This place has been a hit with my "21+" family due to the great food, great location, and usually good service. Minors are not allowed. Our most recent visit yesterday had less than awesome service but maybe she was having a bad day. The building is old with lots of wood paneling ... very comfy. There are several other wonderful restaurants in Fortville which is great for me as I have several choices. I never would have guessed that this tiny suburb would have such epic cuisine!

She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. I could easily become a regular there!!

The food was outstanding, I ordered Linguine Frutti di Mare- homemade linguine ( delicious) served with clams, mussels, scallops? Shrimp, cherry tomatoes, evoo, garluc, parsley cooked in a white wine sauce!!! As you can see I absolutely hated it... lol! I has an expression and lava cake for dessert. The lava cake was a little overcooked- that is the only complaint.... Other than the lady sitting across the table from me that talked loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear her conversation. I wish people would be more observant and realize they don't have to talk so loud when they're sitting at their table it made it difficult to hear the piano player and it went from a relaxing stress free feeling to an annoyance. I was so happy when her food arrived. This place is very special. It's very small. I got in because it was very early in the evening. I believe their doors open at 5 o'clock. The pizza was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor--the kind of comfort food that pairs so well with a good wine. I had forgotten to grab a Coke, and the staff member helping me was kind enough to go above and beyond by bringing me a bottle. It was also 15 dollars. They don't serve table bread for free so I ordered some for $4 and it was about 5 1/2 slices of the same bread they used for the bruschetta. It was served with a bowl of oil with balsamic vinegar. I also asked for my pasta to be saucy and the waitress looked at me and she said, do you mean you want extra sauce? So for $2 extra I feel I got a normal amount of sauce so I'm not sure what a regular amount looks like. Unfortunately the pasta was pre-denté. Everyone else's dishes were steaming hot and the pasta was visibly able to be twirled around a fork. Mine was warm and I had to cut it with a spoon and fork just to get it separated for many bites, which were very chewy, almost hard. The ragù was fine. The atmosphere was nice for dinner. I read some other reviews and they are definitely mixed. One of my friends who had been before warned me after I was excited to initially try the cheese wheel pasta, to be careful. She said hers was wet and vodka flavored, so I didn't get it. Similar reviews said the same. I will say the calamari was some of the best I've had lately.
