I go here every chance I get, and usually forget to take photos of the delicious food! I am so glad i took the advice of the earlier reviews to entice me to try it out the first time (now years ago). This place has been a hit with my "21+" family due to the great food, great location, and usually good service. Minors are not allowed. Our most recent visit yesterday had less than awesome service but maybe she was having a bad day. The building is old with lots of wood paneling ... very comfy. There are several other wonderful restaurants in Fortville which is great for me as I have several choices. I never would have guessed that this tiny suburb would have such epic cuisine! read more

Stopped in for lunch. Downtown Fortville. It never looks like there is a lot of parking downtown, but I've always been able to find a spot fairly close to my destination. I love the small town feel!! The restaurant vibe reflects the town. Everyone is very welcoming. I didn't catch bartenders name, but she was very friendly to everyone at her bar. She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. On my way home from a lovely solo trip, I stopped at FoxGardin in Fortville to get lunch. I needed just one final hour to myself to regroup, eat a Caesar salad and fries, drink a little glass of cold Riesling, and put myself back together. When you've spent days doing whatever you want and going wherever you want without thinking about kids, for the most part, the transition back to reality can be abrupt! FoxGardin seemed like it would be a nice place to stop into before resuming my role as a "responsible adult." And I was right! First of all: My Caesar salad was perfect. Perfect, perfect, perfect. People, get the Caesar. It's made the way it's supposed to be made: with balanced dressing, bite-sized lettuce and croutons (the croutons are made from focaccia), and the best part is they shred the parmesan finely, and it sits on the salad like a soft, snowy blanket. When the parmesan is this fine, it literally melts in your mouth with every bite. It was luxurious and fresh and cold, and went really well with the Riesling. The fries were just OK -- a little too salty and seasoned, but I hardly noticed because I was so enthralled with the salad. The service was top-notch. My server was friendly and flew around the room, efficiently taking care of us all. She seemed to know several of the guests, so I'm thinking FoxGardin gets a lot of regulars. The bar area is dark and intimate, and there are lots of seating options elsewhere in the restaurant. I sat in the covered patio area, but apparently there's also upstairs seating and patio seating. We had a family dinner on a whim and stopped in here. The food was delicious. The portions are huge so you're sure to have lunch the next day as well. I highly recommend the beer cheese soup! Last night was our first time here. While the food, service and ambiance were all very good. I do have something I think should be known about this restaurant. We were told when we walked in for our reservation that "we should've told them that we had a child with us because the restaurant is primarily 21+". Now keep in mind it doesn't say that anywhere on the front of the restaurant and yes they don't have a kids menu but I just thought I couldn't find it. If we lived closer this would be at least a weekly stop for us, if not twice weekly. We walked in without a reservation on a Wednesday evening and were seated immediately. Our server, Phil, was great and came with recommendations. We ordered the garlic Parmesan chicken bites and bread and butter spread for appetizers, both were fantastic. Upon arriving at FoxGardin, my party was met by a person that was unwelcoming and seemed to have an attitude - only to find out this is the General Manager, Bradford. I was ready to leave based on his lack of professionalism and congeniality in the role he represents. Would you believe he never smiled, not once throughout our time there. The only reason we stayed was because the waiter, Chris, compensated for the poor start to our dining experience. The bar section is very well decorated, however we were seated in the back patio room which was very warm and stuffy - no atmosphere whatsoever. We all chose lighter plates as it was lunch time. The food was exactly as described on the menu and was enjoyable. As a visitor from California every year, I must say that although the food was good, I more than likely will not return to this particular establishment. Culinary experience! Bone marrow fries. Who thought of creating it? I don't know, but they were the most savory fries we have ever had. We all chose to get different items and share. The Po Boy stood out with crisp shrimp, soft grilled bun and slightly tangy sauce. The fish tacos packed a mouth full of flavors with every bite. We all had leftovers to take home and really couldn't pick a favorite because each item was so unique and all packed flavor. Our waitress was funny and attentive. My boyfriend loved them. Ive never had bone marrow before and didn't care for them. I had the 7oz steak mashed potatoes and asparagus it was really good. The steak was cooked perfectly. The cocktails were on the expensive side. Every cocktail was $15. I was all the was thrown off when I went to use the restroom. The restroom was trashy! Made it feel like I was in a downtown trashy bar. There was explicit words on a sign hung on the wall. We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while.. We're from out of town and got a referral from a young lady working at Fabletics at the Fashion Mall. It was about a 30 minute drive from our hotel but we're so happy we made the drive. We started with a cocktail, old fashion and strawberry mint martini. Hubs said the old fashion was perfect and simple. No frills but perfectly tasty with a large rock and well made. My martini was perfect with a sugar rim which I really love. We had the seasonal salad which was pears, walnuts, dried cherries, balsamic, quinoa and Gorgonzola but we opted to leave off the cheese. It was absolutely delicious. I would come back just for that salad. We shared a burger and fries and the best damn chicken parm and neither of us were disappointed. We both thought our entree was the better one and we both liked each others a lot as well. David E was our server and he was great. Super attentive without being overbearing. Returned to FoxGardin for dinner in the upstairs bar last evening. Erin took great care of us at the bar, which is our preferred seating. We shared the BBQ bacon shrimp and crab Rangoon dip starters followed by the bakkafrost salmon Oscar style (add $14) and the 12 oz filet with horseradish blue cheese sauce (add $4.50). In an effort to reduce carbs, I opted to replace the cilantro lime rice for the salmon with broccoli -- well worth the $2 upcharge as the broccoli was prepared perfectly! And, I have to say, the bakkafrost salmon was easily the best I've had AND it was a huge portion! Looking forward to returning! read more

This seems to be a local favorite but we have only been a few times. They have a nice beer selection and decent menu but a bit expensive for what it is. It has a bar vibe but upscale restaurant prices for what it is. Probably not our go to but this place stays packed so it's definitely a hit for the locals. Is very savory and satisfying. The surprise star of the show tonight was the bone marrow fries: House cut fries, tossed with bone marrow, truffle oil, arugulas, parmesan cheese and drizzled with balsamic glaze. We were given a recommendation for this restaurant, and so we decided to try it for our date night. Ambiance was wonderful. It was dim lighting, warm, and inviting. Our waitress was very warm and friendly as well. We rated this a 2 star for the food. We started with the bone marrow fries, which I get the appeal of how savory they are. However, our fries seemed almost as though they had been refried or over done because they were hard and hollow to the point i couldn't put a fork into them. The balsamic redux was also a little more vinegary than what a normal balsamic would be. If you like vinegar, you would probably love it. The chicken parm was amazing. I cannot say enough good things. It's a big portion, they're heavy with the sugar so it's nice and sweet, and the pasta is soooo good. The short rib was really what sunk our experience. It's in a Madeira sauce, which tasted exactly tikka masala. It was also cold throughout and tough. It was almost as if they had microwaved it because it was warm on the outside and cold on the inside. For a $35 dish, we anticipate the flavor profile to be good and for the dish to be warm. Overall, we would try it again, but our first experience left us feeling like it's overhyped and not worth the value. But it's super warm and inviting with big portions! read more
