This was by far the worst whale watching tour I've ever taken. I've done whale watching multiple…read moretimes before -- in Boston and other locations -- and every other tour actually went out into deeper waters where whales are usually found. This tour, however, barely left the coastline. If whales could be seen that close to shore, I could have just stood on the beach and saved my money. The trip was advertised as 2 to 2.5 hours, but it only lasted about 1.5 hours. Most of that time was spent heading back toward the harbor, and then we sat near the harbor entrance for around 20 minutes just watching sea lions. I honestly don't understand why anyone should pay $50 per person just to look at something you can easily see from the shore. It felt misleading and disappointing. The boat never seriously attempted to go offshore, where whales are actually located. What made this even more frustrating was that I specifically asked the staff before booking whether we were likely to see whales, and they assured me we would. Do not waste your money on this tour.

It just brings me so much joy. There were only 10 of us, which I think is a perfect amount of people for a tour like this, not too full. And Captain Erica drove us right to the action! We were in the middle of Minke whales, humpbacks, and fin whales! Fin whales are the second largest animal on earth! And gorgeous, so sleek. They taught us a lot about ocean life on the ride, I'll never forget this trip. And there were easily hundreds of dolphins and a few sea lions. My cortisol levels dropped to zero, for sure. It was an amazing time and I can't wait to do it again, I hope I'm lucky enough to get captain Erica and Sarah as my hosts then. (No pictures, because I was so in the moment! Next time!)

Each person paid a hefty price for a dinner cruise that never left the dock. 2. The boat is so old it can't even handle being in unstill water. 3. Main floor is extremely hot with no air, cross breeze or circulation. 4. Main floor is very old and dingy looking. I rated it a "3" because an attempt to make things right, by not leaving the dock, they allegedly upgraded us from the bottom shelf alcohol to top shelf. Plus the food was actually pretty good and so was the DJ. I am unconvinced that this boat should even be in business still after our experience.

The pros: * Great music, DJ kept the party lively and played requests. *The food (we opted for the Mexican food option) was actually tasty. It included nacho chips, quesadillas, flautitas, and chicken hard shell tacos. Toppings: guac, crema, salsa. Paper plates, napkins, and disposable utensils were all included. Obviously, right? * The staff was chill and helpful The meh: Since this is an honest review, I must include the following. * The boat is dated. It's more like the Krusty Krab than a fancy yacht. * The boat is dingy and not as clean. It could use a good vacuuming, deep cleaning of the rugs and all surfaces. Some fresh paint could help. New tables and chairs too. It definitely needs TLC! * Not sure what happened but 30 kids and 15 adults went through the food quickly. A few of us had very little to eat and by the time we went for more, the food was gone. No left overs. In summary, we had a great experience just wish the boat had a nicer look inside and more cleanliness. If your looking to host an informal even and just want to have a great time, this is the right boat for you. I wouldn't recommend it for an upscale, black tie event. Ps I think 65 people max is a good upper limit if you want to still be able to dance. We had a GREAT time!

I think some of the reviews seem to miss that and they believe you should walk away full. My group of friends and I decided to actually have lunch at one of the places we were able to taste! They even gave us a discount because we came back after the tour! Yes it is a bit of a walk, but Christa (our guide) had sent out an email the night prior to let us know the best places to park, how much walking we were doing, etc. Overall and amazing tour and am so happy to have something like this nearby! I can not wait to take the tour again and bring a new group of friends!

The lovely ladies that run Flavors of Newport Beach could not be more more helpful. First, we booked last minute. Second, my sister is heavily pregnant and our guide Christa went out of her way to make sure she offered substitutions for anything my sister could not eat/drink. Our needs were graciously accommodated and that was very much appreciated. Compared to other "food tours", this tour offers less to the gourmand but much more to those that want an insider's guide to Newport Beach. The tour lasted about 4 hours and included stops for food for oatmeal, salt water taffy, ahi tuna nachos, olive oil and vinegar, calamari, and ice cream. In between, leisurely strolling to observe noteworthy Balboa Island homes and historic landmarks. I have lived in the area for 15 years and learned a lot of interesting things about Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula. Christa is a friendly and knowledgeable guide. My out-of-town family raved about Christa and what a wonderful time they had on this tour. Points to me for picking to spend our day with Flavors of Newport Beach!!
