One word: Hashbrowns Full disclosure but these pictures were taken just over a year ago when I was visiting my parents. It's been over a year & I still think about the amazing hashbrowns at this place, that's how good they are. I remember they came out hot & crispy yet soft & fluffy on the inside. I am honestly surprised how many times I have come back to this memory but I simply can't think of a time I had better hashbrowns. When we visit my folks for the holidays I'm going to insist we have breakfast here at least once! Sitting outside under the covered patio is also really nice on a sunny day. No matter if I go to breakfast or lunch, the service is great and the food is delicious.

Used to be good quality food. They are definitely cutting some major corners now. This plate was $18. They are using the precooked bacon and look how much she got. Unbelievable. Also included a picture of the ants that were crawling all over the wall. This will be our last time dining here. It's convenient because it right down the rd from us but there are so many other restaurants in town that are leaps and bounds better. read more

Haven't eaten there in about a 12 to 18 months, as I don't go out for breakfast much anymore. Ate there today and had biscuits and gravy and hash browns. My friend had sausage, eggs, hash browns and toast. He didn't like it but didn't specify why. I noticed he barely touched the hash browns. Just said it wasn't very good. My biscuits were tough on the bottom, thin with no fluff. The hash browns were under cooked. Gravy was just okay. Service was good, but the food was, frankly, terrible. read more

I'd asked for medium and the waitress took it back and another one came back and said it was cooked fine and if I wanted rare instead so I said sure. They came back with this which was well done and dry. Hashbrowns were good. Eggs were like dry ribbons when i had asked for soft scramble. Don't get the eggs or steak here I guess. Man, I don't like leaving poor reviews, but my visit to the Cutten Chalet was not good at all. Started by putting my name on the wait list, I was told 5-10 minutes after almost 20 minutes, and watching no less than three other parties walk in, but not out, I checking in and saw a number of empty tables. After being seated, I was given water and a menu right away, but then sat for another 22 minutes (I was timing by now). Once I ordered, the food was fast, but not great. I stacked my plates and wiped my table, then waited for the check... waited almost 10 minutes before I got up and walked to the reception stand, paid my bill and left. My server was kind enough and apologetic for the wait, while making jokes about it. I really like supporting g local family owned joints, and I hope these guys continue a robust business, but I'll not be back anytime soon. read more

My go to breakfast place for your regular "country breakfast" type fare. Don't expect any frills or fancy dishes. The staff is friendly and the place is a little more spacious than the chalet in eureka. Their pancakes are the best! I usually get an omelette where you get the choice of hash browns and toast or pancakes. It's the perfect amount of food for me. I like the chalet omelete which comes with avocado, bacon and sour cream. Did I mention how good the pancakes are?! The food has always been consistent so far, except for the Spanish omelette (topped with cold pace salsa and cheddar cheese) nothing Spanish about it. The thing about these country breakfast type places are that their coffee is weak. Not this place! Good, medium coffee just like I like. Plenty of creamer flavor options as well. Adorable local diner with friendly staff and great food. My family and I stopped by to get brunch after a visit to the Sequoia Zoo and had a great time. The pancakes are enormous, the crepes are light and fluffy, and the biscuits and gravy are the best I've had on the Lost Coast. A-OK as the star rating goes. Not spectacular but not too bad either. I recently came in for lunch. They offer breakfast and lunch, but I don't think they do dinner. The environment is casual, and very typical for an American diner-style restaurant: Cheap and a bit tacky, but clean. The tables are already stocked in advance with an abundance of creamers and condiments. Servers are pretty attentive and you'll have a hard time seeing the bottom of a cup of coffee. I got a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with fries. It was well-made and grilled to a crispy golden brown. The fries were generic frozen crinkle-cuts. The coffee is watery, but this is the kind of joint that keeps it coming, so you will definitely get your fill. The prices are fair for what you get, the service is adequate, and the place is clean. Between the 3 of us we had the strawberry crepes, sausage, bacon, eggs and hash browns. Everything was cooked wonderfully and very flavorful. We come to the area every few years to visit the national park and oceanside attractions. In prior visits, we would stop at the Chalet House of Omelets off 4th St. and have a few breakfasts there. We learned that location has closed, but this one is run by the same family and of the same vein, so decided to give it a try. We visited twice during our week stay in the area, June '21. On the first visit, we ordered a chicken, spinach, and mushroom omelet, with jack cheese, and a side of buckwheat pancakes. The food was excellent, just what we were hoping for. The buckwheat pancakes were immense, and we took much of it home for a later meal. On our second visit, we changed up the insides of the omelet, opting for bacon this time, and adding green onions instead of the cheese. This too turned out to be a good combination. We were served by the same gentleman on both occasions, and he was attentive to our needs, quickly addressing an issue we raised. One thing we always enjoy when going to the old location or now this one, is the offering of jams. In their selection of Smuckers jams they have one not seen at many restaurants, and that being the Apple Butter. It's a must-get for us each time. The grocery stores where we live don't carry it, nor do any of the local restaurants. So it is something of a little treat to get each time we come out to Eureka. I really like the large selection of proteins and veggies available for the omelets. It allows for a nice variety of combinations to be made. The option for buckwheat pancakes is also much appreciated. Parking here was sufficient. There is an outdoor patio for those looking for the fresh air. read more

The only part of the meal that was mediocre were the pancakes. The consistency was rubbery. Coffee was good. Decor was awful. Contemporary lighting, plastic plants, gaudy fluorescent light covers, a Pegasus statue, ballerina painting and a few more things from grandmas basement. The service was great! Needs outside benches for the wait. Overall it was good and we will be back to try some different menus items. We returned and the French toast was disappointing and the bacon was over cooked :-( As we were finishing our meal a waitress slapped a dirty bus tub on the table to clear a few plates. Nasty!! We have eaten many times at the Cutten Chalet when in the Eureka area. They have a tremendous selection on their menu and the omelettes are the best. Service is fast and friendly. We have sampled a variety of their omelettes and enjoyed each and every one. The hash browns and pancakes are always done just right. On our last visit, we placed our order with our waitress and the omelettes were on the table four minutes later. It's usually busy on weekends so allow that you may have to wait a few minutes for a table from time to time. If you like omelettes, I highly recommend the Cutten Chalet. read more

Won't be going back there... Food is as good as the main/original place on 5th street, but the main difference is management attitude. They didn't tell me to leave, and the poor waiter felt SO bad about having to say something, but his manager, who was micro-managing off the clock ( having coffee in the restaurant with her husband) insisted he tell me that they can't serve me anymore if I come back barefoot. I was OK with leaving a tip (probably would have left more, had I not been flustered by her attitude), because HE was good, and so were all his co-workers, and since she wasn't on the clock, she'd get none of it... Being barefoot is not illegal, there's no health code against it... and what's more, is the psychological aspect: HOW does what I do, or do not wear of my feet, affect the quality of food or cleanliness in a restaurant? This is the second restaurant of the Chalet Empire. The food is good classic American breakfast. There's quite a few servers, and you will be asked if you want a coffee refill every 2 minutes. It really disrupts any conversations you are trying to have and gets a bit old by the time the bill comes. Better than not getting a refil at all I guess.
