So glad that my partner suggested this place, and bonuses: they have happy hour every day (3-6 pm) and the servers are always so great! The place is on the corner with so many windows, that you can really enjoy the sun on a sunny day. They always have some sort of anime or something related on TV, and the inside includes high top seating, along with booths and tables (and a bar if you want to tuck in there!). Has a spot for everyone! One day after having some beers at a local spot, my partner and I were craving some ramen or noodle dishes. We stopped at Boru on his request, and I cannot get the Dan Dan Noodles out of my head! Just went back and tried my second of the four flavors of ramen (spicy miso!) and it hit the spot for a chilly weekend day--even better: ramen bowls are only $10 during the first hour of happy hour (3-4 pm!). Such a great asian cuisine restaurant. I first came in and had the ramen, I sat by the opened windows on a nice sunny spring day and wow. What a meal what a great experience. Theyve really nailed the aesthetic here and it makes you want to hangout and have another a beer enjoying the views and sun from the patio / opened section. The ramen is great, I don't have ramen often but Boru made some of the best I've had so it's definitely stuck in my memory that they do it well. This time it was the service and their lack of environmental & health concern- I got a plastic straw in my water without asking for one, and when I asked for a cup of hot water I got a giant styrofoam cup... no thank you to microplastics in my water. The server brought my ramen out to me and promised to come back with a spoon and never did- I had to ask another server after 5 whole minutes of not being able to eat the broth while it began to cool. Our server only had 2 other tables. The one item I adore is the mushroom bao. The black ramen was a mix of good (love the chewy noodles) and "eh" (raw garlic cloves, cold egg). We came here for Restaurant Week, despite the negative temperatures. The hostess made us feel WELCOMED. It was really pleasant to be greeted so kindly and she was eager to tell us about the specials and that our server would be with us shortly. This isn't the first time we've eaten at Boru, but we wanted to try it again since it's been years from the last time we dined here. My partner's favorite aesthetic is this restaurant: lacquered black furniture, dark woods, red tiles and paint, exposed metal. He always comments on this lol. Anyways to the food! They didn't have hot tea, which was kind of disappointing. From the restaurant week menu, I had the Boru bowl (typical Tokyo style ramen, but with additional bok choy and pickled mustard greens which is not so traditional) and my partner had the spicy miso. I never would comment about this normally in a negative light, but there was far more noodles than broth. The broth was very salty and a bit greasy. The tea egg was not well peeled. I needed togarashi and white pepper for my broth, which wasn't at our table like the other tables around us. In all, I would give the ramen I had a 2/5 stars. My partner thought his was alright. I will say that I tasted his broth and it was much tastier than mine. He did finish his bowl completely. The dessert was half normal key lime pie with mango coulis or purée. It was garnished with a pocky. That too was ok. I might try Boru again in the future, and not for restaurant week, but there are better places to get all of these dishes. read more

Visiting from out of town and wanted something Asian but also healthy-ish. There's a parking lot across the street and next to the building dedicated to this restaurant and other surrounding shops. It's also free parking-- bonus! Came on a Saturday around 5PM for dinner and it wasn't too crowded, they were able to seat me immediately. Very cute atmosphere, and not too rowdy. I ordered the lucky lychee cocktail, and it was half off due to happy hour. It's sooo delicious. A sweet little bubbly drink to pair with my dinner. I ordered the goddess roll, which I believe is vegetarian. It was filled with seaweed salad, avocado, and krab salad topped with micro greens. The table setting also has soy sauce and chili oil. It was good, but not spectacular. For the entree, I ordered the Korean steak and noodle salad. The steak was overly seasoned (which I find myself saying this to be odd), but it was way too salty for me. However, I did really enjoy the noodle salad very much. It has such a unique flavor but it paired so well with everything. The waiter was kind and helpful. He checked in on me frequently to make sure I was doing okay, so that was nice. I visited Boru with two friends on a recent trip to KCMO. We started with the crab rangoons, which were absolutely delicious. Perfectly crisp and the filling was very flavorful. For my main, I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and also a breakfast bao. The bao bread was delicious, but broke in half almost immediately. There was also a delicious sauce on the bao. My chicken was good, not great. The sauce was very good, but the chicken itself was pretty tough. My friends had the miso soup and the loaded friend rice. Both were good, but not great. Overall, this is definitely a decent option for asian food in KCMO. I just don't know if I'd go out of my way to direct friends and family here. read more

I have been Bōru for several times, but this was my first time tried their Dandan noodle. I always like the Dandan noodle was made traditionally from China. I think the flavor was different but interesting. The flavor was different than the traditional ones, but was not bad, it's good to pair with the spicy oil sauce if you can eat spicy! This was one of the restaurants I tried for restaurant week and it was $20 for dinner. I got The Boru (ramen) and key lime pie for dessert. I guess I'm going to be that picky person when it comes to ramen. I don't know what these fusion noodles were supposed to be. I thought The Boru was what they were calling their house-special ramen. However, the shoyu broth tasted like a Chinese five-spice broth you'd associate with Taiwanese beef noodle soup and the pork belly was so dry I didn't really think there was actually any fat/belly to it. They opened at 3 PM on Monday and I didn't know that until I got there and was met with a locked door. Once it turned 3 PM, I walked inside and noticed there were a couple of people seated and eating food which surprised me since they just opened. I checked the Restaurant Week menu which had a couple of options to choose from, but I ordered the General Oh Tso Good Chicken with Key Lime Pie. My server came back and informed me that the desserts had not been delivered yet and they ran out of them the day before, which was unfortunate. However, she said they could use a different type of dessert instead, but I decided to pass. Therefore, I just ordered the regular-priced menu option with Edamame. The Edamame was good. I've never had it before, so I was confused on how to eat it. My girlfriend looked it up online and that made things easier for the both of us. It had great flavor, and since there were so many of them, they became filling very quickly. The chicken tasted good and had great flavor. It comes with rice and broccoli and it tasted good by itself, but when added with the chicken it amplified the flavors and came together nicely. This location would've gotten a 5-star review, but the service was below average to average. My waiter only came by to deliver water and didn't speak very much which didn't make my experience personable. Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience here. The food was good, but the service wasn't the best, and I'd recommend anyone wanting some great food to come to this location. If you are looking for Asian-style meals and good vibes, check out my thoughts on Boru after eating here twice this week: Location: 9/10 Nestled near Waldo and State Line, it is the perfect stop for happy hour, dinner, and apps coupled with a chill vibe. It is on the corner next to a coffee shop but parking can be cantankerous during peak hours. (It is free parking, so it's a win!) Keep this in mind as you may have to park and walk when it is pretty busy. Even during slower parts of the day, other neighboring businesses like City Gym can make parking a little difficult. It is not a deal breaker though. Time/day matter: 7/10 My first visit was Thursday evening around 6 pm and it was not busy at all. Service was quick and our server was definitely on top of it. I came back with my husband tonight and it was what you would expect: a lot busier with slower service. We were quick to be seated but waited around five minutes before our server, Amanda took our drink order. It's a Vibe: 9/10 As previous Yelpers have mentioned, this establishment is not that big so I am not sure it is great for parties bigger than five people. The high-top table we sat at had limited space for multiple dishes so that made things feel a little crowded. Both times I had the Hubby had Korean Fried Chicken wings with a side of white rice. The stir-fry ramen and Boru were flavorful and fresh! The spring rolls and crab Rangoon were also really good and fresh. Both were crispy and hot. Hubby gave the chicken wings a 7/10 because he said the wings were a little overcooked. I will say that their ramen selection is pretty limited and I would like to see more options. For hubby and I to eat here, it was close to $60, which may be pricey for some. Overall: 8.95/10 I would definitely come back, especially in the warmer months when the patio is open. After visiting twice this week, I do prefer the quieter weeknight crowd over the weekend rush. If you are looking for an extensive ramen selection, you may be disappointed. This is a nice addition to the KC restaurant scene but in my opinion, it is not great for kids. Our server recommended the kimchi fries in addition to our shrimp dumplings. I am not a huge fan of sweet potatoes, but the fries were easy to munch on while waiting for our main dishes. I must admit though, I wish we ordered more dumplings! Stuffed with delicious shrimp and pan friend to perfection- I really did not want share! I also had an Asian pear mule which was quite refreshing. For my main dish, I had stir fried shrimp ramen and my friend had a spicy tuna roll. She mentioned that the individual rolls were larger than expected which made it harder to eat. My ramen tasted quite burnt, so I was disappointed with my dish. The shrimp dumplings and dish are the saving grace here. I would recommend Boru for a drinks night and appetizers (the dumplings!!!). The kids chicken ramen is still filling, even "kid portion". A healthy amount of noodles, a good amount of shredded chicken and edamame added in. The broth is a bit lacking, but that could be because it's for kids. The 6 min egg add-on is a must for any kind of ramen, and it didn't disappoint. The sweet potato fries appetizer that everyone raves about missed its mark with me. I don't believe I got any pork belly on it, but the dressing/sauce drizzled on top missed its "awesomeness" with me, the sesame seeds added too much salty taste, and the fried egg was sitting too long - again, no delivery.
