I am such an anxious person that even going to appointments can be such a challenge, but the staff at Keelan Eyecare always makes me feel relaxed and welcome. I drive from Tom's River to go here to make sure I'm getting good, honest care. My experience, especially with Ray, was super positive. He was extremely welcoming and talkative (in a good way!) and very customer oriented. He helped me pick through different frames and gave me his honest opinions on them, which I really appreciate! In short, the front desk staff are incompetent and unprofessional and Dr. Keelan has horrible bedside manner and is only looking to upsell services. I had the displeasure of experiencing this when I was scheduled to attend my yearly eye exam. With the new Covid restrictions they advise you to wait in your car and call the office upon arrival. I arrived about 20 minutes early to my appointment so I called in and understood that there would be a waiting period. After about an hour of waiting in my car and no call back I decided to call the office but the line was busy. I tried back a few more times as well as texting the number to no avail and that's when I decided to leave. About an hour and ten minutes after my scheduled appointment time they called me and questioned whether I had informed anyone that I was there and essentially told me that they had forgotten about me. This was frustrating but I was able to look past it taking into consideration the current state of affairs. They rescheduled the appointment and I was able to come in the next day this time without incident upon check in, however when the optometrist entered things took a turn. He entered the room without a greeting or introducing himself. He then proceeded to conduct himself in a very rude and sarcastic manner when I told him I wasn't interested in a contact fitting (which was an additional fee). When I explained to him that I was not happy with the previous recommendation he suggested he replied "whatever". All in all, if you value your time and your dignity do not come here. Best eye doctor experience EVER. Nicest staff. Great protocol for COVID. And amazing doctor. I seriously have never left the eye doctor happier. I had Dr. Martha and she was so kind and so helpful. I met Dr. Martha today and had an eye exam. She was very nice, knowledgeable and caring. I think I finally found an eye doctor I will go back to. Her staff is very friendly as well and their selection of glasses is amazing! I was very happy leaving this appointment Today! Just wanted to add I decided I also wanted contacts for the first time in my life. Dr. Martha and her staff have been so incredibly patient with me and finding the right Rx. Up until this morning I thought I had a pretty good experience at Keelan Eye Care. Yesterday I went for an exam as I have been having trouble seeing at night lately and wanted to get my eyes checked. The staff and Dr. Keelan were friendly. At the end of my exam I asked for a copy of my rx as I didn't have time to look at glasses and found out my insurance doesn't cover "hardware" so I would have to pay completely out of pocket. After speaking to a couple friends, they recommended a website to purchase affordable glasses off of, I would just need the rx and the pupil measurement. I called in this morning and they refused to give me my pupil measurement, they said they don't give that out they just measure and make the glasses you choose. I asked how much their least expensive pair of glasses cost. $80.00 and then average cost after that is $300.00. I just need these to wear when driving at night, not all the time. That's a lot of money for something I will hardly use. I then explained to the woman that this is ridiculous, America's Best will give you a free eye exam and TWO pairs of glasses for $70.00. She didn't seem to care and just said well then you can go there. I spent $50.00 on an exam for NOTHING. I am extremely unsatisfied with the way I was spoken to on phone, and for the fact I spent $50 on the exam and cannot be given my pupil measurement. I have spoken to many of my friends about this who buy glasses online and they have NEVER had an issue receiving their measurement from their dr. I was looking forward to my appointment because the reviews were so high, but I did not receive the level of service I expected. I definitely will not be back, and I will make my friends aware that if they plan on ordering glasses online Keelan Eye Care is NOT the place to go. read more

Overall, a nice facility with cordial and knowledgeable staff. Since it was an in-network provider and I had met my out-of-pocket I didn't worry too much about the tests they performed or their fees until I got my bill. It turned out they did tests which were "not covered" by my insurance and could not confirm that I had met my in-network out-of-pocket so I was stuck with a large bill. I am working with my insurance carrier to get back my some of my overpayment and they should have advised me of any extra "not covered" charges for tests before they were administered. I'm not sure if I'll go back, but if you go make sure you ask about what's covered and what's not. They don't tell you until you get the bill. Surprise. read more

The staff and doctors are very friendly. I was taken care of right away (very little wait time). The office is very clean. The doctors and staff take time explaining things to you. Staff was very helpful in scheduling my appointments. I would recommend this place to everyone. read more

Everything is computerized, and I feel like the latest cutting edge technology is being used. They were very helpful with me doing that horrible glaucoma test (with the air in the eye), and also very patient helping me schedule appointments. read more
