My friend Amy Rodbell, who is chic, sweet and runs a great jewelry line, asked if any of her local friends would be available for a photo shoot to model the newest items from her business, Swell Caroline (see my review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/swell-caroline-atlanta#hrid:aizeSyXjsoSNIws-Vzf9Tg/src:self) and we got a fabulous photographer/SCAD grad and amazing - seriously! if I could only do this to myself!!! - makeup artist to boot. Did I mention Amy let us pick an item to take as our "searcy" for our time? What more fun could I have on a non-work-Monday, I don't know....Back to the makeup . . . Kimberly, first of all, is just awesome. Someone with whom you'd want to be friends. She's real, funny, and totally puts you at ease. She even dealt with her boyfriend's doctor's appointment before our shoot and made it in great shape (ie, sans stress though I'm sure she was worried, and we all asked after him) and was so fun all day long. And the day got hot! (This is gonna be a loooong hot summer in Atlanta, if the current temps are any indicator) MAC, and all the other goodies. Kimberly's time at Entebello and since then now on her own (she does a lot of weddings and loves to, and does them for high-to-low but definitely works with the best wedding planners and event places so if you're in the market, check her out), she is delicate and careful with the "palettes" she creates on your face. I NEVER have my makeup done (I don't think I've had it done since my wedding in 2002, by Aric Castleberry, who's no longer in Atlanta but whom I grew to love and trust completely, and with whom Kimberly is a colleague) but I felt so pretty today!! Yes, it got hot and sweaty, but she fixed me up as needed, and I even went home for a quick nap before my event tonight - and my eyeliner was still perfectly in place after. Love her! Quala works by herself, no staff and is pretty loud and unprofessional When she did my lashes, she charged me what a salon would... and she did them in my living room.... not very spa-like.... I think her application process is unsanitary... she ran a lighter through the tweezers that she used on my lashes!!!!!.... i was shocked. also, just from one professional to another... leave your son at home when you see clients.... its a total turn off... my house isn't a day care and it ruins my experience when you have to discipline him while i'm paying you 30-something dollars. there's nothing lavish about having to hear your kid whine. she doesn't accept credit cards, cash only which is a little odd to me if she's charging over $100 for "lash packages" as her website claims. Susan explained the entire process and took her time measuring and marking my brows. She gave me a couple of brow shape options and I picked the one I liked most. She used the pictures I had sent for her review and her customized brows were just as beautiful as the ones I would spend 30-40 minutes drawing. The environment and clinic bed were both comfortable and the music selection was pleasant during my appointment. She maintained touch points with me to ensure I was comfortable and to see if I needed a break. I was so comfortable I took a little nap. Once she was done, the brows were beautiful. The healing process was awesome for me. I followed her instructions and used the at home care products as she instructed. I went back for my 6 week touch-up appointment. I thought it was only going to be 30 minutes because to me the brows were perfect. Susan is such a perfectionist that she took as much time as the initial appointment adjusting the color and filling in where it was needed. I didn't think my brows could look any better but Susan outdid herself once again. Sadly, my experience with Karisma Beaute Effect has gone downhill each time I returned. While their bio promises "effortless beauty" and "flawless results," the reality was far from it for me. After my first appointment for Ombre Powder Brows, I was initially happy -- but when I came back for a touch-up, the service felt incredibly rushed. The technician barely consulted with me, and the results looked uneven. I brought up my concerns, but they were brushed off as "normal healing." Spoiler: it wasn't. I also tried their needleless lip filler service later, thinking maybe it was just a one-off bad day. Big mistake. The lip plumping results were inconsistent -- one side of my lips looked fuller than the other, and when I asked about it, I was told to "wait a few weeks" for it to settle. Weeks later, the imbalance was still there. Whatever was in it broke my lips out bad, I developed cold sores too I don't know if they properly disinfect their material. Overall, the quality, care, and attention to detail just aren't consistent if you're planning to be a loyal client. They seem more focused on cycling through new customers than building real, lasting relationships with the ones they already have. I wish I hadn't wasted so much money trying to "give them another chance." There are too many better, more professional places out there -- don't make the same mistake I did!

Since its winter and I don't have to deal with Atlanta's infamous humidity, I've been having her flat iron my hair for straight styles. She also has done a wonderful flat twist out. The only downside to this salon is the location, which can be a bit dark and shady at night. But I go in the day so I don't have to worry about it. This is also a spa with services including massages, facials and mani/pedis. I can say, from experience that the massages are fantastic as well.
