I recently locked my keys in my 2017 vehicle. It's a key fob so I don't know how or why it locked…read moreitself when key fob vehicles aren't supposed to do this. So I call the locksmith to get a quick quote before I ram a coat hanger in my car. They tell me it's a $19 fee to get them to me and $30 to unlock my vehicle. I said that's a fair price and gave them my home address. Fast forward an hour later. The locksmith calls me and tells me he's on the way. I give him basic information such as the vehicle make and year, list the issue, and describe the location the vehicle is set in (my driveway, lit up with lights). I also let him know I have errands to run and let my other family members know he is coming to pay him while I'm gone and take a family members car to go do my stuff. From there I was told he did the normal thing and unlocked my car while I was gone. When it came time to pay apparently instead of the $50 they told me over the phone it had sky rocketed to $220! My family member asked why did he charge so much when I had told them it would be like $50 and to include a tip. The locksmith said "it's because we never have to open this kind of vehicle". Keep in mind I told him the year and kind of vehicle it was, this wasn't a surprise to him or like he was having to stop a bomb from exploding in my car. Family member told me it took about 15 minutes and he had no problems. I immediately called customer service and played it like I wanted to get a service done by then and they told me the same exact prices of $19 and then the $30. I proceeded to ask why in the world was I charged $220 then for a vehicle that is relatively new and in a safe lit location for him to unlock it in. Customer service response was "we don't know what problems our technician will run into." They then gave me a email to email and said they will ask the technician on why such a high charge for this job. I was told by family members that they may charge extra for a late night service (it was around 9 this happened) so I made sure to ask about the fee and they said there is no fee for it. I'm not mad at the technician as it sounded like I was calling a call center as I could hear multiple phone rings in the back ground so he's just being given the work he's being paid to do. But I am certainly mad about the outrageous upcharge. I understand he has to make a living like everyone else and so does everyone in the company but I would've appreciated the clearness of pricing for unlocking my vehicle. I asked 3 time over the phone for a price and the first time they told me "$15 service call fee then $30 to unlock your vehicle" then the rest were the $19. If I would have known it would have been that much I would have declined the service but he had already unlocked my car. Overall nice technician, just bad customer service and fees they don't tell you over the phone till it's too late.
