This review is on the service I received while corresponding with Mel C. after I sent in a quote request via Yelp. My quote was a request for paint removal on a door and his response was "I'm booked for this time." Firstly, I didn't even request a specific time, I'd put "timing is flexible" based on the options provided. So I responded and asked him how he could be booked for this time if I didn't request a specific time. He responded with "We're booked for the next 3 months Just saying." (Adding a screenshot of the conversation). It's great that he's busy and booked out but would it hurt to be a little polite and just say that he's booked for the next three months but if I'm interested in a future date, he'd be happy to reconnect? I didn't mind waiting because I'm not in a rush but this is definitely not the service I'd expect from a five star business. read more

*Note this work actually took place in 2019, I'm just getting around to a review now! I hired Mel from KCG to paint a full room that was two different shades of teal. I had a tight timeline as I was getting shelves installed a week or so later. Quote: Mel responded very quickly and gave me an estimate on the room. Once we decided on the final details we made an appointment and got set up. Day of: Mel and one other painter took a good look at the room, helped remove a mounting that was there, prepped the room and even went to get additional paint and provided the receipt. There were also a few paint splatters on the hardwood floor from previous owners and Mel pointed it out, which is great, because if he hadn't, of course I would have thought maybe he made a mistake. In addition to the room painting, the closet was also painted and it was quite a bit rough: it had some sort of child's wax crayon something and it was very tough to get out. He did a great job though and it looked brand new, all done in one day. Mel also had another appointment, so he let me know they were going to break for lunch and gave me the precise time they would both return (him from the other job and the associate from lunch). Talk about accurate: they both came back within 5 minutes of each other, Mel really doesn't play! Mel's quote for painting our house exterior was a bit higher than a competitor's, but we decided to go with him anyway because of a glowing review from a neighbor. It was worth a little extra to me, to have that extra peace of mind that the company was so reputable. The paint crew arrived on time every day, and worked all the way over Thanksgiving without taking any time off. The work quality was excellent, with them periodically checking in with me for any feedback about how they were handling the work. We have several security cameras around the exterior of our house, and although I offered to take them down for the duration of the work, they instead chose to mask the cameras every morning, then uncover them again before they left each day - their logic being that that way we maintained security coverage throughout. A small detail for sure, but emblematic of the attention to customer satisfaction that these guys displayed. They were also very understanding and helpful, about working around some obstacles - e.g. some very heavy concrete planters that we couldn't move out of the way. Again, small details, but it's how those little things are handled that can make one company stand out from others. A job well done. read more

Pros: Quick quote, reasonable price, flexible with timing, paint looks pretty good, the guys were very nice, the owner was able to help me figure out what the best sheen was for different rooms. Cons: did not finish on time and did not communicate regarding delays. I had to move all of my stuff into the living room because the rest of the condo had not been painted, even though I regularly checked in and reminded the owner about the move in date to confirm everything would be ready. The workers mostly spoke Spanish, which is not my first language but we got by. One of the bathroom doors was quickly chipped so I will have to touch that up. I needed to get my house painted so I got quotes from a few different companies. Of the people who were properly licensed, KCG had the best pricing. They were able to repair the cracks we had in the Stucco as well as touch up areas that was missing stucco. So I was very impressed with the response; and the start of the job. Things started off well on Monday and I had high hopes that there would be no problems. From Monday to Thursday I had two concerns; 1. the workers kept leaving their garbage (water bottles, Jack in the box cups) in the yard, on Tuesday evening I placed a small garbage can in the front, but still had to clean up after them. 2. When they started working in the front on the second story, they hit the Dish for the cable, the first time it interrupted the programming but the cable came back on. Then on their last day while working on the ladder on the second story, they completely knocked out the cable. My daughter's window is located right where the cable Dish is located, and saw the ladder go up and then notice the cable go out. I was not home at the time, but she called me explained what happened and I called Mel. Mel apparently spoke to his workers and they said they didn't do anything. Nothing like customer service with these guys. Those two words went out the window. Later, after several telephone and text messages exchanges Mel finally agreed that his guys 'MAY' have accidently hit the Dish. REALLy!! So, we couldn't get anyone out until Monday to fix the cable. If you hire this company my advise: take pictures close up photos of the house, around the windows and garage. My last two issues with the finished job, there were paint drippings around the front window frames, which Mel and his workers said they didn't cause, which I totally disagree. I had photos of the front windows and I could see there were no drippings. Lastly, there were paint smudges on the garage door, the same color as the new paint, OH.. Mel taking his workers word, said it was from the garage door rubbing again the top of the wood. SMH. There are no scrape marks on the door, nothing like that. You would think if the garage door was rubbing when opened there would be some kind of markings on it, but apparently I didn't know what I'm talking about. So, Mel had his guy come out do the clean up work and what do you know, after he cleaned off the garage, there have been no paint smudges on the door since. Since my paint job I have three neighbors that are painting their houses, and no I did not recommend these guys. Mel said he would compensate for the damage for our cable Dish... I've seen nothing. We contracted with them for a large project...painting our home interior and exterior, plus porch paint on the sunroom and laundry concrete floor as well as epoxy painted the garage concrete floor. Mel was great to work with! We had some particularities on how we wanted things done and he was very flexible and made the entire job run smoothly and efficiently. We spoke to many painters and KCG was not the most expensive, neither the least expensive. When it comes to doing the job right, you really have to look at experience, pictures and reviews. There is a saying..."The cheap becomes expensive"...so, don't waist money on cheap jobs because you will need to fix sub par work in the near future. The work that KCG did was detailed and really done to perfection and I expect that our home's paint will look great and last for the next 15-20 years. They cleaned up every day after working 8 hours on the project. The workers were easy to communicate with and if there were any issues Mel was on top of it and things were resolved quickly. His crew was professional, dedicated and worked hard to complete the job in the scheduled time. We had been hesitant to repaint the exterior of our house because of cost. Do NOT hesitate to call KCG! They were massively less than MB Jessee... I knew I was in trouble when MB Jessee showed up in a car with advertising all over the car and a person with an iPad.... Mel showed up to do the quote the same day we contacted him. Him and another person walked the house, asked a couple questions and gave us a great quote that same night. We got 3 other quotes that couldn't even compete! Also, I contacted Mel after the job because I noticed a broken sprinkler head, Mel did not hesitate. It was replaced the next day by noon. The job was pretty difficult with lots of details - the house was built in the 1960's and the previous owners lived there for 30 years and hadn't updated - so we had to remove lots of old wallpaper and mirrored walls. His crew ended up having to replace some old drywall and repair lots of damaged drywall, and they still managed to finish on schedule. The finished paint job looks fantastic! We had the floors done recently but there was not a speckle of paint to find when they removed it after they were done.
