We took a great trip to Seattle and Portland over the summer and although we had a few ideas of places we wanted to visit, we didn't have a very long list for bars. A friend saw we were there and recommended this spot - loved it! Out of the 3 days we had in Portland we spent 2 afternoons here :) Service was very friendly if a bit slow - but they were always busy. Looks cool, inside and out. Was treated badly by wait staff "bartenders". Being in service myself I was surprised at the rudeness. Was told I was expected to pay up front...okay...no problem. I had just come from my professional job around the corner and had funds so to be treated like that was a sham. I was reported by someone for trying to bum a cigarette outside and "bartender" was happy to scold me when she'd been nowhere when I wanted to order food. I don't even smoke regularly, just wanted fresh air and company. Pretentious atmosphere for a dive-ish bar. Worst of both worlds. I love this place!! My co-worker and I were down town and had to grab a bite for lunch, we don't drink but wanted to try the food here. So glad we did! I ordered the Chicken Tenders and she ordered this Huge Burger & fries, she loved it, lots of fresh huge meat and even my Chicken Tenders were fresh white meat yummy! I will definitely order the huge burger next time! The atmosphere was AWESOME, love all the bikes hanging around, all Retro/Antiques, a must see in Portland! This one star review is not for Kelly's Olympian bar. I give this establishment five stars for having terrific atmosphere, great bands and well made drinks. My one star goes to the bouncers at the front door, who made my partner and I feel unwelcome before we ever even entered. We were not intoxicated, unruly or disrespectful in any way; mearly out for an evening of live music and a couple of drinks. It is my recommendation to the owners of Kelly's Olympian to take a moment to discuss hospitality and kindness to their employees. I also request not giving a platform to power-hungry people, who clearly enjoy hassling and making guests feel uncomfortable. It is my practice to only go out of my way to write positive reviews. In this case, I feel it is my responsibility to speak up; in hopes that no one is left feeling the way we did. It was so unnecessary. read more

The food is okay, good bar food for an every day evening. The beer was pretty good, The service was excellent on 5/18/17, couple of females behind the bar handling the pressure. On 5/19/17, the service was less than stellar, long waits for service. Also the bar hand, (security boy) he was not really that big, kind of puny, but not worth the police being called. Thought he would show his toughness... oh boy we were scared.... not! He seemed to have a hard on for nothing, all in his head I guess. We closed the tab and left accordingly, the bartenders suffered, we left a 30% tip the night before. Butt hole security boy hurt that for them for the night. This facility is not always customer friendly. The security boy thinks he has a tons of power, unfortunately for the business, we took 35 people to another establishment due to the unprofessional attitude of the security boy...........on 5/20/17 and spent in excess of $4,000.00 at another establishment that was more customer focused. The place was initially pretty cool, but I would not waste my time going there when other places are more customer friendly. The facility empowers an idiot security person who is really a bar boy filling the ice and beer cans, he has all of this power, but in the long run we can dring and eat else where. read more

Extremely rude and aggressive bartender (there was absolutely no provocation). Wish I could say which one, but they all looked the same. Weathered and tired of their job. The decorations were so played out and just plain overkill. It reminded me of a bad theme bar in the crappy outskirts of Reno. Like an Applebees of the "dive bar" world. I have been to a lot of dive bars in my life and would consider myself a regular at some true dives, and this, my friends, is in no way a dive bar. read more

Why haven't I written a review for this place yet? I've been coming here quite regularly since 2013. Food is great, drinks are stiff and a great price, staff is very prompt with service and extremely kind. The decor is unique with a motorcycle theme and the music vibes with the crowd and time of day. I never feel uncomfortable or unhappy here. Kudos to all the staff here for keeping it up! read more

My favorite draft bar - extremely friendly bar tenders. The best bar burgers I have ever had. The atmosphere is very relaxing with comfortable red leather chairs - an awesome place to bring a group of friends that want fair pricing beer and liquor. Not bad. I stopped in for one of the free Rose City Round podcast events and got a beer and basket of mac'n'cheese bites to join me in my entertainment. I find the set up of the actual bar part to be a little uncomfortable/crowded. But the beer selection and food was great. Definitely my go-to bar. Good bartenders that know their drinks, open a tab and they will always have their eye out for you with good and quick service. I'm such a fan of breakfast that I'm hard to please. Lucky for me The Olympian serves breakfast all day and night. Not only that, but everything they make is SPOT ON!! Biscuits so fresh and flaky, no gravy needed to enjoy them!! Eggs, potatoes, sausage and bacon obviously cooked to order. I watched customer after customer unable to put their forks down until every delicious crumb had been devoured. The happy hour menu is filled with "old standbys", but with a homemade, scratch-cooking difference. Light, crispy, not too greasy. Order at the bar, choose anything from a $2 pint of house draft beer all the way up to a moderately priced, trendy yet classic, hand crafted $8 cocktail. Awesome little piece of history right smack in the heart of downtown Portland. This bar has some of the coolest decor of any bar in the city. Bartender also let us know it's the second oldest bar in Portland! How cool! Highly recommend if you're visiting Portland. read more
