One dog was taken to a vet right outside of DC. Horrible experience, 1 1/2 of giving drugs to a dog who hated them (AND he was a mastiff, just try to accomplish that). Dog recovered from lyme but ended up dying from liver failure from all the drugs. Our next dog that had lyme, we took to Dr. Clark. A quick burst of antibiotics and the dog is still with us and happy 7 years later. I had chronic lyme myself (and healed from it) so I know the ins and outs. I know that some you catch early and they can get rid of it BUT, the first vet did not know what he was doing and continued to give the prescription even after health significantly deteriorated. Dr. Clark has a great sense of intuition about what is going on with the animal. Even though, I knew much about lyme, it was the last thing I thought about, Dr. Clark pinned it right away. Guilted us when we said we would like pain management and would take him home. Then took an hour to bring pain meds in, while telling us we might miss our opportunity for surgery if he went home, and if he did not get surgery he needed euthanasia. Got a second opinion, no surgery, steroid and muscle relaxer and crate rest. Dog was FINE in 4 days (but still on crate rest precautionary for 6 weeks.) Then today brought a sick puppy and the tech came out and asked me to sign a hospitalization form and give a $1500 deposit - BEFORE A VET EVEN SAW HER! I refused asked for an examination. Vet then came in and said they could tell they wanted to admit her - but she had NOT examined yet. Demanded an exam and fecal and fluids. Asked for supportive care so I coukd take her to my regular practice in the morning. Vet repeatedly asked if ahe could admit "for a few hours," and kept telling me puppy was probably going to die and I would end up bringing her back. Techs and vet were very rude when I asked for actual teating and exams. Never again.

I am very pleased with the way my dog is treated with them. I started going to this vet office before Dr. Terry retired, who I thought was an amazing vet. Dr. Maureen has done a really great job in taking over the practice. My pup saw her a lot before Terry left, and now we've seen more of Dr. Michelle. They do what my pup needs and are very pet oriented. I've never felt uncomfortable or off when they take my pup back for tests. I noticed a negative review in regard to wait time, however, the wait time is typically MUCH less wait time than my own health appointments, but there are occasions where it's right on time. Perhaps because they are so thorough appointments take more sometimes. I don't mind a little wait if I know I'm getting quality service at a fair price. I think the same reviewer complained about price too, but it's half what I'd pay in NVa with everything else being commensurate. Also, I boarded my dog here one time and he seemed happy when I picked him up. Good sign. (I hate boarding my "loneliness therapy dog.")

We had new patient checkups on both and I recently had a follow up for the old man. Dr. Lisa is a gentle soul with him ( and probably every animal ) and wants to do everything in her power to make him comfortable. However, she is not one to over prescribe nor to order every test available. Such a conservative approach is very welcome. And she actually listens to me as a dog mom and takes my wants ( and budget!) into consideration.
