My only quibble is that placing an online order on the weekend does not really work, apparently the front office needs to be open for internet pre-orders to be processed. Great experience shopping here for an unusual color request. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and very patient. They helped me find just the right color for the remodeling project I am working on. Large selection of colors, including a good deal of unusual options. They also have some kids books to keep children occupied while you are going through a bunch of swatches. I'll be going back to them for my next project. read more

I agree with Carmen! These guys are unbearably rude. I was painting my exterior, and every time I went in for samples, the guys in the shop exchanged rude comments to each other about customers. I would get anxious thinking of going back. Look, most people speak Spanish guys, and some of the remarks were downright disgusting! I don't like to sit in a shop and wait 25 minutes for a sample while hearing that kind of talk. Plus they were super rude when I asked questions. A friend told me that they just opened a Sherwin Williams on Grant, so I decided to pay them a visit. It was so refreshing. The guys were professional and kind. Samples came right away. They took the time to explain options. I gave Sherman williams my business and we are talking a ton of paint. I will never return to Marin color and my contractor agreed that many people feel the same way. read more

This is the best paint store that I've been in. The merchandise is neatly arranged and it is easy to find any supplies that you need. I came in here today to look for some primer, and it was amazing that they had so many shelves of primers (each for a different purpose). I wanted a tinted primer since I wasn't going to paint the wood for a few months. The guy behind the counter was great; he selected the primer for me and suggested the paint color. July 2018 - I needed to match BEHR paint (greenish color) - called and asked if they match. I was told yes - went in, got the paint and some supplies, and head home PROS: - really nice staff - located in Downtown Novato where you can visit the financial district, grab dinner, do your taxes, and get some paint after a trip to the lumbar yard across the street. - good quality paint and products CONS: - paint DID NOT match the BEHR color. Then she advised me to get several paint color samples in small cans and try it out on the house in different lighting and various areas of the exterior. Thank you Connie for helping me pick an excellent color for the house and trim. And thank you for encouaging me to try the house color and trim color on the house to see if I liked it. Amazing Service! I resigned myself to the grueling process of testing many paint colors to find the perfect exterior shade for my house. However, the color specialist ( I'm sorry I don't know her name) at Marin Color Service asked me what I was seeking. I replied, "gray with blue and green, but not really appearing blue or green." Used them for years HOWEVER went to get some stuff matched and a gallon and new workers to me were both HORRIBLE on the stain instead of ASKING ME A QUESTION like Pini did which was WHAT KIND OF WOOD ARE YOU STAINING -- soft or hard??? They said "we need a bigger piece!" And that was it. I don't feel like either of these workers like to deal with woman PERIOD they were abrasive and condescending!!! My favorite place just closed it's store in Novato and I was told Marin Color was the next best option. Well, my experience with these guys didn't turn out so great. I don't feel like going into details, but it was pretty much they're shitty customer service. Maybe it was just an off day for them, but I don't feel like going back. I like this paint shop, primarily for two reasons: they are helpful and they are open on Sunday. I am guessing they are a little overpriced, but they carry quality paints, Benjamin Moore and this new paint, Devine. I have been told their main store in San Rafael is better, but I can't be bothered as they have pretty much everything I want. read more

Kevin and Dean were a great help, were very quick to pull together our rather large paint order. I've gone in many times with questions on certain jobs and products and they always offer quality advice and useful suggestions. They have a lot of good products, but no good employees as far as I can tell. I called and talked to a guy on the phone. He was not a native English speaker and I had trouble understanding him. I'm not one of those people who thinks everyone should speak English. I tried being nice about it, but he got frustrated and pissed off and just hung up on me. I called back, because I needed to know the answer. I didn't call back angry. I was really nice when the sane guy answered and I said, "Hey sorry I think we got cut off" 1- Because me being upset wasn't going to help and 2-I'm not a dick. He didn't even try he just hung up on me again. I ended up driving down looking for the product which they didn't carry. Turns out that phone call wasn't a one off. They're lame and rude. read more

Highly competent folks, great quality products. I am painting my house and garage, and have been buying all my paint and many of the related supplies there. I like the quality of the Benjamin Moore paint, and I find the quality of the supplies (brushes, roller covers, etc.) better than the junk at Home Depot. As a residential customer, though, I find it best to plan my visits at times when there is likely not a lot of contractor/commercial traffic. read more

The gentleman behind the counter was really helpful. He took his time to explain the different paint sheen and offered recommendations for what I was doing. He also took me around the store and showed me what other items I might need for my home project. He recommended I work with a color specialist they have in the store but I chose not to as I felt he had helped me figure out what I wanted. But its nice they have a specialist on site. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! I am so annoyed. This is my first Yelp review ever, that's how frustrated I am. My daughter and I wanted to paint an accent wall in her room. I brought in her bedding to color match and wall measurements. I can overlook receiving no help or even acknowledgement when we were trying to pick a color. What I think it awful is that they completely up sold me, selling me 2x's the amount of paint I needed! I went to Marin Color because I wanted to support the local guys, next time I'll just go to Home Depot where I expect to be ignored and they don't need to take advantage of their customers. I'm so disappointed in their lack of integrity. They saw an easy target and took full advantage. read more

This is my favorite paint store, not just because I live in Novato and they carry my favorite paint (Benjamin Moore), but because of the great service. They are always friendly and helpful, and the several onsite color consultants have always had great ideas and suggestions. I have recently been in there a lot as I am repainting most of the rooms in my house and I've had a lot of trouble with colors but the two color consultants there have been great in helping me narrow the choices. read more

I wish the customer service was better. Almost every time I've come here they have gotten something wrong and instead of apologizing, they basically tell me it was my fault. They always get it wrong, then tell you that's the way you ordered it.... Um no it wasn't. And the thing that really drives me nuts... There are no price tags on anything in the store. I just don't get it. I never buy anything except paint because I am not going to stand there and ask the price of everything. So weird and dumb. read more

Two stars here, only because the color consultants are very helpful; if not for them I'd give 1 star. Why? It took us four visits to get a simple gallon of paint. Visit 1: Hand the clerk a paint card. Not a strip with several colors - a card with just one color on it. Ask for a gallon of flat. Take it home. Open, and find there's about two inches of sludge on the bottom of the can, unmixed. Visit 2: Wife takes it back. They say they can't replace it - turns out their whole stock is defective. She's told to come back. Visit 3: Wife comes back. They show her the paint, which now is properly mixed, but it's the wrong color. Turns out the paint they gave me on day 1 also was the wrong color, but I couldn't tell since it wasn't mixed. They tell my wife sorry, but she must be confused, and force her to take the paint home and check with me. She tells me they all looked at her like she's a moron. She graduated from an Ivy League college; she's no moron. Visit 4: I go back and tell them no, my wife was not confused, I show them the paint chip that I went in with, and demand the proper color. The guy complies with a blank face, no apology spoken. Four visits for a simple gallon of paint? These folks charge premium prices for lousy service, and, judging by the other reviews, they seem to think all women are ditzes. We won't be going back here again. read more

I was going to colorfast till it closed its doors.I heard of marin color through other contractors. So I thought I would give them a shot. And im glad I did. What a selection of products. I mean they pretty much have everything. And the service is actually alot better then colorfast and im a long time customer of colorfast I hate to say. And they provide free color consulting.
