I can't say I'm a big fan of going to the dentist, but after two years without a cleaning or checkup -- despite having dental insurance for the past year -- I finally sucked it up and made an appointment. I had the name of a guy in Addison, but it turned out my insurance no longer covered him. Having made my mind up to go one way or another, I looked again and Dr. Kellner was the closest option. So I went with it. The office has sort of weird hours, which is both good and bad -- good because you can get an evening appointment (or weekend) but bad because it's irregular -- they're only open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and alternating Saturdays, and not "normal business hours" so calling for an appointment was a bit of a hassle. But, I did finally make one, and so at 5 p.m. on a Tuesday, I headed in with some trepidation -- not only because I'm not a real big fan of the dentist, but also because I read some reviews elsewhere on the internet that made me a bit wary. Well, the dentist herself -- because I had Dr CRYSTAL Kellner, who is probably related somehow to Donald -- was very nice, my teeth are shiny and clean, and I felt pretty well taken care of. It's not the nicest office around. The building is clearly stuck in 1974, the office in the early 80s. If you're looking for massaging chairs, cheery kitten posters or flat-panel TVs, this is not your dentist office. Next time, I'm using my iPod. Pluses: + Dr. Kellner did the cleaning herself. After years of having a hygenist do it all, that was a nice touch. + Knowledgeable, helpful, told me I had "pretty teeth" (they're hardly the picture of perfection, but I'll take the compliment) + Extended hours including Saturday. + They take my insurance Minuses: - Not much to look at, old office, no fancy touches and not even a free toothbrush - Seemed a little behind and disorganized -- I spent a good 15-20 minutes just sitting in the chair at various times All in all, a low-frills dentist office close to home. read more

Drove over a hour to get here and had tooth surgery cause this place was recommended. Severe severe pain after and couldn't open my jaw for days or eat or sleep. Worst throbbing pain ....... 12 Tylenol 3 they gave me and that's it what a joke. They don't care about patients or how much pain they are in. I explained how bad I'm suffering and nothing, no help. Just a heads up to anybody in the Wood Dale area, or anybody who has used, or is thinking about using Dr. Kellners dental office in Wood Dale on Wood Dale Road (from what I saw, they also have an Aurora location)... DON'T!!! RUN AWAY FAST AND FAR!!! The dentists are gross, dirty, and unkempt... Just like the entire office and the building it's in!!! It's on the second floor with from what I can tell, no elevator. The assistant who took my xrays used a shaky xray machine, I can't imagine they got a single good image, the chair was old, and I could literally see the front desk from the chair because there are basically no dividers or walls between anything. Behind my chair was what looked like an old, dirty, cluttered computer desk, I couldn't believe this place!!! This was all just at my first appointment, however I gave it a chance and came back for a root canal because I didn't have a lot of time to get a lot of work done... That was a mistake, I should've gone with my gut!!! The male doctor, Dr.Kellner, looked like he hadn't bathed in days and was wearing dirty shrubs. As soon as he sat beside me, HE BURPED IN MY FACE without even apologising, and the assistant didn't even acknowledge it, like this was a common thing!!! He didn't wear a mask or gloves, and ew, his hands smelled like he had been digging in his pants all day!!! They didn't even have a proper headrest, they put a freaking roll of paper towels behind my head!!! Needless to say, I NEVER went back and cancelled all my appointments, and begged my insurance for a REAL dentist to do the rest of my work. Out of concern for how bad this place was, I just went to a GOOD dentist today, only to find out that the "VERY SIMPLE" root canal "doctor" Kellner (I say doctor loosely) did on my front tooth was done incorrectly!!! So now I'm paying more, financially, with my time, pain, and patience, to get this fixed because they're incompetent!!! I'm planning on filing a grievance not only with my insurance, but with Illinois Medicaid (because they use them also), the American Dental Association, American Medical Association, and anybody else that will listen!!! I am SOOOO angry, I'm even looking into taking them to small claims court!!! Needless to say, beware!!! They also have an office in Aurora, so pass it along to anybody you know!!! The ONLY way I would recommended this place is if you have little or no choice to go ANYWHERE else (I can't imagine anybody WANTING to use this place, really!!!), if you're an illegal immigrant, or if you're looking for pain pills because they were quick to give those out!!! Please please PLEASE, I suggest looking harder and deeper for someone better!!! I made the mistake of waiting till the last minute to find a dentist that could see me, and this is what I got!!! The only reason they were able to get me in so fast is because they are so bad!!! The ONLY good thing I can possibly think to say is that the assistants and staff (that I dealt with, aside from the woman you check in with, and the actual dentist's doing the work) are very nice, pretty, clean looking women and I highly suggest they find a better place to work because they truly deserve better, and can get better!!! I wouldn't want my name associated with this place and would be embarrassed to work for these slobs!!! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE!!! Bad bad bad. He butchered my mom and she wound up in the ER. He was barefoot in his office and both hands were shaking the entire time doing the procedure. What dentist does that. Five days later and her face is still numb. ER and new oral surgeon said he did damage and the job was very botched. Stay away unless you plan to have botched work or worse. She has to have surgery to fix the damage he did. All the work has to be redone but they have to wait two months now because he exposed the bone and tore the bone tissue away and damaged nerves. It's been over a week and her face and mouth are still numb and completely painful. Other surgeons cannot believe what was done and said they don't know if she will ever get the numbness to stop. It may be permanent now but they have to wait to see if it gets better. Stay away!!! Insurance has been notified of what happened. Hoping they remove him from in network list so nobody has to have him again. read more

Strangest experience I have ever had at the dentist. The building is old, no elevator. The walls are falling apart. The moldings are held on with packing tape in the office. The x-ray arm was still bouncing when the assistant took the shots for my bitewings. Since I never saw the results, I have no idea if they even came out. No one introduced themselves. No one ever said what they were about to do to my mouth. Dr. Kellner (I can only assume it was he, because he never said so) did, indeed, do the cleaning himself. It was very quick. I do not consider this a bonus. I consider it a less-than-thorough job. And his hands shook through the whole thing. If he had hurt my gums in any way, I would have stopped him and left. But I think he avoids the gumline as much as possible so he doesn't hurt the gums. I definitely needed the protective glasses; there was so much splattering. He never asked if I floss. Didn't tell me not to eat for half an hour or anything. Didn't go through the x-rays. Just "you're done. Bye." Just bizarre. But I'm giving 2 stars for the fact that he didn't do any damage, and my teeth probably have less tartar on them than when I arrived. I'll be switching to another dentist in 6 months. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTAL OFFICE. If there were a zero star option I would select it. I went to see Dr. Crystal Kellner on September 30th 2020. The reason for the visit was a filling that had fallen out of my molar #2. I called the office on Friday the 26th and the receptionist notified me that the Dr. would not be able to see me until the following Wednesday the 30th. I was worried about having a hole in my tooth for too long and I asked the woman if she had any sooner appointments. This is when she told me that the Dentist only works on Wednesdays and that she couldn't make time where there wasn't any. I said okay and asked her what I could do in the meantime to keep the hole clean and safe. She said she couldn't advise me on that sort of thing so I resorted to Google. The receptionist was very dismissive and did not help me with any of my concerns. I was concerned but figured the dentist's office knew best. Fast forward to getting the filling replaced, to my knowledge, everything went well. It wasn't dissimilar to any other filling I've gotten done and nothing occurred during the procedure that made me concerned. That is, until it was over and I walked up to the receptionist desk to pay. The dentist said something to the effect of: by the way, I had to drill pretty deep and although I didn't touch your nerve, it could still become disturbed and you might need a root canal or extraction. I was a little taken aback as I am 23 years old, take care of my teeth very diligently, and have never been told this by a dentist in my life. But again, I figured the dentist knew best. I figured she was obligated to tell me this information and since she said it so nonchalantly, it was unlikely to actually happen. So I went on my way. Little did I know, things were about to take a turn for the worst. About 2.5 weeks later I began to feel pain in that same tooth. It was still a little tender from the filling so I figured I had chomped on it too hard while eating or clenched my jaw too hard the night before. I told myself I would call the next morning if it still hurt. I took some Advil and went to bed. The next morning the pain returned with a vengeance. It was more painful than the night before so I took some more Advil and called the dentist. It was a Friday again but I though maybe the Dr. would make an exception and take me in an emergency. No cigar. The receptionist again told me the Dr. could not see me until Wednesday. I went to work and decided I would call some other dentists in the area to see if they could take me sooner. By lunch time the pain had become unbearable and I went to my manager, sobbing in excruciating pain, and told her I would need the rest of the day off. From then on, the pain only got worse and became impermeable by any type of painkiller. I ended up seeing another dentist who prescribed me antibiotics for the infection and painkillers (800mg ibuprofen & tylenol Codeine #3). The ibuprofen eased the pain for no more than 1 hour and the Tylenol codeine didn't work at all. I ended up going to the ER where they gave me a lidocaine shot which worked, but only for about 1.5 hours. I could not sleep for 3 nights. Fast forward to yesterday October 20th, I got an emergency appointment with an Endodontist who performed a root canal. He notified me that the dentist who replaced the filling (DR. CRYSTAL KELLNER) left behind decay and bacteria before sealing it with a new filling which caused the infection in my tooth. Dr. Crystal Kellner charged me $50 for a filling that she KNEW would not hold, dismissed my pain, and caused me to spend an additional $180 on a root canal I would not have needed otherwise. I will be filing a complaint with my insurance company and will insist that this unprofessional "Dr." be dropped from the network. I will also be contacting the state dental society and state dental board to strip her of her license to practice dentistry. read more

I went to see Dr. Krystal Kellner, daughter of Donald. She was listed on my insurance provider list. I had just completed a full root canal w/ gum line lengthing so I went to her to have a crown placed on the tooth. After weeks of waiting for the permanent crown to come back, they took an xray and advised me to go back to the dentist that had completed the root canal b/c it looked like a fracture. Long story short, the root canal dentist showed me before & after photos of my tooth prior to her touching it....my tooth had been drilled down to the point where there was no tooth left and now has to be pulled. Went back to Dr. Kellner and was greeted w/ passive aggressive behavior from her and the receptionist and no explanation, acknowledgement or apology of why my tooth had been drilled down. Do not use this office! They don't have integrity nor aptitude to do dental work. read more

Similar to what the over reviews said, stay FAR away from this place! I have been with one dentist, in Skokie, my entire life up until 17 (I'm now 18), she was absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately I had to switch dentists because my family's insurance changed & this dentist (Kellner & Associates) was the only place they referred us to. First of all, coming from a dentist that was pretty high-end, I was extremely uncomfortable with this new dentist from the start because of how unkempt & poorly maintained this place looked, if I'm being honest, it smelt like hotdogs in there. Gross, haha. I wish that was as bad as it got. I was told I had a small cavity in one of my teeth, & because it was so small it could be done quickly & without numbing. (Keep in mind this was my first ever cavity I had no idea what to expect). I came back to get the drilling done & Dr. Kellner (female) was not only very rough with my small mouth, but it hurt terribly!!! (but I assumed that's how it was supposed to feel!). Two weeks post-drilling, my mouth was STILL hurting. At that point I begged my family to take me to a new dentist because I had a feeling being in that kind of pain for that duration of time was NOT normal. Fast foreword to now, I'm at a new dentist, which I LOVE. BUT, came to find out, after x-rays, that Dr. Kellner drilled completely down to the nerve on the tooth that was SUPPOSED to contain a small cavity, with no numbing, & I'll eventually need a root canal because of it. You walk and go up to the second floor, I dont know if there is an elevator I am sure somewhere there is. Top of stairs make a right and you walk into a small waiting area, there is a TV Im sure if you ask them they would turn it on, but they have music running throughout the office. I was a new patient, filled out the 2 forms and waited for my name. As I sat there a Man came out of the back and greeted me and said it should only be 15 min. Found out later that was Dr Kellner. I waited and it was about 15 min... I was my turn. ( I had not been to a dentist for over 3 years) I was nervous as is everyone I think with the dentist. All the noises the unknowing of what is happening in your mouth! I was taken to an open room, most rooms did not have doors the assistant was nice very pleasant she took the ex-rays and then within a minute Dr Kellner came in. He was nice - small talk, I am not very talkative to begin with so I generally do not make much conversation with strangers. He started the cleaning. He was wearing gloves and there was no odor - I had read that in other reviews when I was researching. He does have a shaky hand but you could not tell during the cleaning, it did not hurt and I was never uncomfortable! It took about 15 min for the cleaning and when they took off my bib I said that cant be it? He laughed and said your teeth are in great shape! After reading all the reviews about this dentist I felt really good when I left! And I will be going back. If you are the type of person who needs a great big waiting room with fancy decorations to approve of a dentist then go elsewhere. If you want a dentist that treats you decent and with as little pain as possible then I suggest trying Dr Kellner. read more

I've been seeing Dr Kellner (Donald) since the late 90's and his daughter Crystal in Aurora since 2013 and both are exceptional dentists. In addition to regular checkups, I have had him fix previous cosmetic work done by another dentist that I have yet to have any problems with. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews for him, yes he may appear a bit unkempt at times, but don't let that mislead you into thinking he is not skilled at what he does. read more

I agree with some of the other reviews on here stay away from Dr Kelner dentist OC Ed his office is outdated he does have a very unsteady hand and stabs you in places where you shouldn't be stabbed he didn't even wait for novocaine to begin extractions. I had several teeth in my mouth that I should have seen it oral surgeon 4. But instead he attempted to pull all of my teeth because I needed dentures. Which is what I went there for originally. When he went to pull my top teeth he didn't wait for the novacaine nor did he give me nearly enough to numb the area. He began to pull my teeth and I felt it and tried to tell him and he got angry with me because I needed more Novocaine like it was such a big deal to him to have to use that stuff on me. Once they were pulled he put the Denture in my mouth I kept it in for 24 hours couldn't do it any longer. The pressure of the swelling was just killing me and all the birds on the plate we're digging into my sore tender gums. And someone mentioned in these reviews that he had a terrible body odor and looked as if he never took a shower or use the razor or even a hair brush or comb his Smock would look like it hadn't been washed for months the older that came off him was disgusting then when he couldn't complete his task without giving me the patient and attitude I should have realized at that point that this was not a good match for me. He is not a professional person by no means this man should not be practicing dentistry in anybody's office let alone his own. Now he has grounded down my dentures so much that there's no way they'll even fit in my mouth at this point he has them completely twisted teeth are not lined up and they're all the same size grounded down so bad but there's nothing for them to hold on to. And now my insurance paid for these dentures that are completely unbearable and possibly on replaceable. I am a 55 year old woman who now has to go through the world with no teeth because of this non-professional person comma and that's being nice. To top it all off on my last visit he got verbally abusive with me threaten to me with a grinding tool while his assistant Kelley was threatening to call the police on me. When I said that was it he was not going to continue to abuse me like that that I was done with his services he sat down and began to grind down what was left of my denture. I continue to ask him for my denture back while he ignored me. After several attempts of asking he swung around in his chair and screamed at me again if you touch me I'm calling the cops. I told him I was crazy I told him he was the nutcase here. He finally returns my teeth slam them into my denture cup and told me to get the F out of the office. Bio means I complied. But before I left I made sure I mentioned to this idiot that I was turning him into every it all possibility places. So I've contacted the police da da the Better Business and federal regulations and procedures. The more complaint we can show on this dentist it will force the American Dental Association to run an investigation on this office and this dentist and his assistants. So please feel free to voice your complaints to these particular places let's get this SOB locked up in jail or Worse have to pay back our insurance companies. read more

A few months back my husband had a crown that was placed over his tooth. This crown came off 3 times. He was frustrated and sought a new dentist. The tooth had no tooth left to hold a crown because it had been grind to much. The dentist he went to told him they had done a very bad job and that he would do everything to fix the mess. He did a great job of fixing it. Any how the tooth ended up costing a lot more than normal because his insurance did not cover the crown and work that was done wrong the first time. A lot of wasted time and unnecessary expense. Very disappointed! read more

not sure why some ppl had negative reviews but I went to dr.kellner for regular check up for my children and I. The staff was really friendly, i hadnt been to the dentist in years and of course needed a lot of work. Dr.kellner showed me my cavities on the xrays and explained everything to me. Iwas a nervous wreck going in and the staff helped me relax, the girls where all very nice. I got all my work done with him and Dr.Crystal after multiple visits and haven't had any problems. STAY AWAY!!! I tried this terrible place because they took my insurance. I should have went to my regular place. I can get past the dated office and equipment, but the skill level of Donald Kellner, who was in wrinkled scrubs, unshaven and looked like he hasn't slept in a while, is poor at best. He did a terrible job on one filling which was not completely filled and left a gap between the tooth and filling where decay continued to grow. The other filling was on the wrong place on the tooth, leaving the real cavity untreated. I just got back from my regular dentist, and everything is fine now. Dr. Kellner has a wobbly hand. When he picks up the drill, that elbow and wrist twisting and hand wobbling is unnerving. I should have gotten out of the chair and left, but I didn't. I'm not trying to be mean about people with a disability, but shouldn't steady hands be a requirement for practicing dentistry? I didn't get flossed afterward to see if flossing was possible, which was not. I didn't even get a rinse! I walked out with gritty stuff in my mouth and rinsed when I got to the car. Donald Kellner even made a joke about how much my regular dentist was going to charge and how expensive he is. The old saying about getting what you pay for fits. STAY AWAY FROM DR. We have been going to the Kellners for about one year without incident. We have not had any problems getting appointment when needed. The office staff have been nice. However our opinion changed somewhat the other day. My younger son had some oral surgery done...and when we called a week later about a concern, my son left town without his antibiotic.. Dr. Kellner( male) was abit rude on the phone. He did not even really even deal with the concern we had. Simply just said...if my son was doing fine then have a good weekend. Awful. He overcharged my husband for a wisdom tooth extraction--to be refunded--and conveniently "lost" his chart. I went in for a simple filling replacement and with the shoddy work Dr. Kellner performed, I ended up with a terrible infection, which led to a root canal. Don't judge a book by it's cover! Isn't that what we get told over and over again?? Well, DO NOT JUDGE on appearances of the building/office! The staff courteous respectful and helpful answered all my questions and laid it out flat..no run arounds! It's what was best not only dental wise but monetary wise! Both Doctors are straight to the point! Have work done by both of them and NOTHING HAS FAILED! What the patients want may not be what's best for them and working in a medical setting myself I would rather lose a patient than lose my certification and I am sure that's how these fun dentists are! Everyone has their expectations on what dentistry should be...but I like real, I like straight to the point, none of this lets remove your amalgam fillings and get you white fillings. If it's not broke why mess with it!?! If you're too high maintance and need tip top celebrity style dentistry ok they may not be for you, but if I want someone reliable, who works around my time, who refers me to colleagues who they have been to themselves, and take care of the insurance hassles, I am staying with Dr. Don and Dr. Crystal Kellner!!!! read more

I can't even begin to explain how much of a nightmare going to Dr. Kellner has been. I went because I had a cracked crown that needed to be fixed. He numbed me up leaned over to begin working and although this had nothing to do w/his actual work it still makes for an uncomfortable experience when the body odor coming off of him was so bad and you had no choice but to breathe out of your nose and inhale it. When he picked up the drill and brought it closer to my mouth is when I should have followed my gut and left. His hands are so shaky. The drill was bouncing off of my teeth. Fast forward to fitting me for my temporary crown. He made a few attempts to put it on. Then switched to some metal cap. He struggled some more then TOOK HIS GLOVES OFF AND STUCK HIS FINGERS IN MY MOUTH!!! HE DIDN'T WASH THEM OR ANYTHING!!!! I was disgusted and mortified. Still I didn't say anything because the man has a drill and is working on my mouth. Needless to say I paid my $458.00 went on my way. Five minutes later something doesn't feel right. I look and my gums are all cut up and bleeding. I'm sure its due to his unsteady hands and holding a drill. My drilled down tooth is completely uncovered and the metal cap is laying against my cheek and my gum. Not even on my tooth. I couldn't go back because I was the last patient and due to weather conditions they were closed the next day. Needless to say I decided to go to a different dentist because the thought of him going anywhere near my mouth again was horrifying. New dentist said my tooth was filed down so far a crown would never stay on. I couldn't even try to save it with a root canal. My only option was to get the tooth extracted. Needless to say. He refused to take any responsibility for his actions and my insurance company had to reimburse me the full amount. They've noted the incident for their records and if they get anymore he will be dropped from their network. Next step is the American Dentist Association. He should not be practicing. My review is similar to many. He wasn't just having an off day when working on me. Plenty of the same sort of reviews have been written. You have to stop and think. If he has horrible body odor, scrubs that looks like he picked up off the floor and will work on you w/out gloves what other unsanitary things is going on in that office. How can I trust he's even using clean instruments. Please save yourself and go to a different dentist!! read more

The dirtiest Dentist and office I have ever seen. Extremely rude, didn't bathe, didn't shave and was disgusting. The Dentist pulled a tooth, leaving a huge piece of bone sticking out of my gum. I called the emergency line and talked to Jan, she said the Dentist would call back within 30 minutes. Over an hour later Dr Kellner called and said if the bleeding didn't stop to go to the emergency room at the hospital. He said he would call in a few hours to see how I was doing and would meet me at the office at 7pm to smooth down the bone that was sticking out of my gum. Not only did he not call back to see how I was doing, he blew me off and never finished the job he was paid to do. I had to go to another Dentist and pay to have the job finished correctly. Dr Donald Kellner is by far the most unprofessional Dentist I have ever met. I will file suit to get my money back for having to go to another Dentist to complete the job. read more

I went to this dentist to have a tooth pulled and 2 1/2 months later i am still dealing with the complications. Dr Kellner left roots in which required a few procedures to take care of. Office was dirty and while taking the tooth out he was very violent. At times i thought he was going to give me whiplash. If i moved in any way because of the pain i was in he would jerk my head violently back towards his stinky dirty clothes and yell at me for moving. I will never go to this dentist again read more

Stay far far away from this place!! I had many bad experiences here and finally kicked them to the curb. Dr. Kellner is the most unsanitary dentist I have ever experienced. They leave their paper towels on the window sill to collect dust and who knows what else. Dr. Kellner will drink his can of pop with his glove on or off while working on your teeth. Absolutely unsanitary!!! He has a shaky hand and had jammed tools in my mouth to make me bleed. No apology or anything. He always smelled of B.O as well and that is not something people want to smell while getting their teeth done. This is the best of them all.... All the work I had that was performed at Dr. Kellner needed to be redone. He was leaving small gaps in my fillings so I would need a crown/root canal... I had to repay thousands of dollars to get my fillings/crowns etc replaced with good state of the art crowns/fillings from my new dentist. The new dentist showed me the proof with his state of the art technology he has, unlike Dr. Kellner who is still using his toothpaste filled chairs from the 70's I really should of filed a lawsuit against this place. They should be thanking their lucky stars that I didn't. STAY AWAY unless you like crappy work and throwing money down the toilet. read more

I was in over the weekend with a massive toothache :/ my tooth had broken off and i couldnt get into my regular dentist. I called dr.kellners office saturday morning praying they could get me in. the receptionist was really nice and said they could see me that same day. looking at some of the reviews i was hesitant but i still went. The office wasnt too modern but the staff was very nice. i filled out forms and they took me in withing 10 mins. doctor kellner was very nice to me, he explained that i could either get a root canal or pull my tooth. i o pted to pull it. His assistant was also very nice i was scared but she was very patient and helped alot. he numbed me (worst part but who likes shots lol).. he waited ten mins til i was numb and started to pull my tooth. i can tell he has pulled out many teeth before my tooth came right out without even knowing it! i am so grateful to him and his office. i highly reccomend them!! read more

Save yourself a head ache ,, Find someone else .... d, Kellner has a shaky hand ,, I got very scared ,, I asked him what was up with that and he started a aww geez type of thing and the meds havn`t kicked in yet ... What if he had a sharp instrument in his hand and shoved it in my tounge or gums !!!! I needed two teeth pulled and decided to go with the oral surgeon.. Well,, They never told me that doctor didn`t accept my ins. and I was going to eat all the costs myself.. I took an $850 dollar bath... Long story short,, I confronted them about it and got the expected run around and hoo haa from them .. I caught Kellner and the receptionist in a bold faced lie ,, Then the little assistant decided she was going to come to the rescue and told me I should have done my homework,, I looked at her and said " So you knew you were going to stick it to me by not telling me the surgeon didn`t accept my insurance ??? She just sat there with a stupid look on her face .. Kellner said we just try and help people here ... I asked him do you really think you helped me now ??? Stay away from this guy... Unacceptable and unprofessional service by Dr. Donald Kellner. Save yourself the aggravation and look for another dentist. I've had too many unfortunate incidents with this dentist that I have moved on. First, it's hard to believe this man is still a medical professional. He needs to retire. His hands shake horribly. While administering novocaine shots his hands were shaking so bad that he released more of the drug into my mouth than into my gums. He is rude, foul smelling, argumentative and his work is shoody at best. I called his after hours number due to serious pain in a molar and first thing he says is "I'm not giving you any pain medication, so don't ask". I said "that wasn't why I was calling. I'm in a lot of pain and need some help." He starts rambling on about how they are cracking down on street drugs and how people call him saying they are in pain just to get narcotics. I said "ok I understand, but I need some help." He told me to "take ibuprofen and sleep on it. Call my office tomorrow". He never asked about my symptoms, if I had any recent work done, provided any recommendations for relief or suggestions on what could be causing the pain. He just accused me of trying to get pain meds. Based on the tone of his voice, he was extremely irritated that I was calling him. If you don't want patients to call you then DON'T leave an after hours emergency number! And another thing...when people do call you after hours, have the professional courtesy to answer the phone with "Hello" or "Dr. Kellner" not "YA". I followed up with a different dentist the next day, turned out I had a massive infection that went up into my sinus cavity. I was in serious pain for 28 straight hours. The endo I followed up with said the infection started from a crown that Dr. Kellner worked a month earlier. The crown didn't fit probably (margins weren't high enough) causing bacteria to get into the tooth canal causing the infection. I ended up having to have the tooth pulled. All this two months after paying for a root canal and a crown. Aside from this review, I have reported him to the district dental board of Illinois. On a side note, his daughter Crystal, who works for the same practice, is a much better dentist. I've seen her a few times and her work is good and her side manner is great. Unfortunately, I believe her father is ruining her professional reputation. read more
