inside and outside always looks beautiful. I will always love their food and the portion is great. I would definitely come back for more and invite more friends here!

Their happy hour is every day 4-6, all day Wednesday, and Friday and Saturday 8-10. We ordered a couple rolls and apps. My fave was the Kansas City Roll. Smoked Salmon, with cream cheese, then they cut the roll, fry the pieces, then sliced in half. Perfection! I had had crab Rangoons a few hours earlier, so I didn't order them... but the table next to me did and I was slightly envious.... Most of the food rolls out from the kitchen on a robot trey. It's a very fun way as the robot livens up the room. Our server made the final delivery from Trey to Table. For entrees, we ended up with surf and Turf. The Gyu Don is a bowl of streamed rice topped with marinated slow cooked Beef Ribeye and Mushrooms. The Okimari Chirashi is chefs choice raw fish. We selected sashimi style, so it's on a Bed of sushi rice. My friend had the Lychee Martini which was delicious and potent.

Then we sat down at the teppanyaki table, and things went south faster than a dropped egg. Our server was solid, but the "chef" was a total trainwreck. It felt like we were an inconvenience to his schedule. He just rushed through the motions with zero engagement, like he was checking off a grocery list instead of actually cooking for people. The "Highlights" (and I use that term loosely): The Timing: I ordered the steak and scallops. He finished my steak before the rice even hit the grill. My cow just sat there getting cold while we watched him "work." The Culinary Wisdom: When one of us asked if the beef was a strip or a ribeye, he literally just said, "It's steak." Cool. Glad we cleared that up. The Cross-Contamination Special: We had a vegetarian in the group. He proceeded to cook her tofu directly in the steak juice. Truly a "chef's kiss" moment if you hate your customers. The Doneness (or lack thereof): The salmon was basically still swimming (raw), and the scallops were charred and tasted like fire and brimstone. The Mussels: I grabbed a side of green mussels. They were... fine? I've had much better elsewhere in town, but they were the Olympic gold medalists of my meal by default. The Silver Lining? The Sake. It came in a take-home glass, was incredibly easy to drink, and was 100% necessary to get through the rest of the experience. I can't speak for the sushi, but if it's handled with the same "I don't want to be here" energy as the teppanyaki, I'd stay far, far away. Two stars only because the hostess was nice and the Sake did its job.
