The gyro sandwich was definitely the highlight.. it was a great size, very filling, and had really enjoyable flavors. The hummus was good, and they give you a generous portion, though it only comes with a small piece of bread, so I would have loved a bit more to go with it. I am at little confused to why locals rate this restaurant four stars, but personally I found the menu a bit confusing. Every item has a plus sign next to it, so you end up doing math while ordering. It almost feels like a way to make the prices seem more affordable than they actually are. That said, the customer service is top notch. Everyone was very personable and genuinely welcoming, which definitely stood out. As for the food, it wasn't my favorite due to a lack of flavor. However, it clearly works for the locals, so this may just come down to personal preference. read more

This was our first dinner being up in Redwood National Parks region back in July of last year (we're getting there, slowly, but surely). Ordered the lamb dinner plate, which comes with an array of veggies, tzatziki sauce, rice, and lamb. The lamb was perfectly cooked yet still moist and paired well with the warm fluffy pita bread. Oh, and of course, had to get the Turkish coffee with cream and sugar. This place seems like a local spot, and I can see why. It's got a homely feel to it and service was welcoming. It's a bit of small space, but they use the decor in a way that makes it feel inviting and more spacious. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area. read more

Really busy shop with friendly staff. We came on a weekday during lunch and there was a good amount of people around like 4 tables/orders besides us. We ordered the falafel burger and the kebab gyro. The pita was soft and my partner enjoyed the kebab. My falafel burger was perfect -- it wasn't overly spicy but had all the flavors of a good burger. Our only complaint is the fries, which were overcooked and as a result a little more on the drier side. The large portion of fries was very generous and probably better suited to 3 people rather than 2. Overall, we would come back. Lovely shop! read more

We received not exactly warm fluffy pita filled delights, but my son rated them "not bad to good". The gyro meat was really good! Which actually means we will be back because, people, this is Arcata! Pulling up to our hotel in Arcata, CA, we noticed the sign for Kebab Cafe. I mentioned it to my wife. When we checked in she asked about food places and everyone at the front desk said the food at the Kebab Cafe is awesome. 'Nuff said. Diane went to get us some food. We ordered pork, beef, vegetable and chicken kebabs. We added a dinner plate with chicken, rice and a veggie kebab. It also included cabbage, tomato and cucumbers. We also ordered a couple of rounds of pita bread. The food was absolutely awesome. Diane said the place was clean, the people were friendly. They were very nice and very efficient and willing to answer any questions. There were a lot of people in and out ordering and picking up food while she was there. If we are back through Arcata, we will go there again. Great find. Try it out. read more

As we were looking for food in the area. I asked friends on Facebook for recommendations and this place was highly spoken of. So glad we stopped in and got some goodies. The food itself was okay, not the best Greek food I've had by far, but still decent. Pita was dry and not soft, but the gyro meat was flavorful enough and they gave us a good amount. The service was questionable; the workers were nice but mildly dismissive. My friends and I ordered 4 gyros and a dinner plate with kebab. The waitress asked if we wanted sauce on the side, so we said yes for all the gyros. When we received the food, half the gyros had no sauce at all, and half had tzaziki on the pita (we asked for red sauce as well). We came back to the restaurant after we noticed, which was around 30 mins later. After telling one of the workers our order, they said that the sauce should already be in the bag and did not say anything else. We were confused as to why the worker didn't seem to believe us and didn't want to give us the sauce we ordered. The worker who originally took our order eventually gave us a container of red sauce, but it still wasn't what we originally wanted. I always stop at this busy local spot whenever I'm in town. The food is fresh and flavorful. I always enjoy exploring the menu. The restaurant itself isn't large but does offer some limited seating though I usually get to go food and it looks like to go business is a majority of their business. Exceeded my expectations! Got the lamb kabob platter to go and it was a solid amount of food. The pita was fluffy and the rice was fragrant. I liked that I could see them grill the kabab right in front of me too. I do regret asking for the red sauce over the tzatziki though since it tasted more like a salsa than I expected and I felt a bit like I was eating a burrito bowl. Honestly went here because it was convenient and close to the Hampton where I was staying. Had Mexican yesterday which was good so decided to try something different. The staff was very pleasant and helpful helping me decide what to order. Thought I'd stick with something familiar and that I've had before somewhere else. I ordered a Gyro with the blend of lamb and beef with red sauce.... i was wrong I've never had a Gyro like this. First of all a lot bigger than I thought it would be and absolutely delicious. Efficient, friendly and very tasty take-out available at Kebab Cafe in north Arcata. For many years, this has been my go-to spot whenever I am staying in the area. The restaurant space is small, so most of the food ends up carry out or delivery even before covid. I liked how safe the set-up was, with tables creating separation between the public and entrance. Staff stayed back in the restaurant mostly, and come out to take orders and drop off food. Clean and dirty pen areas and many staff wearing gloves made it more adequately set up than most places I have been to, so props to the owners looking out for staff and the public. My two dinners early in the week were my usual falafel wrap. The falafel they use is crisp, had lots of herbs and a bit spicy. I like the tzatziki sauce to cool things down, but sometimes too much sauce. They add in plenty of tomatoes and peeled cucumbers and shredded cabbage too. The pita is warm and fluffy. I liked the fries too, nice and crispy but not too thin. Grab a taste of the middle east to go over at Kebab Cafe today. read more

Still here and still making some of the very best Greek and Meditterean food around this area period. Family owned and operated this small walk up service counter deli has been making great healthy food here for years. Actual thought I had reviewed them years back, but obviously not? I haven't had a falafel sandwich in quite a while, and not been in the area in a long time and was glad to see they are still here and still making very good food. So, I had to stop and get it to go. Masked required, social distancing in place - got my fat flatbread wrap with a side of hummus and a warm pita and was on my way. This is a seriously good and large traditional pita bread sandwich thats easily splitable or could be seconds for later. And if you are hungry like I was it definitely hit the spot for that exact moment in time. The falafels are huge and well seasoned, nice nutty richness of the chick peas, moist and fine grain consistency, topped with fresh veggies, and a cool yogurt dressing all stuffed in that warm pita bread. Just a great vegetarian lunch. The side of hummus though small was very tasty as well, the pita bread warm and was so good (no photo!) I snacked on most of it on my way home... Kebab Cafe was a very surprising find that's tucked away in a shopping plaza close to many of the chain hotels in Arcata. After a full day hike in Prairie Creek, my boyfriend and I stumbled in around 7:30. They close at 8, but were so welcoming. In fact more patrons kept steaming in for take out and eat in almost up until closing. We ordered a veggie pita, chicken kabob pita, hummus and fries. We had to eat in and they brought it out to us. Everything we had was excellent. Fresh grilled veggies with lettuce, tomato and tzatziki on a pita was my meal and it was wonderful. It was a little heavy on the sauce for me but that's just personal preference (next time I'd ask them go easy on it.) The hummus was also excellent. The back area for eat in dining is cozy and nicely decorated-very nice, especially for a place with "order at the counter." Excellent option in Arcata and flavorful Mediterranean food. read more

Wow this is the greatest cafe! The steak and the vegetable kabobs are so incredible! The gyros, pitas and dolmas are really great! The baba ghanouj, red chile and tzazkiki sauces were the only items that could be better - bland and maybe mixed with cream or mayo? (They probably buy those and do not make their own.) But the staff is excellent, the place is super clean and they really take time to make everything perfect! read more

I have no idea what happened to this place in the last year...we were back in the area and had such a positive experience last time that we wanted to get the food again. They are still having people stand outside and order for COVID, which isn't a big deal except that it is very disorganized when there is more than 2 people there - who is waiting on food, who has paid, who hasn't paid, who is ordering, who called their food in. Safe to say, it was messy and frustrating. We were told the food would take 20-25 minutes....40 minutes later our food was ready. It was pretty ridiculous. All that aside, we can tolerate it when the food is worth the wait...but wow. The quality... My husband stated that the gyro burger was "alright" (which he had last time and loved, so it was not as great). He reported it was a bit "flavorless." As for my chicken rice dinner plate - the portions were small for what it costs and the chicken was some of the dryest chicken I've eaten. I had to get a variety of sauces from the fridge to make the chicken edible. After a few bites, I still couldn't eat it and tossed it. Also, their "red chili sauce" that comes with the dinner plates - ITS SALSA. 100% without a doubt not a "chili sauce." I did enjoy the "red chili sauce" with some tortilla chips later. I gave them 2 stars rather than 1 because the rice with the chicken plate wasn't heinous and my husbands burger wasn't bad. Overall, pretty bummed and I don't think we will be back after this really negative experience. read more
