Well, it took for an unexpected visit by our Product Sales Rep, Jason Croft to stop in and introduce himself and remind us we had an account. Since our meet, Jason offered himself for the personalized service we required in order to realize what amazing service we have been missing out on. Really, really have been missing out! Most of the employees only semi-understood their jobs (cash register, key-making, etc). Additionally, there was no one on duty "running the place". It was all very haphazard. When I got home, my new keys didn't work, so I went back today. It was the same scenario- a clown show. Hardly anyone working in the store around 10:15 am. I poked my head down every aisle, and only found one employee who was deep in conversation on her cell phone. I did find an employee that looked like he was just arriving to work, and he said he could help me with my keys. He then forgot to give me the original key back, and the new ones don't work...again. Simultaneously, another man became very frustrated with the cashier because the price wasn't ringing up correctly, and the cashier couldn't understand what the problem was. Meanwhile, I began to wonder, is there a manager at this place? I did notice a man in a button down Ace shirt sitting in the back room. I presume he was an owner or manager, but whatever his position, it was a shame he wasn't on the floor helping the employees better understand their jobs.

I'll have an irritating experience so will avoid going there for a while, then there'll be something I need in the middle of a project and I'll decide to try again. Part of the problem is the store has limited stock and because of the small size, things are sometimes not easy to access or find- like up on the top of shelves so you need to get help to even see what they have. I will say they seem to have done re-organization and the layout seems a bit better- also the nursery has gotten better recently (plants look better and prices are easier to identify). Maybe just bad luck but today I needed a few spring planting items that I was pretty sure they carried. It turned out they were out of both of the products but I found substitutes that could work- especially since I didn't want to drive to Novato or downtown San Rafael. When I went to pay, after standing in a long line, I found the total came over $5 more than the shelf tags indicated and also they didn't accept the Ace Hardware gift certificate I planned to use towards my purchase so I cancelled the transaction. While I would love to shop locally, both for the convenience and to keep money in my community it's not worth the potential for frustration so will continue to go to Pini or the Chase locations for my hardware purchases

My family has been been doing business Ace/Pini hardware ever since it was on Grant Avenue, Novato . The customer service has never changed since I was in my teens and now in my 60s. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful on DIY projects. When entering, I'm always, ALWAYS greeted by an associate and asked if there's something he/she can help me do, explain and or find. This was the first time that I've stopped in since the store changed from "Cheap Pete's" to "CP…read morePhotos & Frames." I was helped by a relatively new employee named Rishi. She was very considerate. It was the holiday season, so the shop was busy and many of the customers were in a rush. Still, she was patient with me and walked me through my options for the four pieces I wanted framed. We found a stock option for one of them, but the other three required custom work. If I had to guess, the name change was probably spurred by people accusing it of not being cheap enough. There were definitely more affordable options than I've seen elsewhere, but none of them look cheap to me, which is even more important. The selection was comparable to what I've been used to at this location and I enjoyed seeing the way that Rishi was enthusiastic about the work - helping her customers find appropriate settings for their artwork and treasured memories. I was walked through my options and she'd learned her stuff! She knew how to guide me through the many choices, balanced with the existing artwork I have at home to make sure the new pieces would be well matched. (Please note, well matched is not the same as exactly matched, something I wouldn't expect and don't require.) Even though I stated that I didn't need them rushed, I was delighted when I got the message that my custom items were ready for pick up several weeks before they were due. Upon my return, Hector and Rochelle greeted me right away and located my order, giving me a chance to review each item before I left. I'm a very happy customer! Also, while I was in the store the first time, there was another customer who took up an exorbitant amount of time with one of the customer service representatives, but then walked out without purchasing anything. She repeatedly said, "You must think I'm a pain," to which the associate responded diplomatically and patiently, but she didn't bother modifying her behavior or thanking him for his trouble. I didn't catch his name, but I've been that sales associate before and I just want to acknowledge that he handled it like a true professional. I know it can be thankless work sometimes being in customer service, but hopefully the gratitude of the customers who appreciate your efforts outshine the ones who don't.
