I was pretty confident that a locksmith would surely be able to copy a key. In fact, I walked in, the guy asked how many , it took less than 5 minutes and I was out w two copies. Then I get to the cabinet and notice that the new keys don't quite match...I'm no locksmith, but it seemed that a key should match exactly...and it should! The new keys wouldn't even go Into the lock. On my second trip the guy (different from the first) looks at the keys and immediately recognizes that the wrong blank was used...attempt number two. I should've known better, but again, I'm no expert! The guy starts searching for the blank when I see the first guy start talking to him..he actually says, yea, I know it wasn't a match but I thought that was close. Really?? So now I get two new keys...but the guy says, well these are just a little different, but they should work ( yea should!) Of course...they didn't ! My issue is not that the keys don't work...my issue is that these guys are supposed to be experts and they are sending me off w a product that they "think" will work and "close" matches! If you were at a car repair shop and some guy says, yea those brakes "should stop ya" how would you feel??? I would've respected the guys much more had they simply said, hey we can't match that key. Even if they told me up front that they could only try and chances are not good..then leave it to me to decide to waste my time or not. Instead they wasted my time, effort, and money(yea it's not free to just drive to your shop a few times guys!).

It created an extremely uncomfortable environment, and I could not wait for the appointment to be over. I regret not addressing it directly in the moment, but we needed the repair completed and did not feel comfortable risking the technician leaving before the job was finished. Professionalism matters just as much as the repair itself, and unfortunately this experience fell far short.

A recent Tuesday morning around 11 o'clock I stupidly locked my key fob in the trunk of my Miata…read more I called A-1 Locksmith and after 5-6 minutes of on-hold-music, I spoke with the scheduler. After I assured her that I would be able to pop the trunk once in (spoiler alert, I was wrong!) she gave me an ETA of 30 minutes. An A-1 guy showed up about 20 minutes later. He opened up the car door with little difficulty but my trunk latch button would not work, much to my chagrin. And then he said they don't make fobs for my year of car. (A new fob would've cost over $200 bucks at the dealership. And I'd still be stranded) I was gonna be out the $40 cancellation fee for him showing up, which is reasonable, but he wasn't ready to admit defeat. He used his phone to research if there is a trunk release latch somewhere in the car. His first search came up no. He tried again and found another website that showed how to access the trunk release latch in the tiny cab. He worked at it and was able to find it and pull the lever that opened the trunk! I was able to get my fob and drive my car! He went above and beyond. He could've said you assured us that you can get in the trunk once the car is open. But he didn't. He wanted to finish job, and he certainly did so. I am very appreciative of his interest in helping me out and completing the job.

I was shocked to say the least. I was disappointed that he did not mention beforehand how much it would be but then when I told him how shocked I was on the extremely high cost, he said " yea, I get that alot." Don't plan on using again for a simple door knob replacement.
