It's only been a few years that we started this trip 1 or 2 times a year: spread fall meet. Since moving to Louisville area it's all about Churchill downs - mind you it's an excellent place. However, we always heard about Keenland; thus we started visiting a few years ago. Its quaint location; the tailgating either at the Hill or Meadow parking or the parking area, the scenery makes this place a comfort zone to visit. It's not huge but it's classic! Knock on wood but we never had a bad weather day going here - yes some luck but we'll take it. The grand stand does sell out early but I ( weather permitting) love the outside stadium seating. You might want to take a folding chair since if you snooze you lose your seating. Yes your seat might be taken if you leave to place a bet. Really it's all fair but a chair will guarantee a seat! Dress up and feel the love!

Coming here is a step back in history. What an incredible property full of history and beauty. The clubhouse is the way to go if you have the in since it is less crowded and the view of the track is lovely and unobstructed. You do have to dress up if you go to the clubhouse but its worth it. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would 100% recommend. Must visit when in town. Relatively easy to get in and out with uber's.

Love this place! Churchill Downs, eat your heart out! We went to the Sping Meet this year and although it was a little chilly, it was still a fun and engaging atmosphere. We parked on the hill/grassy parking area and caught a shuttle bus that dropped us off close to the entrance. It was a bit of a walk due to the improvements and expansions that they are building on to the area. Despite this, the people issuing tickets and the security personnel were pretty friendly and helpful. We ended up entering into the Club House. It was a nice and welcoming with horse paintings and equestrian themed decor all over. They had plenty of sitting areas and a fireplace being operated at that time. We actually went and walked around the areas--where they placed bets, ordered drinks at the bar, and wandered outside to the grassy area where people were standing and watching the races being run on the grassy and dirt tracks. The grandstands weren't as full and the grassy area downstairs also weren't as busy. My guess is that it was due to the cooler weather since it was pretty cold outside. People were still roaming around and enjoying the race festivities. We also got to swing by the gift shop and check out a lot of horse and Keeneland themed items for sale. They did have a hat shop onsite for any men and women that wanted to buy a nice hat for the occasion. We did get to walk around the paddock area and got to see the horses and jockeys as they were getting ready to start the different races. When we left, we did get to see a few of the stables when we were walking to the shuttle bus area. All in all it was a fun time (weather excluded). I'd recommend visiting in the fall or the spring to take advantage of the meets and different horse races. It's a more intimate atmosphere, pretty lively, and a ton of fun!

If anyone is interested, Catholic mass is held in the Sales Pavilion every Sunday at 10:00 AM during the race meets. Donuts and coffee are served following the mass. The general public is welcome. 93

Awesome place for kids on saturdays in October! 8a-10a it's FREE, watch the horses practice! Kids games, arts and crafts, fun giveaways, stickers, concessions, good place to relax, chill and enjoy the track! They have the headless horseman walking the concourse once during that time! The bathrooms are heated so it's nice during the cold months October through march. YouTube: Taylor Grayson 33 headless horseman for video!

Visited for the Fall meet on opening day . So needless to say it was very crowded. The weekends are the busiest. You may want to purchase seats prior to your visit , there are benches and a variety of other place to sit , but come early to find a spot . It's a beautiful racetrack with an old time vibe with groomed and maintained grounds. The whole place is kept so spotless. You can visit anytime even if there is no racing , the gift shop is usually open too . There are plenty of food vendors , with fairly reasonable prices and many places to get yourself a nice drink! We tried their famous bread pudding and the burgoo. The bread pudding was delicious , very sweet and made with bourbon . The Burgoo was more like a soup than a stew but non the less very tasty . Whether you like to bet on the horse or not spending the day here at Keenland is always enjoyable !

I am disgusted how the staff here treated me. The bartender, Rachel, was very rude and talked about other customers to my friends in a very disrespectful manner. Furthermore, I am one of the few people with pigment in their skin here and she refused to serve me because I didn't have a second form of ID? When my white friend who ordered right before me wasn't asked for anything more than a drivers license and was served no problem AND looks my age. So I provided ID and when I did, Rachel switched up because I asked for security. Then, security came & she claimed I was "over served" even though I hadn't been served one drink yet? I felt completely disrespected. I have never been questioned about my ID (which I said to Rachel) and have never had to call security. Then, security said they had to "defer to the bartender" after they spoke to her, which I want to understand, but she had no right because I had done nothing wrong. All I had done was order a drink. Rachel needs to be fired. I am genuinely disgusted by her behavior, as were all of my friends as SHE LAUGHED while we talked to security. I don't even know that to say. As a Mexican girl from Chicago, I would not recommend coming here due to the behavior by Rachel and the security allowing her to laugh as I politely told them that I am just trying to order a drink? I am a 25 years old. OH! And by the way, she told me after 3 minutes of arguing that my debit car could be a form of ID? UM THATS NOT AN ID!! And when I gave it to her, she gave it back to me and said "good luck".. um alright it had my name.... Don't come here and don't order from Rachel. Everyone else was lovely, but sadly Rachel made all of this not worth it. If they don't fire her, wouldn't recommend.

First time going and it was a blast! There's shuttle services that take you to and from the parking areas. My friends and I did general admission which was perfect and we had a blast. Very well kept facilities. Bathroom lines were long but that's expected.

I visited Keeneland mainly for the $6.50 breakfast at The Track Kitchen, but found myself over at the track watching some practice runs. The November Breeding Stock Sale was going on so I got to see lots of horses and fancy trailers. The "campus" is quite lovely with lots of green open spaces, trees, beautifully manicured landscaped areas, and gorgeous buildings. You can take a tour of Keeneland which I didn't know until I arrived. I'm not horsing around when I say this place was racy.

Who doesn't love a day at the races? Begin where they're walking the horses. Horses are beautiful animals, and these are at the top of their game. And don't believe if one relieves himself they will win the race. Not true. To wear or not to wear a hat...that is the question. I say only if you're seated indoors in a dining room. Otherwide expect it to blow away. Actually you can wear just about anything and fit in...from jeans and hoodies to designer with that aforementioned hat. Many food options...from fast food to full fledged dining if you're lucky enough to get in a dining room. Reservations are a must. I bet on all the grey horses, and they were big loser this day. Oh well, there's always next season.

This is 2nd year we been & stayed on the Hill. I love it. Way more laid back. You can tail gate, if you young kids they can play. There is shuttle service to take you to the track. They have a big tent set up, With live music, large screens with race & football game plus you can bet from her to. All at no cost. (Except for wagers) We meet our son & grandkids, They had a blast. We had a great time

My Favorite Things About Keeneland: 1. It's beautiful. From the drive and walk in, to the grounds, to the entire sunny and warm experience. 2. I ate my first burgoo (on top of a hot dog) here. I like burgoo. 3. I won my first bet of the day (which I took erroneously to mean that I'm a gifted gambler, a notion that every other bet I've ever made has disproven).* 4. The people watching. Tons and tons of Southerners decked out in their finest, and in many cases, getting a little sloppy. Even if there weren't any horses running, I'd be content to just drink and watch the crowd. 5. Barbecue as concession food. I will take a pulled pork or brisket sandwich over those awful "nachos" any day. My Least Favorite Thing About Keeneland: 1. The wait for cocktails. The lines were absurdly slow, and I think whoever runs the cocktail program needs to figure out how to streamline this process. ____________ *I won about $25, which I felt great about until one of my friends hit for about $12,000, twice. Turns out he's the gifted gambler.

Have to say we were very disappointed of our experience with our first Breeders Cup event this Nov…read more 2022. I have been to Keeneland many times and have always had a wonderful experience so not sure who dropped the ball here. There was 6 of us that purchased tickets for Sat race in the Silk Lawn Chalet, tickets were $450 / person which included food and table services, TV screen, betting windows, bar and bathroom. Our thoughts were with only occupancy for 2500 people it would be a better experience then the crowds, potential service in general admission for $75. we were wrong..... The TV's didn't work majority of the time, we never saw table service, the bars rain out of water, soda water and many alcoholic beverages. The food was terrible, and the choice of food seemed questionable, pork is the most widely not eaten food, by religious and ethnic groups, and then salmon? which again is a fish 50% like and the rest don't. To add to that considering flu, covid and just the cost of the tickets, you would think they could afford to have people serving at the buffet line. We had two vegetarians in our party and most things were gone, not to mention concerns of health and sanitation. After getting over the fact most wouldn't be eating that day, then the TV's and betting machine went down. Most people I spoke to were very disappointed and were placing bets on their phone. I also spoke to people that had been to this chalet in 2015 and 2018 and said they had a much better experience. Other friends that were in different chalet and general admission, stated a better menu choice, no issues with TV or betting machine. In fact our friends in general admission stated there were some outside food vendors and lines were only about 10 min waits. In summary, based on my conversations, what ever changes you made in 2022 over previous years with the Silk Lawn Chalet were an Epic Fail! What was suppose to be marking one more thing of the bucket list was a complete disappointment! Disappointed from Florida.

Last year all the participants gathered at Keeneland for fantastic food, networking, and learning opportunities, before venturing out to a variety of thoroughbred farms. Audra and I experienced the wonder that is Taylor Made, and although it wasn't my first farm tour, it was one I'll never forget. This year, COVID did away with the large group gathering, but the farm tours were able to take place as scheduled. The majority of farms are stud-centric, but - ironically - at Denali Stud you won't find any stallions or breeding sheds. More on that to come. Founded in 1990 by former New Jersey jockey Craig Bandoroff and his wife, Holly, Denali Stud is a 300-acre mare and foal property - i.e. a nursery - situated in picturesque Paris, KY. So what's with the name? I wondered the same. 'Denali' is a mountain range and Eskimo word meaning 'to aspire to greater heights,' and the word 'stud' is synonymous with 'farm' in Europe. Voila! The four barns, office, and other buildings on the property run almost completely on solar energy. Although the farm has produced many successful athletes, some of their most beloved clients date back to the humble beginnings of the farm. Craig, a passionate outdoorsman, has taken great care to curate a variety of trees around the property, carefully labeling many with their type and year planted. As he and his wife prepare for retirement in Lexington, their son and his wife have begun building their own residence on property. Our tour started at a large, centrally-located field full of mamas-to-be. And let me tell you, swollen bellies won't stop those ladies from stampeding toward you in pursuit of a peppermint and a good cheek scratching! From there we got to visit with mares and foals in an adjacent field, before venturing on to the foal bar - where the magic happens. Each stall was occupied by either a mare very close to (or past!) her due date, or a mother and new foal, and I mean NEW - a couple of the foals were only two days old! Pay close attention when you're walking through the barn, as you may recognize some high profile sires; I counted at least three babies by Tapit and one by Real Quiet. Another nearby barn houses some older foals with their mamas, and pregnant mares with less imminent due dates. While Denali Stud is the most recognizable farm in the family's portfolio, there are two others, both of which take their names from mountain ranges: K2, which is dedicated to maiden and barren mares, and Lotse, a 5-barn yearling division. Our guide was primarily Alexis - with additional input from Aly - and her knowledge of the industry, farm, animals, and many other business facets was really impressive. Passion and enthusiasm likes hers is what gets people excited about tourism, and I'm so glad Denali Stud participated in the event this year!
