We stopped in for Indian Food while traveling through Eureka. Staff was friendly and the menu was broad. Pricing was very decent. We had two orders of the Chicken Tika Masala (mild) and one order of the Lamb Korma (medium). We also ordered the mixed appetizer plate and plain Naan. The proteins were tender but the sauces in both the Korma and Tika lacked real flavor. All of those spices you expect just weren't there. There wasn't any heat in the Korma as well. The Naan were fine and the appetizer plate was good. There aren't a lot of options for Indian food here so if we were dying for it, we'd come back. Wow, I was thoroughly disappointed in every way by this place. Maybe it's a better experience earlier in the day. Don't come after 9:30pm, especially if you're vegan. We walked in last night, and a guy said, "The menu is on the screen," pointing to a TV, and walked away. No one offered to seat us or anything. We had to decide what we wanted, then walk up to the counter to order and pay. Nothing I saw online anywhere said that the menu is drastically reduced after 9:30pm. Very limited options. Many had a "V" next to them, but when I asked if the V meant vegan or vegetarian, they stumbled over it, and the first person I spoke to said, "Everything has dairy." I knew from the reviews that the chana masala was vegan, but he had no knowledge of anything. When we went to the counter to order, I asked the guy at the counter what on the menu was vegan, and he didn't know what vegan was. He asked if we wanted it to eat there or to go, we said eat there. Then they didn't seat us, so we asked if it was okay to sit anywhere and they said yes. We sat ourselves at a table. They brought the food to us served in styrofoam to-go containers with plastic utensils. They did not offer us anything to drink at any point. We eventually asked for water. They never once came to refill it. The food was lousy. Every Indian restaurant I've ever been to asks how you want your food spiced. They didn't. The Chana masala was okay. My partner had the Thali Plate, and ordered lamb masala and chicken masala, but got two servings of chicken masala. Not only did he say that it was the most bland Indian food he had ever eaten, but he found TWO HAIRS in his food. Terrible experience from beginning to end. Being of Indian heritage- I know that some basics go a long way- and if you can't get the basics right., not sure why you are in the service industry!! The chicken biryani rice was stale (could smell the staleness!!) and the parathas was dry and flavorless- I expect taste when eating a aloo paratha. The food could have been 5 stars, but I'd give 4 because their spicy was medium and their medium was mild. Where they really lost was with terrible 2-star service. There were 6 of us, with 7 entrees and a few sides. The waiter made no attempt to give entrees to the people who ordered them. He just stood at one end of the table, while we all figured out who got what and passed down the plates. We also had 3 rice bowls...with no spoons to serve. Visiting Eureka for a few days and tried this Indian restaurant. We are from Sacramento and have a ton of excellent Indian restaurants to compare them to. Service is bad. The waiters hate their jobs and don't even smile. They don't bring you water until you order. The restaurant is dark and dim. Needs more lighting in the place. The food is terrible. Worst Indian food I've ever had. We tried the following: Assorted appetizers-decent but the sauces made it better. Butter chicken-skip this dish. Water down flavors and bland. Chicken tikka masala- got it spicy and it was ok. But like the butter chicken, the flavor was not there and watered down. Garlic naan-did not even have enough garlic and had no cilantro like the menu mentioned. Would skip this also. Rice came with the entrees and it was honestly the best item we had besides the chutney and tamarind sauce. Great decor Food came out hot Lamb Biryani and the Seekh Kabobs were the highlights The Biryani contained roasted shaved cashews which added a nice subtle texture and flavor. I hadn't had a biryani made with the shaved cashews before. They were small enough to not be noticed in the dark atmosphere but they really add a nice noticeable finish to every bite taken. The cashews in the biryani really kind of blew my mind to be honest as I never experienced it before. Since I didn't see or expect it, it came to me directly as a delightful flavor in my mouth! The Lamb Seekh Kabobs came out sizzling and was served with sliced green peppers and a couple of chutneys. I had to let it cool for about a minute before I could bite into one. Nicely seasoned and very fulfilling. We also had the butter chicken which was decent but pretty typical of other places. If I had to nitpick, I would say it could have used a bit more cream / butter. I like my BC more on the rich side than others might want though. That said, it was delivered with the promised "spicy" spice level and was a satisfactory dish if not trumped by our other 2 dishes. We ordered all our dishes "spicy" and all came full flavored with plenty of 'zip to them. The price was pretty decent though the butter chicken served in a bowl was a bit smaller portion than you might expect. We certainly didn't leave hungry though. Our food came with a complimentary bowl of basmati rice that had a pleasant sprinkling of peas mixed in. All in all a great experience and will be a go to for my family when we are in town. Don't come here if you have less than an hour and a half for lunch. They will fill many Doordash orders before ever serving you. Took a while to order, but not unreasonably long. Problem was that - while waiting 45 minutes for my order, the lunch special - I asked several times and was told, "1 or 2 minutes" every time. I've eaten here before and enjoyed the food. Was pretty good, my daughter and I both got the Lamb Korma, she got mild and I got Spicy. I have a mediocre tolerance to spice and after the first bite it mellowed out and was fine, if you like heat you may need to ask for some extra heat. My daughter liked hers as well, the Lamb was cooked really well and the rice was good. The Mango Lassi was yummy and the garlic Naan was decent, I think my only complaint was the weird cup that the rice was served in. Service was timely no complaints there, and we really liked the ambiance and decor. Yes it's a little dark but we found it relaxing and soothing, after eating we were ready for bed. Its the only indian restuarant in eureka city and nearest to redwood national park! Hence, the place gets really busy in the evening especially after 8pm. In $24, we got: - a plate of potato samosa 3/5 (2 pcs) which were just-okay and the side sauces / cabbage salad were pathetic - butter chicken 2/5 good portion size serves 2-3 folks but bland taste. Still here, still open and still making really good Indian food, the Nan bread is great freshly baked and an excellent snack on its own. I'm glad to be able to support them during these covid times. Take out or delivery options only. Call it in and get it to go, fast service on top of it all. By the time I got there it was ready to go packed and fresh to order. Masks are required for entry during this time and writing. No indoor dining at this time as well. Delivery is available for free within a certain range for orders over $35 - if I lived closer it would be a consideration. However, driving to pick it up is worth the effort too. Some of the best Vegetarian options around. The Chana Marsala is an excellent choice, so flavorful and varying degrees of "spicy" by your choice - this is one of my go to dishes here. The Malai Kofta another solid veggie choice as well, creamy rich sauce and nutty full flavors all through this dish and another go to for me, from here. The Butter Chicken is by far one of their more popular dishes and it is another really good full flavored dish again with varying degrees of heat added by your choice at order. This dish is rich and delicious, the creamy sauce is so tasty a "curry" type consistency and ample amount of tender chicken - piled atop Jasmine or Basmati rice - this is another great option at Tandoori Bites.
